View Full Version : Helicopter - Rearming

Lately, I'm experimenting with the choppers alot;..and having
much problems to get them rearmed (by ammotruck)
-

Things noticed:

The chopper need to be in an *complete* standstill with no
motion whatsoever, to get the notion (bright white) on screen:'Rearming'
As soon the chopper even *ever so slightly* shakes, the rearming
process is interupted and the chopper needs to 'settle' again.
(dimmed white - Rearming notion)
-

This turns out to be utmost difficult, because:

a. The chopper blades are *always* in collision with the rearming truck
and thus, the chopper is constantly 'bouncing'; see above, breaking the
rearming process. (No, makes no difference, if rotors on or off; try it)

b. Rearming while hovering above the ammotruck is possible,
but again; with the changed flightmodel (1.02) it is very
(very! ) difficult to hover above the truck with *no motion*
whatsoever! (yup, also with Autohover turned on) Of course its no question,
no one rearms a chopper like this...plus, I dont wish to resort
to some script.

c. Request to BIS for the next patch (pretty please! ) :
---
In OFP 1.96, it is *no* problem to rearm an chopper while next to the
ammotruck;..entirely possible! (Fire up OFP and try)

In ArmA 1.00~1.02, the sensibility of the Rearming 'break' is way to high
and should be made more 'forgiving' (to counter the trucks
and chopper models collision 'bouncing' )
---

Whats everybody else experience? Do you think
that is an valid request for an change? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Another, related to rearming choppers question:

In the mission 'The Great Battle' (Yes, the one, which everyone hates
because of the slow going of the choppers to the area
of action! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif ) you got the option to land your chopper and
get some supporting trucks assigned to you. (remember? )

Now listen: In this mission, your chopper will get fully rearmed,
provided, you get him to *completely* standstill, while the ammotruck is near.
That is: MG Ammo, Rockets *and* AGM114s.
I poked through that mission and there is no special init for the
ammotruck, which would store the choppers ammo in cargo. (?)
-
When I create an test (chopper, ammotruck with 'support' waypoint, some enemies)
and want to reload, my chopper
is (once I tried long enough for an standstill) fully reloaded
with MG Ammo and Rockets;..but *not* AGM114s.

1. Anyone experiencing the same?
2. Do I need to 'addmagazinecargo' and if; I found all other
weapon ammos by name...but what are the names of *all*
choppers weapons/ammos? Same as in OFP?
(Hellfire, Zuni, Rocket57? )
Yes or no is enough for me for now; thank you very much for
any answers!
Really; I would like to do some missions with multiple
chopper supports/reloads, but right now, this is no fun at all.

second that.

In an own mission i need to rearm ... as you said, it is a pain. Perhaps the rearm/repair/refuel radius should be a bit bigger.

Exactly what I think. That would eliminate the problem.

Add it to the bug list ... or else the wish list

bug list (http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_Bug_List)

Will check after x-mas, possibly do it myself. Now i have to fly:)

I'm glad. Its already reported in the buglist. Heres hoping...

EDIT: ohh and there is an 'workaround fix' to prevent the problem:

Never empty the weapon in question completely:

If at least one rocket/missile is left, the rearming works.
Needs fixing still when ammoamount=0 though.

I have been able to rearm without being completly still, but I cannot for the life of me do it again. I can't figure out the "sweet-spot" or exactly where you should be in relation to the rearm vehicle.

Half the time the icon pops up and then just disappears before I can begin.

Also in the campaign I had the trouble of not being able to reload weapons that were empty in the Cobra.

Nice find.

Cause i remember one time rearming my Hellifires and another time it just wouldn't do it. Probably because what you've just pointed out.

And sure as hell i need my hellfires to destroy 4 advancing battleforces:) 8 Hellfires (16 if you take into account the 2nd Apache) just isn't enough more so because at times the Hellfire don't destroy the target.

(ot: And oh boy the gunner cam view is extremely cool:)

Is it possible to add such a rearm and repair parameter to buildings like refuel works for fuel stations?

Because of the realistic aspect of being able to rearm at an ammo depot and repair at a repair shop.

In some MP missions, you have to rely on those trucks, which are sadly a target for destructive players.

There are helipads in OFP, from BAS i think, that can be used to rearm and refuel.
I`m shure we get things like this, once the modding tools are out.

Oh, and about that disappearing/non-present
'Rearming' (Bullets) icon...

Say, you fired your second-to-last Hellfire and return to your
FARP, not too far away from the action;..chances are high,
that your *gunner* (if Cobra) is still *targetting* his last target,
which may be in different angle than *your* (choppers)
line-up with the ammo truck...
-
You will probably neither get the icon, nor the menue entry for
rearming.
So, make sure, you assign *no target* to your gunner, if you
want to reload your chopper lined up with the truck.
Make this an habbit. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

If he is, say, F2, hit 'F2-2-1'

(Gunner;..target;..deselect currently tracked target)

Almost sorry to update this information.

Chopper rearming has *not* been fixed in 1.05 patch.

You still need to retain at least 1 hellfire and 1 rocket
to be able to reload @<hidden> truck.
-

Please include this in the next patch;..thanks a lot! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Best way myself and our fellow pilots rearm is to always leave one Hellfire or rocket left and land next to a rearm truck, both gunner and pilot jump out. Pilot jumps in gunner seat and selects "rearm". once full jump back in pilot seat get your gunner an you're off. works every time. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
