i could be wrong, but wasn't there supposed to be a mission with the new A-10? since patch 1.08 doesn't seem to include it i guess that it is an exclusive mission of the Atari US release. or am i wrong altogether and there is no such mission?

if the mission does exist, would anyone who has it be so kind as to share it? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Seconded, I too would like to have a bash at it, if someone could whack it up (assuming it exists, heh).

It exists.
Only EU version exclusive mission was promised to be in 1.08 patch and it's really there.

you mean "Blood, Sweat and Tears", right?

i'm not talking about that. there was supposed to be a mission introducing the newly included A-10.

Yes, and as I know, it was supposed to be in US Release (where it is - it's name is Devil's Cross) and not in 1.08 patch.

Ya, the US players have the A-10 map, your not missing a whole lot, but then again im not the greatest pilot on gods green earth.

Mostly its see tank, shoot with mavrick, find another tank.

I still want to see the A-10 in Evolution! WHERE IS IT? >_<

maybe i wasn't clear enough the first time: i know it is not in the patch 1.08. why would i ask here if it was? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif

so if someone has the US version and is aware of this mission, could they please share it?

i remember that quite a few gentlemen here were very kind to share "Blood Sweat and Tears" with us "v1.00 buyers" before it was included in the patch.

"Devil's Cross" with the A-10 in the US release. I think it's locked until you beat some of the other single player missions, however.

If you want to verify for yourself, I believe the file is \missions\M14DevilsCross.sara.pbo

Screw doing the secondary objectives, I blow everything up in sight.

Whacked two Shilkas with the cannon in one pass - severe skill on my behalf. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

Not exactly a mission to be jealous of.
compared to the original campaign and single missions, this one is great.

Edit: i just completed it. i really like this one. resupplying is as complicated as ever, but at least it works. i like how secondary objectives keep popping up all over the battlefield, but you can just ignore them if you don't feel like completing them. i also like the radio traffic during the mission - very atmospheric. i wish the rest of the ArmA campaign was like this. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif

And for those of us that are abit slow learners, where shall I put the downloaded file to make it work (1.08 EU version)

PS:"Those who beat their swords into plowshares wind up plowing for those who did not."
What an absolutely hilarious line! Who wrote that?

Well I mean the downloaded mission of course.
And I think that your sig. can be read in different ways. But it was very clever in all its simplicity.

I really enjoyed this mission. It had a simple concept but the features (radio chatter, the little "kill indicator" and the secondary objectives) made it worthwhile. This is much more like it BIS, along with "Blood, Sweat and Tears" the official missions are beginning to resemble OFPs.

BTW, it might just be me but this mission made me think of "Red Storm Rising" by Tom Clancy, with the A10s strafing Russian tanks in CAS role.

Jun 25 2007, 15:36
This mission is of CWC level, I even had a that looks familair moment.
The cutscene at the start made me tink of the mission where you take of in a A-10 and get shot down over kolgujev.

Now if it wasnt for my crappy pilot skills I would play it more often.

Yea I thought so too. A little reference to OFP http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Speaking of references to OFP, anyone notice something familiar about the SLA guy's whistling in the intro of the Blood, sweat and Tears mission http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Sorry to surface this thread, but I've searched extensively for a fix to this. I know ArmA has a little bug with rearming choppers and you have to leave one round in it tfor it to work, plus have the correct style ammo truck loaded with helo ammo. Anyway, in devils cross there is only one ammo truck back at the airbase and I cannot for the life of me rearm. Refuel and repair work fine, but you can't get out of the aircraft once your in it, so I can't even move the truck closer or whatever. It just doesn't do anything. In the AH-1Z I usually pull in 50% power until I am skids light and it begins to re-arm. Of course, in the A-10 I cannot do that as you roll forward and I am unsure if a brake exists for the A-10?

Any help would be appreciated.

Wolfrug
Aug 27 2007, 04:29
I believe there is a break (no reverse though) on airplanes. On the default keyboard layout I think it's something like 'Z' -> same key you use to lose altitude in a helicopter.

I've rearmed without trouble in this mission, although due to the sad lack of a reverse and my equally sad lack of plane-taxiing leet skills, I managed to drive the plane into some stuff from which it could no longer extract itself. :P

Landing is dangerous.

Hope that helps!

Regards,
Wolfrug

Aug 27 2007, 07:40
Right, that might be the key as I'm using a joystick with a slider for throttle control, brake deploys automatically as I lower the throttle. I'll post back if the 'Z' key works, thanks.

tutmeister
Aug 27 2007, 08:20
No, it doesn't work. Z is the same as 0% thrust on the joystick and so I can't rearm next to the truck with a brake on. Any other idea's are greatly welcomed!

Flat!!!

A little late to the party, I know, but I just finished this little gem and wow, it really brought back that old OFP feeling.

I had no idea you could land and rearm! Did it all with the one weapon loadout. Needless to say, I was just about dry on ammo and armor by the end of it. Got pretty good with the gun, tho.

Definitely one of the best ArmA missions. The 'blow-up-the-building' secondary objective was my favorite part. Target marked with smoke. Atmospheric chatter when the building goes down. Too cool.

If the ArmA campaign had more missions like this, I think it could have rivaled CWC and maybe even Resistance.

Are there any instructions/manual how to fly the A-10, and other planes in Arma? I really cant fly well, i struggle balancing the plane and flying steady, and cant keep them in the air long enough, or land properly :)

example, how do i use the flaps, when they should be up and when down?

Any other crucial/basic things i should know.

Flaps can be activated in the action menu. Use flaps on take off and landing to increase drag & lift.

When I'm on CAS with the A10 I use one notch of flaps so it balances out. If you are flying with a joystick make sure you have it properly calibrated etc etc. and are comfortable flying. Once you expend your AGM Mavericks form the A10 and are forced to go down to the GAU Avenger, pick your target, find an AOA go high. Once you near the target slow down and come in on it, then let a burst out, if possible "walk" the burst so you can get multiple vehicles & infantry with one.

Other than that, just practice. It helps

When I take off I usually have one notch of flaps. On landing, I wait until I'm on final, then I slowly drop flaps to full.

This is just my personal opinion, but i prefer to use my GAU-8 as a multipurpose "anti-everything" gun, and keep my AGMs for high priority targets and nasty shilkas. as for FFARs i don't really use them unless i'm completely dry and a soft skinned vehicle absolutely HAS to die.
