View Full Version : Install 1.08 patch right now or wait for fix?

With all the bug and crash complaints I'm reading, I just want to be sure and perhaps others as well if installing the latest patch is a good idea.

why not try it? That's what I'm planning on doing. I'll .zip up my existing ArmA directory, delete the AddOns and @ folders, patch it and try it. If it doesn't work, 1.06/1.07b are just an un-zip away.
OMG.
I did some testing of Arma patched to 1.08, and must say i`m impressed.
Arma works better, smoother has many bugs fixed in version 1.08.
What are you waiting for?
A fix? To fix what?
A problem that you will maybe never get, with you`re hardware and software?
Take an advice from an "old" OFP player:
Always install the latest patch, even when it`s called "beta patch". http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

When you don`t have the Atari version, it should be the international patch.

A fix for those of us whom St. Peter chose to close the pearly gates of a smooth, 1.08 Arma on. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif
I would definitely try it, and hope it works. If it doesn't, I hope we actually get a fix for this. There's no context for the problems...it just seems to choose who it effects randomly.
I think the most people with problems are Vista users. Users of the latest hardware too, always took some time until all drivers provided a solid system.
Than there are those, that start the game, see an error and start complaining, without test a few different graphic settings.
Others think old drivers will do the job, and onboard sound must be good, because it`s 7.1 or whatever.

Well I'm not using vista, and the hardware is not too recent but not old, and it was working in previous versions.
My problem is simply that it's stopping without any sort of way of letting me know what might be wrong. And that when it works perfectly on previous patches (Even working on the beta if I copy and paste the beta folder and shortcut into the game), is showing me that it seems like it's the patch and not my PC that is the problem, else I would have seen these issues happening earlier, and not specific to the patch.
Edit: I was using the wrong startup file. The right one gives me the securerom error, so I'm still pretty sure it's an error related to them, and not the hardware. Maybe it isn't, but I'm not sure.

http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif That really hurts http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif
There is no weapon bug apart of using 3rd party addons
which are not configured the way, 1.08 requires.
Your weapon bug is caused by you yourself and nobody else
can fix it but you!
Remove all your addons and put them in back one by one
to sort out the troublemaking addons.

no, but we should all add into our sig with [size=10] state the following: "No Weapons? Shooting from you chest!? REMOVE YOUR BLOODY ADDONS~!"
that should do the trick better
if you are sure that your copy is not the troublemaker version (505, "spoky"), i think you should have a go

I installed from 1.05 to 1.08 on my downloaded copy..564 mb.
The game looks alot better to me and seems to be performing better. I think you should do it, it was well worth the wait for me no questions. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif
Try it, sure, but the 1.08 patch won't even let me load the game now. 1.06 was perfect and fine. No help from BIS on this issue at all so far. Many users are saying the game won't load in the troubleshooting thread. Be warned. You can, of course, uninstall the game and reinstall to you previous version of course.

Speaking for myself, I had no problems loading 1.08...I did, however, do some prep-work before loading it after seeing some of the issues on the forum.
1.) I did a full backup of my existing ArmA directory to simplify the recovery process if I ran into problems.
2.) I deleted all of my 3rd party addons prior to installing the patch, not only from their '@' directories, but from the AddOns folder as well.
3.) I patched up and ran a few tests before committing to an evening's entertainment, just to ensure I wasn't going to have to roll-back. This included running ArmA Mark and testing various command-line options (trying with and without the -maxmem parameter, as well as trying out the new 'Default' Texture setting).

I'll try the patch tonight when I get home. Interested to see if I get any performance increase as someone are posting here. I think I have ArmAMark laying around so will post comparisons.

please stop this.
the problem with the "no boot" issue is not related to addons, custom arma configs or bad mods etc...or even securom.
I have myself removed all arma stuff, registry keys and re-installed the games 4 times. All updates are working except 1.08 (the game doesn't start without any error message)
I'm not alone and all problems seem to be with the 505 games european DVD version on XP (only).
It is not working at all on some systems. period.
BIS should correct this as soon as possible.

Bullshit Vote if you ask me.
People that have problems starting the game have already reported that it's now actually working when using info from this thread:
http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....=64104; (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=68;t=64104;)
If I understood correctly, the importance is in removing the "\??\Volume" entries and then rebooting.
Mind you, this is a securerom issue and stands apart from ArmA registry!
Others with the 7001 Error usually get this due to having Daemon Tools Installed.
People that have shooting from chest problems, simply should remove custom addons as stated earlier.
"All the problems with the 1.08" atm if I read correctly were about the above. All other problems are trivial or fixable/workaroundable unless ur a pesky Vista user http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif I do hope that BIS is putting effort in starting to support Vista in the upcoming patches.
There can still be a problem that I am unaware of, but everyone I know was able to fix it with the listed solutions.

Once they start seeing reports of users that have this problem that include enough detail of the target system affected for them to deduce some common denominator that may explain the behaviour, then I'm sure they will.

sure... but it is extremely frustrating. A lot of servers are switching to 1.08 and we cannot play anymore
sure... but it is extremely frustrating. A lot of servers are switching to 1.08 and we cannot play anymore
If all servers are switching to 1.08 that means that the patch is working correrectly, and the error is located on your system in some way
edit: typo
A vote implies there is a choice here. If you want to play ArmA online and with less bugs, then you must have the patch, if it will work.
Here's how it is for me, 1.08 doesn't work for me. It installs fine, it just doesn't launch after it installs. There's no choice to install it or not -- yes install it! It just won't work if you are one of the unlucky. If it won't work, you'll need to revert to 1.06 somehow.
All my other games are working fine and even ArmA: 1.06 is working fine. Thus, it's most certainly a problem with the 1.08 patch not my system.

This 'works' for me. It works as in the fact that if I delete all my mounted devices registry files. It works.
As soon as I reboot - they come back and it does not work. I'm willing to put up with this, since it's better than nothing, but I don't like the fact, and it kind of reinforces a feeling that this is not related to local computers but rather is a securerom error in and of itself.

Well +1 for the "it doesn't work" camp.
The game still crashes on start with the "Windows has encountered an error.." message. All previous patches worked fine.
I don't see how you can call it "bullshit" just because you have no issues.

Did you have the same problem where you remove the keys suggested and then after a reboot then are back again?
Did you have the same problem where you remove the keys suggested and then after a reboot then are back again?
Yeah, I think it's what should happen normally. I noticed there were less entries now, one for each drive letter as stated below the "Volume" keys.
After removing them, I tried starting the game before and after a reboot and noticed that it seems that the loading actually takes a few steps further. Before I used to get the Windows error after a second or two but now it actually starts loading something from the hard-disk before I get the same error window.

hehe i was thinking u need have at least e6600 to avoid butlenek with 8800 cards, however even e6600 would not help here, as i hear Arma do not support dual or quad core CPUs, there for, i guess, ur GFX overflow ur CPU with data, that why we, all who have high end GFX, in big shit. compere with old GFX , like 7600, and single core CPU, wich preform better than out high tech. stuff.

serious or not, but fact is single CPU core preform better than dual or quad core CPU, and most of players with high end video cards expirenced a lot of trubble, compere with old cards.
