Who we are

Shadows-Online are a multi-gaming community that have just opened this January. Currently we are a very small group (around 55) who have come together over our interest in the individual games we play. We mainly play FPS and PRG, and have recently expanded into Armed Assault.
We have gained several interests in sponsorship deals with brands such as SteelSeries and Fatal1ty, who have helped secure the dedicated servers we use for the different games we play.
Our new site *Under construction* can be found at www.shadows-online.co.uk

Who I am

I am the section manager of the Armed Assault team, who currently have 6 members.

What we're about

Two of our members (including me) are currently training for the Royal Marine Commandos, and play the game not only because its great!!... but because we enjoy the team-building, role-play and realism aspects!

We therefore use realistic ranking systems, offering progression throughout performance in missions.

(A small example, see our site forums for more info)

Mods we use
As you might notice, we work around the British Royal Marines, and use British Forces Mods.

sO. In Detail
We have 3 different divisions.

SOC - Shadows Online Commandos (Amphibious Infantry Special Forces)
SAF - Shadows Air Force
SOR - Shadows Online Ratings (Armour and support)

How we play

Currently we use COOP style missions that are designed around real missions we have read/heard or just made up!

We are looking to expand, and are open to any new ideas and thoughts!

Applicants should:
- be able to speak English well
- be open to voice communication (Ventrilo/Team-Speak)
- be mature and professional (but fun&#33http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
- be able to take orders and adhere to the chain of command
- be available to play weekly/daily

I recommend getting up a good number of members and then implementing ranks and divisions as needed. You have six members now, but with five ranks (at least) and three divisions. It'd be more feasible if you had dozens of people to manage, but right now I'd recommend keeping the organization simple.

Also, your website needs content for people to become interested. You said "see our site forums for more info" but making people register just to see it is off-putting.

Thanks for your feedback 96D.

I think its important to have a basic framework in-place before recruiting, so that candidates know what they can expect. The structure I have devised is not rocket-science. It offers long-term goals and a name to aim for! It follows actual Core and Officer ranks of the Royal Marines, which are achieved by a point system I calculate after each session. For clarification, each recruit is first and foremost an sO. Commando (see here for info (http://www.shadows-online.co.uk/forums/viewforum.php?f=18)) but they may choose a division to progress onto. These divisions work closely along-side each other during each mission to achieve the best possible outcome.

As for our web-site, we have been open for a week. In that time, there have been 50 users register on our forums (please check for yourself if in doubt) even though our site is not complete yet. The ArmA section of the forum is almost complete and the recruitment section is active (see current recruits (http://www.shadows-online.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=60) and apply here (http://www.shadows-online.co.uk/forums/viewforum.php?f=39)). As for the main site content, it will be added shortly, I try to keep my priorities in-check and give the lads a mission when they are online. In-order to add good content that is worth a read, first we must physically do somthing worthy enough to write about. The Shadows-Online gaming community has oppertunities for new members to make a real impact in this content, and for this reason the main site content is little/often.
As the site is a 'Gaming Community' you will see updates on many other aspects of the community from the main site. This includes ArmA related info, but for all the news/Info you need to check the 'Armed Assault' section as well as the forums.

Hope this clarifies a few things.

-Update-

Since the last posts, we've recruited a few new members.

Our forum now has 156 registered users.
This is not really telling anyone anything now is it?

If you have an update that is actually informative please post it, the quantity of forum members is neither interesting or tells anyone in the community your activities or future plans.

The next post that reflects this kind of content will result in this thread being locked.

Good-day all.

A little update on Shadows-Online gaming community.

We have had a slight increase in users followed by our implementation of new maps/missions (now over 370 users registered on our community site).

The new mods we have used (optional) are:
We not all use the new AACF sound mod (Very impressive) which you can get here (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=70;t=71683).

And the map Sakakah Al Jawf (for more recent campaigns which are relative to real events/ current issues, which involve 'Iraq'/Afghan type missions.

We're also organising some Joint-Ops missions with other clans/communities.
Nothing confirmed yet, but we're looking to do coop missions with a few great clans out there very soon (arrangements pending).

Watch this space for updates!
