Here is a video of the USS Nimitz; we obtain authorization to use this from the original creator. We have been using it in VBS1 for awhile. We were able to convert some of the scripting for ArmA. Still working to get everything working....

PS We are still waiting on Hawks to get back with us so we can release it to the ArmA community.

Well Gents,

We've got news and bad news...
1) The good news: We received authorization to release the Nimitz.

2) The bad news: We need some good scripter’s to help with the doors and radar activation.

@<hidden>, great to see you bring this baby to Arma with permission.
And like Boomer1985 says stuff like this will just make more and better scenarios possible with arma http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Yeah that's what i'm talking about... and i think it could use a little bit of encreasing the detail as Arma can handle complexer objects than flashpoint. Are you going to add more detail to the model? and textures of course...

You can add the shadows by adding a view LOD at 10000, but it has to be solid and closed. In O2 that is http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif.

Bit offtopic, but:

For me personal experience, that isn't always needed.
Yesterday, i succesfully implanted 27 brandnew static objects in ArmA.
Non of them included the 10000 res lod and non of them were solid/closed. But ingame it succesfully rendered all my shadows of the models. Not 100% sure but i even think it renders shadows lod wise. Meaning, high detailed lod = high detailed shadow (as it is), lower lods = low shadow details.

Maybe this is one of the 'class' depending features (apperently BIS did some strange things, as some classes accept certain codes and others just don't. Stupid example: try This setpos [(getpos this select 0),(getpos this select 1), XX] some stuff and try it on the ladders http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif ..anyway).

Anyway, all of my models (lods) didn't include the code lodnoshadow = 1. Hope it helps.

MehMan
Jan 7 2007, 16:07
That could also be the trick, but I've heard that adding that LOD also does the trick.

Nice...... Anyway back to the Nimitz:

We are working a repair and refueling script. Where would you gents like to see this? On the deck or in the hull? maybe an automated crane?

I've been on the Nimitz deck about 20 times, however, we were PTing and running from aft to forward. Didn't pay much attention to what was going on...... Wish I did now:)

Jan 8 2007, 10:13
perhaps an animated crew on deck with refuel truck and bombs or something? I don't know how it works in real life but i think having to go below decks to rearm/refuel misses an opportunity to have some nice ground crew scurrying around your aircraft as you wait to get back in the fight http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

That probably won't be doable unitl tools are out, but who knows, I'm just guessing. Would be a nice touch however, a lot of work too.

Some eye candy features on a Carrier deck would no doubtly need to be run soley on host/server to keep order and coordination of carrier actions, other features would probably be best run optionally on the client's PC.

I could see something like this causing a desynch nightmare if not coded correctly.

My view of this is some of these additional features might be feasible, but I believe a lot of what we really want to happen on a carrier will have to wait until Game 2 from BIS arrives.

Now that's what I'm talking about. That fits perfectly into the Marine aviation platforms in ArmA. The carrier... well... that doesn't really fit too well right now, at least not until someone releases a proper flat-deck bird, i.e. an F-18 variant.

Great work through!

As you can see one LHA is modeled. It needs textures and the others functional LODs. But it is at the end of the "To Do List".

Nice!

I'd still like too see the LHD class make an appearance, as I was on that boat on '01 with the 24th MEU (USS Kearsarge). They're improved versions of the LHA class, a bit larger, and can hold a few more LCACs.

I've discovered it's just a port of an old OFP add-on. Just google "Hawks" and "Nimitz" and it'll be one of the first finds. Unfortunately I can't seem to get it ported to ArmA as a static object, I really don't know what to make of the CFG files.
