Performace difference between patch 1.05 and patch 1.08
Patch 1.05:
http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/8160/arma2007051714033671uz0.jpg

Patch 1.08:
http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/340/arma2007061211510089jd3.jpg

I forgot to take a SS with the patch 1.05. But i'm using the same video options as the patch 1.08:
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/8657/arma2007061211503137km9.jpg

The FPS difference was even worse, i was getting 20 fps in the same place, with the same ship and video options, but after i instaled DX june, it went to 30.

The game its much more beaty now, but i can't play some missons any more, because the fps get below 10 fps.
Please BIS, in the next patch try to improve the game performace in the low end vgas, like the 6800.

well, I contacted securom support and they told me the same that to everyone else.

Quote[/b] ]
Hello.

Thank you for your email. We are sorry you are having launch issues. We
suspect you are receiving this error message as a result of the use of an
emulation program that tampers registry keys.

To fix your registry entries please follow the instructions below:

Note: These tampered entries have NOT been caused by SecuROM?. Please also
note, you should only delete duplicate entries and not any others.
SecuROM? is not liable for any problems caused by using these
instructions. We provide them only as a service and to assist with
repairing the launch issue.

Please open the registry editor (Start->Run->regedit) and move to the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices\ ***area (by clicking on this
folder, you will see all the entries on the right side). Look at the
entries with an alpha designation (ie: \DosDevices\Letter_Here). You
should see one of entries with letters with duplicate entries. If you
delete the duplicate entry (right mouse click and choose 'Delete' from the
choices), you should be able to exit RegEdit and launch your program.

If the problem persists, please delete all REG_BINARY entries in this
folder (only blue ones on the right side). Reboot your computer
immediately, the entries will be re-established, and the game should
start.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Best regards,

SecuROM Support Team
SecuROM on the web: http://www.securom.com
or via e-mail: support@securom.com

I have followed all the steps and the game is still not loading.
Also, be aware that that "fix" mess up all your drive letters configuration except C:. I have 9 HDD partition plus the optical drives, and I had to reassign everything as it was before.

So I think that for this problem there is not a "tweak" solution, so we will have to wait BI to release a hotfix or something.
It is a shame, I have clan games on Fridays, 1.08 is already the standard, and I won't be able to play. I hope they release the hotfix before then. ***http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif

If that doesn't work, ask securom.. they have to do something, it is their protection. They have the unprotected exe, they can send it to you.

I have already replied the last secuRom mail telling them that none of their solutions work. I'm waiting for a reply to see what they say http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/mad_o.gif

Hello all,

I too, have had the "Cannot create system memory surface" error which gave me the most horrid CTD Ive ever had.

Half of desktop was corrupted and only way out was a reset.

Also, testure "streaming"(?) is far worse in cities. Alot of very evident LOD changes in the textures.

Also, more than usual "standard" CTD's.

Im running on a low spec :

Dell e520
2.6Ghz Duo
1Gig Ram
Audigy 2 Plat Ex
e-Ge-Force 7950-GT-Ko (512mb)
Sata HDDrive (think 160Gig)

All settings mostly at Normal or Low at 1024x768 (Shadows on high)

Other than that(&#33http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif, patch seems fine for me.

Heres my specs:

P4 3.2ghz
2Gb Ram
256 mb GEFORCE 6800GT
2x250 GB HDD
M-Audio Delta 1010LT Soundcard

This has been the perfect setup for me.

Only thing i experienced was today. I tried to alter my
exe startfield settings and add -maxmem1024. That
coused some horrible freezes and ctd´s. Aswell as that
graphicspike that looks like nothing else, all grey and white
stripes and spikes all over the screen.
I removed the -maxmem1024 line and it all works fine now.
I have almost everything on normal and 1024x768 res.
It flows fine here. Dont know what FPS but hey, as long
as the game works and is playeble without hickups im
ok with it.

I'm getting the "Cannot create memory surface", but only once a day or so.

Other than that, performance is up and things are looking a lot nicer. My preferences keep resetting themselves to "Normal" though, which is a bit annoying..

Oh and Sickboy, the Core2 processor has nothing in common with the Pentium4 apart from x86 compatibility. It creates about half the heat, too.

Well im going to eat my words, i complained about texture problem etc earlier and decided to completly remove arma and reinstall.
Removed all trace of Arma, reinstalled then patched to v1.05, updated new nvidia driver v160.04, patched arma to v1.08, set maxmem=512 and the game now runs like a charm.

Persistence paid off, very happy now!

Removing any Villas addons you have or downloading the fix in his thread should fix that problem.

And yes, I've noticed a significant increase in Crashes in ArmA, though that may be partly due to warmer weather, which I've currently remedied.

I crash before entering the game, just get a default "ArmA has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.", I don't get the check marks or anything.

My rig is as follows:
AMD Athlon 3800X2+ @ 2.5ghz
Abit AN8-32x NForce4 mobo with latest drivers
4 gigs ram
8800GTS 320 meg
Soundblaster X-fi XtremeMusic

I went as far as getting a refund on my digital download and picking up a hard copy of the game to see if it worked. Same EXACT problem after I update to 1.08. This is the only game that is encountering any problem on my machine, so it's not windows. And I DO have x-fi set to game mode.

Game worked fine in 1.06

Jun 12 2007, 19:56
I downloaded patch 1.08 U.S. version and installed it over the 1.06 download I bought. When I try to start arma up nothing happens and I get the Arma has encountered a problem and needs to close message. I uninstall, delete everything arma related and then reinstall. It still doesn't work, even with 1.06 it gives me the same error.

Sigh.....

Applied patch ok to a 1.05 (fresh install) which was working and the DVD spins up then stops and nothing happens.

From what I have read elsewhere it may be secureROMS fault but why would BIS release software that would not work with secureROM? This is basic testing.

And before Chris gets on his high horse again I can efficiently test the software I deliver and the same goes for game developers. Each is efficient at testing their own area, supposedly.

MATRA, I have almost the same system.

Try to use “Texture Quality” = High and add –maxmem=512 to arma shortcut. Do not use “Default”. It will crash the game (even with –maxmem=512).

Make sure you have “localVRAM=768081920 (if you have 8800 GTX with 768 megs of memory)”

Work for me so far. I have CTD every 5 min when I use Texture Quality “Default”

I have my 108 running...yes believe it or not. I do not have any "emulation software that tampers registry keys" on my system...even tho SecuRom said that is what was causing the problem. I had done a fresh install last nite (for the 3rd time) and had left the game at 105.1356. Tonite after dinner...and a good brisk walk with the dog, I sat down to slay this dragon. I opened up regedit and went to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices key and turfed all the \??\Volume keys out of the registry. I left all my lettered drive keys in there as there were no duplications...and I did NOT want to screw with Windows when I was done. I then installed the latest Windows patchs...today was patch day don't you know... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif and rebooted my system. I checked out the registry to see what happened on the reboot...there were a bunch of \??\Voulme keys in there again....but I just left them alone. I installed the 108 patch...again with NO errors (4th time now) and once that was done I added the -nosplash to the desktop link and with a trembling hand I double clicked the ArmA icon.......the hourglass spun......the little cd appeared.....then the boxes with the ticks appeared...and by the GODS...it started. What a bunch of cow dung...I still have no idea just WHY I had to jump thru those frikken hoops...and it looks like we may never really know why either...unless someone finds their cajones and actually fesses up to what real deal is. Good luck to all of you that cannot get the game to run....cuz I do not think there will be much help coming down the pipe... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif.

For people who have ATI cards and get this error, try older drivers. Using Latest and before last drivers I get this memory error within 30min everytime.

Having now Rolled back to version 8.33.0.0 of version date 20/12/06 ATI drivers (sorry Ive no idea what Catalyst version this is, all Im going off is in my Device Manager on Windows Vista) I no longer get crashes and can run at 6k Viewdistance all day with no maxmem being used at all in the shortcut.

Hello!

I bought the game 2 weeks ago and I was very saticfied to it even though it lagged quite a bit for me with versions 1.04 and 1.05.

Now when I installed 1.08 everything runs smooth and almost lag free. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif

But.. Everytime I start playing, and after about 3 to 5 minutes of gaming the game crashes and gives either this "CreateIndexBuffer failed (8876017c)" message or then a window pops up that says ArmA has detected an error and the product must be closed (the window throught what I can report errors to Microsoft..), no idea what causes this. Both of the errors happen without any warning.

What should I do?

System specs following:
Mainboard : Unspecified P4M266-PM12-TL
Processor : Intel Pentium 4 @ 2666 MHz
Physical Memory : 1024 MB (2 x 512 DDR-SDRAM )
Video Card : ATI Technologies Inc Radeon X800 Pro/GTO (clocked with ATITool from 475/450 to 532/483; latest drivers installed, yes also the ATI hotfix..)
Hard Disk : ST3250620A (250 GB)
Hard Disk : WDC (160 GB) <-- The disc that ArmA is installed on
Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.01.2600 Service Pack 2

Ps. Soz if this has been asked before, I didn't find anything relative to it (except the CreateIndexBuffer failed) with search tool.

Pps. Should I search for errors in the log files? Where are these log files?

EDIT: I usually play with settings set to default or low/very low..

I am having an issue with exporting and saving the mission in the (SP)editor. I have not tried the MP one. Anything outside the editor does not export. IE scripts etc. So if I change a script and export it to MPmissions it copies the file if it was already there.

To be more clear if you export a mission to MP then change a script and export it again, it copies the pbo that was already in the MPmissions folder, so you get 2 of the same pbos and not the one you just changed.

I launched the 1.07 beta to make sure my game wasnt whacked and it works fine.

Im also having save issue (saving a mission as a user file) But I cant put my finger on exactly what it is yet. I just know somethings not right.

There is an error file stored in the ArmA directory (don't remember the name), i think it is a great idea to send it to BIS.

Also you can try add -maxmem 512 to the shortcut you are using (right click - properties and add that after the target of the shortcut c:\arma\arma.exe -maxmem 512)

In my entire gaming career, since the dawn of games like Wings of Fury, Test Drive and Wolfenstein 3D I have never been as frustrated as I am with this game.

My honest opinion is that Armed Assault is a disaster, quite frankly I'm in awe of myself for not turning to violence and destroying stuff around me...

I'm on a brand new computer, which in my humble opinion should easily get this gaming working;

Dual core 2 E6600 2,4ghz - 2 gig ram, Nvidia Geforce 8800GTX 768mb ram, vista 32.

I'm getting thrown to desktop like crazy,8007000e error, or just a warning saying the program has stopped working. WTF GUYS?!

And yes I've tried all different settings, resolutions, maxmem etc...

I read somewhere that BI had released the patch and gone on vacation. I'm starting to believe this..... How come there is no official statements regarding the vast amount of problem people are having with their program. If they are on vacation I hope the weather is pissing down on them.

My 2 cents; Bohemia Interactive are killing themselves with this kind of substandard programming.

I want BI to make an official statement admitting the problems and making a real effort to resolve the issues.

I've spent over 65$ on this game, I expect it to work.

Honestly, this opinion is in a word, idiotic. Ignoring Vista is tantamount to financial suicide. It was in development for 5 years or more, every developer and his sister knew it was coming and yet we get this silly attitude from many of the people on here.

If Bohemia arent going to support their game under Vista, ArmA will not be around for long. They have a small grace period as many people have not switched to Vista yet but I can tell you this, I play ALL my old games (In some cases 3 or 4 year old ones) in Vista with no problems EXCEPT ArmA.

Its time to stop blaming the OS. Its been around for about 6 months now and after Crysis, Conan etc show up it wont be long before the majority of gamers will be switching. ArmA is the problem here, not Vista. Yes, I could boot into XP, it is on a seperate partition, but I dont see why I should have to for ONE GAME! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif

Shall we understand that Vista users will be forgotten by BIS ? Strange answer.

I know all cannot work well because of various hardware/software in the PC environment. But well testing the game before releasing new patch is the min. requirement. (lots of server switch to 1.08, so only people with 1.08 working can join their friend or their community)

Maybe you don't have Vista, lots of people got it now and more are coming. It is sold with PC, you can't do anything about that.. there should be a problem when developer will stop supporting XP.

Also some people still have problems with GeForce 8 + XP. So it might not be always Windows Vista the source of these problems.

Now a little question, can a BIS member or Moderator or anyone else who know the answer say what is the file who is created after ArmA crashed. That could maybe help BIS to quickly patch.. the patch. (reminds me MicroSoft to say things like that http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif )

I have not said that Vista is the problem, I said he might try it with XP and see if the problem still occurs.

I have 2 Vista licences here (which came with the new hardware) and had only problems running ArmA on them. Both are long time replaced by XP Pro and since then I never had any problems running ArmA again.

The usage of both Vista and a GF8800 series card seems to cause more problems then just using one of the two (I don't have a GF8800 card), but like said above it might be worth an attempt.

ethne I strongly recommend you don't call me idiotic here again. You might do that with your friends, but I'm not one of them.

Dont start power tripping. I didnt call you idiotic I said that your particular opinion was. If I misunderstood what you were trying to put accross then I apologize but it sounded condescending and Vista is a reality that BIS will have to embrace, like it or not.

Let's try not to go all anger-boy on eachother.

The reason why I've never been as frustrated by a game before, is because I've never had so high expectations to a game. I loved OFP, and checked out numerous videos of this game in advance of my purchase...and it looked bloody marvellous...

I fully understand that there will be issues regarding such a complex game, but remember we're not talking minor glitches here...the bloody game does not work...I want it to work..hence my frustration.

I believe it's my right to speak my mind, when I've paid for something that in my opinion does not work.

all to respect Donionz, i think there is a different

i have borrowed my friend vista copy which he said he would not touch for another half a year, i install it onto my computer to see how it run, then i install quite a few games to test out the performence, funny things is, there are a few games that i couldnt get it work, CoH, SH4, and some older one, i do a little search on their forums and find others are able to run them, but in my case, i just couldnt get them working, even after messing them around for hours, now BF2 and R6:V do run OK on the vista, but i see no point if other games are not working, funny things is, i had also tried ARMA with vista and it works (but with piss poor performence), so i got the idea that right now, vista is not a gaming system i am looking for, just yet, i might be back to test it later, but right now, its out of my list

whats this story tells me? vista is a hit and run, you have no idea what will work on it and whats not, ArmA are the same story, it may work on my system, but it may cause a lot of issus on the rig which are the same spec

Bad luck with getting those games working but they all work perfectly on Vista.

"Vista is not a gaming system"

Are you serious? It has an API (DX10) that was built from the ground up to enhance gaming. As many here have already stated, ArmA is the only game that they have problems with in Vista.

In about 2 months the first DX10 titles will appear and the majority of gamers who have not already will be moving to Vista. This is a problem that needs to be addressed directly by BIS and the blaming of the 8800 and/or Vista needs to stop.

Vista is not optimised for gaming just yet, for christ sake most games newly released were released before vista came out so they couldnt of been made to work properly. And if you dont like the game now PO and come back at a later time when the problems will have been fixed and if you dont want to then thats not our problem so stop complining. ffs.

Vista runs everything else just fine. Im not going to enter into a stupid flame war about this. Yourself (and BIS) can ignore Vista all you like. The attitude of some of the people on these forums is in a word, terrible. Telling people to "PO" etc.

How long should we wait for a working product Matt? Another 6 months? These problems are not confined to Vista from what I've read. Its people like yourself who allow this shoddy development to continue. You'll defend these people to the grave no matter how bad the code is and you will blindly purchase anything they sell.

I like ArmA and I liked OFP before it, but the constant problems (supporting the 8800 properly for example) are irksome. The 8800 has been around for 8 months now and still people here are blaming it. Vista has been around for 6 months and the only problem I have with Vista is ArmA.

So I ask you, do you think the problem is a Flagship OS and the fastest performing GPU on the planet. Or is it possibly a company, who as talented as they may be, released a half finished product that we are paying to fix? Its a rhetorical question btw.

For crying out loud....what do you expect to find in a troubleshooting thread this massive, flowers and kisses?

Of course people are going to complain when their games don't work....and why do you care if we flame BIS?

Progress = status quo?

We,consumers, have every right to bitch untill the problems are solved.....and by solved I mean an official patch.

I will be first in line to applaude BIS when they do, but untill then I reserve my right to be pissed off.

The one thing that's probably as bad, or well close to it, as people yelling at the company and acting like it's a conspiracy is those who lash out at people who are having problems with the game and are frustrated, and act as though they are in the pockets of the company in question.

Seriously, if you don't like people bad mouthing the company, there's a better way to say it. Reminding people that their complaints are legitimate, but that they should focus their frustration onto the ones responcible (SecureRom) is better than saying 'It's your fault, GTFO and fix it yourself', when considering the myriad of people with different systems (I'm not running vista, and I have this patch problem) are having a problem, it sure as hell seems like it's not their fault.

Thank goodness BIS doesn't have people like you in their customer service. I imagine they might, but I hope you never get a job representing a company, for their sake.

I think vista and 8800 is a bad mix. Before the 108 patch I was having tons of problems but then i reverted back to xp and it solved many.

The 108 patch for me solved all problems and it added just 1, CTD.... I have solved this by putting texture on default and not ALT TABBING.

Ive found out by alt tabbing too much it will CTD. People with vista should think about creating a dual boot with xp. Its not hard and you can find tutorials on web.

You need to do a little tweaking to some boot files before u can choose which OS to boot to. There is actually a program that will do this for u.

Pm me if you would like help.

Problems I have seen so far.

1. Post effect lighting goes mad at certain times...using scopes, zooming in with weapons, spawning into another soldier when killed ect.
2. Contrast change has made the game look worse for me. Too dark now and changing the gamma/brightness makes the colours looked washed out and unrealistic. It was spot on in 1.5 for me with default settings.
3. AT soldiers are still firing at enemy infantry as much as before.
4. Soldiers/vehicles/building ect look further away and less detailed.
5. Fog distance seems worse.
6. AI still will not move over bridges. I dont know if BI intend to fix this but i can imagine a lot of mission makers avoiding making missions while this is still in the game.
7. I still hate the grass and would like the option to turn it off during MP coop. I run a server using my PC and it runs like crap because of the grass. With 1.5 I could load a mission that has been made without grass and from then on it would be off for all players but now this doesnt work.
8. Changing from driver in a empty tank to gunner causes the tank sometimes to turn in a anti clockwise direction.

Is there a bug thread or anywhere I can post these so BI will read them ? Will they be read on here by the dev's ?

And you think that makes much difference? I am so peed off with this.

I have removed daemon tools, deleted crap from registry and reinstalled Arma 104 (worked), 105 (worked), 108 (Wont %@%$ Load).

The patch installs fine so it seems but starting Arma just shows a spinning DVD.

It may be problems with SecureROM but it is BIS responsibility to make sure that everything workd before it goes out.

We test software that uses Oracle so going by what some folks are saying as long as my software works who cares about the other 3rd party components? so it is ok to release in a non working state. Best business idea in years.

Yes I use XP Pro.

i have 2 main problems

1. Increased lag with scopes and foileage but everyone seems to be getting that

2. Silly sky colours in early evening, at certain times the sky looks BRIGHT blue like its glowing, nothing snaps me out of the game more than turning round and seeing a flourescent blue/purple sky.
I had this in all three beta releases but figured it would be fixed for 1.08...is this a driver problem? (7600gt).

On another note anybody whining about performance under vista should re-read the system requirements. Im sick of hearing people moan on about vista compatability, not just for this game, in general. If you understand operating systems you know to stay away from new versions for 9-12 months, its ALWAYS the same story.

Saying "well application x runs fine so why doesnt application y" is just ignorant.

Sure, some problems.

There was an extended beta. The problems don't appear to be OS-specific (as they occur under XP as well).

Don't be dense. This isn't an OS thing, it's a QA thing.

Has anyone else noticed the M136 launcher often disappearing from their gear while out in the field? Perhaps after getting in and out of a vehicle? The ammo remains, just the launcher is gone.

I found maybe a workaround for now for the CTD. Basically if you have RivaTuner you can watch your vram inside game using the OSD. When mine gets around 500mb I set texture to very low then it goes down to 140mb. Then I can set it back to high again or default, but it will gradually raise every few seconds again. You have to repeat this every few min's or you will Crash. Seems it lowers if you even just change it from veryhigh to high it will dump some memory.. RivaTuner OSD works good ingame on xp. I dont think the RivaTuner OSD works in Vista though.

I used 1.05 when it's published and I had no problems. The game was stable and I can play with it nice and smoothly.

My hardware is:
P4 2.4, 1Gb RAM, Gef6600GT 128Mb

But when I intall the 1.08 patch the game was terrible:

1., The game became instable: sometimes crashed to the desktop
2., I fear to pressing the M button, because if I change to Map view the gamplay will be LAGGY: 15-20 sec frozen, 1-2 sec play, 15-20 sec frozen...etc
3., The models and textrures loaded very slowly! In 1.05 I had no problem with this. But in 1.08 sometimes I see only this. (http://lacko.pcdome.hu/ArmA/temp/arma108.avi)
4., The APC inner view also cause speed problems.

The patches are so big because they added and made changes to models and textures aswell.

Besides, we don't live in 1995; Stop whining about mezely 500mb downloads, before I blinked my eyes it's downloaded, and even on the current "standard" broadband connections of 256kbit etc. is still more than fast enough to get it within a reasonable time.

when I first time fired up 1.08, I got the same result that you've shown
in your vid and I did not change my gfx settings(from 1.05),
which were at 1920x1440x32 (medium/high settings ingame)

The blocky visuals did not recover(on their own), until after I reset gfx
to low res (800x600x32) everything else ingame on low and then
shutdown ArmA and restart.

After this gfx were normal and I set them up to former values,

With your gfx card, you will not get this 'Default' option though;..its
implemented for cards with 512MB and above vidRAM. Dont worry.

Also, with 1gig of RAM you're a little on the low side;..did
you increase your virtual RAM settings? (2-4GB)
Better yet is to add an additional gig of RAM.

I read something about the Cheat Button Shift + Minus. Not really sure on how to activate cheat-modus, but it might be a requirement before the button really works, I dunno?

Ah, some bg info: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_Cheats

Left shift + numpad minus works as cheat-opener by default. You then type the "cheat" code. Use "FLUSH" to force the game to reload the VRAM with currently used textures and objects.
Very visible with RivaTuner, you Flush and see VRAM drop to zero and back up again, with HDD working hard

Run through ALL ur firewall programs and make sure that the updated ArmA.exe signature is allowed in them, with full internet access. Though this usually starts creating problems after clicking on the MP icon, it might help you.
Well I dont have any firewall ATM. And the lockup occurs at the black loading screen, everything just freezes... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif

I have ARMA: Combat Operations North American version.
Downloaded the 1.06 to 1.08 update from Gamershell.

I have no extra addons except Evolution 1.5, which is really only a mission.

during the patching process i got the following errors:

Uuuuuch it just gets worse and worse doesn't it? Not only do I have CTD's which I never had before with 1.05 or 1.07, I now get some seizure-inducing HDR bug...

When it crashes to desktop, I sometimes get an error message saying: "Createindexbuffer failed ([some 880808080 number])"
- Any ideas?

But that HDR bug is terrible.. If I was epileptic, I'd be a dead man right about now. The screen will erupt into crazed white flashings if I so much as look at the sun at a certain angle.

Two screen taken during one of these seizure-inducing eruptions:

Well it seems to be fixed now after I did a driver clean-out and installed the official nvidia drivers (not that I think it was an issue with NGO drivers [the drivers I was using before], I just wanted to be safe)

Seems to be stable now, haven't had a CTD for a while, but the FPS is a lot worse than what it was when using NGO's drivers - the thing is I'm scared to test them out again! But no doubt I will today or tomorrow http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

When I play the single missions I get the 800700e error 10 out of 10 times...or the game just hangs while loading, can move the mouse in the pre-game menu, but can't click anything..hang up....what gives..

Well, definite FPS loss for me. Or at least, ArmA now pushes even more my system to its limit.
I get symptoms that remind me of 1.02, ie my HDD is working way more, and as soon as my CPU is a bit under stress (mainly managing AI and scripts), I get a heavy FPS loss in dense environnement.
Not counting that I had to get down in settings (view distance from 5km to 3km) compared to 1.07b.

I think "Default" setting for "Texture quality" is hurting on system with less than 512M VRAM (256 on my card), I got smoother results with a "Normal" setting I had before.

When I get the strong feeling that something is going very wrong and crash is imminent (in 1.08, symptoms are : HDD working, FPS <10), a "FLUSH" cheat helps and avoids the crash, it seems.

It seems to have improved since then.. Do you play Bezerk a lot by any chance mate? Cause since then ive had no dialog lag :S And it was only in a game of Bezerk: Airfield.

If you try a map on Ramadi is it better? It seems to be an issue relating to the amount of markers on the map.. Bezerk has loads of dynamic markers...

So.... I uninstalled ArmA, reinstalled ArmA and downloaded the ArmaCombatOperations_USRetailandDigitalDistributio n_v108_patch

Along with many other paying customers on your forums I to am suffering from the same problems of the latest patch release of v108 DVD edition 505 Games UK, running on a Windows XP system.

Why is it not working? completely failing to even start?

In one case flashing violently between black and white ? this is a serious health risk right now!

Are these issues being tackled? especially the one above?

When can we expect comment on these issues from the developers themselves?

When can we expect a solution?
Guess I'll join in the mass of 'this aint working' calls!!.

I would of course prefer to post an answer/ solution to all our probleems.

Updated all the drivers, tried all the tricks mentioned here and absolutly no joy for me with this 1.08 patch.

The software screws up so bad my whole systeem crashes.
Also the chest bug, but the fix for that is def. the remove 3rd addons. Now running a clean install and still not working

Strange, when u consider i played with absolute no problems with the 1.05.

And now the games seems to be completely screwed, well at least for me.

I would like to quote ANG3L because this is ridiclous and i agree with his questions towards BIS

I buy game software to have fun and enjoyment. I buy expensive pc hardware to run them. I dont pay to spend all my weekend fiddling about trying to get the stuff to work . Thats what developers are paid very well to do. So why has it apparantly failed miserably in this case?

So, I guess im back to 1.05 and wait for a patch that does work.

i've run some directx9 HDR shader tests to compare directx9 performance under both vista and xp....the differences are huge with xp outperforming vista by 40-50% in framerates.

You can easily test this yourself by downloading and running the program below under vista and xp and compare the FPS:

maybe should answer many of the performance issues with arma and vista...is it video card drivers ?? or is it directx9 emulation in directx10 ??

How come there is no official statements regarding the vast amount of problem people are having with their program. If they are on vacation I hope the weather is pissing down on them.

They are definitely not on vacation, and even if the entire Staff would be: Who says they are not allowed to have some days off just because the game doesn't run on your shiny Vista?

There are dozens of topics here covering the problems ArmA has with Vista and the GF8800 series. Just a suggestion: Try it with the OS it was developed for? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Now that I've played for a few days with the 1.08 patch, I CAN say it works on my "shiny" Vista 64 Ultimate and a 8800gtx. I'm not able to use sli w/Arma yet (distorts over long missions), but it's getting better as drivers and game patches are released.
I do use -maxmem=512 in the shortcut or ctd's will occur w/normal-high settings.(158.24 whql drivers are in use)
I got the ArmA stopped responding, ArmA has encountered a problem, with other drivers I tested but not with 158.24whql.

Even OFP plays perfectly w/Vista without having to tamper w/shortcut.

My computer is running a lot more louder, so the fans have to kick in a lot more, meaning that the processor/video card is running a lot more, to generate ghe same visual output. @Julian: You already posted that here (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=64;t=64095;st=225), and I answered you. You only need to post something once. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif

this patch has made my game run smoother but also made it crash constantly with "arma has encountered a problem and needs to close" message.

this happens on all graphics levels and my computer is brand new.

It is because one of your addons don't apply for 1.08 and is causing this bug.

Remove all custom addons and see if it works. To identify the "broken" addons, you add them one by one, start the game, see if it still working, add a new one, etc..

Keep them, it is the signature that prove this addon has been signed by the BIS software. For now only the original BIS file are signed. In the future (when the software will be released), lots of addon would have access to this signed file.

If i am not too stupid, it's to avoid hack/cheat in .pbo files. If the server is well configurated he will check the sign files.

Heyas, I've been having some trouble with 1.08..

Scenario:

8800 GTS 320 meg (Gigabyte)
Running nvidia official 158.22 drivers (installed today to be sure)
Windows XP Sp2 (pro)
AMD64 3000+ Venice
Nforce 4 mobo
2 gig of DDR400
SATA 2 harddrives x 2
Audigy 4 PCI sound card

loaded boot camp map to screw around.
Flew the AH-1Z for a while, came back to the airbase and on approach noticed that the runway and buildings were not textured.
Tried to get the shift + = vram clear to work, but it didnt.
Shortly afterwards ARMA CTD'd where my Visual Studio Just-in-time debugger intercepted. Of course, I dont have pdb files so I couldnt give you anything meaningful about the crash eg. stack would have been useless without symbols.

I couldnt find the 'default' option for textures- is there a config file entry I need to make? or does it not exist for 320 meg cards?

This issue was happening on 1.07 as well- thought 1.08 would fix it. I was wrong.
I'm having the exact same problems. Textures seem to flicker rapidly or just disappear, this lowers frames per second to almost zero at times.

Running 8800GTS 640MB
Windows XP

I've had no issues at all with 1.6 (US DVD install). After installing the 1.08 patch, I get serious issues. The game loads and plays perfectly fine. But after joining a multiplayer game and then trying to exit, it locks up my system. It sits there with the game screen still up, but it won't exit. I tried using task manager via ctrl+alt+delete, but the process will not end-task. I end task about a dozen times, but nothing happens. The only way to fix it is to hit the reset button on my tower. This never happened until I installed 1.08.

My multiplayer (and ONLY multiplayer) crash (read above) did not happen with 1.06 (US DVD install) nor did it happen with the 1.07 beta patch. Both of those worked flawlessy online.
1.08 will crash EVERY SINGLE time I exit multiplayer. If I'm on a server and click disconnect, it will crash. If I hit multiplayer in the menu then hit exit, it crashes.
And it doesn't just crash. It just sits there, like it's locking up the renderer or something. Trying to end process on it (in the task bar) does not work. It just sits there. Doesn't use any CPU resources or anything. It just locks up the system. I have to reboot the entire machine to get rid of it.

PLEASE help. This is ridiculous.

get 15-25 fps in cities 25 and upwards in desert.

My crash issue seems to be related to my sound card. I tried disabling hardware sound in-game and I got a blue-screen-of-death (BSOD) crash. Rebooted, then edited my preferences file so that the game would start up with hardware turned off. Same thing - as soon as the game started to load, I got a BSOD crash.

Remember - this crash did NOT HAPPEN with 1.06 or 1.07beta. This has only started happening with 1.08. Because of this, I cannot play online at all. I can play single player just fine, using hardware sound. But when I exit multiplayer, the game crashes my PC. I'll assume it has something to do with VOIP, or some other audio "tweak" that was made. So basically, I cannot play multiplayer whatsoever right now, which is pissing me off (excuse language).

Please help me.2 Possibilities AFAIK;
1) you have overclocked ur system too far, it gets overheated in another way, or you have faulty hardware (Which does not get always easily apparant under normal operation, but especially at patch operations etc. it could be a problem)

2) some original files are overwritten, make sure you always use modfolders when using addons aswell as make sure you backup files if you would replace original ArmA files. The solution would be to uninstall arma, delete your arma folder, reinstall arma, install patch 1.05, install patch 1.08.

Goodluck

Please try to use an older version of the OpenAL32.dll as located here: http://www.6thsense.eu/tmp/OpenAL32.rar

Your OpenAL32.dll should be located in your Windows\system32 folder. Please backup your current OpenAL32.dll then overwrite the file with the one in the RAR file above. Try playing ArmA and see if there is any difference.

When you get the blue screen, please note the exact bluescreen, possibly note the dll that is causing it IF it's reported.

Just decompress pbo-s that you have errors from your DVD to addons directory where ARMA is installed before patching.Use winrar it's more reliable than others.
Also Patching is performed partially in system memory so if you are insufficient you will get errors for sure.
Give us feedback.

Quote[/b] ]Just decompress pbo-s that you have errors from your DVD to addons directory where ARMA is installed before patching.Use winrar it's more reliable than others.

This solution will work *only*, if you patch up to 1.05, but will
not work if you are patching from 1.05 > 1.08.

Reason beeing, 1.08 is dependant on *already* patched to 1.05
.pbo files (see readme of 1.08) and if you just copy back
1.00 ~ 1.04 files, you will see .pbo errors as well.
(assumed content[1.05] does not match; you will see the same
error codes as if the files were corrupt)

So, the best way would be to patch up to 1.05 (Euro only)
and once this project finishes *errorfree* > do an complete
backup of ArmA folder 1.05.

From *this* folder, copy back any already patched 1.05 .pbo files,
if something goes wrong with 1.08 patching.
---
Edit: I just remembered, there are 'bi.bisign' (?) files for each
.pbo files (i.e.: ui.pbo.bi.bisign)
I am not sure, if those are patched as well [I assume] so it
is best to always copy *both* files back; i.e.
ui.pbo and ui.pbo.bi.bisign
---

Apart from that, test your system, if it can operate 'bytecorrect'
at all;...just create some really large archive files
(Winrar, ect. 200-300MB each) and then *Winsfv* those archives;..
copy over to other drive/folder and again, check via Winsfv, if copied files are still valid.
Of course, there are some other ways to make sure of
valid, non-corruptive operation of your PC.
ArmAs patching process just points out underlying weaknesses,
thats all.

Hey guys,

I didn´t read all the posts, too long and I am short on time.
Here is my error:

After patching from 1.05 to 1.08 Arma doesn´t start. It crashes even BEFORE the DVD is spinning for checking my copy protection. Dr. Watson comes up and thats all.

With 1.05 all ran fine, but a little slow. So hopefully 1.08 would increase performance a bit, like it was on my second machine. This one was tuned a little by updating from 1.05 to 1.08, where it now runs ~1/3 faster).

Here are my specs:

Intel P4,
2800MHz,
2x256 MB RAM,
ATi Radeon 9800 pro 256 MB,
MSI 6566 E Max Mainboard,
Soundblaster 16 PCi
Windows 2000 SP4
4GB free space on HDD (pagefile.sys is fix with 512 MB).

greetings
TOViper

Umm, anyone had this problem?

When I enter a plane or a helicopter and take off, it constantly keeps turning right.. Joystick cant be the problem, it works fine in other games and it worked fine before 1.08 patch.. It really pis*es me off because I cant fly anything now o,o I tried configuring flight options in ArmA.. still does it.. and planes/heli's worked fine before...

PC:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
2.21 GHz
1024MB RAM
GeForce 7600GT @ 256MB VRAM

ArmA Czech DVD version 1.08

1.08 patch should be called 1.08 destroyer, really. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/icon_rolleyes.gif

try unbind and rebind all flight controls

i had the "CreateIndexBuffer failed (8876017c)" problem, and tried everything posted here and nothing helped
i then went to bios and started switching around everything to do with the videocard
i upped the agp aperture to 512
now the game works with no crash yet, with no -maxmem switch

1.05 works fine (i have euro version). As soon as i patched to 1.08 the game would crash about a minute after loading. Tried fresh re-installs, tried uninstalling, defragging and then reinstalling, all without any luck.
Specs ae as follows:

P4 2.8 GHz, 1.5 gigs of ram, ATI Radeon X800XT 256meg gfx card, soundblaster live 5.1 sound card and still have plenty of hard disk space left after install.
Any ideas?

Rip out all the ATI driver and ACE stuff. then reinstall the latest(7.6). Use Windows AddRemove programs, the CCC first then the Display driver, DONT Reboot yet, Go tothe ATi folders on your comp and delete them (defrag if you can) then reboot. Dont let Windows install or look for any thing, cancel the wizards, Now click on the 7.6.exe or whatever driver you will use.

Got this game a few days ago it has been h*ll ever since. I cant get the AA stay off I save it under settings but when game crashes AA comes back on. I am running Windows Vista Premium with an 8800 GTS worst of both words for this game according to the forums. I am running the default Atari version cause I am unable to install the latest patch cause It keeps coming up with the error message A10.pbo cannot be found. I click continue and it crashes. I too am getting missing textures, corrupted textures and some fog. I crash to desktop every 1/2 hour but no error messages. Any one have any ideas? Help someone please..... I am about ready to throw the dvd out a window http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/help.gif

That is normal behaviour of ArmA(settings change>crash>settings lost). Once you change some gfx settings, its best practice to just exit ArmA, because it only
save your changes, when its shutdown correctly. (You can also make
manual changes to the config files outside ArmA)

You should run the install with Administrator rights and also
later run ArmA with said permissions.
Once installed(run it once to ensure proper install), you should check your..\ArmA\addons\ folder, if the file is there before patching to 1.08. If it is not, you can try to copy it over from the DVD. Then, make an copy of the complete ArmA folder in case something goes wrong while patching to 1.08. If errors, you can easily delete the botched install and copy back this folder. No need to delete your ArmA profile which is stored separately.

Since you got some incomplete install, I think its normal to
crash from this reason alone. Texture problems and crashing
can be mostly remedied by 'good' drivers, lowered settings
and startup parameters for ArmA like maxmem=512 for example.
Remember, ArmA is not officially supported with Vista at this point.

Vista32
Forceware 160.03

Performance is MUCH worse in patch 1.08 compared with previous patch... stutters alot and fps falls to around 15 near large city.
Got settings on default for texture, everything else on normal and VD 1200.
Havnt got a crash but game is simply unplayable http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif

sorry to be OT,
The only way an intel is faster, is if you overclock...which intel prefers you to do, so your warranty is voided.

Hi guys, I'm new to the game and forums here. ***I bought Arma: Combat Operation 2 days ago. ***I installed the patch 1.08, and it seemed fine for a bit. ***Then I decided to do the tutorials. ***Everything goes fine until the helicopter training. ***I fly from checkpoint to checkpoint just fine, hover for 15 seconds, and then I gotta pick up a few soldiers. ***On my way there, the graphics get all funky. ***Ground textures turn all gray/white, they start to flicker, it looks like a bunch of artifacts like when you overclock way too far. ***Nothing in my computer is overclocked. ***After a little bit of that flickering and stuff, I get kicked to the desktop and get an error. ***Don't remember it exactly, but it says something DX5 and first time it had 1024 x 1024 in the error, and second time it had 2048 x 2048. ***7008000e or something like that. ***I click OK, and start the game, and the exact same thing happens again, at the same time. ***Any suggestions? ***My computer stats: ***AMD Opteron 165 1.8 x 2, OCZ 3200 2GB (4x512mb) dual channel, nVidia 7900 GTO 512mb video card. ***The game runs nice and smooth, and looks good until this happens. ***I haven't had the error online, or in any missions, but I haven't played much yet. ***What do I do? ***P.S. ***Sorry for the long first post. ***http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif

tried it. Don't work. Tried upping up the arpeture settings too, still no work. Tried the hotfix, not working, still crashing with occasional createbufferindex error. Set custom settings to virtual memory (set it to like 3 or 4 gigs) still not working, still get the crash. I even flush every now and then and still no joy.
This game is uselsss. Why is BIS releasing new crap if they can't even fix this joke they call a game?

Anyone have any more ideas?

I think I have 1.08. My version says 1.08.5163

I have the German DVD. My problem involves crosshairs and night vision goggles. They apear very zoomed in. Gone is the round shape in cross hairs and the NVs have a blury stuff in front. I can see some but its clearly wrong.

I'm going to change my resolution setting and see if thats a fix. Tried a few other things and it did nothing. Any answers? Thanks in advance. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif

yep, it's on 60Hz, newest drivers too. Trying the latest ones too. Tried everything barring a reformat. I think if worst comes to worst I might just send BI the bill for a new PC http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Exact same problem here man, replacing the OpenAL32.dll however did NOT do the trick for me. I am unable to play multiplayer STILL!

My friends have no problems playing... its so weird.
