View Full Version : RHS Hind v1.0 for ArmA
Shadow NX
Apr 8 2007, 17:14
Here it is, the thing most of you were waiting for... the Hind pack for ArmA!
Its still kinda beta but should work pretty good already and we done what we could without the tools.
Those who already know the OFP one will notice that nearly all textures were edited or redone, i think i finally found the right colours that i already wanted to have in the OFP version.
As usual post comments, suggestions and bugs in here.
Some known things:
- Rotors dont cast Shadows on the model in Shadow settings below high
- The material effects add some weird effects on some part of the textures but at least it looks a lil ArmA like with what we have atm.
For the rest check the readme.
---
Big thanks go to Scars for letting us use his Models and textures.
Also to GranQ and MechaStalin who helped a lot in bringing the Hinds to ArmA.
For the hosting and the first 2 screens i have to thank Mr.Burns and armed-assault.de / armed-assault.net

In fact I will re-install ArmA only to test these sexy Hinds.

Well, I love it!

Also, the night-vision wont turn off unless you get out of the chopper.
Overall it's very nice though. Having a Hind back for OPFOR is brilliant, as is the fact that its shadows effect other objects, and itself. Good stuff.
Just checked this out and was saddened to see that it still uses ~70 textures per chopper (I know a lot are shared, but thats beside the point)
Don't take this the wrong way, but this addon still needs a LOT of work before its up to the ArmA standards. For the most part its the textures, which need to be combined onto a couple of large tiles rather than dozens of small files. And if the shadow lod only works on high settings, then a lot of optimisation is needed there too.
I havent had chance to look through the models to check for lods and mapping (stuff we were all guilty of doing poorly back in the OFP days, but then we didnt know any better back then http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif )
Its got a lot of promise, and I look forward to using it ONCE the previous issues have been tidied up http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
(As an aside, this is the very reason BAS isnt allowing ports of our stuff - it simply isnt up to code for the ArmA engine)

Afterall its a difference to have a hand full of hinds in Arma with few more textures than having a few dozen soldiers with more than 1-2 main textures... doubt the performance loss with the hinds is noticeable.
BUT i agree that its a prob of having so many textures, not only because of ( possible ) performance losses but mainly cause htat way its damn hard to add effectmaps and such stuff.
HOWEVER noone was up to the task of remapping everything and im not going to waste such a good addon just because of the fact that some dont find it ArmA engine fitting... Arma has a lot of problems even after all the patches and i tell you what our lil addon and the performance loss with more than a handfull of textures is a flyshit compared to that.
Dont want to sound arrogant but i think it was the right answer.

So if anyone is intrested to help with all the remapping work he knows who to contact
@<hidden>
Yeah hopefully they can be released soon, got them on my HD since a good while...

Im surprised, shocked and excited!
I never expected the result to turn out this damn good http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wow_o.gif .
Everything seems to be working very well, destruction model, tail rotor failure... the damage model and its textures could use a bit of work i guess... maybe in the future? I hope you guys will pick it again when the time is wright.
This is the first Arma addon i try and im amazed how you guys made all this without even having the Arma tools. It might not be made acording to Arma's requirements but it performs better than some default stuff. Thank you!!!
Consider teaching BIS how to make the rotors bend while in flight http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif .

hehe, then looks like you'll be missing out http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif I'm a snob, but not THAT much of a snob http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
I agree that it really should be taken out of O2, reuvmapped and brought back in... or a new one done with the new standards in mind, but that could be a while. Til then I'm more than happy to have this sucker to play with for now.
pardon my ignorance (or lack of perhaps) but the texture merge tool with O2 allows you to merge multiple textures without any need for remapping, as it transfers the UV mapping with the merge.
have a read of jackal's experiences:
Linky]http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....5]Linky (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=69;t=55990;st=225)
that would obviously remove the problem with having to remap everything, as it's not needed. But I know that at this stage I'm happy to accept a ported addon is always going to have issues with standards compared to arma... its a credit to RHS that the only major standard this falls short on is texture counts... the thing looks like it was made for ArmA.
nice work to all concerned. May this continue http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

man chopper realy preform gr8,u can fill its heavy than kamov, but its handel nicely, only problem with low flight, u need keep speed above 170, or big chans in turnes and bankings u plange chopper to ground, but in speed over 180 low flights (15-25m) its preform outstanding.
P.S. I have favorit weapon right now, UPK-23/250 HE
http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif Now i`ll never have to touch that Kamov. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

we need to play with the values more, but hard to get it right atm.
If you overdo it it seems impossible to destroy it when it crashs into object, often i smashed into somethign and mys Hind reacted like some bumper car getting very little damage.
But a new version is already planned and will be released soon.
wow had a play with it.. This is brilliant great job to your guys.
Love the little opening doors, and the over all controllability seems smoother then the normal choppers. (love the axe in the inner textures, its a medieval hind http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif)
Only down side is stated before, The night vision that doesn't turn off unless you disembark.
Great work keep it up (without tools too http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wow_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wow_o.gif )
the problem is that you guys have already played with it more then I have.
This weekend I been going ingame.. "yeah the rotors spin, the gears retract, no error msg. great".. and thats it.
I even havent played the singelplayer mission yet, life as a addon maker sucks sometimes.. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Can also tell you a story from my work with SFP4.
We KNOW the code, so we knew about some bugs.
For 2 weeks we worked with solving a bug that would occur if 2 players ejected from one plane (special twoseater) in multiplayer. We couldnt fix the bug, but it was the only one we focused on. So we released it anyway and got reports on maybe 10-20 bus, but nobody comment on the player ejection bug.

Oh yeah it is indeed !!
This chopper is nicknamed "Flying Tank" (dont confuse with T80) because its armour is so strong.
Believe it or not the body of the Mi24 (dont know which version) is designed to withstand 50 cal fire and the essential parts like fueltanks, ammo box and avionics even to resisist 20mm (not AP though).
So in fact shootint it with a Medium MG (7.62mm) should not do any damage at all but probably heavy and continiusly 50 cal fire.

Bloody nice work!
And yes, its the right answer for now until the tools arrive because it was a significant missing weapon from the OFP to ArmA changeover.
And theres nothing stopping a re-release when that happens.
Others should note the "Elitist" way they come off sounding ... they are new to ArmA just like the rest of us and thus start from scratch http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif ... no disrespect to previous old works of art.
BTW, as gunner I noticed that after a bit the pilot stopped doing runs over the targets (maybe 10-15 mins), yet called to attack the targets .... he just hovered at a distance from them, not even facing them.
Could be a ArmA problem .......

I think it should be down to the addon makers discression on how he/she makes a addon for the game. And the simple solution is, if one dosnt like how it is created, don't use it, or request permission to edit it and fix it where you think its required.
I think nit picking and being able to criticize constructive or not rather than praising is a lot easier, and possibly harder for those with "ego's"
Well done, i shall be using this for quite some time. Excellent job.

tried it quick today, looks awesome. The auto wheel retract is about the only thing I do not like, otherwise brilliant!
about the btr80 error, its such small thing. The nvg script should be in the mi24 folder and all events and stuff should be right.
This is the easist fix for a update.

To have this Hind in game is just great ! I like it http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Posted about and hosted on Armed Assault.info (http://www.armedassault.info/).
I've noticed the Hinds don't engage infantry. I would suggest using vilas heli configs which do. Vilas cobra can take out a single riflemen with pinpoint accuracy using a FFAR.
i had another bug... is the cockpit seperate? because when i fire at it sometimes where the gun flash is i can see through the cockpit to the terrain behind. I run everything on v. high aswell.
Edit: heres a picture.

...but AT-Rockets are a little bit imprecise or is it a feature? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
But they do engage infantry just as Cobras do. How often depends which Hind you are using. The one with a fixed gun or the one with the rotating nose gun.
Helos do not generally spot motionless infantry (and that's due to ArmA not the model). Just give infanty some waypoints and watch how they get gunned by the Hind.

Some people are simply pointing out problems with the addon. "don't use it" is not a solution at all. How are people suppose to know about problems with the addon if nobody tells them?
"or request permission to edit it and fix it where you think its required."
Just because someone can report a problem doesn't mean that they can or have the time to fix it.
"I think it should be down to the addon makers discretion on how he/she makes a addon for the game."
Seems you don't even understand the nature of the texture problem. I don't see why anyone would intentionally split the textures up like that, it's obviously just because the textures were taken from the OFP version of the addon.
Anyway it looks like a great addon. Hopefully the issues will be sorted out for the next release. I will still download them for now and have some fun blowing stuff up http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

Its odd .... sometimes they work beautiful .... other times not ..... is it something about chopper angle to horizon or the gun angle or time locked on target?

I find they work best against a stationary target and they are terrible against a moving target perpindicular to the missile. Sort of simulates the wire guidance in a way though.

I took a nightflight and it seems the nightvision doesn't work very well.
Can you make the red crosshair overlay a bit more transparant, because it's very hard to aim at night that way.
I am very pleased this work and now I have a real fire power on east side also so the custom missions will be alot of more balanced.

some info:
Mi-24 is armed with the Shturm anti-tank guided missile system. Shturm (NATO designation AT-6 Spiral) is a short-range missile with semi-automatic radio command guidance. The 5.4kg high-explosive fragmentation warhead is capable of penetrating up to 650mm of armour. Maximum range is 5km.
The Hinds can also carry the longer-range Ataka anti-tank missile system (NATO designation AT-9). The Ataka missile's guidance is by narrow radar beam, and the maximum range of the missile is 8km. The target hit probability of the Ataka missile is higher than 0.96 at ranges 3km-6km. The missile has a shaped-charge 7.4kg warhead, with a tandem charge for penetration of 800mm-thick explosive reactive armour.

When i crash or am shot down the death cam points to where i started on the map, not the hind. How does this work with the BIS models? The hind is deleting the pilots from the model once it is destroyed (workaround)?
Do you guys plan to improve it further once the Arma tools come out?
Many if not most OPF addons might not be worth bringing to Arma but this one just feels like Scars thought ahead and built it on purpose for this game http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

I find that they work best if you point the aiming dot at the reticule. It may be coincidence, but I noticed the closer I aimed to the reticule I would get the most hits, even on moving targets.

Uh, I'm pretty sure I remember being able to fire the 40 FFARs you get with the AT version. I just turned on manual fire and blasted away.
Great work with the hind http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif the CAS version is just... Wow... Having 500 rockets (Called something something HE), going at 6 rockets per firing... it's insane. Not to mention the fact that they (At least, it seems to be so by the size of the explosions) are the same as FFARs.
And yeah, also, the ATGMs acted really wierdly sometimes. Like, I targeted a Stryker ICV M2 which was right in front of me, 300m away, and the rocket, for some reason, did a sort of spin to the right, then did a sharp turn the the left around some trees which it didn't even have to go around, then missed the stryker, hitting the ground in front of it. And the next one did the exact same thing. Third one worked as I closed in to about 150m. I did, however, get some decent kills with them most of the time so I'm O.K. with that http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

well done on the Hind, brilliantly done! and so many variants. my only gripe, and its small, is the 23mm cannon thing is almost too powerful, it totally desimates entire villages and small towns! dont have any experience of the weapon in real life obviously so i dont know but i really do sh!t myself when i see it coming

Cannon pod, eh? Roger. It's just... They fire and move exactly like the FFARs do, and have the same blast radius etc. so I just assumed that's what they are. Understood, anyway. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Quote[/b] ]And I believe they were talking about the AI not engaging ground troops with rockets.
Right. It's just, he didn't quote anyone and I don't wanna read through 7-and-a-bit pages to find out what he's really talking about. You're right about all the other choppers being the same, I've never seen any other AI-piloted chopper attacking ground targets... Except for one time when some guy on a co-op map (flashpoint rearmed) decided to shoot at the Mi17 and their MG gunner started firing back very inaccurately, but that's pretty minor...
they act like FFAR's because to simulate dual cannon pods, thats how they're configged - one of the many work arounds you'll end up seeing with Arma Addons http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

Think they do at least with rifles you can fire trough them at units on the other side.
Hi, i think that the rockets and gun pods smoke clouds and trails
should be black or dark gray instead white; and that the hinds should
have another benches in front the current ones, so the cargo troops
could breath a bit. I also think that the benches should be moved
a bit forward because the units at the far end clip through the
inside bottom wall of the cargo area; and that the benches should
be moved a few centimeters to the right, to avoid the cargo units
on the left benches seats, to take out the feet finger nails by the
hinds wall. Also the empty shells from the cannon should have a
golden shape instead the blue color that they've right now; but the
hinds are scary and really great, it's sad that they don't engage
ground troops unless the hinds be stopped on the ground and
the tangos in the cannon searching arch. Let's C ya

thanks alot for this addon it was a much awaited release.
if you plan an update, could you :
- make the landing gear manual ( BIS should do the same)
- remove the big smoke trails of gunpods, this is very laggy.
and aren't the explosions a little over done ? this is HE rounds not grenades.
- smoke for rockets should be more like BIS helo, but darker, and on a short distance only, no one in entire ofp history ever got this right .
example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h8TsrrigSQ)
-please increase speed, mi-24 is supposed to go faster than ah6.
- the helo is unstable, is it possible to improve the flight model ?
- transparent texture of main rotor doesn't match the quality of the rest.
- the GSh-30K is way too weak, it should take out easily lightly armored targets.
- AT missiles range is too short so we can't enjoy the benefits of the longer view distance of the last patch.
- your mi-24 fires FFAR 2 by 2 wish is good but the rate of fire should be much higher I think (example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUzxeJcYyxY)), this is important because the hind is a fast straffing helicopter unlike american couterparts.

They look stunning despite being OFP models, and suprisngly they handle quite well, as long as you are gentle.
My main concern is the fact that the AI doesn't seem to struggle to engage in them (but this is true for even the BIS ones, I know)
But the Anti Tank missile are pretty useless, they just fly off at an angle for some reason.

(I thought RHS saw the light in OFP already with this http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif)
I really enjoyed George Bush picture in Iraqi model http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif It's quite funny.

Dont expect too much yet, we did what we could with the the few people that worked on it and the not yet existing ArmA tools didnt help.
Some issues can be fixed yeah but stuff like the texture merging wont happen too soon, especially as its not as easy as some think.
Posted nearly everywhere that if anyone feels able to do that or help with it he can contact me, zero, nada, niente, null people did that so far...
Oh and because i often read about the gunpods... it was me wanting to keep them cause they are a damn cool weapon only prob is with the knowledge we have atm we only were able to config them as rockets so they got some mean blast effects and lots of smoke.

I was over-enthusiast at Hind release, have flown it for hours upon Rahmadi just for the pleasure to fly or to fight home made missions to test and enjoy how it was great.
Now, I am a bit crestfallen because it seems lag is growing with hours of play, now "Rats Nest" mission is near un-playable, how bad !

I spent a long time last night playing around with the HIND, it's a wonderful addon. To think that it will get even better when the modding tools are released is very encouraging. Well done to you all, it's an outstanding achievement.
I applied the excellent UPS script to a bunch of them and they flew around very convincingly. Like others here I am disappointed that they do not engage ground troops but I understand that it's probably a BIS problem, so that should get fixed at some point.
I did get some to engage me (I was on foot) by provoking them with machine guns and sniper fire but I'd have liked to see more independent engaging action.
As far as armour was concerned though they're pretty lethal http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

hi all again
One thing I’d like to see with helo’s with wheels…..is that they can taxi around the airport and other landing zones.
How difficult could this be? I guess your could wire it in to the forwards/back key and the rotate keys.
Got the idea from the TV when the Iran captives came back from the Gulf, watch the two seakings taxiying around Heathrow airport,
Penfolde
Oh and because i often read about the gunpods... it was me wanting to keep them cause they are a damn cool weapon only prob is with the knowledge we have atm we only were able to config them as rockets so they got some mean blast effects and lots of smoke.
Any chance they can be configed as fixed cobra cannons or bmp cannons? Gunpods are indeed damn cool weapons.

UMMM...I don't have any instruments working in my Hind?...am I the only one who's noticed this?, or is it just my install of the addon that messed up?Btw ,its in the same folder as my vilas stuff(maybe thats why).Does anyone else have instruments working in the pit? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif

thanks alot for this addon it was a much awaited release.
if you plan an update, could you :
Some of your requests are just unreasonable. Unless you want a total conversion mod just for this one addon to work, don't expect them to change.

no, the instruments don't work.
I'm pretty sure that a few of them work.
(2 hours of time) + (1 RHS MI-24) + (FARP and support trucks) =
..Most of Delores, Ortego, and Cayo leveled.
...30 tanks hulled, shredded, and/or pounded to scrap.
...Countless infantry scattered to the winds.
and many big smiles.

We dont plan any other countrys versions atm only thing i could imagine would be czech ones cause there are still two unused Czech texture sets made by Scars back then.
Well and maybe a Hind in DDR colours but not sure about that.
and can we do our PL version (Topas made textures already but can we get an permission or You will add PL version to Your addon ?)
PL is grey/green camo with bright blue bottom (before NATO) and solid dark green on all chopper (no camo) as in NATO choppers ?

None of these requests are unreasonable, the only hard thing to mod in this list is to config properly the gunpods.
The flight model could also be a problem as long as we don't have the tools.
I changed the rate of fire for rockets, dammage value of GSh-30K, and range of AT-2 et AT-4 (sideAirFriction parameter was missing) .
But even if I raise the max speed of the helo it doesn't seem to have any effect, anyone has an idea ?

The only version i would like is a plain green one, like the SLA hip.
Have you noticed that none of the SLA vehicles have roundels, stars or anything on them, this makes them usable for diferent settings and lessens the need for countless reskins http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .
Yes, I know what you mean - but a Hind (plain green or whatever) would look so tough with the North Sahrani roundel (star, cog and wheat) on it...
But I'm not sure what a South roundel would look like - unfortunately graphic art isn't my strong point http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Just my 2c http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Probably just blue-white-blue from inside to outside (or vise versa http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif).
I agree that the SLA equipment is great multifunctional due to the way there are no insignias of any kind.
My personal favorit for an SLA hind would probably be
a paintsheme that the UHTs and Bo-105s of the german army wear- because it would fit the north-saharanian landscape perfectly.
Kind of like the Argentina roundel?
http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en-commons/thumb/8/8e/150px-Argentina-roundel.svg.png
That would look cool I reckon - It'd be great to be US or South Sahrani troops and infil by Hind for a commando mission! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/pistols.gif That would be so cool!

I already had the SLA sheme made but as Kenji was unsure if he could add it without problems we dropped the idea for now ( that was one day before release so i was thinking better not risk it ).
Actually it was a edited version of the Ds pattern only difference was that the pattern base was dark green instead yellow and the pattern was kind of a bright sandy yellow.
Havent tested it ingame but i would assume it looks good as the D in its current camo also looks top notch i think.
If people like the roundel idea i may try make a simple one myself or use vilas version.
Maybe a simple roundel outside orange and in the middle a red star with black outlines.
@<hidden>, i send you a PM
Sounds cool NX - unfortunately I don't have ArmA running yet - otherwise would have loved to have helped http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif
Just curious - in the pack, are there WEST Hinds as well - the idea of a South Sahrani Hind, to go up against the North Hinds, is growing on me by the minute! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/pistols.gif
PL is grey/green camo with bright blue bottom (before NATO)

That how it looks like Shadow http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif (well, only an approximation)
Sorry for messing with your textures without prior permission.. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif It was not intented for a covert release or incorporation to a seperate mod, you can be well assured. As the pack was out the first I wanted to do was just to imitate the look of the choppers that are stationed in my town (49th Wing of Attack Helicopters in Pruszcz Gdanski, Poland).. Just out of sentiment...
the grey should be few tones ligter, as well as blue.. think the saturation went to high here...

You can edit the textures as much as you want for private use mate http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Can you maybe send me your Polish Hind?
Probably we can really add it in a newer version.
About a South Hind... hmm dont think so, all their equipment is western made so what would they do with a Hind... not to mention the problems to maintain a few russian made birds if you only use western stuff in your army.
I sure would have sent you it, if only it was not a slappy retex http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/icon_rolleyes.gif all i did was to play with hue and saturation of the camo + adding polish emblems and numbers (2nd pic in my previuos post shows how inacurate my job was) As you can easily see I have used the iraqi mi-24d for it - the original numbers are still displayed on its tail http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif
If you'd like you could visit the site from which the photos below are and use them as reference - you'll see not only the colors, but the camo scheme is slightly different

This just doesn't make any sense to me...why would bis not jump in with both feet with equiping you people with the very tools that made opflash what it is ...which in turn spawned Arma???Its almost like they don't want you to make arma any better???Just doesn't make any sense to me?http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif You guys should be happily making T-90's,better abrams etc etc by now...whats up with bis reniging on their "community modder" support...which is/was the bread and butter of this series.I just don't get it.Anybody out there able to shed some light here?Or is it simply a matter of a time table?
BTW,is there anyway to get the instruments working in these hinds?...its a shame they aren't fully decked out as they're sooo nice to fly in and see in game,...luv'n em. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/inlove.gif
On a side note though,I DO NOT enjoy flying them as far as the FM goes...BIS screwed the pooch on this one by letting their helo's behave as though they're on a pendulum, tooo unstable and has messed up more missions than I care to count.GOD help anyone who fly MP,...a little lag and its game over in a helo.who's ever idea it was to do it this way was ...well...all I can say is...the enjoyment of actually flying in this game is a great disappointment.I expected better. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif

Me too.
But i cant make the promised stuff with that few people i got availeable.
- Most lack time
- others lack knowledge about all the new ArmA features like bumpmaps or even UV mapping
- Nearly zero texturers
Hell i even sit on some really neat russian units for months now ( GRU, VDV, Crews all reskins offcourse ) and couldnt even publish these yet as i have to bed around all day to find someoen who helps me with them...
List is long and since OFP i lost some great allrounders ( like Inquisitor who disapeared and noone knows why ) .
Another factor is that we dotn have pages like in the OFP days that focus on getting all the tutorials collected.
How to uv map, how to make bumpmaps and normal maps etc etc.
Can find all that but then i have to search forums all day.
Anyone up for creating such a source?
The Hind is superb like always and when the tools will be released i'm betting it will be perfect. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif I always wanted a good selection of russian troops and hardware instead those pathetic opfors we currently have.
One thing I know,if RHS,BW Mod,Combat and others won't put all their great addons(new or old) into Arma then I'm getting rid of this game and going back to Ofp(I don't mind the dusty engine when you have all those addon goodies),these guys kept Ofp alive for me.

Well I'm no newbie to modding and can do modeling. Started with 3ds for DOS a loooooong time ago. Those were the days. Had to wait hours for one frame to render...
I have only started a couple of months ago with ArmA, but can import models, do stuff with O2-light, texture and do the basic configs for vehicles, weapons, ammo types etc. Thanks to wiki and these forums. There are still lot of black holes and grey areas in the wiki.
It would be a great help if we could get to see openly examples of models and configs of vehicles that are included in the game. Even one per type would be more than good.
Sadly I also have a life which tends to get into way from now and then.

Hi
The Hind is awesome and I've had a chance to fly it now using vanilla Arma.
However it won't work with my sound/weapon mod of Predators. Does anyone know of a work around for this?
Thanks.

How exactly doesn't it work? Are there any errors?
Sorry yes.
It says something along the lines of "config/bin/missing/MI24" or words to that effect.
I've placed it in my addons section of the sound/weapon mod folder which I am running.

Try placing it in your normal addons folder, and try getting a screenshot of the exact error.
This is the thing.
It works fine in normal ARMA. I've flown the Hind around and its great!
It just won't work with Predators sound/weapon mod.
It's the same with a lot of the other mods I've downloaded also - not just this one, so don't be disheartened you guys!
If I place it in my normal bog standard out of the box arma add ons it works fine - trouble is then I have to put up with the sucky sounds that come with the vanilla version. Ah well.
I'll live - don't worry about it! Thanks for your help.

Really fantastic work - I especialy love the mighty gunpods.
Appeals for future updates>
1. please include some AA-equiped version (Igla)
2. please increase the pilot's zoom (numpad + key zoom) - like on MAPFACTS's AH-64 - it helps a lot ingame in flying and identifying targets
Yeah tried it with the FDF mod and it works fine.
Shame Predators mod doesn't work with this. Thanks for your Hind!

I really love this Hind Addon!
I just whish that there was a way to turn off the gunner's night vision. Is this fixed already or is there a way to fix this?
I have one last question: Is it possible to lock a target by clicking the right mouse button when you have that target on the sights (when playing as gunner that is) like happens for example with the ArmA's stock AH-1Z?
Thanks in advance for replies.

Great addon, we're using it for our squadnights almost everytime. But there are things that bother us a bit:
- chopper gets very shaky when in hover mode meters over the LZ
- many hinds are brought down online with concentrated small cal fire (especially fuel leaks are annoying)
- sometimes the gear doors remain open when flying slow in low-flight

Yeh, sorry for that, lately its hard again to find some online time exept a few mins at work each day.
Best would be you talk to Kyle Sarnik about it, i think he wanted to work on the scripts a bit ( he did most of the OFP Hind scripts ).
I think im not availeable before Friday for a longer chat.
Just a quick question. The 9m114 atgm rockets are they really so inaccurate that you shoot 8 missile and it doesn't hit the target.
From 10 to 2 km i tried to shoot the missiles without hinting the Vulcan.
Or are the 9m114 quite different from the US counterpart "Hellfire" ?

Not really, but we had a bit of trouble getting them to fly pretty accurately although this wont be a problem as they will be wire guided in 1.07.

Wow, thats surprisingly low. My only guess is incorrect deployment or the Russians really neutered their missiles for export.
I have just done my first flight and I have to say: "WOW!" This is an awesome helicopter, I love it! The only thing you have to include in the next version is working gauges; trying to land a helicopter like the hind without verticle speed and attitude indicators is tricky to say the least. Otherwise, this is better than even the BIS helicopters.

This is my favorite vehicle in Arma. It does need some improvements though, I agree. Hopefully working gages will be added soon. I would also suggest more armor (.50 cal should not be a problem for Hinds). After all, it a flying APC, I have read somewhere that Hind's armor is equal to Bradley's APC. One more thing that this chopper needs, it's the ability to engage the infantry on the ground. If AI is flying Mi-24 in the game, it would not fire its Yak guns at soldiers on the ground.
IceBrekr what is the name of your server in MP, I wish to play Hinds in MP too.

One thing these birds definatly need is working instrumentation. Speedometer, VSI, ASL indicator, and working artificial horizon at the very least. I (and probably many around here) would rather have wrong and usable than correct and so tiny it can't be seen or placed in a spot where you can't see it or some crap.
They are *very* nice though. I'm glad you brought the hind attack birds to arma. They should have been in there in the first place. The blackshark is comparitivly rare.

Oh they need a lot more than that. Right now the models and textures are very unoptimized for ArmA.

Jun 7 2007, 02:54
Yeah, I know, but I don't view it as that big a deal given what exactly we're talking about here.
How many Hinds are you likely to see in a mission? A handfull? It's not like we're talking about an object you can expect to see a couple hundred of here.
As it is now, this hind has no impact on my system performance whatsoever. Now those damn bushes, tear my modest system to bits sometimes. If there's once thing that *really* needs to be optimised, it's those.
You know, I really need to start doing some proofreading before I click submit post. Of course, I've been saying that for ages now...

Due to the constant lack of people it couldnt be updated yet, im sure Kenji could do it but hes flat out with work on his T-64s atm and the next tank pack is already in waiting line ( T-80 base models already done ).
If anyone has the urge to help make these many textures to very few texture files ( and only by that we can give the whole bird effect maps ) he may contact me.

Hi, for a tanks pack, what will be pimp in my opinion, will be make 'em
spit the empty shells by the right place, that will not only add alot
of realism, that will also scare the players, because they'll know that
another round gonna be fired out the tank's barrel 3secs after that
the 1St fired round be spitted out. And that will be damn pimp. Let's C ya
Kenji has asked me to mention that the T-64 and T-80 he's working on do not eject the metal "puck" at the base of the propellant bags, they instead load it back into the automatic loader as part of the loading process.
In addition, I have been instructed to request that you post in English, as at the moment he is having difficulty understanding you. I should not have to translate between "Ghetto" and "English" for him.
Edit:
This image (http://fofanov.armor.kiev.ua/Tanks/ARM/charge/4zh52.jpg) illustrates the "metal puck" at the bottom which is ejected on the T-72 and T-90 tanks, but as I will say again, not on the T-64/T-80.

This line is why I'm "shafting" AKM, and not kenji.
I should not have to translate between "Ghetto" and "English" for him.
First; by the way that sentance is structured, I would be inclined to believe that they're his own words.
Second; I don't care if Jesus himself came back from the dead and instructed him to say that. It was in poor taste. End of story.
Third; I find it hilarious that 2 of the 3 sentances in the post of the aformentioned critic are classical comma splices and therfore not correct english themselves.
I stand by my words on those three points.

If it helps i say sorry on the behalf of Kenji and / or AKM and rephrase the statement to:
---
Kenji would like people that have questions or suggestions about his addons to ask them in proper english as much as possible and keep from using slang words because he isnt a native english speaker and has problems to translate otherwise.

It was not meant in that manner. It's just meant to be a simple blunt statement as to the reasons I made that comment.
I just thought that AKM's behaviour towards wipman was rude, said so, and pointed out the reasons for that statement.
I didn't take anybodies comments personally, and that last post should not be taken personally either.
