Ok, I am sooooo fed up with this!
Im forkin out about 4 k's in december for a new rig,
and I used to consider what I have now as ok:
AMD Athlon 64 3000 + (1.81 GhZ)
Radeon X800 XL (slightly overclocked)
1 Gig Ram
Ill be buying twin 8800 Gtx's a Core 2 Duo ($980) and 3 gb ram..
I play ArmA with low freakin settings and view distance of about 1200. It runs ok, but when I fly around any of the forests or cities I lag out and throw my keyboard around the room...
I can play pretty much any game on High except for ArmA.
I expect that my new set-up will work, but my question is.. What can I cheaply upgrade on my machine now to tight me over till I fully upgrade?
Ps to Mods: I have tried everything in the tweaks threads and the ARmA becnchmark thread (my score was 1005 and I have the test saved)

The new patch 1.08 and a 7600gt video card. Can be had for around $100 us, newegg... tigerdirect...etc... I have an Amd 3800 and a 7600gt 2 gig ram and can run it at a view distance of 2500 on high details with shadow and shading detail at normal.

Hmm ,thankyou Ill look in to this
chip get ati 1950 or 1900 series card, currently 30 euros more than 7600gt, and the best part is u can use the card as a physics card in the future http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
http://ati.amd.com/technology/crossfire/physics/index.html
Just a note on that 7600gt
I have one of those cards and arma runs o.k. with all on normal and shadows off
still get heavy lag from time to time though..the cards are cheap but youd probably be better off paying slightly more

I would certainly go for a Radeon X1950 or equilevant; good priced, and very nice performance.
Twin 8800's are NOT going to help your performance in ArmA btw... Most ppl have lost performance when enabling SLI http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Maybe in the future though http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
