Unfortunately our good friend and talented community member "Deanosbeano" left the forum some time ago. However i am posting this on behalf of him and everyone else.

Deanosbeano and solus have been hard at work once again, and have managed to actually put custom islands into our beloved ArmA. Not only that, they are fully textured to some extent. (pending tools)

For those who said its impossible i post here today, correcting such comments, and i hope everyone with the same commitment and enthusiasm will also hack this pbo to pieces and get cracking on their own islands.

I am very proud to of been a part of this project and a huge huge huge thanks to all those involved which are...

A casual reminder

The work here is all WIP and is at beta stage still, it will be down to the mission makers and a editor upgrade to bring life to the island as in any mission you play.

i just want to stress out the fact of running the custom islands with the beta. If not it will most likely give you a CTD.

Not tried with afghanistan but malden gave ctd if not used with the beta patch.

Now, its not much but really good work with afghanistan. Hopefully the community will soon have some tools that can speed up the process.

Yep i tested both with 1.05 and 1.07Beta, It was only working with the betapatch, with 1.05 i had an ctd.

Those "strechings" in the SE, S and SW could be used as firing ranges very well.

Hi guys would really love to try this good looking map, but am unable to as it keeps on crashing me to the desktop, with that do you want to send error crap lol.
Ive tried making it its own mod & also droping it in to my add-ons folder & still does it, am i doing some thing wrong & if so can some one help.... yours BOSS.......:)

yes 2 ctd&#39;s here with 505 version running the beta 1.07

crashed after 30 secs too 1min while flying the planes a10,av8
didn&#39;t ctd when i was flying a LB but might have been lucky.

To me, setting Terrain detail to anything below normal gave me decreased preformance and loss of textures on distant landscapes.

Super sweet&#33; So is anyone going to start working on a BOA (Bases over Afghanistan) map with roads and stuff?

PS: How do u make roads and buildings again???

Do u need the G85 Editor Update??

Edit: O god, good luck gettin any buildings on map... it seems like every other 1 with the g85 up crashes the game

wow this is amazing so much fun for just spawning platoons of tanks and having battles. 1.06 US version works without CTD

Thanks for the bug reports.

We are not really sure what the problem is, but it seems that using 1.07beta with NO mods, seems to work.

On the other hand try putting it in your addons folder as a standalone addon.

Also due to the size and the "Bodged job" (as it where) there could be many reasons.

Try lowering your terrain detail, or raising it, also try changing your texture detail.

But keep the reports coming, im sure we will figure it out.

Yea that map is bloody sweet very nice, just need some buildings & some roads & a few missions to go with it lol.

Nice job maybe very well done indeed,also a black hawk down map next would be sweet as well, or even a jungle one would also be wicked,like maybe convert the small map in to a thick tropical forest.

Hey guys,

THANKS for this,i havnt tried it yet but im goin to tonite cant wait,Im glad you can all work together on such projects thats what sets the ARMA&#92;OFP community apart from any other,as i come from the gtr2 community and more or less everyone is always at each others throats,apart from a few people who actually know the score.

i found something you need to fix...

I got in a Humvee and i went down a hill with no bumps and all of a sudden i died?

you need to change damage controls or something.. becuase i cant drive a humvee without dieing.

i have a video which i will upload soon that shows what i mean. and the motorcycle is okay because it cant really balance itself in hills.



anyway i love the map&#33;&#33; I have been waiting for a Lebanon map even more but Afghanistan is still awesome. I hope you can make HUGE city&#39;s. Can you use the buildings in vbs1. Not thus army pack buildings of course. I hope you will add new units and some Taliban units. The units in arma need to have more of a baggy messy look on their uniforms for example

Update&#33;

Change log

1.) Re-Tagged to DBO_afghan
2.) Removed stretching
3.) Removed bad texture -ID
4.) Added small city to new Kabul lite area
5.) 1.07 .rpt = 0 faults
6.) Grid meter changed to 50m cell

The city is only proof of concept so that people can use wrp to see how the heights need to be changed or edited when placing objects as the p3ds files are not in odol format (yet)

For those who have made some missions, we regret to inform that due to the change in the grid size any previous placed units will be altered in position because the hills are now less spiky


Also remove the @<hidden> folder, and put the new folder in the updated rar.

The city isn&#39;t representing anything, its just for mission makers to use as a template for editor placed objects for heights.

i know iwas just sayin.. how are you going to make your buildings?? from vbs1 or from ofp mods or from the TCW objects? TCW objects wont fit into an Afghanistan style map of course

or are you going to make it from scratch?? and can you give us a unofficial release date? and are you going to include extras like desert car and armor?? And can you fix the car going down the mountain thing?

Just placed 5 groups of infantry, 100 apiece, compact column. Placed all sorts of hardware: helos, tanks, trucks... and we got a convoy.. Very nice. Had tanks and trucks and helos in a reasonable column. (just tied the helos to the convoy groups) Then had another force attack it. Unbelievable carnage&#33; BIS, this game will bury, I say again, BURY all other games by advertizing it&#39;s LARGE battles. I know this terrain has few features and cities, but the scale of it is amazing. Nice job DeanosBeanos and BIS. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif

Anyway, the town could use a more irregular and asymmetrical look to it, like this:

it doesnt matter as long as their is an big city with afganistan buldings i am fine.

I was running version 1.07+ and game crash to desk top after some minuts of flying arround. i increased view distance to 4000m and after a while game CTD.

of course the island need to be worked out.. i wish good inspirations to it.

i see a great idea here with this pic and a city of ruins could make for some good infantry battles. we need the tools in order for the guy to make a complete island, but i like this guys idea of adding these ruined buildings and i think it would be cool if it would be included within an update. the buildings just need to be properly spaced and more buildings may need to be added.

Why waiting the tool ?

With Wrptool we are able to place object in the map. As you can see here I succeed in importing my one (unrealesed) afgan objects.

All work (lod, geo lod, roadway... and it work much more better than in OFP &#33; ).

How does it work ?

Its very simple.

-Create your one object with Oxygen. Dont make any Config

-Depbo the DBO afgan island. Then open the wrp with Wrptool.

-Binarize your .pbo and use that binarized pbo in Wrptool (you are able to place with precision your object because its binarised &#33; ).

-Save the .wrp and make again the DBO afgan island pbo.

-Then place your normal pbo (not binarized &#33; ) into your Arma Beta addon folder.

It&#39;s 100% functionnal &#33;

Now what i am looking for is a way to binarize the Arma official objects... It seem that they are crypted or something like that. Im also looking for old ofp addons that could be used freely to make them Ok for the new afgan island... And i also create new afgan objects... If somebody want to help me... Hey guys,
This is a nice proof of concept but are you planning on taking this further to a proper release? I mean only one texture looks really ugly. Can you actually port over islands from OFP now? Does ArmA handle the OFP texture system?

Whats that wrptool about or w/e.
That 1 guy( im sorry, i forget his name) was using it for his Afghani Objects. I bet if youd use that, it would be alot easier.

But in the mean time, i am TRYING to make a City/town thing in the Afghanitsan Island. =)

I downloaded the original map, then installed the files in the addons dir, but i can&#39;t see it in the island selection in the editor.

I&#39;m running 1.05 Eng version.

Please help.

this ist the last time i answer on such a question islands are working since the 1.07 patch and not with the 1.05 understand that now.

i think he worked on it some more but i cant find this version , i have 1.02 has he released this version in the video anyone have a link ?

It does look more rocky and nice sand but wrong colour of rocks i think.
btw the video you linked is the same island they showed for game2 in czech tv last year, looks like grand canyon .
