Allright i was wondering when the sprocket website updates their patch to version 1.08? ii this ever happen or do you have to manually update to patch 1.08 after you bought it from sprocketidea.com?
You have to manually Update to 1.05 then manualy update again to 1.08 http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
New patch new problems. Have not even finished downloading the patch http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif

Voice Over Net:
Direct Speak Voice gets lower volume when you put up Radio Volume... It would be simply cool if the Direct Speak volume goes UP together with the RADIO and not with the normal ingame effects, or sth...
Still sometimes problem of a looping Voice or problems with hearing eachother, rejoining helps..
(Quality really is a lot better though, esp at vonCodecQuality=10; :P
Server (Windows 2003 Server, DC):
When starting up ArmA_Server.exe with the super remote management software: ServerDOC (www.serverDOC.com), a message appears: "This software requires Windows 98SE, 2000, blabalba" whereas, booting up the exe normally there is no such problem. Toying with compatibility settings and other stuff was not helpful.

Can you confirm we are now able to reassign joystick buttons correctly ? I won't be able to test myself until later but I do like the fact the centre of grav has changed now, should catch a few flyers out.

i second that, the 1.07 beta stopped my 360 controller working (for some reason the analogue stick button was set to back in menu and i couldn;t change it.

I just got the 8007000e error message. I have never had it before http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif. Also I am getting random unexplained crashes to desktop after 10-15 minutes in the game. I haven't noticed much difference on FPS visually, but I haven't run fraps or anything to actually benchmark it yet.
i can't launch game .
"Le module de sécurité requis ne peut pas être activé.

Try running the game with -maxmem=768 or -maxmem=512, it was a great resolvement under 1.07Beta.
Also try the Texture Detail setting: "Default", as it automaticly tests for memory amounts etc

First uninstall old ones and after reboot install the other one.
Also for testing purposes make sure you have nothing forced in the Display Settings, so everything is per default "Application Controlled".

Question about the 1.08 patch.
For the US version, do we have to wait for the Atari 1.06-1.08 patch to come out, or can we use the links on the 1st page for the US/Canada version?(1.06-1.08)
I am patched up to 1.07 beta now. Also, can you just patch over the 1.07 with the new 1.08 patch?
Thanks

I'd prefer not to go back to the 158.24's if possible, as I have had the same problem since the 158.18 WHQL drivers. That and someone else posted that they get a crash with the 158.24's. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I have disabled all ArmA profiles that I was running (only for SLI, which is now disabled). You know my driver version, DX is up to date, sound drivers are up to date. I'm really not sure what to do http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif.
All this sounds alarming and familiar. I can't say that I envy game makers who are making games for PCs' with zillion different hardware and software configurations out there.
Have not tested the patch yet. Well there is only one way to find out.
shouldnt you guys go to the latest driver with a clean setup first then post result here?

Just installed 1.08 patch and i get this problem for the 1st time :
I can't see my weapons, i hear the noise when i shoot but its like if i dont have any weapons, i see my hands empty with both view 1st and 3st persons.
When in ammo crates, i try to take different weapons but its doesnt work and i see a grey m16 instead of weapons i select.
need help plz

Before anyone kills you, I'm gonna advice you to remove all user-made addons and try again. Some of them conflict with the config values in new patches.

Oh yeah, sorry, didn't check the link too much, but I'm running the game on Vista 32bit so I'd need to go to an earlier vista driver (which I believe is still 158.24). The problem doesn't only occur on Vista though, it also occurs on XP, I created a thread about the issue here: Thread (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=68;t=63106)
The 1.08 patch does not launch for me. I'm using the Atari US version. There is no error given. I watch task manager and the arma.exe does start and takes up about 18MB but then it disappears. 1.06 DID launch. I tried uninstalling the game, and reinstalling 1.06. That still launches fine after uninstalling 1.08. Then I install the 1.08 patch again, and it still does not launch the game. Is there a MD5 or .par file that someone can provide so I can check the validity of the patch? When I install the 1.08 patch and it finishes, it says the patch was installed successfully. I'm using a nV8800GTS320, WinXP, 158.22 drivers, AMD 4200+X2 cpu, and nothing is over clocked. I have 3GB of pc3200 RAM.
I saw something about maxmem here, I'll try that.

ARMA european version DVD.
After applying the patch 1.08 (no errors), ARMA doesn't launch anymore. Nada, nothing.
1.04 and 1.05 was working (including beta 1.07). Re-installed everything twice. Arma doesn't work anymore.

2. Failing to be able to open the readme here are the simple uninstall instructions for 1.07 Beta = Delete the BETA directory.

Yay :/
few things to remind b4 actural trouble shooting,
a) make sure you have a "clean" install, which means all addons should be placed else where, all language pack be restored as what the game should have been
b) make sure you have tested your game with a clean driver install of different version, even more for 8800 user as some driver simply wont work on new game version
c) if possible, try to use a clean Windows install to test your game, something might have screwed on your OS
d) make sure you have the correct shortcut link with the game, which means your shortcut link with your correct location of your game.exe and your parameters inputed correctly, i am not sure but some folks did mix up the beta link with the old link and cannot start the game, also remember to remove your beta mod folder from the -mod= parameter
there should be something i missed out, anyone help me finish it?

My initial impressions are good. The LOD popups are mostly gone. Only noticed a few on buildings and trees while flying, but the usual ones while zooming in and out with a scope are gone; nice.
Not a big fan of the new view point. It makes shooting at distance with no decent scope difficult. I had to squint hard to shoot anything at 150 yards.
Had some slow downs and voice stuttering, i'll try a defrag.

after that i can still install the patch, but arma wont start anymore... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif
few things to remind b4 actural trouble shooting,
a) make sure you have a "clean" install, which means all addons should be placed else where, all language pack be restored as what the game should have been
b) make sure you have tested your game with a clean driver install of different version, even more for 8800 user as some driver simply wont work on new game version
c) if possible, try to use a clean Windows install to test your game, something might have screwed on your OS
d) make sure you have the correct shortcut link with the game, which means your shortcut link with your correct location of your game.exe and your parameters inputed correctly, i am not sure but some folks did mix up the beta link with the old link and cannot start the game, also remember to remove your beta mod folder from the -mod= parameter
there should be something i missed out, anyone help me finish it?
did everything - all versions are working except 1.08
well, I believe BIS killed the game.
international 1.08 patch is not working on the 505 games DVD version even if the install process works.
WINDOWS XP SP2
GC 8800 GTX driver: 158.22 WHQL
i am still away from my home so i cant test it, but basicly i didnt get enought info about your problem enither, also the latest driver from nv is 165.01 beta, b4 that is 160.2 whql
Had some slow downs and voice stuttering, i'll try a defrag.
if you have TIR control removed from your control(zr+ of zr-, cant remember correctly) zoom in , put it back that might solve the problem

I too am unable to start ArmA after installing the 1.08 patch to my Aus DVD version.
The 1.08 update file is fine as other people have successfully used it to update and are able to play. I previously had no issues playing the 1.05 and 1.07 beta versions. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif

I have the Securom Error too but it may be because I have the International installed and am using my german DVD. So will try with a reinstall of the game
Kode why do you say that? Where do you get your information that I installed the EU version? Interesting how you state what I installed without knowing for sure. I INSTALLED THE US VERSION OF THE PATCH THANK YOU. Here is the file name:
Arma_USUpdate108.exe
Kode you aren't helpful. Go away.
geez, the level of politeness on this forum is really appaling.
the guy was trying to help you. maybe he made a mistake, or jumped to conclusion about euro-us version, but thats no reason to yell or tell someone to go away.
that will not solve your problem.

think thy updated securom, and that can change what it checks on the DVD to see if its correct, and I they are testing on readme's and so now then It would be detected as wrong.

arma 1.08 doesn't start and I don't have any error message or securom error message. nothing.
European DVD version 1.04 (French 505 GAMES)
Patched to 1.05 (tested OK)
Patched to 1.08 international patch version.
PC: C2D, RAM 4GB
XP SP2, 8800 GTX 158.22 and 16.02 quadro drivers. Xfi sound card.
I do not even see the disc/dvd icon when clicking on arma.exe . Probably some kind of securom issue without error message.
Why BIS is using securom anyway? There is a tool to remove it everywhere on the internet...

When starting up ArmA_Server.exe with the super remote management software: ServerDOC (www.serverDOC.com), a message appears: "This software requires Windows 98SE, 2000, blabalba" whereas, booting up the exe normally there is no such problem. I run the 1.08 game with ServerDoc (via Windows TSE, not the web interface) and got no special message.

Scratch one 8800 user out, Arma never ran and looked so good here. I think im seeing a bit more fog/haze now but other than that 1.08 is very smooth, loading times seem better too.
I think Vista users are the ones having problems http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif .
I'm on an 8800. ***If you're having problems with surface error( 8007000e), and maxmem doesn't work, try disabling AA. I was having the error every 30min-an hour or so but once I turned off AA, all was fine. ***

Okay first time I run 1.08 and after about 10-20mins I get a message from NVIDIA software (NTune or something I'm not sure what it's named) saying my tempature increased a lot. Never had this but as I have a notebook I always checked the tempature when fiddling around with drivers and in the beginning with ArmA. I NEVER had it above 62degrees. Now I checked it was at 82! Shut down ArmA immediatly and after another 10mins it's now at 65.
I have a GeForce 6800 GO 256MB
Just correctly updated to 1.08 from German DVD version
Ingame settings should not matter as this did not EVER happen before.
I play with FPS around 20 and tweak settings too stay around that.
I AM gonna check my ventillator and clean it from dust if it's in there but after my precious is cooled down I will have another go at 1.08 and check if that's the only problem that caused the extreme tempature increase.
So ATM I Say MOBILE GPU USERS CHECK YOUR TEMPATURE WHILE TRYING 1.08
plz do post your result back, as we need to know if its a driver problem or other non related problem
Heyas, I've been having some trouble with 1.08..
Scenario:
8800 GTS 320 meg (Gigabyte)
Running nvidia official 158.22 drivers (installed today to be sure)
Windows XP Sp2 (pro)
AMD64 3000+ Venice
Nforce 4 mobo
2 gig of DDR400
SATA 2 harddrives x 2
Audigy 4 PCI sound card
loaded boot camp map to screw around.
Flew the AH-1Z for a while, came back to the airbase and on approach noticed that the runway and buildings were not textured.
Tried to get the shift + = vram clear to work, but it didnt.
Shortly afterwards ARMA CTD'd where my Visual Studio Just-in-time debugger intercepted. Of course, I dont have pdb files so I couldnt give you anything meaningful about the crash eg. stack would have been useless without symbols.
I couldnt find the 'default' option for textures- is there a config file entry I need to make? or does it not exist for 320 meg cards?
This issue was happening on 1.07 as well- thought 1.08 would fix it. I was wrong.
Surely the compliancy with 8800 series has haywired something since my geforce 7900 never before has displayed symptoms like this before. All was fine graphicswise untill 1.07+ came out.

This texture issue wasnt affecting guns, only textures I hadnt used for a while, presumably I was flying around for 4-5 mins just getting a hang of the engine again, however as I approached the airfield, the grey buildings were the tell tale sign.

Sry to hear that mate! I wish you goodluck though.
An alternative try might be booting in Windowed mode though I think this will not help. Parameters to arma shortcut:
-x=1280 -y=1024 -window
(exchange the 1280 and 1024 with resolution).
Also people with freezes when going into Multiplayer;
Make sure that ArmA.exe is enabled in every single firewall application on ur system. Windows Firewall, other enabled firewalls... Even some popup blockers got firewalls http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Since the ArmA v1.08 exe is new/different it got a different signature, modern firewall programs check exe file name versus signature to check if a program is allowed/disallowed. Hence after every update you would need to run through ur Firewall program(s) again and enable it.

You`re current Arma Version is 1.05?
You can`t patch older versions directly up to 1.08
I can't install the 1.05 patch anymore, I have the EURO 505 version, which is 1.04.

I opened up my notebook checked for dust and anything else that could make my notebook warm up, but nothing.
Still vacumed the few dust that was in it just to be sure.
Rebooted started with 40+ degrees as usuall, after half hour on it slowely went up to 50 degrees, but still this is something i'm used too.
I opened up NVIDIA Monitor tool and closed down all bg activities and opened ArmA again, just with the normal start shortcut. When in menu I checked the warmed and my card instantly went up to 70 degrees, alt-tab back to desktop quickly showed a decrease to 60 and back to game it went up to 70 again.
Played for 20minutes and again I was back in the 80ies. So yet again instand shut-down and some ice-cubes for my precious.
I am going to check some other drivers and if they are not the problem I reinstall arma and the current driver (160.03) and check the temprature again.
But as I allready said, I'm sure my GPU temprature went never this heigh

And what can i say.... everything is sillky smooth ***http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif .
Difference between Vista and XP (for me):
* No more hd reading like crazy.
* No more jerkiness when running/driving.
* Faster loadtimes.
* Somehow it looks better, hard to explain it just do.
* No more crashes (so far at least)
So what is to blame with playing Arma in Vista?
* Memoryhandling?
* Graphics drivers?
* Arma?
* Vista itself?
I dont know but its a shame really because i really do like Vista and i havent had any trouble with other games/programes.
All i can say right now is ***http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif 1.08 ***http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif (in XP http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif )

1) Perfomance boost obvious http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif ***
2) Third party addons cause graphics troubles (bmd, BTR80 etc.)
3) With troopmon it does not take long before the strecthing poly circus begins with vehicles (even with BIS default ones)
4) Most old scenarios made with the editor with the earlier versions cause troubles
5) So far that it is all new and only BIS stuff all seems to be fine
6) I do not find the automatic setting for graphics anywhere for GF7900
EDIT: monitored my mobo and graphics card temps. They are within decent ranges so no overheating issues

updated to 1.05 Euro, then 1.08 international
I tried Sickboy`s solution and the only thing that changes was my desktop shorcut (from "helmet on letters" to "Human head with helmet"). The game would not start tough.
Any common pattern here? (As to specs, ArmA versions?)

Been following this thread since I got home, it seems quite a few of the Euro UK 505 DvD version peeps (including me) are having trouble even booting the game up now since installing the patch.
A few other people have said the same as I am to re-iterate now:-
Arma v1.04 - 505 Euro Version - Boots up, can play no problems.
Arma Patch v1.04 to v1.05 - Boots up, can play no problems.
Arma patch v1.05 to v1.08 - A story to tell about this one.
When starting Arma from a desktop shortcut, the hourglass appears for a couple of seconds on the arrow cursor, then, with previous versions, you would see a spinning disk in its place, the DvD drive starts to spin up, then you see the checkboxes and all is rosey, game starts and your presented with splash screens and eventually the menu.
But, what is happening instead, the hourglass appears, then disappears, the cd starts to spin up, for 5 seconds, then dies and spins down again. Arma appears in running processes' for a couple of seconds also, about the same time as the hourglass stays visual.
No securom spinny disc, no check boxes - nadda, just completely irresponsive, as if the cheeky PC is ignoring me http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/mad_o.gif
I have tried Sickboys OpenAL Suggestion, even the 7001 Securom suggestion, both to no avail.
I understand that security needs to be upgraded and such, but, it is a serious problem when an update of security from a 3rd party impacts the consumer in such a way. I am referring to securom through process of elimination - Could be completely wrong, however, running through the steps above, it seems tht securom isn't registering something properly, thus preventing the game from launching at all.
I have already sent an analysis log file to securom, who advised that it was incomplete and I would need to send another, which I haven't done as yet, but will do after completing this post. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/icon_rolleyes.gif
I really, really like this game, and is a shame I am having such issues with it, would like to experience the new version as soon as possible, so any info or update would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

Have you tried a third party launcher program?
I use one all the time and no problems.
Or simply running the program straight from the program folder? Is your shortcut pointing to the right place?

Wow, reading this thread sure was depressing ***http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif ***I'm installing the update now, on a 505 DVD english version, running on Vista with 8800GTX gfx... so I guess if I even get to see the splash intro it will be a miracle ***http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wow_o.gif
Yeah no doubt. ***The date on the patch file is June 6th, so they had six days to test the patch. ***Doesn't look like it was properly tested. ***I do question the competence of the BI testers. ***The public betas were better than this it seems.
The "miracle" did happen! Not only did I get the splash intro, I've played multiplayer without any serious issue for 30 minutes now http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif A bit early to conclude anything on my part, but I'm surprised I've got this far at all. Thumbs up! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif
Can't be bothered to read the entire thread, but the people getting CTDs......
are you on Nvidia cards?
If so, updating to the latest drivers may fix this issue.
What version drivers do you suggest? 158.22 official or 158.45 beta? I'm using 158.22 but the game doesn't even start, so no CTD here.
Errr not sure mate, all i know is i kept crashing, got that big arse mem error, updated Nvidia drivers using thier site, and havent had it again.

Concerning the not being able to boot problem might indeed be securom related, you might want to throw in a Support Ticket at Securom.

@ Torni - I don't launch using a launcher problem, thanks for the suggestion, but, to be honest, the game should run using the desktop icon provided as is.
Also, I have not altered my clean installation in anyway, I have no 3rd party addons installed and the desktop icon is as installed which I haven't modified in anyway since my clean install

I got that probelm too.
Install 1.08 over 1.05, process finishes without any problem.
Put the dvd in and click play. Nothing happens. I try again. Same problem. I remove the disk to see if there is any message. It asks me for the dvd. I put it back in, nothing happens.
I can read the dvd without any problem, I was playing yesterday without any problem. Now with 1.08 I can't play no more
I only had the FDF sound pack. I'm gonna reinstall the whole thing to see if there is any change.
I reinstalled, and the same problems, the 1.05 works fine, the dvd is read and the game launched. As soon as I install 1.08 nothing happends and the game won't load.
Any ideas?

Okay heres my problem, fortunately Up until now I have had no problems with any such patch but 1.08s killing me here, my rig is a;
x1950xtx 512mb
E6300
2GB Geil
I have the latest ati drivers including the hotfix.
And my firewall and virus controls are all off.
After a successful installation with no problems what-so-ever Ive fired up my game and jumped into parasio, initially it seemed much smoother and then I decided to get an aerial view
http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif
Mad Lockup every 5 seconds like a lag-loop, So I hit default and tried again, same problem smooth then insanely bad lockup.
So I lowered the settings to the lowest possible very low and off and Im still getting this horrible freezing often for up to 1second at a time. I can now however cranked all the graphics up to very high and it plays as smooth as very low until It begins to slow down unbearably, any idea guys http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif

I have the US version downloaded since I have Combat Operations. The problem I have is that when I go to install it it says "ArmA is not installed on your computer or installation is corrupted." I'm thinking this could be because it was installed on the default C drive, but since I have a second hard drive, E, and moved it to that, that it won't let me install it. There has got to be a way to change the installation path. Thanks.

Patch process is quite heavy for the system... OverHeated it must be.
I would check it with Everest.
Overclocking issues also come easily to light with search iterations.

This post is regarding those with problems launching the game. I contacted SecuRom support and this was their response.
Hello.
Thank you for your e-mail. Do you have a Windows update called 'KB917422'installed on your computer? I ask this because there is a software conflict with this update and the ability to either play your game and/or create an analysis file.
To check to see if you have this update installed, go to:
1. "My Computer", and open C:\ drive
2. Within C:\ drive, open "Windows"
3. Under 'System Tasks' (in blue bar at left), click on "Add/Remove Programs"
4. Search for this update.
If you find that you have this 'KB917422' update installed, Microsoft has now released a new update called 'KB924867' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924867) that fixes this problem. Please download this update and your game will work fine.
Now this solution did NOT work for me. However perhaps somebody else will have some more luck.
Its not heat Sickie, I made sure to discount as much as possible all the usual suspects, it remains at around 60c, is not overclocked and of course .. it has all worked before !
The last resort will be an XP re-install but why the hell should anyone have to do that just to get a game working ?
Personally I dont' think BIS have the talent to pull off a game like this, Arma is basically OFP with better graphics and a little extra content, and it's that extra content that is fubar.
and this forum is seriously overloaded http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

For those yet to install 1.08 (Who have 1.07 Beta installed..)

Guys Guys Im Sure BIS are working hard on a Hot fix as we speak.
"Yay!" I thought after my 2 hour download came to an end, "finally I'll be able to play 1.08 after all the hype!"
"ArmA is not installed on your system or installation is damaged"
- Excuse me? I think you'll find ArmA is installed Mr. Patch!
So what the hell, I try without any modified files in the ArmA main folder, try again, same stuff. So I do a complete reinstall.
Now I'm struggling with the 1.05 Patch.. Said there was en error with sara.pbo, so another install and let's hope it goes well this time! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Wish me luck! I don't want to wait another 2 hours for 1.05 to download again if this one doesn't work.. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif

there is a .reg file inside, please open it in NOTEPAD, and edit the path setting correctly to where you have installed ArmA.
Make sure that any \ is listed twice as in the example: \\
After editingthe file and saved, double click it, let it import into the registry and try again.
Make sure you fill in the right path to your ArmA installation folder!!

You can try send a mail to starforce/securom and say them what's your problem.
If i remember right, they ask guys to launch a small program to detect what's the problem.
So if it is a dvd protection problem, they will find it. (they send unprotected .exe when you can't launch the game 'cause of their protection, at least for securom)

Of course I couldn't try the 1.07 beta because I have the digital download, so I waited.
Installing 1.08 (the 300 meg version) went fine, full 100% and it said it was done. When I launch the exe, I get 5 seconds of acting like it's going to load, and a "send error report" before the check marks even show up.

I have the US Atari Download version, worked fine up till now.
Ugh.
What the error report is saying ?
I cant install the patch at all. Getting messages like this:
Error found in file AddOns\air.pbo (fe592cae!=a633578f)
I have no idea what it means. playing (not really) EU 1.05.
Has anyone else had problems trying to unzip the patch? I have downloaded it from two separate links and both say that the file is corrupt???

Do you use a zip software ? Maybe you can try another software (sometimes you got error 'cause the software need to be updated)
I've downloaded successfuly the file from http://www.clubic.com/lancer-....08.html (http://www.clubic.com/lancer-le-telechargement-48019-0-arma-armed-assault-patch-v1-08.html)
(french website, but if i remember right you don't need an account to download file)
I have tried the windows built in zip program and also winrar, both say that the files are corrupt

Any of you guys who are getting corrupt downloads, or just plain slow try
Here (http://arma.valuenet.nl/ArmA_InternationalUpdate105_108.zip)
Works great for me, and got a steady rate of 100Kbs when compared with 30kbs off the others ... Cheers! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Lots of info about corrupted files(download) and further reasons
why the patching process might fail.
Same infos therein apply to 1.08 as well. Check carefully.

Guys, when posting these horribly long arma error logs, please consider using pastebin.ca (pastebin.co.uk pastebin.com etc) and just copy/paste the pastebin link in here instead of the whole log, more pleasantly reading and not such a waste of Forum http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Yea well since I've been busy trying to solve this problem for the past 10 hours due to my lack of finding anything better to do until I go to work, I decided to make a comical little image depicting my feelings throughout the day.
http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/8163/diesecuromwv1.jpg
Anyways back on topic, so far today, I have done the following to try to get my ArmA 1.08 to simply launch.
-Uninstall ArmA, apply International 1.08
-Uninstall ArmA, apply US 1.08
-Download updated Microsoft hotfix that SecuRom said would fix the problem
-Uninstall half of my Microsft hotfix's to see if they were conflicting with anything
-Play around in the Registry
None of it to any avail. Has any lucky bastard with this problem managed to overcome it yet? Pardon the language but I am just a tad bit frustrated at this point.
Anyone using the nvidia 7 series, download latest drivers from nvidia site,
(ForceWare Release 90
Version: 94.24
Release Date: May 31, 2007)
Place in armas shortcut target (right click scroll down to properties) "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\arma.exe" -maxmem=512
Turn textures detail in arma options to default.
I did recieve the crazy artifacts on screen since installing patch 1.08 and also kept recieving chrash to desktops. 2 more of my team members did too and they too did not have problems till 1.08 Its a lil more stable since i have done the things ive stated here but am not impressed with a patch that made my working copy into something that seems to have some major chrashes if i were to leave it as a standard install. Hopefully a hotfix or another patch will be released soon.

imustkill I love that pic!! Maybe we need to erect a billboard across the street from SecuROM and BIS so they can see it without denying it! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif Yeah.. I'm bought the game and I've always had mixed feelings but this patch put me over the edge. This game has had moments of pure bliss interrupted by more moments of total letdown.
I just now found an ArmA folder in My Documents.. I'll try deleting that. *SHRUG*

Maybe you can tell SecuRom the problem don't solve with the microsoft fix.
What have you done ? Right click on shortcut, then "launch analysis" ?
I don't know why BIS put that dvd protection on their game. Still some dev who don't use them (aaaaah Relic ! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif)

I told SecuRom the problem wasn't solved about 4-5 hours ago I'd say. I sent them the Launch Analysis in the first E-Mail I sent to them.
I'm just about all out of ideas except for reformatting my hard drive /reinstalling Windows and all of that. But I really am reluctant to do that unless I am sure that it will work afterwards. This issue has not given me any error messages, the problem is simply that nothing, nada, zilch happens after 1.08 is installed and you try to start the game.

No joy as yet - I have had a response from Securom Support however, after creating and forwarding a 'Launch Analysis' to them.
Please see below:-

Not sure if people are aware of how to create the 'Launch Analysis' file. If you do already, apologies as am posting for those who don't.
Right-Click your desktop shortcut or Arma.exe.
Click 'Launch Analysis'
Press accept and after 30 - 40 secs, a file named 'AnalysisLog.sr0' will be placed into your C: dir.
Rar or zip that up an send it over to the above address' with a description as to what the problem is.

i got that one after 5 minutes of play.
http://pix.nofrag.com/f7/23/011605eb2a5a0217dd1ecec008f8.jpg
I was getting a lot of CTDs especially that message after installing 1.08.
I found that to get stability out of the game, drop your settings as low as they will go, play for a bit, and then step by step increase the settings until they become unstable.
I download the patch...
I install the patch...
I try to run the game...
This shit pops up:
http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/8240/motherfuckersm7.jpg
The name of the picture pretty much sums up my responce.
Hoping to get some immediate help, I try the link to the SecuROM page:

Well, needless to say this really brightened up my day, and I know I broke the picture rules and I don't really care.
Here I see I'm not the only one with this retarded problem. All a guy asks is to unwind at the end of the day with his favourite game... then he can't. So this dampened my love for anything related to this game. Good night.
@ All this time
If you get texture errors with default texture settings, change the setting to "very high" (works for me), or test another setting.
I use an 7600GS 512MB AGP Card.
ok i got my version from sprocket and its 1.05 when i downloaded it , and i cannot install the patch heres the error the installer gives me-
"File Missions\library.sara.pbo is missing"
and wont let me install any further
i have tried reinstalling the game but still nothing
anyone have this problem?

Jun 11 2007, 22:47
Well After installing the patch the game runs very poorly and crashes. Sounds starts dropping out (hardware accelleration is disabled) and the a freeze followed by a CTD. Frame rates about half of that I got on my min spec rig with the 1.07 beta.
Wondering if I got a corrupt download since, although the install process reported success and the correct ver number shows up in the main menu screen, the INSTALL process took over two hours to complete.
Is it normal for the installer to take that long?

For securom problem.
Right on the ArmA ShortCut, then select "Launch Analysis"
It will take some mins and drop file (on the desktop i think) don't remember the name but you should find it easily
Go to www.securom.com then to support section. Mail them with the file attach.
Wait for them to mail you again (there is an auto mail generated after your request, wait for the real answer ! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif )

I too get the same errors
What appears to be happening is that the gfx memory is being reduced by malloc type calls , but the "programmer" ( term used loosley) is not calling free to reallocate the memory back into the heap.
When you go thru the rpt file the memory usage is always going up never down ........ eventually you get to this point

ErrorMessage: Cannot create system memory surface DXT5,2048x1024 (size 2818048 B)

As this error only seems to happen with arma , one can conclude that the blameometer would be swinging in the general direction of Bis.
Well, needless to say this really brightened up my day, and I know I broke the picture rules and I don't really care.
I hope I don't really have to care then as well? +1WL for the pic and 24h PR to give you some time to think about caring for the rules.

For those who have problems with DXT5 or DXT something, you can also try to update directx components.
DXT is a compression format include in the DirectX API. Maybe an updated version of DirectX 9.0C could solve this problem. (the last version of DirectX 9 is the June one)
I don't know where you can find the english version, the french version is available here http://www.clubic.com/telecharger-fiche10906-directx.html
The June version will also work on Windows Vista.
I think "default" texture is a new option for GeForce 8 with more than 512 VRAM. (that is what i understand)
Sure, that does not mean it will not work for "older" cards with not more than 512MB VRAM.
I wonder that this time someone read my post.
This days no one read another page in an topic, than that on top. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif

Seems to be running fine on mine... 505 DVD, 1.05 updated to 1.08.
Had problem initially cos I used a backup with a hacked ca.pbo, gave the
error xdelta3 returned error code
error on that pbo.
Solution was to put the non-hacked one back in and install then went smoothly.
So: to anyone getting the xdelta error, make sure you are running a full non-hacked and clean installation of ArmA 1.05 before applying the 1.08 patch. You would have got a pbo warning which you had skipped first before you got that error that terminated your install.
Probably DON'T need to re-download your patch, but a clean reinstall would help you.
Don't forget to backup your player ID if you are in a clan and / or use custom squad.xml!

Ok...
My sit,
Bought ArmA by 505Games (1.04)
Updated to 1.05 then to 1.05FIX.
Got the 1.07 but expierenced some
problems with no gun and gunfire from
chest..REMOVED all extra addons (non BI)
Fixed. Got the 1.07FIX worked fine. And now
1.08.5157 or something works great.
If your having problems, try to remove the intire
game with ALL folders even user ones. Then reinstall,
Patch up and LEAVE the orig addons folder alone. IF
you install additional addons put them in a modfolder.
When your done installing make a shortcut from your ORIG
arma.exe and name it ArmA + Addons or something and in the
startfield of that file you enter:
"C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\arma.exe" -nosplash mod=@Mapfact ....Were mod=@Mapfact
equals YOUR extra addonfolder...
NOTE THIS:
There ARE problems with additional addons as i have
found them NOT compatible with 1.08. Like Mapfact,
voice quiet, FDF, Evans A10 and so on..
So the best way to be sure its not the game thats causing
problems LEVE the orig addonfolder alone..
AND, COPY! the orig arma.exe. That way you will
have a CLEAN game to try out...

Then....installed to a new folder...then patched to 1.05 (from 1.04). At this point I have a working game...no problems...no extra folders...nada....just good old Arma 1.055136... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif THEN.....I installl the "correct" 1.05 to 1.08 patch and all this goes to the HOT PLACE in a handbasket. So now my game sits at 1.055136....awaiting the "real" patch..... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif. Oh ....I have sent my file off to Securom as well.....not that I should frikken have to do that.... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif.
Scarerom hates everything, i guess http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif
Having problems server side, using the server.exe with the 1.08 patch runs fine, but none on my computers with the 1.08 patch on them can connect to the server http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif???
any one help ?
I am also having server problem.
ArmA_server.exe on leased server says it running on one of control pages, but another says status is unavailable and the server doesnt apear in my server directory. Others do so I know it isnt client side.
Incedentally, Direct2Drive version (1.06) patched with 1.08US works flawlessly for me..no other mods installed. I feel like the patch was a big improvement, though I cant quite say completely why yet, for sure it is in part to smoother gameplay, less ai warping and crisper graphics.
Ok, I got, its all working now, with alot of corrections made.
All I did was purge everything, (well not the computer)
I uninstalled ArmA, reinstalled, reinstalled 1.05, then reinstalled 1.08. All works like a charm, I probably didnt have to re install 1.05 but I did just in case.

I have done that already. I'm waiting for an answer though.
But the other people with the same problem who have already conteacted securom support haven't received any solution yet, so I assume I have to wait for a fix from BI or for the copy protection to be removed from the game....

OK, here's a new twist on the game won't start after 108...
I've a dual boot system, on XP I try and start the game, disc spins up, but then nothing.
Tried on Vista, game disc spins up and...game loads normally! ( But runs like poo )
I have tried all the solutions so far posted but they have not made any difference. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif

Thanks Dwarden! I tried that resolution but it did not work. I deleted all the registry entires except for my hard drives which I can't have re-assigned to the default letters - that would totally hose my windows install that has been working for about two years now. That's just crazy for SecuROM and BIS to expect people to go to such lengths to get the game working. Yeah I had dmon tools installed but I uninstalled it and that still hasn't fixed the game from not even loading to a boot screen.
I feel very much let down and abandoned by BIS at this point.
I seem to have massive hard drive accessing about 10mins into the game and then Arma rebooted my PC. My hard ware is:
E6600
ATI x1950 512MB
Gigabyte DS3P
I'm using ATI hotfix drivers and PC isn't over clocked.

I played the last few hours pretty nicely without a single CTD [considering i was getting them from 1 second to 5min]. I installed ForceWare 160.03 Vista 64-bit.
BUT, i notice that when I play on that Evolution map, that when i drive to the first town, part way there, theres always this one spot where it starts to get laggy then it will CTD, i have no idea why either. There are sometimes where a map will load but sometimes just freeze and i'll have to ALT+CTRL+DEL and close the game down. I think tho i had more problems BEFORE i installed that Forceware driver then After it [theres still some problems, but its much more playable then before] I do have the - maxmem=768 on, I dunno if thats helping either, I think i will try it without and see how that works after installing the new forceware.

I keep getting this error! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif
I got something like this twice, once my temp directory had filled up with 32,000+ files and another the permissions (on NTFS partition) had been changed somehow.
The patch creates a copy of the program xdelta3 in the temp directory so check out temp directory is not full of files, low on disk space or inaccessible.
Hope that helps.

TBH, people can blame Vista all they want. At the end of the day it IS a new OS but similarly, I dont have any issues with other games. So I call shenanigans. Vista has to be supported as it is the flagship OS now and within a year or so pretty much every gamer will be using it. BIS have time to fix the problems, so no big deal at the end of the day. In the meantime, back to XP if you want to play ArmA.

I get CTDs with the CreateIndexBuffer error mentioned earlier between 30 seconds and 5 minutes in, even if sitting in the main menu. This error was introduced (for me atleast) in the first v1.07 patch and continued with v1.07b and now v1.08.

I will be getting a whole new system in about a month so I guess I'll have to play it unpatched until then and just pray the new system doesn't suffer from the plethora of errors I'm seeing in this thread. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi
Has anyone got Armed assault working in Vista yet, i have installed the new patch ok with no hitch.
The game starts up ok with no problem then after playing for 10mins, looking at building trees etc. the textures look flat and lifeless??
I just wanted to know if anyone else is playing this game ok with similar system under vista as i dont know if its the game developer fault, vista not compatible or bad nvidia drivers?
Done maxmem, updated drivers etc etc.
Dissapointed user...
There's something that this patch broke a bit.
Now the game is extremely unstable if I use maxmem more than 512..
If I use 1024 the game will crash within seconds of playing (10 seconds of the main GUI background 'movie' was enough) and the game will freeze the whole PC, quite badly.
It actually crashes so bad that for example the signal from the gcard to the monitor disappears..
Maxmem at 768 and the game runs a bit longer but the same thing happens eventually (within 1-2 minutes), happens both in full-screen and windowed mode..
Preceeding the crash FPS starts to slow down until the game is a complete slide show (like 2 FPS) before it freezes completely..
The 1.07.5157 beta was stable at maxmem 1024, only time it froze the PC was when alt-tab was used too extensively (apparently the memorysurface 0800eblah blah error was replaced with the freeze)..
I don't want to make any more tests because once the game crashes the HD is quite active and I don't want to damage it, as the only way to recover from that crash is to reset..
Then again, this isn't really that big of an issue because I never noticed any performance gain in using higher maxmem..
Just to mention, no voltage drops or heat issues, both CPU cores and the GPU ran below 50 celcius (no temperature spikes either)..

2Gb Ram
AMD 64 4200+ X2 AM2
Ass M2N-Sli Deluxe nForce-570

Other than this crash issue everything else seems just fine for me http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif i cant play the game no more, these crashes are making me insane. Ah nice coop, ok guys lets go, 25% of the trip in and CTD!!!
Before i even get into any action http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Do the Arma programmers actually test the patches before they are released? 229 replies to problems must mean something - I'm rather annoyed at the lack of care that goes into throwing patches out left right and center, something is quite clearly wrong. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif

I've had a CTD after about 30 minutes of testing.
I got there a very cpu intensive mission with lots of
tanks and infantry and explosions - no crash.
Then i thought i'd give the A10 a try - only me in my A10
flying.
When flying very low i started noticing the graphical artifacts
being seen alot when using bad drivers or when the gpu
is overheating - i mean the vector style graphics.
Also lots of street textures were replaced by sand textures
all around the place.
Then i crashed the plane into a building - game starts freezing
and suddenly CTD + the 800700xx message - cannot create
surface memory (soz don't know exactly but the message
seems to be well known and has been posted already in here).
In combination with DXT5 or so.
Gonna have to check if it was some settings i've changed
or if it's my 1024 maxmem (but 1024 worked before fine).
And for the statistics:
I have a 7950 GT KO 512mb and it's the first time i'm getting
problems like this now.
Previous versions did run smooth and without any problems.

if ur not a vista user try running the game with -maxmem=512

Just give it a few days and there will be a hotfix. I bet Suma is stressing just as much as we are trying to find what is causing the crashes. Remeber he is the guy who has too look though millions of code and find the problem, could you do that?

basicly we are looking at one game that Murphy's Law simply applied too well on
I fixed my problem ( PC freezing trying to install 1.04 to 1.05 ).
I suspected CPU usage and added /NumProc=1 to boot.ini
The update completed without any problem. Now I have copied the 1.05 addons, the campaign pbo and arma.exe to another hard drive just in case 1.08 fails.
Oh, and due to the previous 7 attempts I have a massively fragmented games partition so will try 1.08 after the defrag.
It might be a worthwhile test for dual-core owners to limit the pc to one core and see if the problems remain ?

It looks like I'm the only one with heating problems, but as I don't have that much time to test what's causing it at the moment, I "hope" to see some more people posting/checking if their MOBILE GPU is getting way hotter then before.
If that is not the case I'm glad because then it's not ArmA, but yet again I'm worried about what it is then, as I allready said I'm 99% sure it did not happen with previous ArmA versions as yesterday was the first time I got a critical note saying my temp went up suddenly

I hardly think this has anything to do with the Dual or non Dual core setup mate when it comes to installations crashing and hanging and rebooting... I really say it must be your heat, as when you leave 1 core totally unused (as you do with /NumProc=1), it suddenly works.
Only 1 core working instead of 2 is a lot less heat... And let's say that those f**king p4's love to create heat!
Try searching for SP2004 on google, which is Stress Prime 2004, there is also a dualcore version out: SP2004 Orthos Edition, run that baby, check ur temps and see if you get errors (usually errors popup in under 30 minutes but the real subtle buggers can take up to 20 hours !!http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif, I would bet a crate of beer that with both cpu's enabled you will find at least 1 cpu erroring out and heat getting prolly the worst of ur cpu http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
@ sickboy
I really wouldn't mind 20 hours between crashes http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
I have been watching temps using the Rightmark CPU clock utility but am not sure if it just takes an average of the 2 cores.
Having said that, when 2 cores were in use, one was at 99-100% and the other at 5-10% utilisation !?!
I have noticed with CPU-Z that the cores are not running at exactly identical speeds so maybe one is flaky (its an E6300 ) but there's no denying that disabling one stopped the freezing ( am writing an entry for Ripleys Believe it or Not
