have the German download version of the game and when i try to install the 1.02 patch it gives me errors saying files are incorrect:
Error found in file AddOns\air.pbo (ec5156w2!=65412011)
Error found in file AddOns\buildings.pbo (04d06910!=10e4d4f8)
Error found in file AddOns\Anims.pbo (b247ef93!=7488334a)
ArmA: Armed Assault: Updating version 1.01 to version 1.02...
Some error occurred during patch installation.
Patch file is probably damaged. You may need to download it again.
Error in file ADDONS\air.pbo, phase 1.
I saw 1 other thread that mentioned something similair but that person had a crashed copy of ArmA still running in the background, i do not.
What can i do??
I've tried, completely uninstalling the game, made a fresh install, in a fresh folder, and the patch still says the same thing.

Did you apply the English patch prior to installing 1.02?

Hey you guys, I dont think you can update the download version of Armed Assault. There is some other ways of updating. I would suggest you dont rush at trying to install the patch. I too have the downloaded version. waiting for instructions of how to update it.

I think you're correct. IIRC, StarForce protected games require a specific patch to update the necessary drivers when the game files are updated. Since the retail boxed version, and the downloaded version contain different copy protection schemes, it seems sonly reasonable that seperate patches are needed.
EDIT:
Of course this didn't seem to apply to 1.01. So....

Renegade, I had the same problem than you but somehow I've just been able to patch it. I think the patch is universal, for all version. I ended up un-installing the game, deleting the BIS folder and rebooting. The English patch no doubt altered some of the files.
I ended up re-installing after fresh reboot, didn't start Arma and it patched successfully. *BUT ATTENTION: IT TOOK A LONG TIME TO PATCH, AND FOR MANY MANY MINUTES THE TASK WAS SHOWING AS 'NOT RESPONDING' - Be patient, it'll eventually pop up and say it was patched successfully. I'm now able to play it, except it's in German. I have to see if the *english patch*(thxs Sickboy) is out.
You may want to contact Metaboli and request a new serial now, as they take awile to respond. Good luck!!

Hmm, patches normally overwrite any previous files. I do see how the English patch could conflict with said alteration. Any altered files should normally just be replaced with new ones included with the patch.
I'll wait and see if your solution fixes the problem.

I have morphicon Ger-download version 1.01 of Arma (clean, no language patches etc modifications or addons)
When installing the ger-patch 1.02 I get errors in:
ca.pbo
weapons.pbo
air.pbo
...when i skip those files the patch-program says something = "patch file corrupted...bla bla" and download it again, done that and no go.
Must be something that downloaded version requires own patch...
Gonna buy the eng-box version when it´s released...42€ wasted
Looks like some others have same problem.

You got it to work by reinstalling , which problem? problem with cd-key or those "corrupted files" errors? (ca.pbo weapons.pbo etc)?
...hope it´s the last option.

Yep, there´s defenitely a glitch in the morphicon downloaded version 1.01 of ArmA:
I even REINSTALLED Windows and then installed Arma 1.01, after that tried to install patch 1.02 and I STILL GET THIS:
------------------Patcher window------------------------
Verifying ArmA: Armed Assault, version 1.01...
Error found in file Campaigns\ca.pbo (96f6ae05!=8014cea0)
ArmA: Armed Assault: Updating version 1.01 to version 1.02...

Patch file is probably dammaged. You may need to download it again.
Error in file CAMPAIGNS\ca.pbo, phase 1.

File D:\ArmA\CAMPAIGNS\CA.PBO.tmp: bad checksum: 242038073 (expected=242038078)
--------------------------
I´ve downloaded the patch 2 times and tried = no help.
Let´s hope morphicon addresses this issue soon...and for example makes Arma (patched 1.02v allready)available as a downloaded version...man this sucks!
There goes those 3 cd-keys...1 installation left.

Thats not how the patches work for ArmA, the patches 1.01 and 1.02 update some pretty huge PBO files which is why the install takes awhile.

I've got confirmation from two of the 16AAers that their download version has patched correctly, they did the following:
Uninstalled the language patch
Patched to 1.02
Used new language patch
- all worked.
Failing that, the uninstall, reinstall then patch also worked.

I have got exactly the same problem as the first post, all the.pbo files come uo listed as having errors,I've tried every combination of install/patch/reinstall you can think of
This is not limited to the download version mine is the german DVD version!
Don't bother trying to d/l from different locations for the patch or a new d/l copy of the game its clearly a bug in the 1.02 patch . Why it works for some and not for others - who knows, perhaps the people who tested this patch also tested BF2142 patches http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif

Its simple..
the patch needs the original, not edited pbos to patch.
It can only overwrite those... so what you have to do is to put them back up. From the DVD for example.
Just make sure the original pbos are in the folder and the patching will run smooth.
For those who do not have the DVD option, I will host the right pbos on the buyarma.com server in a minute.

Just doing a new install did not work, as I have said, with patch 1.02. But following your advice and extracting the .pbo's from the DVD using winzip did - first attempt got rid of a lot of the error .pbos but not all so having backed up the addons directory I re-extracted with winzip the remaining ones the patch was still not happy with and PRONTO! it worked.

Update:
TO YOU ALL!!, it must be a bug in the german patch 1.02!!! For someone patching goes ok and for some it won´t succeed.
Got a working CA.PBO file and tried to patch and here is the result:
(thought my orig. ca.pbo was corrupted, but no.)
Error found in file Campaigns\ca.pbo (96f6ae05!=f5dbf2e2)
Nothing to do but to wait for metaboli to give some solution for the problem.
So don´t waste those installation licences like I did...only 1 left.
Pity, such a great game fucked up by lousy and buggy patch-making.

I got the same errors with the pbos when patching to 1.02. My game still works though, although i don't think it actually updated to version 1.02 because it says it's version 1.01.5094.
I have the downloaded version. Kindof afraid to update again;/
EDIT: I just reinstalled the game and applied patch 1.02 and it now works fine.

Even the patch files have problems being applied!
This is strange indeed.
I have the Morphicon DL version and the patch worked fine. I had modified addons all over but not all were backed up so I reinstalled and patched to 1.02 with no problems. Then applied the german to english patch.
I got the file Arma_GermanPatch_102.zip here

I seriously doubt there's anything wrong with any of these patches...people just get lazy.
If it doesn't work for you, uninstalled Armed Assault, re-install, and then use ONLY the patch 1.02. It will more than likely work, so give it a try. Also, this patch takes around 10 minutes, as stated in the readme to work on some PC's. Give it time.
...people just get lazy.
Excuse me? I see nothing lazy in trying to install any ordinary game-patch and then finding that it doesn't work as advertised.
i mean how hard is it to install a patch? i also guess that many people here have done that many times before. and i'm pretty sure most of them are aware of the issues involving modified files...
don't go calling people lazy just because it works for you and doesn't for them http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/icon_rolleyes.gif

Re-installing the ****ing game about 5 times and trying to get this patch to 'work' isn't being lazy I asure you. I did sort it in the end thanks to JumpingHubert 's tip (on page 2 of this thread) on unzipping the .pbo's from the DVD into the addons folder of the v1.0 install using winzip . Why that worked I don't know but I appreciated his helpful post, unlike some I could mention.

This is bullshxxx !
Ive read people re-installed their windows partition to get rid of this problem.
And I formyself spent several hours trying to help ubernoob out and it didnt work out.
He had the 1.01 download version... ca.pbo had a problem being patched although it was NOT modified by no means !
So just in case I sent him my own ca.pbo of version 1.01 (DVD version 1.00 patched to 1.01) and we had exactely the same filesize and it still didnt work...
And for calling people lazy.. I had my 1.02 running smooth, uninstalled it, installed 1.00, patched to 1.01, sent him the file and patched to 1.02 again.

I've tried uninstalling, deleting the directory, cleaning registry stuff with ccleaner, restarting and reinstalling but nothing works. What do I do? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif On a reinstall those files aren't there (although they should be, right?), a friend even sent me his mpmissions folder and they're not there.
One thing I've noticed is that when I reinstall, the missions that I've made in the editor somehow reappear, and I think this is causing the problem - but alas, I have no idea how to fix it - any clues? Any help would be much appreciated.
Edit - Just to clarify with the missions - I deleted my user ArmA folder in My Documents before I reinstalled as well (backed it up though), but upon reinstall some missions I made will magically reappear in my ArmA/missions folder in Program Files, even though I deleted my BIS dir before reinstalling.

I have the downloaded version and when I tried to apply patch 1.02 it didn't fully update (It gave me a lot of .pbo errors), but it would still let me play normally. Although, the campaigns suddenly disappeared and I could not play them.
To fix it, I just simply uninstalled the game, deleted all the folders for it, and reinstalled it. I also noticed that when I reinstalled, I didn't have to re-enter my activation key (required for Dl'able version). So just uninstall the game, delete all the old folders, and reinstall it. Once it's re-installed apply patch 1.02. If it still doesn't work, download the patch from another location and try it again.

There are now few more topics concerning patching problems.
My problem still persists, the patcher 1.02 still fails CA.PBO...no way around it.
I even formatted my hd and reinstalled operating system + installed only essential system drivers (chipset & disp.drivers) there were no interfering programs (daemontools , alcohol ...NOTHING )
Then installed Arma on 20GB empty partition made entirely just for the game...run patch and result = error!
Tried also in safe mode = error!
Installed game also on my notebook = error!
Maybe the problem is in morphicon DL-version or maybe in the patch...sent mail to metaboli support, hope they don´t tell me = "..please uninstall game and try again..." AARGH!

I think the download option is crap ....
Just because we are living in 21st century it doesnt mean that everything should be done online... To download a 4.7 GB instalation.
Come on people... a game belongs on a CD/DVD and this way you have noch 3 licenses and no problems.
Id suggest you order the game from some source and consider this download thing as a bad experience.

the thought of my solution is to place manually the data from DVD or downoaded source to their folder of the installed version. If you have problems with addon folders you have to transfer the addon-zipp to the addon folder of the installed game (and so on). When it dont work with the downloaded version than I dont know what to do.

That´s it...got official confirmation from metaboli concerning downloaded version and patch 1.02 = not compatible!
check yourself:

Come on people... a game belongs on a CD/DVD and this way you have noch 3 licenses and no problems.
Id suggest you order the game from some source and consider this download thing as a bad experience.

Gee and you don't have an ulterior motive at all for saying that do you?
If you have nothing constructive to offer this thread then you shouldn't be posting in it, people should only post in troubleshooting threads if a. they have the same problem or b. they have a solution to suggest.

I have the exact same problem as the original poster, is there any official confirmation on this and when its going to be fixed?
Or are we stuck here in un-updateable limbo
This is the response I got from support:
"Dear Sir,
The 1.02 patch is a retail patch and is not compatible with the download version. This is the reason why you are encountering problems as the retail version uses a different protection system and installing it changes the game files. If you are unable to play the game please uninstall Armed Assault and then re-install it without it installing the 1.02 patch
We will be sending a link in a mail next week so that you can update your game to latest version."
I've also read that people with 64 bit OS,like me, are having the most problems.

No idea who that "support" person was but the information you received is incorrect, the patch we released is for both the retail and download German versions, the only people to our knowledge having problems installing the patch are people with 64bit windows, and even for them if they install the patch when in windows safe mode it should work.

Mostly, but people with 32 bit OS have reported the problem as well, so it can't be put down to a 64 bit problem.

According to Bohemian there should be no trouble installing this patch on the downloadable version of ArmA. That's all we know, really.

I have now also tried the final "fix" that has been presented to me here on the forums which i can do.
That is, installing the game on a 32-bit O/S system then copying the files over. I have tried this and i get the SAME error on my 32-bit laptop, that i get here on my 64-bit O/S desktop.
So now what do i do? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/help.gif
IM sure everyone knows the answer to this by now but !!
THE GERMAN DOWNLOAD VESION DOES NOT NEED TO BE PATCHED UP TO 1.01 IT IS ALREADY VESION 1.01.
However Version 1.02 Can be used without the SecuROM promblem So DL it and patch away (I used the version form the Mophicon Link)
Remember also if your using the English-German Text Patch to revert your files to the Originals which should be backed up into a file called Patchwise.bak (so long as you actually made the back up; which is done by default. Or else youll need to reinstall before patching up) Once you have patched your DLed version of ARMA to 1.02 you can then DL and install and 3rd patry patches such as the latest version of the German - English patch.(Which are of course not endorsed by Bohemia or any other official parties at this time)
If your problem is that the patch simply wont actually execute and not that your patched version is giving you SecuROM issues then the answer is likely one of three things (in my Humble opinion)
A: You need to free up more Diskspace inorder to run the patch (most patches on most PC applications require some space on your HDD to temporarially write files to your disk whilst executing)
B: Your Downloaded version of the Patch is Corrupted or incomplete - Try redownloading from another place and running again.
C: Your Ram is damaged and is therefore corrupting information as it process it. This problem is sometimes very hard to spot as your pc may be functioning in an otherwise stable fashion. There are various ways of identifying this problem more accuratly such as using RAM testing programs.
I tried the patch that was provided to me in a link in an e-mail sent to me from Metaboli.
It doesn't work. The same error remains. I replied to the message as such and am waiting for their response.
The fact is, I don't care what the problem is, I bought the game and I would like to play it.
For me to install the game on another machine to patch it, and bring it back to this one is just crazy. Not that I won't do it, but to go to such extremes is not my idea of fun.
Edit: And no, it's not my system that has issues. I've run Sisoft Sandra Porofessional on it and checked everything.

We dont care if it works for you, it doesnt work for us, and if people would read the thread they would see we have all done just about everything, including some people who have re-installed windows.
There have been some "fixes" posted in this thread, installing on a 32-bit O/S then copying it over etc etc
None repeat NONE of them have worked for me, and a good few others so unless you have either a fix or a link to a new patch which solves the issue, dont post.
After rereading what the original problem was i think i gotta say i think your ram is Busted or not functioning correctly. Had the same thing trying to patch Dawn of War a while back.
If you can get hold of some other ram try wacking that in and running the patch betcha it works first time.

I use the german physical CD version.
Installed ARMA on my game rig, patched 1.01 then 1.02 all ok. Patch files was unzipped with built in XP zip.
Copied my patch file to a CD.
Installed ARMA on NoPryls game server.
Unzipped the patch file after copying them from my CD to the HDD, with XP build in unzip.
Patched 1.01 ok
Patched 1.02 the error struck. I pressed Ignor to let the patch process finish.
The error msg was the same as mention several times in earlier posts.
Did a unistall
Did a install
Patched 1.01 OK
Backed 1.01 files up in a seperate folder.
Applied 1.02 patch - and then the error struck. I choosed to press the abort button.
Copied back the ca.pbo file(s), both to be sure. Downloadet a new version of the 1.02 patch from morphicon.de. Came back after 30min, in the meantime I browsed this forum.
Download monitor windows was gone, did a reset - boot. (I did not switch off the power "hard reset")
Unpaked the patch with latest winrar (no error - unpacking) But the patch.exe file reported it was corrupted. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif Why this did happend I don't know, since the download window was closed. But it could have been a timeout error?
Copied my old 1.02 patch in, used winrar (first time I used XP built in inzip), unpacked the patch file.
I started the patch - but no LUCK.
My Arma version is the CD version, and this prove that the problem do apply to both version CD & DL.
Both XP versions is 32bit. The HW is pretty new, no OC and quality RAM from OCZ.
So no deddy from NoPryl yet.
Hi guys....I've been following this thread for a while. Is there any chance Antivirus or Security Suite may be effecting this?
I've seen that this problem appears random with people downloading from the same place. Some systems are simular, some are not. This is just a guess but maybe the
darn thing is just being messed about by that?
I was able to upgrade, however I moved it back to 1.01 because at that time it appeared that this patch wasn't made for us with the downloaded version. Placebo had posted earlyer and says it should work.
Just a thought....maybe someone could disable and try that?

I have the downloaded German version.
I also had patched it with the unofficial English language conversion.
The 1.02 patch will not work if you have the english language version installed.
Through Control Panel, I uninstalled the entire game and reinstalled my downloaded copy.
I then patched it to 1.02 and it works fine.
Now I am just waiting on an update english language conversion http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif

Exactly Ruckus, why can't people read the thread before posting a so called "fix" which has been posted on atleast one occasion before
I was messing about trying to cause this patch problem and I was able to create it repeatedly at least in my situation. I have the downloaded German version.
As it has been mentioned before if you have used the german to english patch, you need to move it back to the unpatched
condition before you update the game. The first time I did this I copied the files individualy that the German/English patch changed and placed them in the proper folders individualy.
This last time I just copied the list of folders and pasted them to the ArmA folder(as the german/english patch recreates a copy of them and saves the effected files), which in reality does the same thing. I would have assumed this would be ok as it asked if I wanted to overwrite the other files.
I don't know if anyone else had replaced the files in this way, but it seamed to cause the problems with the .pbo's or the folders that the Updater was complaining about, and it suggested to reinstall from the CD.
The update may be looking at the properties of the folders as well as the files themselves.
I Reinstalled the game and Updated the game to 1.02 with no problem. I then tried the same sequence of events as before and was able to recreate it again.
I don't know if this will solve it for everyone, as there are several problems being seen, however the problem in my case was self inflicted as others may find.
Bottom line as mentioned before, you have to put the game back to the origonal German install condition prior to updating. Copy the files individualy to the proper folders then update.
I hope reading of my mistake helps someone out.
@<hidden>, Did the support people ever get back to you since your other post? I know this must really be frustrating for you. Sorry if I missed it but in your case did skipping the German/English patch all together give you the exact same results?

My final resolution to this problem, and the problems themselves
Problem 1 - CRC Error
This was caused by TWO corrupted download attempts.
I downloaded the 2 part german file for the third time, and when i installed the patch i got no CRC error, but i did get the sara.pbo error.
Problem 2 - Windows XPx64
For whatever reason Windows XPx64 and ArmA don't bond very well when it comes to sara.pbo, i followed the instructions of the other thread and booted into safe mode and XPx64 found sara.pbo and installed the patch succesfully.
So the meaning of this rather long story is that Metaboli should put a CRC check in their download, and that safe mode is yer best bet for XPx64, i may have been able to solve this earlier, but i seem to be either the only one, or one of only a select few who had both problems, rather than one or the other.....bloody typical
Thanks for all the help http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif

I could be a hardware related problem with the patcher.
(chipset, hd-model, ram, cpu oc´d, even winxp language version...etc)
Or the proctection system is messing up the patching, clearly they should renew the patcher entirely...too many people are having errors.

ArmA was installed to another PC which the family used.

My PC:Athlon64X2 4200+(DualCoreOptimizer installed), RAM 2G, Geforce 7800GT, SATA HDD120G
At the time of installation end something error came out, but forcing ending installation process, after that it made the patch apply.
After, copied the content of the folder entirely in own PC.
Various causes such as the relation and device driver of OS and CPU(Dualcore or Singlecore) are thought, but it is about you do not understand after all well,…
