View Full Version : New Racs - Lite Version
From the Read Me:
This addon is a Lite version of a major pack being made, that's why I'm using three .pbo files instead of just one, this way I can easily update them later.
It's not perfect but it will certenaly be improved later, it's just a small demonstration (asked by the community) of what is still to come which will include many Soldiers, vehicles, weapons, High-Dispersion Weapons/Magazines for better firefights and some other things still being worked out, the idea is making the Racs and East sides stonger so we can balance our game a bit.

Very cool. Hope to see more. Do you plan on having the latest night vision equipment for your soldiers also? I have never seen PVS-22 in the computer gaming world even though it is the hottest thing for snipers in the US military now. All the night vision that you see in OFP or Arma is PVS-7 (that is being slowly removed from service now). What about AN/PAQ2 laser aiming systems? Do you have plans for those in your weapon's pack.

Best units I've seen since the Nogovan pack, can't wait for the "heavy" version.
Some optics and vehicles would be great too, RACs doesn't have any tanks!
Granted, landrovers are durable, but even a against a tracked incendiary device like the T72, I wouldn't recommend them.

M60A3 would fit RACS perfectly, maybe an M551 Sheridan also.

Yes, over 15 countries use/used the Centurion tank.
Racs also could have this tank in use but modified to their needs. (extra armor, improved turret, etc.)

DarkGiver as already done some very nice Mp5s on his Swiss Pack and Neph's AKs are probably getting finished and will be the best Aks this game will ever see as for the Famas, well, it's a French Weapon you checked the French MOD team? They will release some nice ones and I don't think anyone can make a better Famas than a French addon maker, however...

Its not that you cant snipe with it...its just that (IMO) it should have a scope. Having a scope doesnt make it a G36K.

I think that Winchester model 70 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winchester_Model_70) may be suitable for RACS. Or you could just stick a scope to the M14. I think the rifle got it's own designation then (starting with X).

Also some soldiers may carry outdated M16A1's, that have been widely exported.
Skaven, the mod is fantastic mate - I love it! But I've noticed that AI with the M60 don't engage -
I ran a test in the editor with youir troops and the G3 and M14 soldiers will engage, but the M60 guys just stand there without firing and are cut down by the SLA troops...
Can you help please mate?

Stewy I would like to help you but I feel like this is just you having that problem, you sure you placed my 3 .pbo files inside the correct folder? You must have something external causing that, what addons do you have in your folder besides mine?
btw, maybe some new ingame and editor pictures so we can easlily define who is who? Just an idea.

Yes I agree, outdated M16A1 would fit he RACS. Also instead of the AT4 the LAW would fit the RACS better.
Trucks for the RACS would be Unimogs. Those are small not very expensive and very powerful.
you know one thing that bugs me about this mod, the weapons feel arcade compared to Arma defaults. especially the m60 - hell you can shoot that thing very controlled standing up. great looks but not for me because of this.

If I put the enemy at about 70m when I start the mission, then the AI gunner will fire at him.
But at about 200 metres, the gunner does nothing...

Well, those are my custom recoils, you know recoils are just like the sounds or you love them or you hate them, perssonaly I don't like BIS's recoils much specially not the East side ones but than probably BIS doesn't like mine either so http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif
You can however fix the recoils yourself it's pretty easy to make custom ones. Inside the JAm.pbo file you have this class:
class CfgRecoils
Play with the numbers below that line until you find out your type of recoil and than use it it all your future addons http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

I will check this very carefully but, in my game in Tpm's game in the beta tester's games it works pretty well mate that's why I really don't know how I can help you, what custom addons are you using besides mine?

Well I like the addons actually but they seem very unbalanced versus default BIS units (maybe because of AI engagement rages from the weapon configs? dunno... they just mow down all opfor with ease and minimal to none casualties on some distance.
Also I don't like the recoil. Weapons like the M60 and the G3 should "kick" more... but well. I can't have everything.
Nice addons anyway.

Don't think so mate, this addon should work well in any release, and I think most of us are using 1.07 like you.
I'm preparing a surprise for you guys, I wasn't going to do it since it goes against my philosophy on this addon but, I got too many requests so... let's just say for now that it's a second team of Racs with a little better equipment, close to BIS Racs weapons. The unit and I were wishing we had M14's the other night. And then we see this! Excellent! Only thing is that in the screen shot he looks like he is holding it by an imaginary pistol grip. Can someone post a screen shot of him from his right side? Is he holding it properly?
He's holding the M14 as well as the game allows, otherwise he'll stay with his right hand finger out of the trigger since we can't edit the way the soldier holds the weapon http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif
btw, soon I will release a version 2 of my Racs, with all bugs mentioned fixed, and lots of things improved like Custom Recoils, Accuracy, Ai Rate of Fire, Bullet Speed, Bullet Hit Points, Editor Pictures, shadows and many other things.

Last but not the least, new Impact Sounds for all the weapons and I made my first ARMA High Dispersion weapons for East and Racs side, not for all of the weapons but for some since this will arguably open a big debate, some will like it some will not nevertheless I will change things according to the majority's feedback as always.

Yes mate, I did try it as well as I normally put them in a line and I put some unarmed enemys at different distances to check how the attack the enemy, I'm pretty sure one of your addons may be causing problems because of bad code, try removing all of your addons and see if the same happens.

Hi, i've try this weapons and units and this is what i've seen; the
G3 aim point, is too slim and straight, it should be a bit conical; the
M14 upper side (that one with 16 marks, M144.paa) should have
just 6 marks (4 in the case of a M1A SOCOM 14") the muzzle flash
should have "3 arms" instead of two lateral ones (like an AK74), you
can see the "bidimensionality" of the vertical flame of the muzzle flash
in the M14 and i think that in the G3 too.
The units look very well done, in case of do some SF units... i'll give
'em some MITCH TCH2000 in OD green and a woodland vest, also
maybe a woodland BDU or who knows... a british woodland DPM
BDU may be pimp too. But anyway... the units and weapons look

Now I'm making custom recoils closer to BIS values since the majority complains that it's too easy to shhot as they are now.
I hope to release Vr2 on Saturday as promised as long as BIS release 1.08 before of course.

A small update on what will be inside Version 2:

- 4 New weapons, 2 Fn-Fal (one with iron sights other with a sniper scope) an HK-Ump and a Walther 9mm Mpk (used as a pistol), 5th weapon still being worked.
- New Muzzle Flashes for all the weapons, exactly as BIS ones (in my opinion pretty amazing as you will see in the picture below).
- Reworked sounds.
- Improved animations.
- Better Guear Pictures (weapons and magazines).
- New Editor pictures (gives a cool look to the units in the editor and makes it easier to identify who is who, at least better than having green/red triangles all over the place).
- Reworked config file to make this weapons behave just like BIS ones, values like dispersion, rate of fire, range on fire, hit values and speed of the bullet travel have all been reworked
- New recoils (very close to BIS values).
- First approach to High Dispersion weapons, only East and Racs for now since this will in my opinion need to be changed many times, it will be very hard to make everybody happy, so I will do this slowly with your help and according to your feedback (this is why the Ska_Jam is a different .pbo file and is also very small in size, it will be very easy to make regular updates at a very small cost (2MBytes) and without compromising anything, I count on your help for this one).
- New impact sounds for all the bullets both my weapons and High-Dispersion ones.
- Better iron sights.
- Improved some textures.
- Improved shadows, however not perfect yet, I need a modeler to help me, any takers?
- Improved normal mapping.
- All bugs mentioned so far, fixed.
- 85% of the suggestions have been taken into consideration and will be presented in Vr2.

Yes the base it's that one, I'm not sure but I think it was also used in BAS's Tonal Addon. From the picture you posted above I changed the colors and resized it a bit to make it blend better in ARMA than I gave it a Penta filter to give some density I applied some sharpen effects to make it look more alive and I've darkened the yellow a little bit so I could give the green some extra light, I think it looks pretty good in Arma and allows the Racs to have Team 1 with a Desert cammo and Team 2 with a more Jungle/Woodland http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

I know what you mean, the majority of the Fals have 3 smaller holes, however there is also a version with two holes like this ones, it's a version made closer to the British version (L1A1 SLR)

Well, actually and according to my information the UMP is cheaper than the MP5 and we already have BIS's MP5s as well as the Swiss pack ones, but as I said above, in Version 3 maybe.
As for the Thompson it's a good idea, together with an M1 Garand I could give them something older, I'll think about it, ty for the suggestion.

The M1 Garand was actually for something that came to my mind from Kasrkin85th's suggestion which would be to make some WW2 mercs (in a different pack of course) but it's obvious that I would never ever mix the weapons I made so far with the M1 not even with the Thompson http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif All my weapons cover a small period of time that goes more or less between 1975-1995 (20 years) and my Racs are not to be a top army like the US they are like BIS's Racs but with more alternatives, as I said before I'm trying to balance the game a little bit that's why after the Racs I will make the Russian Army. Ah, yes, one other thing - you say you've used some of SLX's work, which I have seen and loved, especially the removal of the Anaconda's mag, but I was curious, did you experiment with that certain value (it was mentioned somewhere in SLX's weapon demo thread) that makes the magazine "drop" (when reloading) and seem to sit in the bloke's hand for a bit longer than usual? I'll see if I can't drag it up.

About the Anaconda, I was actually hoping for someone to mention it, you noticed that the barrel isn't moving while shooting? That's because I am close to be able to make something different which is to make the barrel go sideways while reloading and than go back to the weapon after it, however making the barrel move at each shot and accomplish the reloading animation in the same model is driving me nuts.
One other thing, I changed the 1st view of the Anaconda as well as the Walther making both 1.2 bigger, somehow it seems that Hand Guns in the first view get smaller, using this method makes them closer to the real thing I think.

As for a 5.56mm assault rifle I'd suggest this:
Heckler&Koch HK 33 and HK 53 (http://world.guns.ru/assault/as13-e.htm)
I guess they were quite popular during '60s and '70s among many "soldiers of fortune".
Maybe your Racs could use a 5.56mm light machinegun (or automatic rifle as you will).
Probably Minimis would be too expensive, but maybe older versions would fit.
You could also consider Heckler und Koch HK 23 (http://world.guns.ru/machine/mg18-e.htm) or CIS Ultimax 100 (http://world.guns.ru/machine/mg20-e.htm).
As for GPMG, the pig is ok, but it has very serious reliability issues, which unfortunately aren't simulated in ArmA, so why not include an FN MAG in older version or an MG3.

On a side note, I've been spending many hours trying to improve the quality instead of quantity and I was able to make some nice things, for example the way the AI fires this weapons. Playing with the AIRateofFire value I managed to make them fire in a more distinct and realistic way the AI doesn't waste ammunitions on distinct targets in this cases he fires slowly with some space between shots , I think it looks pretty nice and realistic, the recoils are now very close to BIS values to make this weapons close to the original ones and the shadows have new models with a lot less polys which should make the game a lot smoother without compromising the quality of the shadows that in my opinion are now very close to perfection.

My first shadows were a mess compared to the new ones and there are some tutorials available in this forum, one of them is inside the normal mapping tutorial thread, however I'll wright you a fast one now.
1 - Open a 10000 distance view LOD (note it's 10000 not 10.000)
2 - Make the model to use as a shadow inside the 10000 LOD (don't use my first weapons as an example, use the version to be released instead since I used a lot of polys/faces in the beginning, the amount of polys should be like 200/300 polys tops, of course the fewer the better ).
PS: Don't forget to delete the textures applied on the Shadows model since it's all black you don't need it mapped.
3 - Open a property inside your 10000 Lod and call it Lodnoshadow the value is 0
4 - Open the same property (Lodnoshadow) in all the other Lods but this time give it a value of 1.
5 - Inside the Shadow Lod (10000) with the entire model selected go to Structure/Topology/Find non-Closed and check if you have any opened point/faces (they get red if you do and below on your left O2 tells you the amount of them).
6 - If you do have any opened points/faces you must close them, you may try O2 to close them for you, for that go to Structure/Topology/Close, this should close the model for you, however, sometimes you need to do it by hand since this feature inside O2 as some limitations.
PS: Be sure that all points/faces are closed, the best way to know this is by doing the step I wrote you before Structure/Topology/Find non-Closed and see if it gives you 0/0 on the left part below, if you miss this than not only the shadows won't work as most of the times the game will crash while loading the model.
7 - Finnaly with all points/faces closed, select the entire model and go to Structure/Triangulate \ .

Maybe your Racs could use a 5.56mm light machinegun (or automatic rifle as you will).
Probably Minimis would be too expensive, but maybe older versions would fit.

- A second team of Racs\Mercs using a Jungle/Woodland cammo (Team 2) you find them in the Independet side under the Merc Soldiers class, you can also use F2 inside the editor and choose them as a group.
- 7 new weapons, 2 Fn-Fal (iron sights and sniper scope), HK-Ump, Walther 9mm MPL (used as a pistol), M16A4, M16A4-M203 and an HK-23e making now a total of 12 weapons.
- First approach to High Dispersion weapons/magazines, only East and Racs for now since this will in my opinion need to be changed many times, it will be very hard to make everybody happy, so I will do this slowly with your help (according to your feedback), you find them in the Editor inside the HD Soldiers class, now we have an option to Super AI firing as well as the possibility to have larger firefights. A nice addition to our missions specially if mixed with normal soldiers using different skill levels.
- Muzzle Flashes for all the weapons, check them firing at night.
- Recoils (very close to BIS values).
- Miner and Sniper model added.
- Map pictures (gives a nice look to the units in the editor and makes it easier to identify who is who ex:soldier, machine gunner, miner, AT ...).
- New impact sounds for all the bullets, both my weapons and High-Dispersion.
- Shadows have been 100% changed by new models, less polys and better quality (smoother gameplay).
- AI long distance firing, now the AI should fire slowly at long distances instead of just wasting ammo.
- AI firing logic, AI should fire a lot better now between the Short/Medium/Long distances and also select between the firing modes Single/Burst/Auto better.
Improved:

- Animations.
- Guear Pictures (weapons and magazines).
- Reworked config file to make this weapons behave close to BIS ones, values like dispersion, rate of fire, range on fire, hit values and speed of the bullet travel have all been reworked.

- Normal Mapping.
- Soldiers behaviour in accuracy and camouflage.

i've got a request however, right now you've only made a small group with the new camo. can you please also retexture the remaining RACS units? that's mainly the Officer and Royal Comandos.
In that case we could use your team one textures (they look bloody good!http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif as total replacement for the vanila bis RACS (i really dislike those textures' look)
btw, with a Hensoldt scope the HK21 would give a nice sniper weapon.

(edit: hmm, dit not see thet 1.08 is out already, gonna try it out to see if the game is better now, hope so)
Perhaps weapon-sounds could be improved a bit in the future, but for the rest I'm in love with this addon. And I totaly love the camouflage. Isen't that desert camouflage egyptian?

About the camouflage, yes the base was Egyptian but I change it a little bit to make it blend better in game, the sounds have been changed for some of the weapons.

I spent many hours fixing little things, improving here and there and I've been beta testing Version 2 extensively. One thing that I improved a lot was the accuracy of the weapons, they are now really accurate (just like BIS ones).
On a side note, the initspeed of the Uzi, Walther and UMP is like 50% of the assault rifles (again like BIS and like reality) so it means that this weapons are not supposed to be accurate on large distances so please don't send me emails saying that you can't hit an enemy soldier at 300 meters with the Uzi as someone did already http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Wich russian camo you do? KLMK camo too (the camo in your signature)?
Is there a way to replace the original RACS with those? I know there are replacement packs for BLUFOR/SF and OPFOR. Or are your new units equipped with stuff not compatible? They simply look great !
