View Full Version : Bullet Fire and Flight Model in 1.02

Raz0rx
Dec 18 2006, 23:25
Hey.
Since patching my game to 1.02 today, i'm having trouble with firing (I've only tried firing prone and crouched as of yet).

Aiming directly on a guy, i'll fire (single shots), and not a single bullet hits where it's supposed to. Some even hit the ground, directly in front of me while i'm prone.

I have only tried this with a Silenced M4 Aimpoint, so far.

Also, the new flight model for the choppers is terrible.
There should be a way to turn your chopper left or right, as you see fit, for quick 180 turns, more precise aiming, etc. (imo, anyway)

I'll go test some more weapons soon.

[Install Order - for reference]

If you buy the game those problems should go away http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

EDIT: Sorry I shouldn't make that assumption but thats what it sounds like. I also read something similar on another forum.

1.Are you sure you not trying to shoot over a hill or uneven terrain and hitting the ground, because that happens to me all the time.
2. And the flight model still barley uses the rotor at high speeds looks like they will need a few more patches to fix the problem

I have the same problem as above. I bought the downloaded german version. Its patched from 1.01 to 1.02 then with 0.9v language patch. It aims great in sinlgle player missions and campaign, its just in the mp games.Like i said above its a legit copy, i paid $56.00 for.I sent metaboli email about this issue, and have seen quite a few people complaining about the same problem. One thing is i had to install the game about 3 times to get to work. The first time it asked after install for unique serial number, the other times it didnt, maybe thats the culprit.

Bullshit. I have the exact same problem, and I own a legal version of ArmA (CZ).

They used this sneaking "fade" mechanism for games which think that they are cracked or have a stolen cd-key. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

I don't want to imply that somebody here uses an illegal arma version, but maybe the copyprotection wrongly activates this mechanism on legal versions.

I think the main problem here is that you have applied an INOFFICIAL language pack. And you have installed an INOFFICIAL modification of the game. Both of which BIS has neither influence nor control over.

I recommend you de-install the game comletely - remove all modifications, and re-install the game again - patch it to 1.02 - and see if the error is persistant.

I don't know if this 'Fade' protection is a myth, but if it is not, it would be just logic to conclude that modifying game files might trigger it. No ?

Crap guess ill try it. Its just i cant read german..the only reason i bought it was because of the way you could change. If i knew it would look like its cracked er whatever after the to english mod, i wouldnt of wasted the money and waited.

Ok heres my story...

Two days ago I installed the patch, I played the game a little in single player mode and noticed that I couldnt seem to hit anything like before, but it was shortly before bedtime so I left it, I loaded the game the next day and it was still the same, so I looked on the forums here and saw this post, so im quite happy its not only happening to me, but sad its happening at all.

After reading Raz0rx saying that a reinstall fixed this I uninstalled the game, deleted the directory and installed once more, firstly checking to see if it was happening before patching, it was fine so I applied the patch and tested again, unfortunatly I wasnt as lucky as Raz0rx and my aim was all messed up, I then thought it might be the language patch I was using (I live in Germany but dont speak much German) so I uninstalled again and tried the game without the language patch, again the aim was off, so I took the game back to the store where they tested it on a machine they had in there, the aim was FINE on their system, so they wouldnt exchange it or give me a refund.

So here I am with a game I cant play that cost me 45 euros, and I guess im pretty upset, I dont know if its a bug, or if its the FADE protection going wrong but its very annoying, I cant play online with the 1.0 or 1.1 patch as everyone else is using the 1.2 patch which isnt compatible.

I saw that I should contact Morphicon but there are problems there.
1.It costs 70 cents a minute to get tech support, and I know they'll tell me to reboot, uninstall, reinstall and try all the things I've tried before, and I suspect its going to cost me around 20 euros of phone call to get me nowhere, and im not really prepared to pay this.
2.I dont speak enough German to be able to sort this sort of thing out.
3.If it is FADE going wrong, isnt this implemented by BIS and not Morphicon?

So going to them is not an option for me, obviously im quite angry about this, having to give up online play and miss out on bug fixes because of whatever is causing this isnt fair, the shop wont refund me because it wont happen when they test it and im at a loss as what to do.

A friend suggested that I could have a trojan or keylogger installed on my system and someone has stolen my cdkey, I checked my system with two programs and its free.

So far I've seen nobody from BIS address this bug and its kind of annoying.

Okay I see that the situation is not statisfying for any of you right now.

But let's not forget that only four people have reported this issue so far. That means it is a VERY rare phenomena, and reproducing it to find the cause might simply take some time. Check out the changelog of the last patches. basically all problems people reported have been addressed, or are currently worked on.

In the meanwhile, I suggest you report this bug on the Wiki ( if not already done so. )

@<hidden> robocheese

1. Email tech support is free.
2. You should be able to get tech support in english language by email. In case you don't, and need help translating the German email I'll be glad to help out.
3. I don't know anything about the protection mechanisms used by Bohemian. The DVD's are protected by Securom and Starforce as far as I know.

Well, there's definitely an issue if both supports, BI and Metaboli, tell you that it's the other one that should take care of your issue.
One of them should try to see clearly if it's an "activation" issue (maybe FADE related) or more usual tech support.

Did you guys read this thread? (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=68;t=55974;st=45)

Quote[/b] ]We do not support people using illegal copies of our games.

If you are experiencing this issue and purchased a legal version of the game then you should first make sure you have the game installed using the legally purchased CD Key, if the problem persists then you should follow the official support process as per the pinned thread with contact information.

Well I got an email back, it took forever but it actually came, unfortunatly it was useless, just asked me where I bought the game and if it was legal, I sent an email back with the detail straight away and im hoping this time I'll get a little more help rather than being accused of not owning the game.

Honestly, if I could return the game to the store I would have done it by now, but because the shop cant replicate the problem im stuck with a bug ridden game I cant play.

Oh also, Desertfox, I forgot to thank you for your kind offer, but it seems its not needed now, the English they spoke was not great but easy enough to understand.

Dec 22 2006, 09:24
Yep, add me to the list of people having problems with this. If you reinstall it and play on 1.01, the accuracy of weapons is a hell of a lot higher and it may be my imagination but my framerate seems to be better too.

So no one knows why this happens yet? Apparently it has to do with the copy protection then? Since they are asking you if it's legal.

What a silly way to try to encourage people to purchase it if they are currently using an illegal copy. "Yes, let's make them think the game is really buggy and crappy, that will teach them". I don't see the logic. Why not just not allow the game to run at all?

robocheese
Dec 22 2006, 13:32
I have to agree that IF it were the protection it would be VERY silly to do this but to be fair, I havent actually read anyone confirm its the protection going wrong as yet so I think its safe to say its a bug, but what I want to know is why does my copy do it on one computer but not the other? and when is it going to be fixed?

Still no update on the email im waiting for, the support for morphicon is awful, I can only guess they dont respond to email fast on purpose so people are forced to use the phone support so they can make more money. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif I wish I had waited for the English version to come out now, at least more bugs would be gone from the game.

jack_oneill
Dec 22 2006, 22:31

Wow, I got so tied up in flying the choppers that I never fired a shot until now. I am experiencing this same problem and tried reinstalling the game patched to 1.2 without the english language pack. I still got the same thing. I own a legal copy of this game (German Version) that was shipped from Germany to the United States.

Looks like I will just keep sticking to flying for now until a fix is made. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif Ooo, first foliage issues now this... For your problem, try shooting an object (wall, etc) from a range greater than 100m. If you have a shotgun pattern, then there's an issue. If not, you're just seeing the strange aiming properties of the engine.

As with OFP, in ArmA too, bullets do not emerge from the center of the screen or from the crosshair, but actually from your weapon barrel. This is only noticeable in close ranges, and if you switch to ironsight/optics view, you can clearly see where are you actually aiming, and that's the only way to be sure your bullets hit where you aim, especially in closer ranges. At ranges above 20-30 meters, you can rely on crosshairs more.

libertyordeath776
Dec 26 2006, 03:07
Exactly what im talking about, my bullets come out of the barrel up, down, left right. In the demo they fly straight and true.

If the bullets fly like in some arcade games (BF, CS, etc?) all around the place its defenetly the "fade" system, they used it in OFP and use it in ARMA also.

Only thing im aware of that causes fade in arma is that game was installed with a serial key that is banned, in other words taken from internet. These banned cd keys are updated with every patch, meaning that it doesnt matter if you are online or not, fade system can still figure out that your CD key is public as the patcher updated the list, even if the game worked perfectly before 01 or 02 patch.

Bullets from M16/Ak74 for example should hit pretty much exactly where you aim up to ~100 meters, if you cant hit a soldier at that distance even you know you are aiming right, you propably have something activating the fade.

Goldenwings2002, the image you linked seems fine to me, thats how it should work. Theres nothing strange there as far as i can see. The barrel points at hes hands, or hes head in the other picture, and it hits there. Remember the "reticule" that you see there has nothing to do with where bullets will land as its not supposed to be used for any aiming anyway. Hard to tell if theres anything wrong with fade tho as you need to shoot further away with the real sights if you want to hit something. This is supposed to be realistic, not another arcade action fps where the bullets hit instantly to the middle of the screen, you need to use the iron sights to see if its working as its supposed to http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

So, from what I gather, it's another example of copy protection gone wrong. Great, I look forward to playing an authentic simulation of starwars stormtrooper combat. That is if any U.S. publishers pick up the game... or change the copy protection to something less ridiculous. At least just prompt an error that tells you that you are using an illegal copy, rather than this "who designed my rifle, a caveman?" kind of crap.

Old OFP:Elite problem! (OFP for Xbox)

You go online and every now and again anouther player (In the same game) is controling half controling you!

I don;t think it has anyhting to do with CD keys, as Xbox games don't need them.

http://home.comcast.net/~thunderdesigns/Gallery/bulletfire2.jpg
The reason that happens is because your weapon is zeroed for a far greater distance than that. Your sights and the bullet trajectory form two lines, which means the line where the line of site and the bullet trajectory meets is where the bullet hits. For example:

And he said that he tried the demo and the aiming in the demo is fine. Only the retail game is affected. So he knows what he's doing.

Understand that BI themselves are a rather tiny company that absolutely cannot answer to every complaint sent at then single handedly. They're not UBI, they, unfortunately, don't have the customer service people for this kind of things.

Yea UBI is so much better at releasing bug-free games on PC with great customer service and fast patches http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif .

Have you played Rainbow Six Vegas on PC? Frequent crashes, checkpoint bugs, sounds that don't stop repeating in MP. If you go into the server browser and don't apply any filters (just set it to show all servers) then the game will simply CTD. The first patch for the game fixed an issue where you couldn't change the resolution http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif . ArmA doesn't touch that.

Splinter Cell Double Agent and GRAW also were pretty bad. GRAW is mostly patched up now, but it came to late.

I think that everyone experiencing this ammo dispersion "bug" sould post here their Player ID.

Player ID is not your cd key, you can find it under your profile (start Arma and edit your profile, ID is a 6-8 digit number)

I am 99% sure that only bad/banned IDs trigger that "bug".
Im hesitant to post such things, no offence to you but you're not staff at BIS nor Morphicon (who incedently have the WORST support I've ever heard of, my advice is dont bother buying anything from them because they wont reply to email because its free and charge out the nose for telephone support), thus im not going to post info, especially when BIS havent even bothered to make a reply about this problem.

I've learned a lesson here though, dont buy from BIS or Morphicon as they release buggy games and dont support you, they only want your money, I'm going to sell my copy and give up on this game if its not fixed in the next patch to be honest, why should I have my time wasted by companies that simply dont care about their customers?
Because they care, perhaps?
Understand that BI themselves are a rather tiny company that absolutely cannot answer to every complaint sent at then single handedly. They're not UBI, they, unfortunately, don't have the customer service people for this kind of things.
Tbh OFP has been the game with one of the best "following" by its developers I've seen so far, patches were released looooooong after game was launched, and BI still supported their product years after.

They read the forum, remember all the whining about the flight model? The next patch it was improved. It has always been like this (in case you werent around in the 'OFP time' ), but they cannot post here in every tread and try to help you, but if you provide enough information you give them the ability to do something about it in the next patch.

If Morphicon is ignoring you it is not the fault of BIS...

Careful Universel, you might get banned for talking about a registry "banned" key for "test" purposes.

Also, I wouldn't post a "virgin" playerID because you never know what the cheaters can do with keygens these days. They just might be able to create something off your player id and then you'll really be screwed.

It seems there was nothing wrong after all. This gun fire spread only happens in CQB (1-10m). If I use the iron sights at any distance, all is great.

Protection software, pirated cd-keys and IDs should not be discussed here, thread name is pretty clear, stick to it.

Ahhhh finally some confirmation that its a bug and not protection then! thats all I've been waiting for!

@<hidden> : Not its not the fault of BIS if Morphicon ignore me, but its the fault of BIS if BIS ignore me, but its all good now as at least someone from BIS has confirmed this is a bug and not the protection, I'll wait till the next patch because the game is utterly unplayable at the moment, but if its not fixed then im going to sell my copy, as theres no point in having a game which has a bug that stops the game from being usable.

I wouldn't put that in the description when you sell it. Not neccessarily the best bit of advertising http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Well people after playing for a while now, it seems only some weapons give me a problem. Also it seems to only be when im zoomed. When i use the reg onscreen white crosshairs it seems ok for the most part. Its wierd. The m24 gives me the most problems. I shoot best with the saw and ak-74 silenced.Im baffled really. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif
