Just a suggestion, it might be better to use the ground textures from Sahrani. so it blends in more?

Good work tho

I like the idea of a IED pack very much, but 1 addon for 1 object? come on scratch.... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Read the readme.

Only one object because our modeler is going on holidays for two weeks, and we wanted to release a proof of concept, to be the first ones out with fresh models for IEDs instead of different proxies from the game.

The finished version will have at the very least 10 different models, ranging from 1 to 10 in explosive power. This addon currently rank a 9 on the explosive power scale.

looking good

although I suggest including a readme where you can copy/paste from http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
And why does the readme say it doesn't work with RACS forces? I simply typed [this, resistance] exec "\scm_ied\9ied.sqs";
into the ied's init and it worked.

I get an error when using....

It says "invalid number in expression" http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif

Dec 22 2006, 20:53
yeah this is just a quick ied I made in 20 minutes before I left to munich. I will make this exact version again but with fewer polys and include a normal map.

The texture is still flat and i havnt had a chance to modify it for matching the ground better...
ATM it is good to mix it in with other stuff like this pic
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e215/djfrogstar/arma/TCWARMA19.jpg

if anyone has any requests for types of ieds, please send them to Scratch if you want to see them released with later releases. I would prefer to make them all at once, and move on to the Insurgent units http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

I have been hit by countless IEDs while in Iraq, and can tell you they are very, very difficult to spot. They aren't just laying in the open like that. Making an invisible satchel charge and using it as an ied makes more sense than those, although they do look pretty...

Man..dead animals...soda cans..tires...guard rails...signs....waterbottles...obviously vehicles...just..dug under the earth..little wires sticking out of the road..antenas man the list goes on, also i'm drunk and cant remeber all of them http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif i should though because i cant forget them either when i sleep.

No matter what they are, you rarely see them. I was saved by the grace of God once, we were doing a TCP, and as soon as I got out I heard a cell phone ring, I was like what the fuck is that, no one else heard it, and I looked and it was about two feet to the back right of the HMMV. The jamming device really does work, because about 15 seconds later after we'd saddled up it blew.

sorry, UXO?

unexploded ordinance??

The picture I used is from an ied found in IRAQ, so even if it is a real one it should like like what?

this particular model
Im using this for a scene in movie... This is before it gets put under the ground, or later when it is dug up by bomb disposal team. Obviously like mentioned above, the point is not to see the ied.
Im not playing ARMA or OFP, so I dont know whats good or not for gameplay.

Theres a text selection tool in Adobe Acrobat

http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/5420/lolbs4.png

Furthermore, In OFP script side commands used "guer" and "civil".

So that didnt work, I didnt know how to make it work. Does "civilian" work for civies? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/xmas_o.gif

Ah, I see, thanks. I rarely use Adobe Reader so that slipped through http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Yes, if you use resistance or civilian instead of west or east in the init it works with either RACS forces or civilians.

Anyway,
good teaser addon, I like it:)

Yeah, it's a UXO. The core of the model is an unused artillery shell or something. UXOs can be used as IEDs, but it would most likely have some kind of secondary explosive to trigger the charge on the UXO, so, something taped to the warhead or laying near it would work.

Dec 23 2006, 19:23
The artillery shell in that screenshot looks like it comes from a
First World War Dreadnought or something! I can understand
the cacoethes to get something out before everyone
else but I'd opine that you'd perchance be better waiting
until you have the tools to do it properly.

If you wan't to add a real challange, make it pretty flat but but change it so it looks like new cement, so it looks like a recent patch of work done on a road, that's a semi common one in Iraq.

Ahm...
Don´t want to sound picky but doesn´t a jammer like the Warlock actually hinder the phone from "ringing" (wich is the detonate mechanism for most remoted IED´s, VBIED's and VPIED's) by blocking any radio transmissions ?
So if you heard the ringing, you should also see the flash... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif

was just thinking that aswell, maybe the bomber set it to go off with sms messages instead, dont suppose you seen any red LED numbers counting down the seconds with a little beep beep

Feb 22 2007, 23:33
there are some ways to control detonation
cable or radio control (RC), or remote arming with passive IR (PIR) trigger or ...
you also have to make some EOD personnel/operators and vehicles/robots to detect and disarm such bombs.

Balschoiw
Feb 22 2007, 23:37
Quote[/b] ]there are some ways to control detonation
I know.
I was referring to the guy claiming he heard a dug in phone ringing when he exited his HMMV with jammer onboard. When they left the scene the IED blew up. At least that´s his story...
Cellphones are unable to ring if the radio frequencies are jammed, they simply do nothing as they get no carrier signal and therefore I really assume that his story is pure bogus.

Anyway don´t want to derail the thread, but that has just jumped into my eye when I read ti as it really makes no sense at all.

Could also be faulty wireing.
There is a pic of a soldier or marine holding up a cellphone that was wired to an IED that had the "1 missed call"-message displaying.
The story doesn't have to be a hoax.
So the bomb doesn't always explode when the phone is ringing.

Edit: just reread, did he really say that his hummer had a jammer? if so he shouldn't have heard the ringing, but you know, nothing is fool proof, so even if he had a device is could have been faulty and he heard a ringing.

Balschoiw
Feb 22 2007, 23:46
I know but it exploded when they left the scene as he says. So either its a really funny coincidence or the story is somewhat made up, keeping in mind that he linked the onboard jammer to the delayed explosion, but the phone was ringing when he walked around the hmmv. A cellphone simply does not ring when jammed, maybe it played some funky SMS tone as Ali Abdullah sent an SMS to his cousin to get him home for lunch but somehow it just sounds fishy to me.

A 10 kg Russian mine that hurls up armoured 4x4's abt 12m in the air, but only wounds the crew. (It really happened in real life (sadly i know) ..)

besides if he heard a mobile phone ringing he obviously suspected an IED, the usual action would be to run the f**k away from the car and more importantly tell your mates to do the same, then you either visually inspect the device to confirm its what you think it is or you clear the area set a perimeter and wait for to be told what to do, you dont just go "ohh hell cletus, i does think dat might be one of 'em der boobytraps" and just walk away and leave it for the next patrol to walk across. total piss story if you ask me, it may be true but personally i dont think anyone who actually experiences anything like that would make so many mistakes in dealing with it and then come on a computer game forum and tell us all about it. i could be wrong

Yup, you'd secure a perimeter around it and call for E.O.D. (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) to come and blow the fucker up.
