View Full Version : Army of the Czecho-Slovak republic
Hi!
I want to inform you about new ArmA mod - ACSR 1938.
We are making mod from WWII period - Czecho-Slovak Army. The mod is progressing quickly, but we need 3d/2d artist and map-makers. In mod you can play as Czech or Slovak, maybe as Freikoprs - German civil forces. In mod will be two campaigns - One real, One unreal.
Mod will be release in two versions - For OFP and for Armed Assault.
Our mod is in cooperation with W39 mod (http://iskry.freehost.pl/mod_www//ang/index.html) http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Our mod issued alpha version of Slovak Pack (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=4;t=54566;r=1;&#top) for OFP

I'm very pleased to see some good (and "different") early
Second World War stuff. Can you explain a bit more? These
are Slovak troops - who were allied to the Germans (until
1944) and fought on the Eastern front, yes?

I'm not sure, but he might also be referring to the Czech army that opposed the Nazi invasion of the Sudetenland, anyways, I'm also glad to see something come out of WW 2 besides US Army Airborne Lol D-Day normandy.

Oh yeah this one,

I remember you mentioning the commandos, now that is some very exciting stuff! What are some things you had in mind?
Well I don't want to hijack this thread (and I will get
back on topic at the end of this post) but I'm planning
initially to do British Army Commando raiders (like this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v692/whisky01/commando1940.jpg)
brave fellow) and Long Range Desert Group with some
appropriate missions to go with them. I suppose I'll also
have to get into "island making" too for these. Ultimately
I want to also do some representative British infantry
addon sets from WW2 date until the mid-1980s (the
"Project UKF" people already have present day British
stuff well-covered). I hope the modelling tools won't be
too long in coming! In the meantime I can practise with
3D max and Photoshop like the Czech/Slovak mod guys.
Back on topic; as a Bren gun afficionado (and even a
"professional user" of one for a while) I'll be chuffed if
the Czech/Slovak mod guys (among all their other stuff)
will be releasing models of the zb 26 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v692/whisky01/zb.jpg) or the zgb (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v692/whisky01/zgb.jpg)! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif

High poly models are used to generate normal maps, so that the low poly version will look 90% identical like the high poly version, but without the insane polycount http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Yes, I am aware of that, but normal map models usually have higher polycounts than 20,000.

Is that the process they call texture baking? Make a high poly model, render it and apply the resulting texture to a low poly model. Applied in some cockpits in Il-2 for example the Polikarpov I-185 fighterprototype.

The model 7/24 is a Schwarzloze? Interested because I experimented with bunkers the dutch model 08/15 was being built into in the Netherlands. Also interested in the model and code for the bunkers.
The model 7/24 is a Schwarzloze?
http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif Yes. Hevy Machinegun (HM) is modified HM vz.7 - Schwarzloze.
Adjustment and production did do ammunition works "Janecek".

JdB knows what he's talking about, he was refering to me.
But what doesn't seem to be clear with you? Yes, normal maps(at least good ones) are generated from highpoly models, usually a capable program like 3dsmax generates them by comparing the low poly and the high poly and then from that generates the normal map.
Texture baking is a process where you apply shadows onto the texture via a capable program like 3dsmax, you apply lighting in the scene, render it and the render output will be your texture or texture map with highlights and shadows implemented. I tried this once, but I didn't like it a lot, didn't give me the desired effect.

ZGB vz.33 (GB - Great Britain) its czech name for BREN (ZBROJOVKA BRNO-ENDFIELD)...and ZB vz.26 and ZB vz.30 its other czechoslovakai machinegun..
According to the "Inspectorate of Armaments pamphlet MP
165 A Brief history of the Bren Light Machine Gun" in my
collection; The ZB vz. 26 is an ancestor of the British Bren
Mk. I - itself a descendant from Vaclav Holek's vz. 24 Praga.
Holek (gun designer at Zbrojovaka Brno) collaborated with the
British Royal Small Arms Factory and the Inspectorate of
Armaments and what was later the "Bren gun" slowly evolved
during the first half of the 1930s. There were at least 4
prototype ZGB gun models trialled: ZGB Model 1 of 1930,
Models 2 & 3 in 1933 and ZGB Model 4 in 1934.
The gun the British conducted large troop trials with, and
eventually bought Empire-wide manufacturing licenses for
was the ZGB vz. 34 Model 4 Type 2. It is almost identical
to what the British manufactured as the Bren Mk. I although
the British Bren Mk. I was further developed from the ZGB vz.
34 by armourers at Enfield before production. The first British
Bren Mk. I guns came out of the Enfield factory in September
1937. It's arguable that the Czech guns' place in history is
due in large part to the manufacturing contracts sold to the
British Empire forces.
The Czech vz. 37 also came very close to being adopted by
the British as a GPMG in the 1950s (the Belgian FN MAG 58
was actually finally chosen).
Regarding the BESA; I also have in my collection a letter
dated July 1938 which invites some senior British officers to
a firing-range demonstration of the 15mm BESA ("which has
recently been approved by the War Office").

Can you tell me about the bunker in game, I started work on bunkers for OFP (BAZBO bunker). But I gave up because although the bunker was bullet proof, a tank sheel hitting the outside of the bunker killed those inside.
Is this still a problem in ArmA?
It's great to see someone doing bunkers as something other than a square concrete box or the mythical towering bunkers of Omaha beach.
p.s. the moddelling of the machine gun mounting in your Rop bunker is fantastic.

I looked at the various webpages hanging off your signatures
but couldn't really make much of it. Please explain concisely
what the topic of this mod project is. A brave but ultimately
doomed fight against the Nazis in 1939? Fighting the Soviets
as allies of the Nazis? Czech partizans fighting the Nazis? All
of these? None of these? What?

Okay then:
Everybody knows the history (Munchen pact etc.)
But this one will be a bit different.
First off, it isn't true that Czechoslovak army did surrender witout a single gunshot. There were skirmishes and battles every day on the borderland.
(Karlovy Vary, Krásná Lípa, Chomutov, Český Krumlov...) .
Czech soldiers and financial guards fought againts Freikorps (Some angry and armed german civilians ! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif).
Also, in 1939, Czechoslovaks were fighting againts Hungarians (Casualties on one battle: Hungarians: 200, Czechoslovakians: 40 and 1 tank)
M'kay, that was the first part. The Second part is about 'What would happen if the Czechs didn't surrender ?'
Germans had their Messerschmitts BUT we had a better equipment(Germans even used and reworked some of our tanks) and defense.
Czechoslovak army -
30 divisions
1 129 110 soldiers
199 300 Active
928 810e Reservists
350 Tanks
850 AT cannons
900 Mine launchers
230 AA guns
250 AA turrets
2 230 other cannons
900 airplanes

Alright, thank you. That's very clear now. The Czech
equipment (used by Czechs) will certainly be "different"
from most other WW2-era mods.

Nice how the model one actually looks like part of the

Great bunker!
Reminds me of french Maginot's design of the same period. It looks like many of the fortifications we have on our eastern boarders (mainly with Germany and Italy). Were czech forts linked to each other, like in Maginot concept, with huge underground facilities linking heavily fortified firing positions on the surface. These forts are incredibly huge and complex...
How is the interior working : is it enterable or does it work as a vehicle ? I do believe ArmA still has the same limitation with underground structures...

They would fit perfectly into their Wehrmacht inventory on the Eastern Front.

PZ KPFW TATRA (in czechoslovakian army as Ac Mo.30 )
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x104/petrtlach/pzkpfwtatra.jpg
The German Ordel Police cars had identical coating of dark green on the turret surface complete with the Ordnungspolizei emblem: eagle with wreath of the oak branches. In subsequent years of the war, the AC Mo.30 in service of German Order Police preserved identical camouflage coating on all the car surfaces.
At the beginning of war with Poland, the police regiments were subordinated to the Army Command. The 1 st and 2nd Police Regiments saw action within the "Eberhardt" group deployed nearby Poznan. As per the German sources, four or five ADGZ and AC Mo. 30 armoured cars were trabsferred to Gdaňsk, alloated in support of combat inuts. Only one specific piece of information was preserved about this particular mission, recording the engagement of Tatra armoured cars during Polish campaign. An armoured car Mo. 30 together with artillery supported the SS Heimwehr Danzing attacking Tczew with the intent to join the units attacking from the Eastern Prussia.
At about 7.00 hrs, three companies of SS heimwehr Danzing launched an attack on Rambeltsch, supported by at least one AC Mo.30. They advanced along the road Rambeltsch Tczew and alond the embankment slope of the railroad Tczew- Gdansk.

All the Mo.30 armoured cars in the Czechoslovak Army carried identical camouflage, i.e. in the sense of its form and distribution of distinct coloured spots on the armour plate surfaces of each car. Tge spots were formed of colour shades of light ochre, reddicsh brown and dull green, with the green considered to be the basic uńderlying colour. The inner surface of the combat compartment was painted a shade of ivory. The police registration numbers consisted of five Arabic numerals on blask plates of 340 x 140 mm, completed with 3 mm wide white circumference border.
for example the simple thing which was disaster to allied landing forces in Normandy (czech hedhehog) originate from our preWW2 Czechoslovakia bunker line (as simple and effective antitank blocker) ...
the line was quite well done (contrary to French one) as it was multi leveled deeply into country ...
yet it needed at least 2 more years to be finished and ofc allies which not betray us ...
i hope west remember it finally that if You betray ally in 5y is war at your home

In 1937 the devenlopment of model 1937 began - these already were modern machine*gun posts with high reistance and combat value. By October 1938 about 9100 such pillboxes of type mo.37 were erected along the borders wit Germany, Austria and Hungary as well as in ithe interior.

I am impressed by the bunkers.
How big or small were the entry doors in the model 36 bunkers. In the Netherlands we had the S-3 type bunkers for a heavy Schwarzlose machine gun. The are similar to the model 36 with 3 (?) schietgaten (Scharten in german). It took some gymnastics to get in through a hole of 70 by 70 cm.

Very nice job on getting that Pz.II in game and functional! That last screen of the buildings has a good European feel to it that easily reminds me of an older era.

The ZB-26 was originally of Czech design, though the design was considered so good that it ended up being purchased by the British and was used as the template for the Br-En gun (ZGB-37), and later for the Type 96 Japanese light machine gun asi well.

Very good models, just watch out for the size of the collar litzen and shoulder boards. They seem to be slightly too big, but otherwise these are coming out nicely. Very good proportions as I've said before.

Awesome shot with the vz.37!
I think what many users are commenting on regarding the boots is that regular marching boots would have slight bends to the leather over time as well as regular wear.
Early in the war though that was not a problem too often encountered, and to fix the texture a bit and that's it.
You guys have been doing an incredible job with your work, just try to take any suggestions with less criticism if anything. I can't wait to see more!

I make model in Cinema 4d, in cinema its Bodypaint, and in Bodypaint make texture. Bodypaint support layers (.psd format). Other its work with "tablet".
layers:
color
shadow
margin
reflection
rivets
rust
and other as black layers, exfoliation ...

Released or not, the recent screen shots posted are beautiful. I can't begin to imagine the amount of time you guys have put into this Mod. By the looks of the screen shots in this thread, it's gotta be a tremendous amount.

I think it's great you are putting a lot of work into the destroyed bunker model. But I think that the steel rods look too neat and straight, they need to be more bent and twisted.
Maybe too much of the bunker is missing and it looks strange without rubble/bits of concrete which have been blown out of the bunker

I love the bunkers, everytime I travel to Warsaw and pass Mława (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_M%C5%82awa) there is a number of those still sitting in the fields - as far as the horiozn goes they strecth in a line, looking kinda odd, now, in the middle of nowhere, with tractors runinng circles around them http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif
Keep it up as the progress seems very promissing!
Cheers!

Very nice screens! I'm happy to see that you are working on custom buildings. Are you planning on porting/updating some from your OFP release such as the Inn or Military/Admin building?
How much of the progress on the PzKpfw II would you say is finished?
Was it not customary for the flag to be draped over the rear of the tank? I may be wrong, but I would think such colors in the front of the tank would give away the position immediately if spotted.
