Hi!
I thought it might be time to open a topic about my addons.
I planned to do this earlier but my internet connection was "slow" (don't know how to describe it without getting banned http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif )

Project #1
Private Military Contractors
<span style='color:red'>Update 15.01.2007</span>
http://img327.imageshack.us/img327/4335/pntpmc5ps1.jpg
http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/8831/pntpmc6ds8.jpg
Two units got changed. Only a small update, but hey it&#39;s christmas http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/xmas_o.gif
-----------------------------------------------------------

Pic3 (http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/3749/pntpmc4ua5.jpg)
Pic4 (http://img136.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pntpmc3ku6.jpg)

The company they&#39;re working for is called Piper Protections and their main task at the moment is guarding the oil fields in South Sahrani
Status: Update 15.01.2007: halted for atleast 2 weeks due to real life stuff

Project #2
German SpezialEinsatzKommando (SEK)
http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/5169/pntsek1hz2.jpg
http://img319.imageshack.us/img319/1958/pntsek3gd5.jpg
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/4164/pntsek4jn0.jpg
Pic4 (http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/4189/pntsek2en3.jpg)

This project was started as a small side project while working on the PMCs, but it grew from then on.
With no tools released this is as close to a SEK-team as I can get it http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
There are two units in plain clothes with vests. This is a style you often see when a SEK team rapidly has to get to an incident and has no time to get into all of their gear.
Then there is one unit in a black overall. This is the stuff they wear when they have enough time.
And finally there is one "sniper". This unit is a member of a PräzisionsSchützenKommando (PSK). This unit often supports the SEK
Status: Update 15.01.2007: halted for atleast 2 weeks due to real life stuff

I plan to release the units this year, but don&#39;t crucify me if I don&#39;t make it.
"Beta"-versions of the units will be handed out to selected people pretty soon (I already have a couple of people in mind http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif )

Happy holidays
Peanut http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/xmas_o.gif

Edit: Also note that I&#39;m not the Mr. Peanut from the Ofpec or lol forums, I got some pms in the past asking for that.

Those contractors look pretty cool,man.

*edit*

What did you have to change in order to get the vests onto the civilian models?

Again, they arent civs.

They are the pilot/soldier models re-textured with civilian (as against military) clothing.

Nice work with what we&#39;ve got. Not a fan of the "pilots" tho, but thats just me http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

Yeah, it&#39;s the pilot model retextured in civilian clothing, sorry for the misunderstanding.
I just use it cause the helmet model is the closest to the one used by the SEK http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
It started off as a pet-project but it grew pretty fast. There are still some little things to do but those often cost a lot of time :/

Well, I was talking about the contractor models. I guess I don&#39;t know how you made it so the sleeves would be short, oh well, I&#39;ll figure it out eventually.

One of the South Sharani troops (think its one of the royal guards) has short sleeves, tis a retex of them.

The short sleeved dudes are RACS or res models.
The one with boonie head is the res sniper model, the one with only a vest is the res_captive model
Hope that helped http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Okay, thanks. I usually don&#39;t play around with RACS very often. Well, let me ask this then, does anyone know how to mix and match what models use what textures through a hex editor, or is it something that will have to wait for the tools?

Okay, thanks. I usually don&#39;t play around with RACS very often. Well, let me ask this then, does anyone know how to mix and match what models use what textures through a hex editor, or is it something that will have to wait for the tools?
The basic texture layout is the same for all units. (pants, shirt, boots and vest)
Hats, hands and equipment is the same for RACS and US. It&#39;s one texture file for the hat and the hands as well the drop leg holster and then there is another texture file for their Camelback and the other stuff.
The East/SLA layout is different. All their equipment including hats and bags/equipment is in one texture-file

So it&#39;s fairly easy to swap US and Res equipment textures. The problem lies in the file names. When Hex-Editing the .p3d you are not allowed to add or take letters otherwise the file will be corrupted. Res has 3 letters and us (which are used as a prefix to the files) has two it wouldn&#39;t work. You have to rename files (even easier to swap textures then) or make the addon standalone.

Edit: If that didn&#39;t answer you question, blame the beer I drank http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Clavicula_nox4817
Dec 24 2006, 00:05
Well, I know the basics and I figured that in the editor you could just change us_soldieracu_co to us_sold1eracu_co if you wanted. Actually, I wasn&#39;t really clear about what I was asking. In the hex editor, it doesn&#39;t exactly define what each path is for, like..is it targeting X texture for the arm or the leg or what. See what I mean? It&#39;s not such a big deal for the equipment because the molle_acu or whatever is only used 1 or 2 times in most of the models I&#39;v looked through.

Hope that wasn&#39;t too confusing.

http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

To answer a question I saw in the "general" PMC topic.
It&#39;s possible to do the LBV without the body armor. You put a normal shirt texture over it, but it will won&#39;t look good in game

PMC= Private Military Contractor or Private Military Company
It&#39;s not my fault that this leads to misunderstandings.

http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/2066/pntopfornx3.jpg
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/4986/pntopfor2io9.jpg

I thought I put some more work on my shoulders and try myself on an OPFOR pack.

Although I have to work on the pants because they are supposed to be "repro" DDR Strichtarn. The shirt is olive. I kinda like the look of the whole unit.

The whole thing took me way too long by the way. I worked on it for ~3 hours. I screwed the hex-editing. I wanted to start off with three models. Waste of time.I had to hexedit them again-Test again-Crash again-delete the models-start again-screw up the.p3d again because my hex-editor took parts of the code away where I didn&#39;t even come near-fix it up and it finally worked.

Actually they don&#39;t follow any style. They&#39;re not supposed to be recreations of any existing private military cooperation. It&#39;s just what I would think they could wear and appear like.
I&#39;m not qualified enough to actually recreate an existing unit. (except for the SEK units which started off as a side project/testbed but it looked kinda cool in game)
I made it easier for myself and created Piper Protections. Right now they have two trucks and that little bird and an uncertain number of personnel. I pretty much add whatever I think fits them. The little bird got added so they can access the roofs with marksman teams http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

You maybe right that that is what confuses people and sometimes even myself http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Awesome. Maybe you could switch the name of them and they could become HitCorp PMC Inc. personnel. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

Can you make any with Ball Caps (AKA Military Caps) or baseball caps?

When we switch to ArmA I&#39;m sure they will be usfull (Seeing as HC is based on a PMC)

I&#39;ll definately add some shorts, basecaps, different vests, shirts and other stuff if i&#39;ll ever learn modeling. I could reskin a civilian unit, but he&#39;ll be wearing flip flops and no vest at all and I don&#39;t think you want that http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Yeah they are just a reskin of the vanilla Opfor units but the feeling playing with or against them changes quite a bit. It&#39;s strange what sometimes a little reskin can do. You will hear more of the opfor units in the future http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

I&#39;d hate to criticize a otherwise excellent looking addon. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif But you&#39;ll always have people that find something wrong with anything.

But the helo skin, mate... It looks a little to American movie style, if ya know what I mean. Otherwise, the units look excellent it&#39;s just that the bird seems out of place with the remainder of the project.

I&#39;ve seen the recent screenshots you&#39;ve posted and i know your still in the early stages, what i&#39;d like to know is, what BIS model is the African UN soldier based on as it looks like a Northern soldier. I&#39;d prefer the African soldier to be a neutral/resistance based soldier and without the blue helmet as i&#39;m not sure Africa is part of the UN. I&#39;d much prefer the guerilla/opfor solider to be based on a northern unit. I&#39;m pretty sure the community are making a UN based pack for Arma but i&#39;ve not heard anything for a while...check here (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=54;t=53198;st=0)

The soldiers are Ebuds. You can download them from his Tonal withdrawl thread. They look very nice and add African Union Soldiers to West-, UN-Soldier to Independant- and "some other" soldiers to the East-side. Yeah they&#39;re based on the North Sahrani soldiers.
I started the vehicle pack pretty much right after downloading his units and wanted to focus on the African theme.
In the pack are some African Union vehicles as well and I&#39;m planning to do some OPFOR vehicles for the East-side.
From what I&#39;ve read there are a couple of UN missions going on all over Africa so I hope there will be some "nice" missions.
I gotta admit that I totally forgot about the "UN addons for ARMA"-thread. I don&#39;t have a problem giving them the textures I&#39;ve already made if they want them.
Sorry to disappoint you but I&#39;m not planning a full fetched UN addon and right now they&#39;re nothing more than a few reskins.

I&#39;m also working on some african styled units which act as OPFOR. Ebud and I are looking on how to put both our stuff together.

BTW. The PMCs are getting some interesting stuff added to them. After that is finished I think I&#39;ll release them alongside the SEK-units so I can focus more on the African units http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

I would suggest looking on Wiki for the list of African countries that are part of the UN Security Council (3) and the list of member state countries (lots).

You may be used to Euro peace keepers serving in Africa, but those units are not totally unbelievable. There are also African Union troops are well. I wont remove the bluehats even though I believe your aren&#39;t the only one who would assume UN troops would have to be from Europe to be accurate.

I think they will work well with Peanuts work http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Also the res models are too "high speed" for me so the eastern models stay for these at least. I&#39;ve skinned more modern looking units and they look ok, just too well kitted.
