Hello, I don't know where to post this as there's no dedicated Photoshop thread, so I'll just make one here.
I have a huge satellite image I've been working on, it's in PSD format, canvas is 20480 px big ( actual image a bit bigger) and is 2 GB in size. Yesterday I saved it in PSD, today I tried opening it again and what happen is that PS just gives me the option to create a new image. I've tried to open it in I IrfanView and GIMP, but there in both I get just errors.
What can I do to save my precious satellite image?!?!

PSD has a limit of 2 GB, so use PSB or TIFF.

Edit: it's depending on the version of photoshop, too.
I started work on a 25600x25600 satellite mask for my ofp island a while back. I had to break it up into 16 6400*6400 pieces to work on, with the intention of joining it together once finished (the joints would need some work with the layer structure intact).

Well I have PS Elements 2.0, is there ANY way to salvage it?

I think that oyu should open it in PS CS2, then split it in parts...
you need to save it as a .psb file
i think but ot sure you can manually aadd the extension , but to open again you may have to activate phoyoshop to allow opening of such large files.
Quote[/b] ]PSB format
Satellite texture of Sahrani has size 20480x20480 px, which can be sometimes hard to process or work with. The original method of separately editing of smaller parts did not work well especially when global tweaks needed to be synchronized. Most common windows applications can only handle files of maximum size of 2.5 GB, which is very easy to exceed in the case of Saharni. Therefore it is necessary to use a format capable of handling the size over 2.5 GB, such as the Photoshop PSB format. PhotoShop can use this format since CS (8.0) release and has no size restriction. You may need to allow its use in PS:
* In Photoshop, open menu Edit > Preferences > File Handling...
* Check Enable Large Document Format (.psb)

Problem solved! PS CS3 can apparently open up PSD format that exceeds 2 GB.
