Very nice Alouette indeed !

It seems to fit Sahrani perfectly (the look and feeling). I'll try this for sure.

Good work !

Ive managed to get low res shadows working on the RKSL Harriers. And i seem to remember somthing about using a specific Lod. It might have been Kegety or Shadow that posted it. If I find it i'll let you know.

You'll have to forgive me poking around inside your models... but ive managed to get a crude shadow lod working with 30 seconds effort using the "old OFP" method.

http://www.rkslstudios.info/FILES/favours/granq-1.jpg

Its really easy to do:

1) Duplicate you last res lod
2) Rename this to 300 (the number isnt important just makes it easier to distinguish later on)
3) Duplicate that again and then rename that to 300 too.

It should look like this.
http://www.rkslstudios.info/FILES/favours/granq-2.jpg

NOTE: Make sure the named properties value "NOLODSHADOW = 1" is in all res lods apart from the 300 lods. There should be nothing in them.

PBO it all and it will work...if you refine the shadow load to more closely resemble the first lod then it will look better.

I havent tried the LOD 10000 method yet but i'll keep experimenting when i get chance.

ah yes, thought you were talking about the self shading stuff.

Will give it an update once I get the tools so I can fix that shadow and normal one aswell or when I make the new textures (just need to figure out what paint scheme it should use)..

anyway, no problem with the poking around, looks better with a shadow =)

Great addon, one of the first real addons for ARMA.

http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif

The engine sound is not right though...

The OFPR gazelle has the correct sound for that engine. The sound on that bird is spot on. Gazelles alloutte II and IIIs allmost sound the same, I think the engine is allmost the same.

Would be sweet if you used that sound.

nice GranQ http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/thumbs-up.gif

wondering why you need a shadow lod. in rFactor you put a simple expression into the config file of your car and you can say which parts should cast a shadow (shadowcaster=true). Anyway, nice work http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Well .... for me, think you win the prize for the first true community addon for ArmA .... at least in the vehicle category and maybe all categories because it doesn't use any existing ArmA models etc.

Quite amazing really considering the lack of proper tools .... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

shadow, sound and remove us pilot.. Getting enough feedback for a good update later. Also, not commented but will fix the panels to working ones (easy but was lazy).

Just one little thing.. Its very easy to turn the helicopter upside down.. The manoeuvring is like the heli is from paper.. If you plan to update the helicopter (I hope you will http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif ) Could you make the manoeuvring a little bit more harder (Like when piloting the AH, MH-6) please? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif

What exactly do I have to do in order to import an OFP helicopter addon into Armed Assault? Does it only require config changes or editing of the modell too?

Creating a few new selections is really all you need to do for the models. The Config effectively needs starting again to get the best out of it. But its not too hard.

Good shout. A UN version would also be cool. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Always loved any UN addons in OFP, they worked well together no matter which author created them, and can have a place in a huge range of scenarios.

granQ
Feb 23 2007, 18:59
UN version on the way, prepared the config for a civillian, fixed the error so now it has a south sahrani pilot. fixed the shadow, and not only shadow but "self shading".

It was kinda easy, will explain later if someone wonders. (basicly a lod 10 000. Make closed objects, "triangulate" them and inverse and you done).

Also as a bonus, textures not so good but a medevac.

Still looking for a better sound.

Also reworked the cockpit so its more 3d less 2d.

GrandQ, I like your Alouette II, but could you add the small parking wheels at back ends of skis. As a boy, I had been always wondering about their use !

I might do the wheels, its not a piro.

Sound is and making a complete shadow lod. Can get it to cast shadow on other objects but not on itself.

EDIT. Did my civillian version, the "logo" (the red thing with a elephant) is disabled, but you can put whatever you like with "this setobjecttexture".

I hope you don't mind me messing around with your addon. I never tried adjusting textures/colors in ofp/arma before, so I figured I would give it a try. This would be my personal skin of choice (unless you wanted to incorporate it), because I like the simplistic black, but thats just me. The only thing that needs to be done is to remove the "RACS" and maybe slightly lighten up the color where I put the decals to match the cabin frame. That's also another problem; on the other side the word "Alouette" is reversed. Any way to fix that?

GranQ, very nice work on this!
Considering that the tools aren´t available yet this is an excellent work http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Hope you´ll keep it up, other projects in the pipeline?
I assume you can´t do functional weapon models on the helicopter because of the lack of tools?

GalComT
Feb 26 2007, 20:13
it should be possible,...its a matter of sorting out the different slection names given in the model (opened with hex editor) and the config files,..i've gottan the gun to fire into the direction i want it to fire,..but yet im unable to turn it nor to make the gunner visible. But sooner or later it should work even without the tools

granQ
Feb 26 2007, 22:38
rockets or guns shouldnt be a problem at all (unless we talking about some sort of turret), but Alouette II isnt a armed chopper (okey there are some versions.. but no)

new projects in the pipeline is airplanes, cooperation with FW200, most "known" i guess for his planes to fdfmod... more information later this week I hope.. to help you with the guessing game on what type plane it could be.. i recommend you to check this page out and read alittle.

Mod Koh Pulau Hompage (read the "about" section) (http://granq.se/content/blogcategory/17/88/)

any guesses? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

ah good guess, even I forgot about that. (that there is one screen)

Anyway, I was thinking about the "story". There is a soviet build airport == soviet, it is impossible to guess but a soviet plane it is.

Got the wheels rolling, the gear animated the rudder to turn.
Just few more things and a mission then it will be released.

turboprop, 2 engines.. its really hard because its not the first one you think of =)

Think I will get a screen uploaded soon, but dont want to show it off in the current skin but in the north sahrani one.

EDIT.
All flight controls working (Flaps, rudder and so on)
Left to do is the north sahrani skin, commandbar picture, maybe a map icon and the demo mission..

Very nice addons...BE32 and Alouette

With that said I got a bug for you on the Alouette, one you might already be aware of maybe..Didnt see mention of it in this thread or in readme so here it is...

Pilots encased in a glass fishbowl don't take any damage when fired upon, happened up on this by accident, then when he didnt yell "Number 2 Cease Fire" I tested further...

Look at screenshot here (http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/781/alouettebugfl7.jpg)

as you can see it was point blank range and I shot 21 rounds into him and Christ he's still got his awkward little smile on his face..

----situation----
Was in Editor
had one Alouette Medivac down to test cargo positions, he was set to playable, I set another basic RAC Rifleman and set him to Player...

After figuring pilot took 0 damage, I swapped Medi out for reg. Alou. same thing....

Bug? or maybe limitation of modding as of right now with what we have to work with Ex. Getting new addons in game without tools

My 10 yr old son would bring that thing down with his wrist rocket and a marble with about two shots, just seems the pilots would take some damage...

Never even tested to see if helo itself was taking damage..
