Nice one http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Are these the ones that in OFP had US & UK camo? I know you're working on the UK I'm just trying to find out if they're the same ones I have for OFP. The US camo was slightly desaturated compared to the UK, but they were good for different areas hiding different objects. I usually had to sink the camo nets slightly to hide the metal flooring and avoid "twinkling" http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

1.yes they are the sameones
2.uk nets will be posted sunday (definetly)
3.will then start to fix the error i get with hangers (seperate addon)

Superb http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Test: place one of each type down in the editor in their appropriate landscape type, give each a placement radius of 2000 meters then get in a helo and find them http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
This test reveals that the US camo tents (haven't tried the UK ones yet) generally blend reasonably well, but there's a problem with LODs, in that the tents look OK when zoomed out, but zoom in and they revert to a distant LOD that reveals their nature. (I fly with Track IR enabled and leaning forward zooms me in.)
This might be a game engine problem I don't know, but if LODs are something you can control more then they'll need looking at a little bit.
The US tents are slightly desaturated compared to the vegetation, which makes them distinguishable. This was OK in OFP where the game is generally desaturated in any case, ArmA seems a little more vibrant (I would use the term cartoony http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif) and so maybe the UK camo will be a better solution this time around http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
I'll let you know when I try it out later. Thanks for the addons http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
*edit* Oh, and there needs to be collision objects too, at the moment they're just ghost items that you can see but not interact with.

no problems with shadows for me...
atleast the US nets have shadows (and extreamly nice ones too)
but then again, i have highest possible shadow settings... maybe ArmA use more then one shadow lod (i think it does)
and i dont think i have a problem with collision detectione either, atleast yesterday i couldnt walk through the nets.....

EDIT - Well, I get shadows in v1.05, but don't get any in v1.07 beta. Hmmm. Dunno if you can fix it, seeing as you're getting them already.
EDIT #2 - Even more interesting. I get shadows in v1.07 beta when I run with "normal" shadow quality, but not when I run with "high" or "very high." Amazing!

Choice two - less clutter at that level of object choice. addons for ArmA are going to get pretty numerous.
In fact I would go further - just have one entry at that level, say an entry called "RKSL Camo Nets" and load the "units" listbox with the choices. I don't think that there should be more than one class of camo net really http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

People who download one will surely download the other.
One of the included files seems to be duplicated anyway.
And the new Class organization seems to make it more logical.
yes the common file is textures just to keep file sizes

Not without a special camo net-shaped VB object http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif but it does give a real use for camo nets now. You can hide your tanks in forests without being spotted & harassed by enemy helos for example.
Hey-
I just had a brainstorm. Have a ViewBlock object with different sized LODs. Far away, large LOD, will also hide nearby soldiers. Closer in, smaller LOD, nearby soldiers become exposed, more chance of being spotted.
Or... something like that.
http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
DMarkwick
Nov 1 2007, 14:40
That's a ridiculous idea http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Yeah, come to think of it, I'm not sure if view geometry has lods....
Maybe if there were some way to generate "hides" though - like hunting blinds....

The problems with those nets are that when you look at them from a distance they are more transparent. So the farther away you are the more you see whats inside.... So the use is limited. I noticed this when I put a camonet over an east tent in a forrest.

Try layering them. The hangar net can hold one or more smaller nets inside, and look reasonable at distance.
*edit* in any case, they're not meant to be a totally invisible item, they're meant to break up shapes within a landscape. In a forest, that small amount of transparency isn't noticeable. I'd guess the desert stuff though is what you're talking about mostly http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
andersson
Nov 1 2007, 16:48
No, havent tried the desert nets yet only the forrest.
The problem is that when I have a east tent inside a net in a valley up north, and look down on it I see a fully visible tent... I can see a transparent net also...
edit. Maybe I must layer them.. Sad though that you need more nets..
DMarkwick
Nov 1 2007, 17:03
Maybe I must layer them.. Sad though that you need more nets..
Don't sweat it http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif they're very simple models and layering them has negligible impact. If it makes you feel better about it, I used to camo up vehicles and layering nets is what you do. Remember that they're not really intended to be invisible without surrounding foliage.
andersson
Nov 1 2007, 19:58
Remember that they're not really intended to be invisible without surrounding foliage.
To continue on this http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif Yes, I have also used camo-net. And I know they are not only intended to be hard to see, they will also make it more or less impossible to see whats in them. That factor is very important as the enemy cant see if its an important target there. Its much harder to find out what the nets are hiding then to find them in RL.
My problem in game is the fact that they get almost invisible, they get so transparent so you can easilly see what they are supposed to be hiding.. If I hide a red car under a net I can hardly see whats in the net when Im next to it. If I look at it from a greater distance I clearly see a red car because the net more or less disappears...
Thats my point.
Maybe I can stack a couple of identical nets on each other so the combined effect will make them look like one from the distance..?

Good! Thank you for that!
I noticed today that there are invisible floors in some camonets. I placed one in a forrest where the ground wasnt level, and I noticed that an AI was walking ~30 cm above ground.
Is it possible to change that? Maybe its part of some necessary LOD (pathway, geolod), I dont know? I hope you can fix it anyway!

Try sinking the tent down slightly. That's what I do.
In the tent's Init line type this:
<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">this setpos [getpos this select 0, getpos this select 1, (getpos this select 2) -0.5];[/QUOTE]

LOL, it was me adding a VB object over the nets that kicked this thread off again http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif
It works great with VB applied BK, did you see the vid? The VB object was just a simple cube that almost covers the tent.
In fact I was looking into VB LODs (which sadly I don't think is possible) so that from a great distance soldiers immediately surrounding them should be occluded, but closer (say <500m) then the smaller VB LOD kicks in and any enemy roving patrol would see items outside the tent. I think this would have been a realistic use of camouflage with TrueRangeAI applied.

Thanks for the update bk1276! With RC3 AI can't see thru the cammo nets but now they are 100% bulletproof, i.e you can't shoot thru the fabric from either side (nor from large door openings). Maybe it's possible to give the cammo nets the same properties as a regular ArmA tent since they aren't bulletproof?
Since my knowledge about 3D modelling is very limited I don't know if it's possible but it would be great if the view geometry LOD didn't block the AI LOS 100% everywhere and instead give the AI some "peek holes" in the net sides and especially in door openings.
Maybe forming the view blocking object like a thin sheet and place them kinda sloppy on the cammo nets sides and deliberate make some "holes" where AI can see thru?
Looking forward to future versions!

don't forget to open your old version mission files and remove under section (when you throw away the older Rksl_WLDNets.pbo)
addOns[]=
and
addOnsAuto[]=
the Rksl_WLDnets entry either edit it to "RKSL_Nets",
or remove the entry
i figured this out after cursing at the addon maker for not makeing it compatible http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif
but it seems its just a small thing to do....
i love these nets so keep up the work and remember to put those small changes in the readme

Hey guys, just to clear something up, I've recieved a couple of emails about BK's conversion and the Cam Net models in the last week. As of a few weeks ago BK is now the sole owner of these models and addons. I gave him my full permission to use, edit and re-tag the models as he sees fit.
@<hidden> have fun mate. Good work.

Not a worry mate, I got two emails after you retagged worried/stirring that you had nicked my models. I was just conscious that I had publicly handed ownership over to you http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Thanks for the update bk, now you/AI can shoot thru the net http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Haven't done any testing on LOS blocking abilities but will...
