Errr.........Installed, started up, working fine, played with settings, still working fine (at title screen), went to edit my user profile, clicked profile pressed load, and bam.....out to desktop. Restarted, immediately it gets to the menu screen, bam, out to desktop. Tried several times. Completely uninstalled, reinstalled, same problem.... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif

I'm guessing its some kind of stored setting given that i've seen the game work on my PC, but since i got that CTD its stopped working.

AMD XP 2800+ 1.5ghz RAM, 7600gt GFX card, SBlive SFX card, win XP, DX9c.

Edit: Never mind. Found the user profile and deleted it, it now works. Question: What is the sense in storing it in my documents/arma demo? Put it in the bloody ArmA root for F's sake!

FPS below 20 with everything set to very low / disabled @<hidden> 800x600 resolution on this system:

ATi Radeon X800XT PE 256MB
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ @<hidden> 2.4GHz
2048MB DDR RAM PC3200
Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 250GB SATA
MSI K8N Neo2 motherboard

I have checked for spyware, viruses or anything like that and found nothing, and my HDD is defragged. Got 123GB's of free space as well.

This system should at least be fast enough with everything on low, shouldn't it? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif

Edit: All drivers are also up to date.

I keep on getting connection failed messages. Most of the time whenever I first try to load the server, but if I got past that, then it'd freeze after I selected my character. I managed to join a server once though.

Is the demo just unstable?

FIXED: I just need to make sure I'm joning a US server, and not a German one, I think.

FPS isn't too bad once you go around and tweak it a bit but IF you even dare to aim at a tree/shrubs and think bad thoughts about it, the games fps will pretty much hit the single digits. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif

They have stated its not designed to be used as a dedi server.
Actually they've stated that
Quote[/b] ]it's currently not possible to play using it nor using the -server commandline argument (and readme is incorrect in this part for the 1.03 demo exe).

We're going to adress this soon (by releasing a new exe needed for that), hopefully tomorow. in this thread (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=64;t=56199;st=90).
So it is designed to be used as a dedi server, it's just slightly flawed (you can't select a map on a dedicated demo server currently).

Im not to sure your videocard is capable of running Armed Assault. From the AMD website it appears your card does not support DirectX 9. But again im not 100% sure of that. One thing you should check is, if you have the latest DirectX version installed. If you are not sure i would recommend downloading just incase. You can download it Here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx)

The new demo doesn't work for me. Specs:

AMD XP Athlon 3200+
ATI Radeon x1600, Catalyst 6.12, 512mb
Realtek onboard AC97 soundcard, driver ver 5.1
1.5gb ram
DX 9.0c, dec redist

Demo installs fine, but when I try to run it, it pops up a loading thing with a bunch of checkboxes. When it gets to the second last one, it closes and aborts loading the game. No error message. Just closes it.

I first thought it would be a problem with Open AL, so I reinstalled the latest, still not fixed. Same with direct X. Updated my gfx driver, still broken.

I looked around this forum and others, and it seems I'm the only one with this issue. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

I really want this game when its out in NA, but if the demo won't run on my pc I doubt the full would work either.

Could someone explain a few things I can't find or just plain am blind too.

In the lobby the ping is just blocks? No numbers listed, and sometimes a "!". http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif I guess I don't understand if three black blocks is good or bad...or is the "!" good...Anyway. I can't seem to figure out the ping in the lobby. Or understand it.

Also, I've tried to get the FPS up on screen but can't figure that out. Control F? Didn't work for me.

Other then those things, I can run the Demo on my PC ok with everything set to low. Specs are below, just off the top of my head.

P4, 3.2G Windows XP,SP2,
Nividia G-Force 5950 Ultra with current drivers

Custom Control Settings Lost!!!

I've tried several times to customize my keyboard/mouse settings, but each time I shut down the game, I lose those settings and they revert to the default; other settings, like video, seem to stay put (I think, but I'll have to verify that).

This is especially annoying as 1) I change about 50% or more of the controls to something better and 2) ArmA has as bad of a control setting interface as OpFlash, which was the worst ever sorry to say; in fact, the new interface may be worse, if that's possible.

BIG fan of OpFlash, and ArmA looks really good from what I can tell, but it's highly annoying to have to reset the keys each time I play (especially since the last time I did, it crashed to desktop, and here I am).

Is there a text file I can modify and save off somewhere else, than I can just copy in each time before I start the game? Or some other fix?

Erg.

Bob.

I'm abit stumped as to why I have'nt found this anywhere, as it seems so common on net.

When I start game with demo, it just seems to randomly crash. It just says the .exe encountered a fault, crash to desktop.

It mostly happens during the briefing screen, but also can happen during a mission itself. I've saw so many people say it online.

Is it just a bad demo or is it actually a hardware problem everyone is having?
I'm hoping its just a demo problem, I can live with that, I'd hate to be looking for yet another upgrade.

Anyone else know/experienced what im talking about?

cheers

Just occured to me, I've read this again and well.....

Is it me, or is it mostly if not only ATI users thats got all the problems with crashes/graphics and whatnot else.

I have'nt looked in depth yet, but itd seem from the weakest to the strongest ATI card is encountering problems all over the place.

Should ATI users be concerned here for the full game release, or is this just pure and simply a bad demo build?

PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SAY ITS A BAD DEMO BUILD!!

Hi,

i got the german full version, well, i'm german, so...

I'm also an Ati user, i got following rig:

Mobo Asus A8N-E
AMD X2 4200+
2 gig Dual Channel DDR RAM
Ati His Radeon x850 XT 256MB(@<hidden> clock)
Playing at 1024x768

Before release, i thought my rig would play arma quite well. But at the beginning it was really frustrating.
While using the orig. Catalyst Driver (6.7 was installed first, then 6.12), i could hardly play in wood area (normal settings), the first mission of the campaign was running with avg. 10-15 frames. After installing the latestet Omega Driver, i had a much better overall performance. Trying a lot with all settings, i came to the result i can set nearly everthing on high (or even very high) except shadows (deacitvated) and AF (using normal).
It runs quite ok (25-40+ fps in open land and city), though you get slowdowns to 10-15 fps while looking at lot of foliage or zooming in woods, e.g. lying in high grass. But as already metioned in many other threads, lowering the other settings doesn't really improve performance.
Though the performance is not what i expected, the game still kicks ass, go out and buy!!!

Ah, and happy christmas to all !!! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/xmas_o.gif

I am often getting the game sticking on the "receiving data" message after I've chosen my role...its really odd.

It works 40% of the time and I really enjoy the gameplay, but I am unsure about buying the full version if its going to be this problematic to get a game going.

no do not base this demo on the actual game ...the german version runs 100 times better then this pile of garbage..its a bad build guys and the fact people are trying to run the game on there cable isnt helping much either wait for fixes/dedicated servers right now its unplayable

I have spent the last 5 hrs trying to come up with anything that will improve performance on my puter, so far none, nada, nothing has worked.
Change of drivers, cleaning, stopping services, defrag and the works.
I in the game get an average of 15-20 fps with settings on low and no aa or af with a screen res of 1280x1024x32.
I dont even dare to think what they would be if i joined a large nr of players on a server with vehicles, smoke, explosions and loads of other things going on.

With my specs:
DFI RDX200 CF-DR
AMD 64 4000+
OCZ gold 2GB pc 3200
Radeon X1900 XTX X-fire Master 512MB
I was actually expecting a rather good performance rather then at best of times, A slide show.

This game i had great hopes for to be a worthy successor to BF2 that my clan has been playing since launch but i cant see it being a huge hit with this poor performance.
I do hope that someone comes up with whats wrong or a patch.

The game has got huge potential and a great concept to be a brilliant game.
"Keeping fingers crossed"

Topic I posted in just got locked, although, ironically, many of the posts, including mine were not in regards to the Demo, but general gameplay fps - so, none the less, I have been told to please post in the correct forum topic - so, here it is again:

Im with u guys. Last year I bought my new system, paid pretty penny for it, and although I *could* spend big bucks to update my card, which is currently geoforce 6800 256 mb, sounds like it may not make much difference. Imho, whats the point here, a massive island, with a game that is *designed* to utilize medium to large scale battles, with potentialy alot going on in various areas, and with a relatively 'modern' computer I cant get good fps from just one isolated platoon vs platoon battle. Im thinkin heck with it, I get kick ass fps with ofp while running ffur and bergohffs vegatation at high quality settings, and I get years of nice addons to select from made by users, only bad thing, Im working on a large scale mission that will land finished on a game 'replaced' by Arma, which *was* going to be converted to Arma, but im starting to think it may not be after all...

And, honestly, I am feeling frustrated. The project both myself and CSL have worked alot at already in preperation for conversion is looking questionable, as concern towards any 'considerable' battle working without major lag on most computers in Arma is becoming an issue, aside from any added lag due to scripts running in background, triggers, etc.

As a similair example, if CTI ever gets fully ported over from Ofp, no wonder to me that it wont run in Arma due to massive lag...(unless were all content with 12 - 25 fps, if were lucky on a large scale mission)

BIS are doing the "head in the sand trick" if they ignore posts then things can't be as bad as they seem now can they http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif

You may get answers like "now come on its the week-end or its the Christmas period so they wont be able to help you" which brings into question what frikkin muppet thought it would be a good idea to release a demo knowing that they would not be able to address any issues until much later http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/icon_rolleyes.gif

So maybe a couple of thousand people download the demo and to be fair lets say 40% of them have problems which they find there is no support for, what type of publicity is that generating for ArmA....talk about shooting yourself in the foot http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/xmas_o.gif Old Maruk & Suma must be on crutches by now http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rofl.gif

Just be glad you dont have the retail version because the only support your likely to get is from the other ArmA community http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif

maybe UbISoft and EA have secretly purchased BIS because thats they way they offer support for their fuck-ups too http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wow_o.gif

i use FRAPS (a 3rd party program) which uses an FPS overlay to show your FPS. You can also record your gameplay =)

I managed to increase my FPS through Overclocking my GPU, tomorrow i will try and overclock my CPU.. but i dunno whether i'll recieve any boost in performance from that?

But i need a new GFX card anyway, mine sucks...

You could check here for some help: http://www.6thsense.eu/faq.php?faq=arma Especially the General Performance and Crashes trouble shooting faq.
But please do not sign up on the forums for the creation of troubleshooting threads, as they belong to the BIS forums http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

In General, it is known to be best to first uninstall current drivers completely before installing newer drivers.

I am sure BIS will either release patches for the demo, but for sure continue patching the full game. The state of a demo doesn't nececairly present the performance of the real game, altough indeed many have performance trouble, but also many have solved that by cleaning, updating, optimizing and tweaking a little here and there and of coarse the released patches took their parts http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif.

BIS Already solved quite some bugs, and taking a look at the past years, they probably will as long as nececairy...

My experience with ArmA, on our servers, with in total I guess about 30-50 different players, it's running quite smooth, had already great 1-2 hour coop missions and even longer, great tension, gameplay, teamwork and a lot of fun http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Goodluck with optimizing, but give BIS a little slack as they've been quite busy the past few weeks with the releases and all http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

OK, I'll put it in here. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

I've installed the demo version but whenever I try to run it a Windows error appears. The error does not contain any kind of information about the cause.
My PC was only rebuilt a few weeks ago so it definitely has all the latest drivers.
I've tried updating the OpenAL but the problem still remains.
I'd really like to buy this game when it's released in the UK but clearly I'm not going to if even the demo won't run.

Same problem as Enigma and FGhouse. When I try to join a multiplayer game, I get this (http://www.mechmodels.com/mas/screenshots/arma_mpbroke.jpg).

That's if the game is in progress. If I hit "OK", it locks me in a black screen with "Receiving Mission". I can see everybody elses chat, but nobody can seem to see mine.

Hosting has no issues. I'm running the ArmA demo found on FileFront. Only install parameter not used was "install for all users" and a custom install directory.

Perhaps they should have held off releasing the demo until they'd tested it a little more.

Even EA manage to make their demos work. They just screw their games up with subsequent patches.

TBH I don't feel inclined to give them much slack. They release a demo which doesn't work and then in 5 pages of people reporting problems I'm yet to see an official response.

Shame. It looked like a good game but I'm certainly not going to spend money on it. If they can't even respond to their own troubleshooting thread in their own forums what help is there likely to be when the game is actually released?

About the connection issues with servers etc...
Please double/tripple check you aint running multiple firewalls...
In many antivirus suites, security suites (doh), and other related tools are many times firewalls built in, so make sure non of those are enabled or at least not blocking the arma process... as this has lead to lock ups or unable to connect situations for many.

Even nvidia chipsets have built in firewall (not sure if it's hardware or software) but it activates when you install the chipset drivers and don't say "no" to the network security manager installation. This firewall has been known, at least in the early days, for many many problems even when disabling or "opening it up" completely.

So is SIgames and they constantly reply to problems, they even sent me an updated patch exe with an older copy protection because the updated safedisc exe wouldn't work for me.

EAs support in unforgivable though, Id never buy a game off them especially and problems are often left in the games for several years without being fixed.

Nice, another "happy camper"! Hope you enjoy ur game http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

About the formatting pc thing.. totally true, but it all depends where the bottleneck is, and for each game that's different...
If some games run well, but cache most in memory before being ingame, while arma reads constantly from the hdd ingame... then if you have slow harddisk transfer, you will notice more problems in ArmA than in the other game http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Still, generally if you have multiple other games that run fine, and ur sure that ur completely up2date on all driver fronts, then there's a big chance a reformat ain't gonna change anything http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

I'm sorry, but the small size of the team does not excuse not responding to their own official forums troubleshooting thread.

I assume that as any sensible company would they will be monitoring this thread to find out the problems they are facing.
Not responding is just plain rude.

Don't get me wrong, I still want to play this game. I've been looking forward to it for a long time, but given the fact that it appears to be VERY fussy about what hardware it wants to run on I want to be sure that it'll run on mine before I spend my hard earned cash on it.

You may be rich enough to buy a game on the off chance as your comment about buying it being my choice suggests, but I'm not.

Oh, and suggesting that a user should format their hard disk to make the game work? What planet did the person who suggested that come from?

I downloaded the AA Demo, and it is alot slower than Flashpoint, but I expected that seeing as it has far better graphics, but I have encountered a very odd graphical glitch which I am wondering if it can be resolved? Spike comes out the screen at me after a short time of playing. They look like lots of untextured planes because you can look underneath them, and when you turn they dont turn with you, as if they are fixed 'planes' added to the island which are never meant to be visible (thats just a guess though)?

Here's a screenshot to illustrate it:
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/6761/aademospikespj4.jpg

I am running AA on all 'Low' settings, with things like AA/AF disabled, and at 1024x768 resolution. The settings for my computer are:
1.6Ghz
512MB RAM
ATI Mobility Raedon X1300

When the spikes come serious lag does too - 4 or 5 FPS at best. It is fine at the start though, and seems less likely to happen when just driving on open ground, but when I go into a town it always happens. This is just on my own, no other players.
My system specs arn't great I realise, so could it just be that my laptop is not able to cope with AA? Or could it be a bug in AA itself?

Also, is it possible to reduce e.g. cloudlets, to maybe improve performance? I noticed that there was alot of dust when driving over grass which if reduced may help to improve system performance alot without reducing graphical effect.
You can do it in Flashpoint I believe, or at least set the amount of lights, explosions, etc, in the Preferences tool, but that seems to be missing in AA??

Might I also reiterate what waffen said about using scopes/binoculars. Goes nuts on me when I look through those. Maybe if there was a way to alter the LODs this may help, so things dont look so hi-res when zoomed in?

When I dont get the spikes the demo is good and I am surprised how different it feels to Flashpoint, in some good, and a few bad ways.

Edit: Never mind. Found the user profile and deleted it, it now works. Question: What is the sense in storing it in my documents/arma demo? Put it in the bloody ArmA root for F's sake!
You're not really familiar with the concept of limited user accounts are you? Putting settings in the ArmA root directory would cause Vista to pop up with some UAC dialogs, and simply wouldn't be possible for someone like me using a LUA in XP (unless they installed ArmA onto a fat32 partition).

Problem is that people must have an issue and fix it before they can help people with the same problem.

Anyway - People talking about not wanting the grass. And about the Trees causeing a lot of FPS Drop.

Object Detail :Adds/thickens grass and fills in/ adds green to trees and bushes far away. The FPS loss gets worse as you go from VL to VH.

Texture Detail:Things to look good/bad close up, Like leaves. FPS Drops are dependant on how far you are from the textured item. The textures show when zoomed in to trees and such can cause much FPS drop.

Shadows:Big Time FPS drop in woods when turned on. Every Tree has one.

I've seen a nice improvement in my demo gameplay by doing some basic PC maintenance. As I said before, the demo ran ok on my system with this setup

P4, 3.2 gig WinXP
Nvidia G-force 5950 Ultra
1 gig of ram

I thought I had the most up to date Nvidia drivers, I didn't. New drivers and a noticable improvement.

Also running basic spybot and AdAware made a improvement. Then making sure Norton was turned off while playing helped.

I still haven't tried Aussie Daves Direct X upgrade suggestion, but will later. Not to worried right now because the demo is running better.

and all this on a 5950..Can't wait for some extra coin to upgrade my video card and see this game fly when it is released in my area.

so fix your shit, or make sure it's up to date before giving up

Yeap,I was getting the same issue with other games, also you may want to think about up grading your ram a bit,1 gig is the usual normal these days.

As nice as AA's graphics are,it would be better if they modified the engine in some way to have texture detail at "low, medium, high, very high" so that once you choose one,the textures always stay that way. Then again the fact that things do not render as they should may simply be due to my graphics card, its not really top noth by a longshot.

Shadows are usually the worst frame rate killers of all,I'v had to run nearly 80% of my games without shadows because they do such, but theres nothing wrong with the woods part,if you want to avoid that, just turn shadows off.

I can't say why they wouldn't be talking to the community much but I would say that more talking means less editing, and once a community member gets ahold of one of the devs, you know just as well as I that the questioning will never cease.

Goodluck!
It's not any of that. I opened all my routers and I have no firewall on. The only protection system I have is AVG and I turend it off and no joy.

Well, Im done trying. Ive attempted nearly everything suggested to improve perfomance a bit with this game and so far nothing has moved the FPS more than 1-2 in either direction. There is something seriously wrong when extreme setting changes have little impact on perfomance. After reading many posts in this forum and others, no patterns are showing on how to make adjustements. It seems every setup has its own solutions or tweaks that works best. For example: I get crappy fps but when I go into woods it doesnt get any worse for me, yet others say woods and grass kills there FPS. Another guy who i play with has the same vid card, equal processor and same memory, yet he gets about 5 frames more than i do at higher settings??? Yet every other game we play I usually do better than he does in perfomance.

Im ready to give up but hope someone can figure out this before I do. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/goodnight.gif

It does add a lot to the game with shadows on, but it's just the fact that it ridiculously eats away at FPS. It's just not worth it if you're looking for balance.

Please note that if by any chance you download a demo build 5108 it's not the final version which is supposed to be 5109.

I took this from the Expected Release Dates thread...

I think i have build 5108 as it appears on the main menu at the bottom. Version 1.03 5108... Is this an issue? Whats the difference between build 5108 and 5109? Im playing multiplayer fine (admittedly with a low FPS..)

It's funny how things change. First i hated the ArmA demo for being so unstable (crashed with bluescreen + reboot within 10 minutes EVERY time), now that I've gotten it more stable, i love it http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Things I did to get it stable that you can try out for yourselves:
1. Install the latest DirectX9 december update (link found earlier in this thread)
2. Uninstall OpenAL and install the latest OpenAL drivers (link also in this thread)
3. Running the game on only one processor if you have a dual-core

I'm not sure about point 3, but last time I tried it, the game crashed to desktop instead of giving me a bluescreen. Will try to verify if that's the case.

And the game runs like crap, even on low settings. Is it just the demo or is the full game even worse? Guess my years of waiting have been for nothing. At least im lucky the game isn't out yet here in Europe as now i could try out the demo first.

In a tactical shooter you need good performance because shooting running people is already harder then in a arcade-game like BF2. And with low performance it's like shooting ducks when your drunk.

Edit: Ok, i turned off the shadows and the game runs fine now.

What i miss however is like in OFP where you could look
around inside a tank when in commander mode or when in gunner mode in the tank. Now it's more like (dare i say it) yes, it's more like BF this way. Also i don't like the green icons appearing when standing near a vehcile.

I have two PCs here.

The first is an AMD3500/2gigRAM/GForce7900GS-256mb running Windows XP64bit. This runs the Demo no probs.

Then I copied the Demo setup file to my other pc : AMDAthlon2400/512MB/GForce6800LE-128mb running Windows XP32bit.

On this machine (as with some other people here) the demo installs but refuses to launch. It shows the panel with tickbox's then gives a windows error, which I have Included below. I have updated my GFX drivers to latest. I have Installed the August 2006 DX update, and then the December 2006 update. I have also tried putting the DX9 dll in the ArmAdemo folder, but nothing works. just keeps on giving me this error. I am at my wits end. I understand this is a bad time to be trying to get some help for the demo from the BI guys. When ever you official guys can shed some light on this it will be much appreciated http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Well happy Christmas guys, have a good one.

Ok, apart from having some of the problems other members of this board have experienced, I happened upon a rather interesting bug.
While playing on a server the soldier I played all of a sudden started running around by himself. I couldn't run, but I still could shoot and reload. But the player was acting logically, not just running like a plucked hen as can be the result of extreme lag.
After a while we figured out that another player was playing the running part, and I played the shooting part of the soldier!
And it seemed like we weren't the only 2 that had that bizarre problem on that server.

As for 2 suggestions to improve the multiplay part of the game, first I'd like you guys to replace the 1-3 boxes under "Ping" with real numbers.

Second, a option for server hosts to limit people with high ping to not be able to join the server.
As it was now I couldn't find a server with only low ping players gaming. Even if we were 4 with low ping, there could be a 5th player with 460 in ping. Wich, needless to say, ruins for the rest.

Merry christmas.

Edit: Typo.

The new demo doesn't work for me. Specs:

AMD XP Athlon 3200+
ATI Radeon x1600, Catalyst 6.12, 512mb
Realtek onboard AC97 soundcard, driver ver 5.1
1.5gb ram
DX 9.0c, dec redist

Demo installs fine, but when I try to run it, it pops up a loading thing with a bunch of checkboxes. When it gets to the second last one, it closes and aborts loading the game. No error message. Just closes it.
So nobody has any ideas? Does anyone know what the second last check box is even doing?

This problem doesn't make sense to me, and it seems easily fixable if I could just find out what the second last check box is loading.

I'm thinking its just incompatable with my hardware setup, or one of my drivers. I really wish it'd give an error when it crashes.

I have also tried two different video drivers on it, an old build of omega driver, and the latest Catalyst. Neither worked.

I don't think this is of any significance as on the my other PC, which runs the demo fine, the last two check boxes don't get ticked either.

I have read on another forum about some-one who was having this problem and they fixed it with a reformat. I am totally against doing this, least of all because its a pain in the butt, mostly because it must be fixable, its just not easy to pin down. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif

Yeah, formatting to be able to play a demo isn't very practical.

I guess there has to be something that is conflicting with the game, and I guess it has to be something other than drivers/direct x/open AL. What else could be the game even be relying on to run?

There is not a lot they can do with words. The demo has obvious issues that perhaps can only be resolved in a patch.

I wonder, with the rush of us fans wanting to get our hands on as much of the game as posible do we remember to do the simple things such as defraging our Hard Drives after installation?

No, but the least they could do would be to come on here and let us know that they are taking notice of our posts and that they are doing something about it.

Just ignoring us is not giving a very good impression of the company and makes you wonder how well they will support the full game when it is released.

Remeber this remark from Marek Spanek:

Please note that if by any chance you download a demo build 5108 it's not the final version which is supposed to be 5109.

I took this from the Expected Release Dates thread...

I think i have build 5108 as it appears on the main menu at the bottom. Version 1.03 5108... Is this an issue? Whats the difference between build 5108 and 5109? Im playing multiplayer fine (admittedly with a low FPS..)

Anyone know anything about this?
No response?

Whats the difference between the builds? Anyone else have build 5108? I downloaded this direct from Fileplanet as it became downloadable...

I've no idea what the exact differences in the demo are but atleast get the latest/proper.

Could be more stable, I have really no idea as I never got the 5108 version. Don't ask questions just get the latest version.

EDIT

@<hidden>

This problem was fixed on these forums somewhere already, I dont have time to look for but it the SEARCH button is your best friend.

I think someone searched for that file and downloaded if off the net individually. And just dumped it into the right place.

Quote[/b] ]As for 2 suggestions to improve the multiplay part of the game, first I'd like you guys to replace the 1-3 boxes under "Ping" with real numbers.

Second, a option for server hosts to limit people with high ping to not be able to join the server.
As it was now I couldn't find a server with only low ping players gaming. Even if we were 4 with low ping, there could be a 5th player with 460 in ping. Wich, needless to say, ruins for the rest.

Good suggestions, especially the first one. You can, sort of, solve the ping problem by applying a filter to filter out all games below a certain ping rate.

I have not yet been able to play the demo on multiplayer for more than 5 minutes, huuuuge lag everytime. This problem must be server-related since I can play the demo just fine with settings maxed in a locked server, and I have a cable connection.

To all with a Windows Error at the second to last checkbox, CHECK YOUR NFORCE DRIVERS IF YOU USE NFORCE AND UPDATE THEM 4.62 this fixed the problem for me, my current problem is that I have a CTD when at the connection screen at 'Recieving', does anyone know what ports I have to open?
I already have the latest NForce and graphics card drivers so unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the cause in my case http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif

In the English part of the board please write in English and in the Czech write in Czech. Try avoiding writing in any other language since the majority of the members most likely won't understand.

Please avoid using short forms of words e.g. "m8" instead of mate, "u r" instead of you are or your, it may seem attractive to type in such a "shorthand" manner but remember that there are many people on the forums who do not have English as a first language, so it is disrespectful to use bad English simply for the sake of laziness. The reason for this thread is for users to help other users with problems. The development team is not available at all times to help with problems, which even they may not have a clue about how to fix.

I see a lot of people whinging about the lack of response from the devs...whilst I also have issues (but I can play 40% of the time and it rocks http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/pistols.gif ), you have to be patient, and allow the dev team to see what the major problems are, then they have to try and re-create these problems (which is why they need as detailed info as possible), and only then can they actually attempt to resolve them...lengthening this thread with continued complaints is a waste of time.

I agree with some peoples sentiments regarding the demo, it seems to have a lot of issues, perhaps due to being rushed out the door, but you cant expect instant fixes, particularly since the devs obviously wouldn't have released the demo if they had experienced these issues in testing.

Be patient, give them a couple of weeks.

I have read on another forum about some-one who was having this problem and they fixed it with a reformat. I am totally against doing this, least of all because its a pain in the butt, mostly because it must be fixable, its just not easy to pin down.
I caved and formatted my PC, since it needed doing anyway I guess. Demo now gives me the dx9 dll error, and I'm currently downloading the fix from microsoft right now for that.

I guess formatting does indeed fix it.

It'd be really nice to know what conflicts and causes this error, its probably all of 10 seconds of work to fix it if we knew what was really causing it. Spending 5 hours backing up/formatting/reinstalling everything is a huge pain in the ass.

Well I'm afraid that if that is the only cure then the game can wait until I'm ready to do it again. I only built the PC 2 months ago and I'm not doing it again now just so that I can play a demo.

I downloaded and installed the demo 3 times, and it don't start.

The guys from BIS are hoping that all the hardcore OPF players will buy ArmA and make in their Mods a good game of this .... . So they can just relax and sell the game. I don’t think so.

At least some Russian addonmakers have no longer interest to support that game. (flashpoint.ru) http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/goodnight.gif And I can fully understand them. The bots, the game options, formations, almost everything is the same, from OPF.

How you want to fascinate people with this?

And no – there will be no help – the support people are to busy banning someone right now.

So why not have messages come up with whats going on and why does it list locked servers as available?

Its insane that you have to join dozens of games in the hope of finding one that actually going.

I had a look at the crash logs and it was to do with the latest ATI drivers although the card works with everything else.

The first few times I had to hold down the off button on the comp to power it down to get out. I tried closing as many programs as I could and I got farther into the startup sequence but eventually the same problem comes up again.. I see a few splash screens, then poof. bob819 & plantiff1, you should try checking your ArmA RPT file (in C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Application Data\ArmA). Don't post it here - it's likely too big. This file can be opened with notepad and might give you some pointers as to the problem. This is only if you've exausted all other methods (updated drivers, most recent version of DirectX, the usual).

If you can't make any sense of it, PM your RPTs to me and I'll try and help.

Thanks for the prompt reply, Franze. Merry Christmas!

I installed the thing on my other computer first, and it ran fine, then I xfered it over my LAN to this one. Instead of worrying about file corruption and stuff, I'm redownloading the thing and reinstalling it. I've updated my gcard drivers and dx. I've recently had a firmware upgrade for the mobo, but there doesn't look like there's any driver upgrades that would be relevent (LAN, onboard sound, RAID drivers only). Hopefully the new demo download will be sufficient, but I doubt it. I'll take a look at that file once the download in through. I may take you up on your generous offer to go through it with me, depending on the complexity.

Thanks again.

edit: yeah, same thing as Bob's. Last two boxes remain unchecked.

Franze, I'm having trouble locating that file. I've search all of the application data folders in the documents and settings folder. For my user account and for all users, there is no directory named ArmA or anything BIS related in the applications data folders.

edit: I've located that file. For others searching for it, try

Is there anyone else that have broken visibility setting in the demo???

I have tried to find some info about it, but found NOTHING.

Arma is running horribly on my X2 3800+/X1800XT, average 20 fps at all normal settings (postproc low, AF disabled, AA low) and 10x7 resolution. Dropping it to very low you say? A gain of 6 or maybe 7 fps at 800x600 (yay). Setting it to very high? An ASTOUNDING drop of 2 fps.

I have done every tweak in the book, changed variables (including manually lowered objects well below very low, lol... But that STILL doesnt produce many extra frames), added that maxmem setting in the shortcut, updated display, sound and CPU drivers, tweak everything I can imagine in the Catalyst Control Center for more speed... Nothing has changed.

The only thing I cannot change, which should bring me the extra 5-10 fps average I need for at least playable performance, is visibility, cause it wont work. I've tried manually changing it, no effect. 500m or 10Km, it look the same and it got the same performance.

@<hidden> Blazin

You simply need to download the latest version of direct x from the microsoft website.

@<hidden> Bob

I assume your windows account name is not bob, but double click on my computer, then open c:\ drive. From there, locate the documents and settings folder. In that folder, you should see the some folders including on that is the name of the windows account you are using. Let's call it Bob for now.

C:\Documents and Settings\Bob\

You should be able to find this no problem. Look in that folder, and see if you can find a folder called Local Settings. If you can't you'll need to change your explorer settings to allow you to see hidden folders. Open up explorer (windows explorer not internet explorer). You can do this by right clicking on any folder and choosing the option explore. At the top, choose tools and then folder options. This will open a new dialogue with tabs at the top. Click on the view tab and locate Hidden Files and Folders group. Choose the Show Hidden Files and Folders radio button. Apply to all folders at the top. Hit OK. You should now be able to see Local Settings, and from there, you should be able to navigate to the path:

C:\Documents and Settings\Bob\Local Settings\Application Data\ArmA Demo

SOLUTION.........(for ATI folks) changed my refresh rate to 60 hz (problem solved). Check the minimum specs for graphics cards. I'm using a Rad 9600 pro which is the bare minimum I believe.

After that, I had to update my DirectX and the demo is running well so far.

My specs:
Celeron 3.2 Ghz
512 MB ram
Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT.
thanks man. that did solve the unzipping prob.... I got it to the D drive and when I try starting up the game this is the new problem it gives lol

I've tried just about everything I could think of to get that glitch fixed. I think all you (we) can do is hold tight until official word comes through on it.

What are your system specs? Have you already tried the basics (updated DirectX, latest drivers, etc.)?

The only thing I can think of is that current vid card is not hacking it

I got latest version of Direct X

RAM is at 1.5 Gb's

and I got plenty of hardrive space

the current vid card I got is Video Card: ATI Radeon™ 9200 AGP 8X 3D Graphics Hardware Acceleration

but I'am going to be upgrading to a better vid card in the very near future.

Anyone else with Crossfire out there? Let me know if you can run the demo with crossfire turned on. My problem above was some kind of conflict between ArmA and Crossfire mode. The game runs fine under any graphics setting now as long as crossfire is off.

No problems except for the occasional CTD and when choosing weapons in Coop, sometimes they appear when you spawn and other times they don't which is frustrating when you only have 2 grenades and a pair of binoculars to win a war with.

This may have been reported in any of the 13 previous pages (is it possible to search, within a specific thread???) ...

A weird thing occurred during a COOP game:
- I joined the server when the mission was already running (= join-in-progress).
- All was well and I could join and play the mission
- At some point I was suddendly ... "transferred" into another players "body". I could see everything and switch view but I could not control the player.
The "actual" player still had control.
- When I typed text in the chat window it appeared as if it was written by the player whose "body" I was inside of. i.e. It didn't show "ALDEGA: yap yap yap", it showed "TheActualPlayers'Name: yap yap yap".
- My "own" player was still alive
- When I hit the ESCape key and clicked "respawn", my "own" player was killed. (as it is supposed to). No AI were left to respawn into, so I don't know what would have happened.

Hi remember me? I'm the guy running an ATI x850 xt pe with no graphic distortions.....

well for all you unlucky ATI people out there, I **might** have found a fix.....

I was tweaking my system as I usually do every now and then. Wohoo!

Anyway, I downloaded this freeware called Advance System Optimizer.

Had a play about, and I found an option not enabled called "Enable Large system Cache" - I could'nt resist so I enabled it. Restarted the machine and tried to play Arma....

Well well well, as soon as the map loaded I had the exact same graphic distortions as all the previous screenshots showed.

I rebooted again just to make sure something else was'nt interfering, and the same distorted results.

Back into ASO and disabled it, and low and behold ArmA is back to no graphic distortions and plays fine (apart from CTD during weapon select and breifing)

So here's a possible fix for you guys, you might have ran a tweak program in the past and had no adverse effects. But I suggest downloading this program, and make sure the "Enable large system cache" is disabled.

If it is enabled, disabled it and try arma, hopefully you'll be able to play.

If it is already disabled, enable if, reboot, try arma, if you get the same graphic distortion, disabled it again and reboot and pray http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif

Remember you have to reboot the machine to make sure its taken effect.

And now the faults begin.....

1/ I would love to see either the ping or from which country the Host is located in as I'm sick of losing connection.

2/ To be able to kick players off as I've just encounted a kid(brat) spawn killing his own players.

3/ More accessible buildings as there are currently none! Quote:"New island containing large cities with many different, fully accessible buildings".....What? Did they mean there is a corridor you can walk through the building which is called "fully accessible"? I'd love to snipe/shoot off balconies and rooftops!

4/ Pilots to have better AI. But on a good point, I was sniping from the top of a tower thinking the AI would be too stupid to climb the ladder. Lo & Behold....I was shot in the back by the enemy who had climbed the tower. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif

Why dit you realise mp demo first? Why not SP first?

And like many more the game is crashing randomly. The .exe encountered a fault; crash to desktop

also weapon selection is really slow in demo and its laggy ass hell wane I finally kild same one?

Also think the crashing randomly have to do whit inboard sounds card the game last longer wane I turn
off hardware acceleration in sound settings off but its not solving the problem like in eve-online http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

There some more but think that is having to whit my lack off skill

Complete computer noob question.
I've checked the minimum requirements (http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_System_Requirements), where it states that ATI Radeon 9500 with 128 MB of RAM & Pixel Shader 2.0 or better is the minimum for a graphics card

My card is a 9200 series, would it be below minimum requirements?
Sorry, I know it sounds dumb, but I have no idea how the listing works.
Also, what is Pixel Shader 2.0 ?

Your video card doesn't match the minimum requirement. You need at least a ATi 9600 series video card w/ SM3.0 to run the game.

You can look at the player list (P by default) while in game to review their stats and kick/ban them.

Glad to see the Demo out. However having one thread for trouble shooting is really messy. Why not have a section so we can sort out the problems in sections like video, network and so on?

So I am having a network issue. I have looked at the FAQ and the Wikki which were of no help.

If I host a game there are no problems the game starts and shortly there are other players in the game and off we go. If I use the "game browser" AKA the GameSpy it's a different story. Some server I try to join I don't even connect and drop back to the game browser with some sort of connection error. From reading here in the forum that seems to mean I was joining a non-Demo server (again why I am even allowed to see these servers and why they are not automatically filtered is an oversight).

So I find a server that seems to let me connect. The first screen I see has all sorts of sections that look like they should have data regarding the players and teams but all the "boxes" in these sections are empty. The only things on the screen I can interact with is a Disconnect and a Join/OK button. Disconnect does what it should and takes me back to the Game Browser.

Also on this screen I see messages in the upper left that tell me which players are connecting, connected, disconnected, died, and once in a while I see a Global message from one of the players in the game. I use the "/" key to try and type messages which do show up on my screen but I am not sure the messages are being seen by the players.

So my last choice is to "Join". This will take me to some loading screens (sometimes) or else I go right to a receiving mission data screen which is all black with no progress bar and again I can see messages in the upper left corner just like the screen before. I wait and I wait. I have waited well over 10 minutes on this screen. With no indication that anything is going one. I do see my hard drive light going on and off so there is disk activity. Again I can type messages in the global channel and I have had conversations with others in game and others waiting for the game to load.

So now 95% of the time it just sits on this screen until I ALT-TAB out and kill the game via the Task Manager as trying to ESC out of the load screen does not work. The other 5% I move on to the loading data screen that looks EXACTLY the same as the screen before except the words have changed. Then MAYBE this will pass on to the game but most likely it just sits on this screen.

OK if I make it past those two screens the "game" goes something like this. I enter the game I can see my player model standing with rifle in hand and I have the message box telling me I am dead and a pithy quote to sooth my soul and the neato choices of Disconnect or some other option I don't remember (I have only seen this part like once or twice).

Then I somehow end up at the Mission briefing screen which has no mission text but I can see the names and pings of the other players and me in the far right side. I can even get to the screen that shows me the other gear avaliable but I am not able to change anything here. Going back to the screen I can choose to play or exit. If I choose play I can then see the topo map. Then often the cycle repeats where I join the game with my player model (looking very alive and GungHo with rifle in hand) but the message telling me I am dead, etc, etc. Then maybe after doing this fun loop about three times tops the game crashes to desk top with the usual send an error to Microsoft option.

So what to do? I have re-installed, turn off my firewall (though I hated to do it. AND why is the ports needed to run the game NOT listed in the FAQ or the Wikii??) with no change to the pattern.

As the game runs fine when I host the game I see no reason to list my specs as it's NOT a hardware issue of running the game. Something is hosed in the network side. I hope a patch is planned for the Demo as it is not making me want to buy the game.

Thanks for reading if you have read this.

I find that more and more games store there profile in this dir..

BTW I seem to have a similar problem. I have to delete my profile everytime I want to play or I get a CTD on loading the game demo. It's quite maddening to discover since it would play fine the first time I installed it. I figured this out by un-installing it and removed all the associated files and then re-iinstalling. When it worked I decided that the only changes that were made was to the profile; remove the profile and it works again.

Anyone else have this problem? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif

Thanks...vote to kick would be better as the Host could be on the other team and not care about an idiot helping him.

Another thing was....whilst playing the game, there are occasionally annoying voices &/or their mic is way too loud when using their mics. Is there a way to block the mic use so you don't have to listen to them? Found another 2 Bugs...

1/ Not a big deal, but when you depart a vehicle which is out of Fuel/Ammo, your character still stays in the red. Still the same as OFP which didn't get fixed then.

2/ CTF...behind where the US 5t Truck is parked, there is scaffolding leading to a rooftop. I went up there but couldn't get off again. Other rooftops you can just walk off. Because your weapons don't respawn(something in which should have a time limit), things like the AT3 will be left up there until the game ends.

Hi,

Am suffering terrible performance on my system with the demo.

Intel Pentium 840D @<hidden> 3.2 Ghz
XP Media Edition SP2 all up-to-date
EVGA GeForce 7950 GX 1G mem on 6.14.10.9371 nvidia drivers (and before someone chips in, yep I have enough power (700W), and stacks of cooling too)(in single display mode)
C-Media (5.12.1.8)
2048 M's DDR. matched pairs
DirectX 9.0c (latest update ('Dec 06 sometime)

I've tried every combination of setting imaginable (started on lowest and slowly worked my way up). Playing at 1024 res @<hidden> Perversely the game preformance improved as I increased the setting to v.high (excepting the shadows which bring everything to a grinding halt above low. I'd say I average 25-30 frames, but quickly fall off to 5-10 once the vehicles appear....

On the coop mission for 8 players everything seems just about playable until I get into town, when things get really choppy. In the larger 64 player maps things really go to pot - esp when i get into a chopper.

Questions are:
1) Why such a miserable performance? I think I exceed the mininum spec.... (no probs on any other games I have at running max settings (the old OFP with FFUR & max settings runs like a dream(ok except the terrain (hey who can run that at max with a full war?&#33http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif)

2) I usually have the nvidia control panel set for high preformance (also tried it at quality with no discernable dif in fps) I have the AA & AF set to 'Application', and vsync 'off': given that my pref actually seems to improve as I raise the AA/AF in game : is there any advantage in setting these via the control panel rathger than letting the game manage the settings?

3) Is the preformance of the game in demo directly comparable to the finished version? Or Am I hitting a wall from the dual core limitations of the game? (if so I'm scrapping any plans top buy the game)

Many thanks for any advice that doesn't cost me more money http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Great.
I am getting some securom error message, too. Never been able to run any of securom-ruined games. Hopefully there will be proper release from BIS, or somebody rips that bugger from the demo.

It would have been nice if it was noted somewhere that there is securom on the demo, so people don't waste time downloading almost 900 megabytes.

To anyone having the "can host but can't join" problem:

I haven't found a fix yet, but a rather peculiar anomaly - when I host a game on LAN from my laptop, my desktop can join without issue.

Sorry - it's still not a fix, but it is some new information.

Hi everyone, long time viewer first time poster.

I'm ok with the performance I get out of the game with my system,
but I seem to be plagued by frequent and random crashes to desktop.

These crashes typically happen when fiddeling around in various mp lobbys. Not in the actual game. Does anyone else have this?

And for the love of god BI, show me the ping times to servers in the serverlist instead of those damn blocks representing "connection quality" to the host.

Another question, the post-processing effects, you can set them to low, but is there any way to shut them off completely? My graphics card suffers too much performance from applying HDR effects.

The filter does not seem to work properly - when specifying maximum ping say for instance - 50, then go into the server and I'm pinging over 300 - is quite annoying.

Lots of games I try to join and is says it loses the session.

A few ctd for no particular reason.
When firing a minigun from chopper in cti it carries on showing that its firing even when I have stopped firing.

Sound goes pretty funny at times.

Settings are all on normal no aa no af, 1024x768.

Cheers
Sean

I Fixed My Demo Not Starting Problem

For me it was caused by my nForce2 drivers not being installed properly. When I went to uninstall my old nForce drivers I got an error message saying

"RUNDLL
--------
Error loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\NVINSTNT.dll
The specified module could not be found"

so I redownloaded the latest nForce2 drivers, installed them, uninstalled them and reinstalled them once more. The reason for the multiple uninstall/install was because you should always remove a driver before updating it, which I could not do initially.

anyway, hope some of you other guys can fix the "wont start" error with this info.

Make sure you update all your drivers :- reinstalling Windows is for the weak http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

Awesome! Is this new build fully compatible with the old build?

Is there a changelog somewhere?

Edit: The only change (according to readme) seem to be that now we can host dedicated servers with the new exe build.
I was hoping for more bugfixes, but this alone is great news!!

I've tested the crossfire with a fresh windows install and a new motherboard and it still has the same issue. They're both Asus boards but they have different chipsets. I think that this bug can be chalked up to bad video code or something, as crossfire doesn't depend on program support to run... it can however be broken at the code level, as some 'plays best on nvidia' programs have done in the past.

anyone else have the demo crash like all the time ? - demo bummed out to desktop at least 4 times each for the 6 members we had playing it last night in a 3 hour period.

.... wev'e narrowed down that its something to do with when people pick their kits form the group window and lag. - maybe two people pick the same item and the whole game falls over. -- everyone but the host crashes.

I have been waiting for this game over a year now and yesterday I downloaded the Demo and couldn't wait to try it out ! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif

I installed without any problems, and started the game right away. Looked at the Graphic settings "changed resolution from 800x600x32 to 1152x864x32" and continued to Multiplayer menu....

First thing I didn’t really understand was the Ping description. I mean what dose [][][], [][], [] and ! stand for? Hmm well at least I could choose maximum ping in Filter so “max 150”. Still all [][][], [][], [] and ! showing, so still no clew to the meaning of these…

Plenty of servers to choose between, although only few hade players on them. I found a CTF game with 7/14 players “so lets try that”. Double Click – Loading screen - !!!! BAM !!!! – Crash to Desktop with Error message… http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif

http://img82.imageshack.us/my.php?image=armaprobbl4.jpg

So, now I have been trying over and over again. Actually I did get threw the first loading screen 1 or 2 times, where you can see the other players etc. Then you hit Enter and its says “Sending data” and !!!! BAM !!!! Crash to Desktop with the same Error message…

I was so looking forward to this game, but I might as well forget it since it won’t run on my comp http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif

Dec 29 2006, 15:48

Edit: Typo.
That is possibly *the* coolest bug I have ever heard of.

Fragrag
Dec 29 2006, 16:58
Indeed, we need numbers instead of boxes. They're just too confusing. I joined a 3 box server that was in Australia and I live in Europe, no way the ping would even be under 500 but yet the game gave me 3 ticks.

I went into My Documents>AA Demo and if you open up the config (CFG) file and change FSAA=1; to FSAA=0; it APPEARS to help performance. I got no FPS readings before and after though to be sure.
There also appears to be a setting to lower the HDR, but that just keeps going back to default 8 so dont think that is changeable.

Firstly may I say thanks for the free demo, considering I am about to complain in a minute I think it's only fair to point that out.

I have an Securerom issue error (7000), if anyone has any practical workarounds to that issue I would be very intrested.

Secureom recommend downloading their files that re-arrange my registry, although they don't say how, but only that they don't guarentee the result.

Which is a pity because it's a working computer so I can't balls it up experimenting.

At least I know if Securom is on the UK release not to buy it I guess, although it works on my other computers fine.

By way of suggestion (here's my niggling complaint), would it be possible to have demo issues not all merged into one monsterous difficult to navigate thread.
I tried the search engine, which led me here, but still had to read through 16 pages of stuff only to find out that no one has posted a workaround to my issue.

Technical issues are very frustrating, as is the layout of this demo support. Apologies if it's made me grumpy.

i know, there's typos throughout the mission descriptions, CTD's, graphics glitches, and AI bugs. its all very unfinished.

im just hoping the demo isnt from the lastest build as i dont think the german version has as many problems.

pretty bad when you boot the game and spot a typo in the first 30 seconds though.

as demo's go its fun to play but my god, if i didnt know OFP already i'd never buy ArmA from that demo.

Ok, so my 6600gt is almost not relevent, i got over my anger about the insane min req for this game,i even almost got used to playing this on 800x600, while this card plays very well other titles. And this with no clear reason, i mean - u dont see any fancy geometric models, the cities have very simplistic bulidings, so i dont get it.

But what is worse is the coming and going (mostly going) of the textures, 1 sec the game is textured, a sec after it is totaly naked with wiered objects instead of everything, or just plain boxes and ground.

Dont think i will risk it with the full version.

"adapter=-1; " - minus one? this seems odd?

"localVRAM=527429632;" **- seems to only see half of the memory availible (ie only one card in the 7950 pair). I have the Nvidia control set to "hardware acceleration - single display mode" (is this the equiv in the classic control panel as "Multi-GPU mode" in the new control panel? (two instances of 7950 GX2 listed in the device manager)(the two seperate cards i imagine)

** *EDIT* ok I now know that this is normal & the reading is repeated in dxdiag. Damn, there has to be a reason why my pref is so poor....

Anyone any ideas - is the demo detecting my card incorrectly?

Actually it is version 1.03, full czech and german versions are 1.02. I have found that ArmA is much stable in some computers and crashing all the time in others...

I really hope BIS uses all of their resources to fix ArmA, otherwise it will be totally wasted in the means of business.

What Ori_b said is exactly what I'm having

I'm having a great time with the demo...I find it a lot of fun...I don't have many of the problems you listed so I don't know whats wrong with it...so unfortunately I can't help I don't have any FPS problems or anything

the problem I have is my game will be going fine...but all of a sudden for either a little bit or a long time my textures will go out...like the buildings will just be boxes and the people will look like stick people and the gun will look like a tube lol. the same problem Ori_b is having.

I have a 6800GT
1 gig of DDR Ram
Windows XP Pro with SP2 all updated
direct x9

but I definately meet the requirments..

and I have all my settings on the highest settings except for shadows I have on low.

if someone could tell me what to do *possible just change my video options around* so that my textures don't look stupid I'd appreciate it.

Other than my problem with the textures im not having any trouble with the demo =\

and I'll look for these other problems your all having and see if I can help any of you out? I'm not promising anything..but I'll try

Ohhh thanks =)

but what exactly would be best to turn down? Everything?

or just the anti-aliasing and stuff?

but none the less

in the demo I do see some AI glitches..and still a few graphics glitches *not just my texture problem*

but other than that nothing worse than that =\ no FPS drops or anything

So I don't know whats wrong with all of your versions sorry though =\ wish I could help.

but from what I hear the real game is more stable than the demo..but still has plenty of problems to be fixed =\

so I think I will be waiting a few weeks after its release or a month before I get it with hopes they fix the problems. *if it comes to the US that is*

but still a very fun game.

but again thank you for the help =)

It has been said by placebo that the first thing to go if you're running the game ons ettings that are too high for your system to support is the AI. I would recommend that you just turn everything down in incriments until it runs well for you and then start tweaking. There are many tweaking tips available on this forum.
