21 King Company
Realism and roleplaying unit

Introduction
Allow me to introduce myself, I am Captain Kevin – veteran Operation Flashpoint and Armed Assault player.
Having served in one of the largest, and most dedicated-to roleplaying realism units of Operation Flashpoint, the [23rd] Ground Division, I know my fair share about the game and how it should be played. In those years I had a lot of fun and made a lot of friends, that feeling of friendship and working in a close-knit team is what I want to make others experience as well.

21 King Company
The 21 King Company (hereafter referred to as 21K or [21K]) is a realism unit for Armed Assault which utilizes realistic military tactics, procedures and situations.
You won’t find proper military tactics here, for they’ve been proven to not always work. The tactics and procedures here come from experience and practice in the field and are made from different players over the years. Even though the way of playing is not directly copied from the military, it has some realistic military influences which are changed to work better in Armed Assault.

The 21K is an Infantry Company – meaning we are ground forces and don’t use vehicles to engage the enemy.
We only use vehicles when sections need to be transported.

Breaking it down
The 21K is (as the name suggests) a company. In the company there are three platoons, each having three squads.
Every squad contains up to three fireteams. A fireteam is a team of four men, the team leader and the three soldiers.
The 21K offers a wide variety of infantry roles, ranging from fighting at the front-line, to support fallen and injured teammates.

The Company is overlooked by the Commanding Officer and his 2IC (2nd In Command).
This element is in charge of all the actions and military operations in and off the field.
Though he is not involved directly in combat, he relays the commands to his subordinates which carry out the commands.
Under the CO is the Platoon Command Element which is in charge of the three squads in the Platoon.

An example to explain our structure:
The CO gives an order to take three towns, secure an enemy ammo depot and set up a tactical HQ.
He relays this order to the Platoon Commander, which commands his squads to do different roles, such as sending squad one to town one, squad two to town two, and squad three to the ammo depot. After the fights a tactical HQ is set up in a tactical position relative to the three points.

What can we offer
As mentioned, we offer a wide variety of infantry combat and support roles. Here are a few other things we offer:
- Close-knit teamwork
- Comradeship
- Respect
- A fun gaming environment
- Good training (basic and advanced)

Training
As mentioned, we give training to our recruits, these vary from basic manoeuvres to advanced firing techniques.
A brief schedule of our training :

BMT – Basic Military Training
The basics of being a soldier are taught here, manoeuvring, firing a weapon, safety procedures, formations and field survival.
The training is ended with a live fire exercise. After this training you will be officially welcomed into the 21K as Private.
Duration: Approx 5 to 7 days.

AMT – Advanced Military Training
In this course you’ll get in-depth training, some of the areas covered are advanced firing techniques, driving course, radio commands and another live fire exercise.
After this training course you are able and allowed to use most (if not all) roles in the 21K.
Duration: Approx 5 to 7 days.

TLT – Team Leading Training
As the name suggests, this is a course not for the weak, you will be tested on a great number of things you’ve been taught and given a shot at leading an element in combat.
Note that this course is not a direct follow-up of the BMT and AMT, only after having served several weeks to months can you take this, if you are suitable.
Duration: Approx 3 days

What do we expect from you
We try to be as tolerable as possible, however not everyone’s cut out of the right wood to join and play in realism units.
At this moment we don’t have any age limits whatsoever, as experience has proven you don’t have to be old to be mature.

We expect that you:
- Are respectful towards everyone in the unit
- Are a teamplayer
- Are a roleplayer
- Listen to and carry out orders
- Can take situations seriously

Our training schedule plans a training each night at 1900h GMT, Saturday evening being coops and Sunday having parade.
Attendance of at least 4 of the 7 (mainly Sunday and three normal days) is required.

What do you need
Not only do we expect a certain amount of things from you, we also need you to have a few things:
- TeamSpeak (and a working microphone if possible)
- A legal copy of Armed Assault, patched to 1.08 or 1.09

How do you join
If you want to join our realism unit, or merely want to ask for more information, feel free to send an e-mail to:

Parade? Is that what I think it is?

It depends on what you&#39;re thinking of.

With parade I mean marching, drilling if you&#39;d like to call it. It&#39;s a way of discipline and keeping morale, especially when marching to combat.
On each Sunday we have parade, which is preceded by announcements or promotions.

In the training there&#39;s a part that covers marching and it plays a big (roleplaying) part in the Company.

Yours sincerely,

I wish you and your unit the best of luck.

Can you explain the name a bit?

Viper23rd
May 3 2008, 08:42
Absolutely. I wanted a Company because I wanted at least three Platoons, to allow for expanding. At the moment only Alpha Platoon (nicknamed Queen&#39;s Guardian) is active.

The King comes from the old British phonetic alphabet, the letter K. I was first thinking of taking Delta (Company), but sounded too cheesy in my opinion. I then looked up the old British codenames and found their variant of Delta, Dog. Dog Company sounded good but again, it sounded a bit too usual.
I then looked at the list, and as the active units range from letters A to K (except J I believe) I thought K was pretty good, being King. The NATO variant, Kilo, didn&#39;t seem very attractive.

So I then had King Company. As I&#39;ve always worked with numbers in the past, I decided to use 21. I&#39;m not sure why, it just came to me. I know numbers are not used for companies, but it distinguishes the title (21K instead of KC).

That&#39;s basically how I got the name. I could have also taken Queen, as both the UK and Netherlands have a queen at the moment, but as Q falls later in the alphabet, it&#39;s a &#39;reserve&#39; unit, and K sounded well enough.

Because of the &#39;King&#39; I could use a crown, which is orange. Orange is the royal colour of The Netherlands. In the logo you can also see a Dutch flag (bottom part) and the Union Flag, with a part of the St. Patrick&#39;s cross going down through the red and white bit of the Dutch flag, vertically.

I&#39;ve always been a part of a British unit, and I&#39;m a big fan of the United Kingdom, so that love explains the union flag in there, also because the tactics and procedures are based on Dutch and British rank structures and militaries.

I hope that&#39;s enough information for you. *Smiles*

Yours truly,

Pathy

I&#39;ll remember that one for next time i&#39;m on Ex.

"I know we&#39;re on an advance to contact and all, and we&#39;re meant to be tac, but can we march there instead? To keep morale up I mean."

May I ask what the "safety procedures" part of your training involves, soon as no weapons in ArmA that i&#39;m aware of contain a safety catch, change lever, cocking handle, etc.

Haha&#33; I like it, but it actually does work to keep in the spirit, it&#39;s proven us over and over again.

With safety procedures I basically mean the procedures one needs to take to take a rifle, remembering rules, such as no teamkilling, no aiming at each other, etc.

We refer to them as SP (Safety Procedures) and are done when someone picks up a weapon, following that is just general safety rules. Safetying your weapon is also part of all this, not having it drawn, for example, in friendly territory. To rule out friendly fire incidents and it looks less intimidating. It&#39;s also part of ND (Neglecting Discharge), accidentally firing your weapon.

We value safety a lot, so we try to keep it as safe as possible, just like you would in real life. Safety first.

Yours,

Col. Faulkner

It&#39;s also part of ND (Neglecting Discharge), accidentally firing your weapon.
ND is "Negligent Discharge".

"Are you <number> <rank> <name> of <regiment>?
Did you, on <date> so handle the self-loading rifle as to
cause it to be discharged without the order to do so being
given?"

I recall that "the 23rd" actually did implement safety catches
on rifles. Are you doing that too?

Thank you for the explanation of the name. I agree that Delta
company and Dog company sound far too American in this
context (Dog Company even sounds like some sort of
mercenary unit).

I never noticed the Dutch tricolour in the logo until you
mentioned it.  http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif

Yes, I know the Dutch flag isn&#39;t very noticible, but it&#39;s because it&#39;s also red, white and blue coloured. At least it&#39;s in there, well incorperated under the Union flag, so it&#39;s fine with me. *Smiles*

And thanks for the proper naming of ND, I couldn&#39;t think of the name as &#39;Neglectant&#39; isn&#39;t a word, heh. I&#39;m not English myself so some words don&#39;t come natural.

Also, we&#39;re going to try and implement safety catches on rifles, probably using the action menu, or &#39;weapon&#39; named "Safety" and make sure it&#39;s set to that.

Though I&#39;ve no time to experiment with this, it might be implemented at some time, for now we&#39;ll just have to live trying to make no mistakes.

Thanks again for the heads up, and I agree Delta and Dog sound a bit too American.

Yours sincerely,

Nice to see you again viper. Best of luck with 21K.

As I recall the safeties that were put on the rifles by Q ( Questor ) were buggy with AI in that if they tried to fire at an enemy the game would crash as all it was is a default firing mode with no bullets and no magazines you can find in game.

I don&#39;t know how far that got developed past the first 23rd Addon pack but then again I wasn&#39;t around after I handed command to Q.
