Things I am looking for at the moment:

- Interior photo's of the UR-416 APC.
- High-Res photos of the M1919 machine gun from both sides.
- RG-31 interior and exterior pictures.
- Piranha III blueprints
Can you provide anything of the above? Please post in this topic.

[b]This is not a debate topic. So please no discussions on who is right and who is wrong. Just present you facts and let the addon maker judge if he will use them or not.

Unfortunately, i can't get more pics about this weapons, because i've no direct access to these firearms. In fact, mostly of the pictures come from my searches on internet, and firearms owners i've contacted. For the moment i can't help you, sorry. Are there any sites out there with detailed Arabic advertising. I'm working on a set of Iraqi buildings and I am struggling for flavour.

Im looking in particular for hordings above shops and that kind of thing.

Atm the best I can find are holiday pictures taken in market places in Cairo and Morocco and as I can't read the language I might be building up a texture set of silly stuff (Ahmed's Cairo Camel hire would NOT look great in downtown Mosul).

...
Just wondering if I add all the power lines from street lamps what it would do to fps, every Iraqi seems to be an electrician when it comes to stealing power from the grid http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

I could of sworn i had some good ones, but can only find a few high res ones and honestly those aren't really helpfull imho.
Wild guess, but HOBBY BOSS made a scale model called 'delta force FAV' (model nr 82406 and scale 1/35). I didn't actually found the model online, but maybe you have more luck. With a bit more luck the box contains a blueprint, like revell and other decent modeling kits have. You never knew...
Maybe not that usefull, but i recall a picture on military photos (daily pictures) of an Chenowth FAV in use by an other country then US. Beats me what country it was, but it was used as beach patrol jeep. If i'm not mistaken, it was in Venezuela or that 'kind' of country. I searched for it, but couldn't find it anymore (maybe other military photo forum users recall it). Not that it was such good pic, but maybe it might help you on a different path and since it was on a public beach (remember riding between the tourists http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif ) you maybe have more change of getting public pictures of it...

Maybe a request for my own:
I'm looking for recent pictures of the Cougar ILAV 6x6.
Outside is covered, but anything is welcome. But i'm more interested in the interieur shots. I have some (of the prototype i'm affraid), but they look a bit off to what it should look compaired to the ones in use. Meaning, somehow the gunner turret hatch position isn't identical anymore, so i suppose the ones in use have a different interieur layout.
Pictures of it little brother (JERRV or 4x4 version) and EOD borther (buffalo) are also very welcome.

About a week ago while at work I noticed that there was a thread in which someone possibly inferred that there might be some changes coming to the commanders sight on the M1A1 in Armed Assault. When I got home I typed up the following information to be posted in that thread, however, I could not remember the name of the thread, nor could I remember anything else that would help me find it.

In any case, here is some worthwhile information concerning the M1A1 that hopefully BIS or some future addon maker may find very useful:

On the M1A1, the Commander's Weapon Sight has a 20 degree field of view at 3X magnification.

There are duel optical modes integrated into the Gunner’s Primary Sight (GPS), it should have a 6.2 degree field of view that can go up to 9.5X magnification for the narrow daytime optics. In the wide field of view mode for daytime optics, it is 16 degrees at 3X magnification.

----------------------------------------------------------
[I figured I would repost this information so that it might not get lost in the OFP forums.]

Time to give the community a very basic education on the subject of tracks for the M1 FOV (Family Of Vehicles). There are three types of tracks for the M1 FOV; the T156, T158, and the T158LL. For all members of the M1 FOV, there are 78 links per side regardless of the track type.

This is the T156 (see below). The T156 has an intergraded rubber pad. The T156 is lighter than the other models. The T156 could be considered the “original” type and still is in use today. The problem with the T156 is the low track life of about 700 to 800 miles (1126.5km to 1287.5km).

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d107/M9ACE/T156example.jpg

The second type of track that was developed and placed into production for the M1 FOV is the T158. The T158 adds more weight to the M1 series but this type has a longer life than the T156. The track pads on the T158 are replaceable.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d107/M9ACE/T158andT158LL.jpg
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d107/M9ACE/T158example.jpg

The latest type of track for the M1 series is the T158LL (refer to the picture below). The T158LL utilizes the exact same track pads as the T158. The T158LL is basically an attempt to reduce the weight of the T158. This type is most easily distinguished from the older T158 by looking at the guide horns (also known as center guides). The guide horns on the T158LL are open in the center as opposed to having a “web” in the center. Compare with the above (T158) example.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d107/M9ACE/T158LLexample.jpg

Here is a picture of all of the components of the T158LL track assembly:

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d107/M9ACE/LatestM1track-T158LL.jpg

There is more to know on this subject but I am too lazy to write anymore and I feel this gives someone enough information to understand the basic differences.

@<hidden>: your link isn't working for me (?)

Well if Ironsight doesn't come up with something (blueprint) in the next few days, i guess there are non to be find on any public sites http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif . I remember FischKopp was planning to make the RG-31 aswell, but not sure he ever found something usefull. Just checked and the pics i provided him in his tread are all dead by now http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif. There were some good high res between them.

Primeportal has some shots of the Mamba, but can't remember if the Mamba has any body kits identical to the RG-31 (afaik, the RG-31 is a mod based on it..feel free to shot me now http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif).

As for my own. I made a request a few weeks ago regarding the cougar vehicles. Now recently there were some shots availible on MP.net that showed the Iraqi variant (camo), but i noticed that it had some different parts and shaps compaired to the US field version (like backdoor shape, exhaust pipe longer, front bumper extention simular to the UK MASTIFF). Just wondering if somebody knows more...meanwhile bumping for more pics of the Cougar JERRV and ILAV.

There is a Cougar blueprint somewhere. I have seen it but I can't remember where, maybe the brochure?

The Iraqi Cougars are very different from the US ones, the Iraqi ones are designated "Badger" and the main contractor for the vehicle was BAE who again subcontracted the chassis to Spartan. I imagine they did some modifications on the design, maybe as manufacturing procedures are different.

And no I don't think there's a Cheetah on the battlefield yet, I think it isn't meant for battlefield anyway but more, like the site states, for homeland security. Wouldn't be suprised if we are going to see it pop up in service with some Sheriff departments in a few years.

I have a little question, since I'm (as some might know) working on a desert reskin for many of the bluefor vehicles, I have a bit of a question.

In some pics, and in old reskins for OFP, there has been this "upside down V"-symbol on the side of HMMWVs, M113s and M1A1s etc. What does that symbol mean? and is it still being used? Also, has anyone got any good pics that shows where exactly on the vehicle it is painted?

I think the V symbol means that the vechile belongs to "Coalition Forces".

And is it still being used? Also, has anyone got any good pics that shows where exactly on the vehicle it is painted?

- 1:
The V Symbol was used on most vechiles during the first stages of the 2003 Iraq Invasion. But it seems that the Humwwes don't use the symbol no more.
Many M1A1's, LAV-25 APC's & the M2 Bradley IFV's have them still though.

The V Symbol was used on almost every vechile, during Operation Desert Shield/Storm back in 1990-91.

- 2:
On the M1A1 the V is painted on the sideskirts or on the Turret at the sloped area.
On Humwees and APC's they are painted on the sides.

Look here for screens: http://www.dodmedia.osd.mil/ Just search for military stuff. Example: M1A1 Abrams.

-----------------
In my opinion, I think the vechiles look better with the V symbol painted on them. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

They use different ID's all the time. In desert storm it was the V, nowadays they use the "Coalition Identification Panels".

they're deffinatly still in user - anyone who's watched that american video from an A10 will recall the 'orange rockets' comment.

british still use them on a variety of vehicles, although the tendancy at the moment is to stick smaller bars of the orange material in key locations, rather than the large tarp - scimitars still use the full tarp last I checked.

Well, you might want to keep an eye on this topic:
http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums....&page=4 (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=111711&page=4)
I helped the guy a bit collecting any picture i could find of the cougars, but afaik he already had a bit collection of the RG31 and will post them in a few days. Got a few too, but not that much...might post them once the guy starts adding the RG31 pics.

Well, in case you haven't search military photos, it would be good to give it a try. Especially in the daily pictures they tend to pop up now and then.

Maybe a few other interesting (info) links, french but there is a build in translate thingy, although it only works half for me:

http://www.armyrecognition.com/Ameriqu....res.htm (http://www.armyrecognition.com/Amerique_du_nord/Canada/vehicules_a_roues/Nyala_RG-31/Nyala_RG-31_identification_pictures.htm)

For the rest nothin i directly have, but not that rare vehicle anymore so you should be able to find a few good high res pictures.

http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif I hope you will integrate the easy roll over feature the RG-31 apperently has, from what i read once. Meaning it has a high above the ground pivot point witch can case it to tip over at high speed and high cornering...

Maybeyou might be more interested in the new one (if not mistaken):

Well, you might want to keep an eye on this topic:...

http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif Thanks DaSquade! I already tried contacting the manufacturers, but I received no response from the guys. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/mad_o.gif ....anyway, I was able to get a few pics I didn't have before, so thanks again! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif I'll definately keep my eye on that topic over the next few days.

I'd also like to take this time to make a suggestion to other addon makers - last night when I was looking for a few more pics of this vehicle, I had the idea to search on Flickr...and boy was I glad I did! As you can see, (http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=rg-31) more and more troops are posting photos of the vehicles they ride in, so it's a great source for photos. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Anyway, I feel like I owe it to show you guys what you're helping me build, so here's a WIP pic. I've only been on it a couple of days, so there will be more details on the model, of course http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

[PS: Since I'm in ONS, I can only stick to what the Canadian Army uses http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif...but if someone else wanted to build the RG32, and needed help, I'd be willing to assist. Or maybe I can pick it up as a project on a later date.]

[EDIT: PPS: That scripted feature sounds interesting! I'll have to look into it a bit more before I can commit either way to it. It probably happens more than we realize!]

Hi

We are starting to looking into some Japanese equipment and vehicles mainly for troop and equipment transportation.

But im having a hard time to locate any sort of "trucks" or "cars" that the Japanese military would use, all my search results are pointed to the imperial Japanese army, and nothing modern.

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction? Or perhaps someone is Japanese, who might be able to assist.

Thanks

Searching under Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) may yield better results for you.

The japanese MoD's site is at http://www.mod.go.jp/gsdf/ but it's in Japanese (surprisingly) so you might need to translate it with google toolbar or somet.

From what I can work out, the Type 73 is one of the main trucks used by JGSDF.

Might also be worth your while contacting the BOH mod. Not sure if they're doing stuff for ArmA but their work for OFP was great, and they can probably guide you in the way of reference materials.

Wikipedia has some information in English about the JGSDF and their equipment. You can check it out here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Ground_Self-Defense_Force).

The official JGSDF page also has very detailed information about their equipment, but unfortunately this is only available in Japanese. You can navigate their equipment page (http://www.mod.go.jp/gsdf/html/soubi/index.html) by selecting a category on the left and clicking on the pictures. I can provide you English translations of some pages if necessary.

*edit*
Here's a list of all the transports I could find on their page. Some vehicles like the Type 89 (http://www.mod.go.jp/gsdf/html/soubi/bottom/syaryou/kaisetu/89sokosento.html) have both a gun and a troop compartment, but I have not included these in the list since you seem more interested in normal transports.

Troop transports:
Type 73 (http://www.mod.go.jp/gsdf/html/soubi/bottom/syaryou/kaisetu/73soko.html)
Type 96 (http://www.mod.go.jp/gsdf/html/soubi/bottom/syaryou/kaisetu/96sorinsoko.html)
LAV (http://www.mod.go.jp/gsdf/html/soubi/bottom/syaryou/kaisetu/keisoko.html)
HMV (http://www.mod.go.jp/gsdf/html/soubi/bottom/syaryou/kaisetu/kokido.html)
1/2t Truck (http://www.mod.go.jp/gsdf/html/soubi/bottom/syaryou/kaisetu/1_2t.html)
1 1/2t Ambulance (http://www.mod.go.jp/gsdf/html/soubi/bottom/syaryou/kaisetu/1_1_2tkyukyusya.html)
Motorbike (reconnaissance) (http://www.mod.go.jp/gsdf/html/soubi/bottom/syaryou/kaisetu/teisatuyo.html)

Equipment transports:
Type 99 (http://www.mod.go.jp/gsdf/html/soubi/bottom/syaryou/kaisetu/99danyaku.html)
3 1/2t Truck (http://www.mod.go.jp/gsdf/html/soubi/bottom/syaryou/kaisetu/3_1_2t.html)
Oversize Transport (http://www.mod.go.jp/gsdf/html/soubi/bottom/syaryou/kaisetu/tokudaiunpan.html)

Hope this helps!

Does anybody know where I could get fairly high res left and right shots, well lit(as in, it's not a silhouette) of the M60 machine gun. Something that I could use as a blueprint. I've got some gifs, but they are angled(meaning that the gun drawing is drawn with a slight angle and that gives a disproporitionated drawing and in turn, model), I've found some airsoft M60 shots, but I'd really like to find some more nice ones, so if you've got them I'd really like to have them.

Found a few pics of Malaysian Stormer APCs. Stormers are probably the least common CVR(t) varient, especially the APC.

Big enough?

I know I have posted a request about Japanese equipment in this thread already, regarding Japanese light vehicles.

A big thanks to da12thMonkey for providing some very useful links, we are still looking for more detailed material.

This time, we are in need of some detailed pictures or blue prints of the Type 64 and 89 rifles, currently used by Japanese self defence force. However the weapons they use are very rare in the western world, as they have never been exported (says wiki) hence we are finding it very hard to model the weapons correctly, from a few scattered weapons pics on Google.

The Type 89 rifle seems to be more common, than the 64, and there are a few more images on Google, epically air soft variants.

If anyone is Japanese, or has access to either an air soft rifle or the real thing, it would be hugely beneficial, to make them as accurate as possible.

Many thanks everyone, keep up the great material for the modder’s.

Bit of a strange request, but I have been trying to track down an image of the colour "RAL 7027". I have found 7026 but the difference between that and 7024 are quite large so I figure that possibly I should find 7027.

So does anyone by any chance have a fairly accurate image of the colour, which I could please take a look at?

Hello,

I have been gathering information on the Mi-24 (and other helicopter systems). I would like to pass on some of this material to those developing improved hinds for this sim. To start:

While hinds were largely immune to small arms and flown fearlessly they were not entirely invulnerable. Many military doctrines (eg. West German) state that any weapon is to be used against slow, low flying aircraft. It improves playability to have a hind version that is vulnerable to small arms.

Hinds in Afganistan often carried heavy machine guns and grenades for self defense. They also carried extra rockets so that the crew could partially reload their pods in the field.

Most Russian rocket pods have very high dispersion. This is often overlooked but very important for accurate modeling.

It would be nice to see hinds with doorgunners, 10 x 100kg bomb payloads, rocket dispersion, and a few other weapons in the future.

Some references that may be of use

Updated weapons information:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mi-24

A discussion on rocket dispersion:
http://www.simhq.com/forum....2250210

Pictures of the door gunner positions:
http://www.zajc.pl/afganistan.html

Video footage of the gunner positions in use:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v....search=

More rare footage:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v....search=

Mi-35/24PN footage:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v....search=

Some reading:
http://www.faqs.org/docs/air/avhind1.html

An excellent set of articles (good weapon info can be found in other parts of this site):
http://www.airwar.ru/ah.html

Some drawings:
http://www.airwar.ru/other/draw_c.html

P.S. the Hind naturally looses some lift due to the stub wings when it is hovering. It peaks in forward flight where the wing anhedral easily pulls the helicopter into turns. There is a risk of the rotor striking the tail during abrupt maneuvers.

Looking for some line drawings and interior photos of the Panther CLV (http://www.army-technology.com/projects/future/). I've got some fairly decent exterior photos from this Korean website (http://kr.blog.yahoo.com/shinecommerce/8711.html?p=1&t=3) but I have no clue what the inside looks like.

Ka-56 (small special operations helicopter designed to be able to pass through a torpedo tube):
http://www.aviastar.org/helicopters_eng/ka-56.php

I have information on the Mi-24 Hind (eg. it has a vulnerable tail, it can carry two door guns and 10x100kg bombs etc.)

Mil also did a number of studies for OH-56 like helicopters, but they wound up being special assault transports with at least two gun turrets... If anyone is interested I can send what information I have.

Yes, the closest Soviet military helicopter was the Mi-2 Hoplight and there were plans to change this in the 1980s by making a new light helicopter. It was interesting, but the family was terminated with the fall of the Soviet Union. I will be putting together some wikipedia stubs on them over the next week.

Only the statistics, layout and a couple of models and 3-views are known so it would give the addon maker a lot of discretion.

Personally, though, I view the creation of a hind with door gunners and the updating of the BAS and OWP birds from OFP as higher priorities. But, I thought I would offer the information anyway.

Hi

You'll find some interior pics on google search (pictures). I've found some interesting views, searching for "MI24 inside".

I also have the Osprey military about MI 24, pdf file. Interesting documentation in it but most of the reference pics are black and white.

Hello,

I would like to know the following: I've seen a red/orange (or red/yellow) sign on many US vehicles, like on this image:

http://home.arcor.de/vektorboson/img/red_orange_sign.jpg

So, what does this sign mean?

My guess is, that it's the sign for the US troops in Germany, but I may be wrong. Anybody knows since when this sign is in use?
Is there some comprehensive site that explains US markings (especially 80s troops in Germany) ?

Thanks in advance!

Its the standard vehicle symbol for

'do not overtake turning vehicle'

very common on trucks and busses and also, it seems, on anything that will use public roads and has a high chance of squashing you if you get in his blind spot.

Look at model sites, they are usually true to reality and they also add stuff that can give a nice combat feeling, as if they've been used in action for a while.

I've been steadily putting together all the info i need to start making the Hind A (and also the C-119 as seen in the background of this pic) I have managed to put together a complete set of orthos and have a good modeling refrence book with pics of various details .But most of the interior shots of the pilot and gunner positions, are for a testbed version for the Hind-D. Although they are still of some use, I'm missing good acurate pics for a standard Hind-A that also shows the navigators position.

Not quite the sea harrier, but unless there is any discernable difference in the gears (and my own novice and quick glance at google seems to indicate there isn't, or at least anything drastic), then that should be ok? The gear is different on the GR7/AV8B than on the FRS1 and FA2 SHar.

The nose and main gear is a similar design through all the Harrier family but its actually larger on the GR7/AV8B to cope with the extra mass and load. The tie down and some of the details are different though but not significantly so. The main cosmetic difference is in the outriggers. But that's mostly in the way the doors/covers operate, since they are attached to the gear dampers rather than the wing. The stanchion is also a different design. with a shorter stroke retraction arm on the trailing edge as opposed to the "pusher" on the leading edge of later types.

These are taken from a FA2 SHar:
