MODERN NOGOVA ARMY by Plasman
-----------------------------
Version 1.1. Dryland Nogpat
Version 1.0. Woodland Nogpat
Description:
------------
Modern Nogovan troopers in dryland and woodland (in two separe addons) NogPat BDU (a fictional pixelized disruptive camouflage pattern loosely inspired by Brad Turner's work).
(Fictional) Background:
-----------------------
In 2005 Australia considered for a moment replacing the Auscam pattern with a pixelized one. Brad Turner, a gifted camouflage designer, submitted his 037/2005 digital camouflage pattern as a competitor. The Aussies eventually decided to keep their current "Bunnies and hearts" Disruptive Pattern Camouflage. However, Turner's attempt did not got unnoticed and he was contacted by Nogovan Army officials who were looking for a new camouflage pattern to replace the old Resistance era uniforms. Now a fully fledged member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Nogova is required to participate to the NATO Response Force as member of the newly created NATO Joint Task Force East. Thanks to American funding the small Baltic island has been able to reorganise its armed forces along western standards. Nogovan soldiers discarded their Eastern style uniforms and combat webbings while (except for the Special Forces) keeping their Russian made weapons, for obvious logistical reasons (still having entire stockpiles of Russian arms and ammunitions left by the renegade Soviets when they were expelled from the island). After several months of trials under a wide variety of environments (including a trip to the island of Rahmadi) a variation of the 037/2005 digital camouflage pattern was adopted and renamed NogPat, the Nogovan Government having bought the licence from Turner. Delivery to combat units started in early 2007 and are continuing.

Sorry, I'm not sure I understood the question but here is some kind of reply:
There a no proper ArmA 3D modelling tools released by BIS yet (you know the tune) so cannot create a different mesh for every pouch and link each one to a specific different texture. So yes the ammo pouches/pockets all end up with the same cammo pattern. It’s a bit odd but there nothing I could do about it.
but my Nogovas are in 1985 http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
maybe you want Sa58 and UK59 for them ?
or Skorpion ?
but don't you think/remember that Nogova is poor socialist country ?
digital camo, i d rather to see some russian/czech mix variant

A good work Plasman on your skins really both Auzy, UN and Nova. Not a easy work and nice to play with. I believe the last texture you made is fictional?
I have some favorite artist here in arma whose work are just great which you are a part in the list.
The one thing though i have not found yet is American troops desert style. Ebud's desert troops are sweet too but are special forces only. I usually use them mostly in missions imagining them as non special forces U.S troops.
Any plans on U.S desert troops or is there one out that I have missed some where?
Thanks very much http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
The NogPat is a fictional cammo pattern.
However I do not deserve all the credit. My main source of inspiration for the NogPat is the work of Brad Turner, a camouflage designer who actually proposed his design to the Australian Army (who rejected it). This part of the background was not fictional. I was also influenced by the Flecktarn and Multicam camouflage patterns. Actually the idea behind the project was to find a nice Western style cammo suitable for the Sahrani/Rahmadi environment (or at least better suited than the current ArmA’s US ACU) Multiplayers feedbacks are welcome on this matter.
@<hidden> Vilas. The troops portrayed are modern (today’s) Nogova soldiers. Like the other former Warsaw Pact countries we can suppose Nogova got a fair share of US help/funding to revamp it’s armed forces and to bring them to NATO standards (including uniform design, which btw can be considered as an off the shelf purchase as NogPat was inspired by a commercially available pattern).
As for addon retexturing I think I will make a short pause...to concentrate on improving my "Typhoon over Rahmadi" SP mission.

Nice to see a Roggenwolf pattern in a game. Will try this out.
This camo fit`s better than ACU, no question. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Well, in the beginning I actually considered doing a Russian like cammo for Nogova's Army, but as Russian-Nogovan relationships are not supposed to be that good I figured the Nogovan Government and armed forces would be unwilling to adopt Russian cammo patterns (even if some of them are quite good). Not to mention digital/pixelized patterns are quite fashionable (and apparently efficient as well).

No offence but what's the use for Nogovan Army units when there isn't even a Nogova island ingame?

none taken http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Well, you know, those Nogovan guys are not forced to stay in their island forever http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif Especially if their governement follows the current trend among former Warsaw Pact / new NATO countries to send troops abroad to fight alonside their American allies. Nogovan infantrymen could be deployed as members of a NATO peace-keeping force sent to Sahrani. Btw if you take a close look you’ll notice a NATO patch on the right shoulder of the Nogovan soldiers.
Really great stuff!, id like 2 see some T-72 tanks aswell http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif keep ya busy

Only logical thing imo, as the camo doesnt really fit the 70% of Nogova wich is NOT desert http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Yup, exactly, just as the NATO forces did in Kosovo for example, or the French/Italian UN forces in Lebanon last year. Actually, peace keeping-forces seems to arrive most of the time once the conflict is (supposed to be) ended.
Worked to improve the Nogovan soldiers' skins for a future release
Further to Jahve's suggestion did the MOLLE loops in one color only.

To be frank I first started the project as a possible replacement for the game’s US ACU cammo which might be OK for urban environment but not for other places in Sahrani/Rahmadi. But I found it a bit impersonal to call them 'Troops in fictional cammo' and decided the make a reference to Nogova. Now these soldiers have personality.

Strictly, the continent of America doesn't exist in Arma either.
http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif
These "Nogpat" suits are very reminiscent of the Waffen SS
autumn camouflage patterns ("Plane Tree Type 6", for
example). Despite the carefully posed screenshots there,
they'd likely be less than optimal in a densely forested
environment. Is there a "Woodland Nogpat" too?

Will see if I can retext Woodland NogPat http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif thanks again for your advices Col. Faulkner.
I Agree with you on the MH6.. a country wouldnt have their helicopters painted in that advanced camo, as it would take too long and when the helicopter has it, it really stands out as opposted to not being seen. something simplified perhaps with the same colors. A good example would be Swedish military vehicles. They have a resemblance to the military BDUs, however somewhat different colors.
Here's a HKP9 helicopter with clearly visible Swedish "vehicle camo":

These units are great, well, I mean the troops.
About vehicles, I think the painting camo scheme is a bit too complex.
Think about the painting manual ... look at US Army manuals ... with only 3 colors !
Army having adopted fractal camo for their vehicles went for a simplified painting pattern as here
[IMG]http://img387.imageshack.us/img387....MG] (http://img387.imageshack.us/my.php?image=landchallengersjordaniava3.jpg)
for Jordanian Army.

Apr 10 2007, 13:34
Well, during WWII (and in WWI btw) the Germans did rather complex cammos on their vehicles (without the help of any computer). But I see your point, especialy regarding the chopper, most camouflages on vehicles tend to be max 3 colors only. I'll see what I can do (deleting the "white" paint for example) on a forthcoming release .
Col. Faulkner

There is a school of thought that says that helicopters are
best painted light grey overall (or countershaded light grey
underneath and camouflage colours on the top) to make
them harder to track from the ground.
You could even make the Nogovar procurement people
more creative than the Americans (with their ACU suits) by
supplying the Nogovar army with reversible suits: Desert
Nogpat on one side, Woodland Nogpat on the other. SOPs
allowing Nogovar soldiers in theatre to wear whichever side
outwards they like. You could even have a "special forces"
suit with reversible "Urban Nogpat and Night Nogpat" (the
latter favoured as trendy leisure clothing by young Nogovar
civilians). Just suggestions. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Well, the light colored patches are purposely here, they are supposed to disrupt the main cammo pattern so that a human silhouette would be harder to recognise (that the purpose of disruptive patterns). These patches also look a bit like rocks or small piles of dirt so they also play a mimetic role (i.e. blending into the background).

Thanks your feeback.
I did the best I could do with .tga 24 bits files (my version of Paint Shop Pro doesn't support 32 bits .tgas). Could you pls precisely specify what you don't like in these retexes (general colors, lighting, helmet-webbing details, etc...) because just saying they are low quality doesn't help much to improve them. Thks.
It's the resolution i don't like! If you want I could help you to improve them! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

yes the fact they are 24 bits .tga further converted to .paa format decrease the resolution quality of the textures. Unfor there is no much I can do, save buying myself a better version of Paint Shop Pro, or maybe download the Gimp. Does it support 32 bits .tga files ?
