Since this problem is not related to the issues mentioned in the dedicated server thread, I took the liberty to open a new one.
After installing the mutliplayer demo, adding the new demo *.exe and starting it with several startup parameters (-server -config=config.cfg -port=xxxx) the console pops up, stays for a few seconds and then throws the following error:
"Display adapter does not support format D24S8 for R5G6B5."
Apparently it's trying to access SM 2.0, but fails - since it's an average server it doesn't have a graphics card supporting any Shader Models.
Why is it trying to use the graphics card? It's supposed to be a standalone server after all. The dedicated server for the full version runs flawlessly on the same machine. Some other server owners reported similar problems.
Latest DX 9.0c is installed, as well as OpenAL included in 1.02. OS is WinXP SP2.
