View Full Version : teamspeak IP included in mission briefing
hey guys,
something i noticed, is that on many servers when loading up that particular server, most server admins usually have something that says "join our T.S. xxx.xxx.xx.x.x..x.x.." but it usually lasts only for a few seconds. not enough time for those of us without photographic memory to jot it all down! (im sure ther is easier ways) but what happens usually ive noticed is...
1. that player keeps entering and leaving, so they can get the rest of the ip to flash again.. or
2. there is constant "what is ip/password to T.S.? "going across the chat lines.
to keep things easier, why not start to have all that pertinant information, on the mission briefing rather than flash across during a load screen? that way you can access it at any time, without cluttering up the text, or constant log in/out to get the second or two of info.
(again, i might have missed an easier way, or others might allready be doing this, and i just havent run across yet.)
just something i noticed.
The GOL-clan has www.gol-clan.net as their homepage adress, but it also works for their TS, wich is easy to remember. I can talk to them (don't know who did it) about how you do it http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

That won't happen because the same mission maybe played at many servers. You can use the chat / + scroll back (page up) to get at the info.

That would be good. I guess you should add this to the wish list (http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Help:ArmA:_Wish_List) if you want it.
Hoz, he is not talking about a hard-coded TS IP address being in the mission itself or something. He means that it would be good to have something like a Server welcome message box displayed somewhere in the game, which is easily accessible at any time.
eg: a new Welcome Message boxed region on:
- the Briefing screen, or
- on the List of Players dialog (key P) or
- even on the Loading Screens themselves.
Good to learn about the scroll back option though.
you could also add a simple "TS instructions" addaction to each player which runs a simple hint or sidechat message
Running the addaction would then also add a "remove addaction" option
The only problem you have here, is porting the mission from one server to another.
Another option is to create a similar addaction system using an unbelievably simple addon that you could then place in all your missions, via gamelogic, which would to some extent tie that mission to your server.
When porting this mission over to a server they would simply remove the gamelogic and the addon entry in the mission.sqm
alternatively, and this is the system zeus used, on the admins desktop, he has a notepad file with all frequently asked questions, all he does is copy this to his clipboard and ctrl V it to the chat box on request, saves a lot of typing
Just press the chat key normally / and then press Page Up then problem sorted.
see, i knew there was something i might have easily been missing http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
thx for the replies

The problem with "page up" afaik, unless its changed in arma, is that the full history isnt available, it kinda deletes messages in the history after a certain time factor.
So yes its good for something that was recently posted, but then u have to explain to the newcomer that they need to page up, by the time u have done that, there have been a few more lines of sidechat and your message is lost
Because the player missed it and cant see the "Page Up" request, you have to repeat until he gets it sorted
The copy n paste system is imo the best option, especially if you get into the habit of copying it when u start up the game
