what kinda language will be used? personally i think it would a half and half of russian and english. this is something avon lady brought up and thought it would be interesting to talk about check out this site she posted here (http://www.lunarrepublic.com/info/media/index.shtml)
Well.. assuming more than one country colonizes it. it will be just like the earth.. if your colony came from say Britian.. then you would have british laws and speak english.. from spain.. etc..
makes sense to me...

I think it would be more of a science type place....not many civilians there......
We are not talking tara forming (spelled wrong)....it's not star trek "you can see lake Armstrong from earth"

Quite obviously it would be a Monarchy. President of the moon? No that doesnt sound right.
KING of the moon? you bet
If any type of "permanant" settlement does take place on the moon.. I would think it would be an international group of scientists.. I dont think there is much that could be done on the moon to make anyone want to LIVE there (visit maby, but not live)...

I think that if the Earth became overpopulated, and if we had the technology, we would start putting people on the moon.
There might be different national colonies in different locations, American, Russian, German, etc.
I would like to visit the moon, it would be cool to see the Earth from way out there and jump around in 1/6th gravity.

Mars would be the most ideal place to setup a colony. Use the moon as a giant refuse/waste site

Well the next earth type place will be mars.....maybe the moon will serve as a rally point to mars......
we could populate it with our criminals and declare it a "state" belonging to earth and they have to pay taxes.....they would riot and declare it to a kingdom.
this would lead to a short star-war/indepence war and in the end we would have a new evil empire we could bitch about instead of usa.
i say...go for it! http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I fancy the idea...........except that I'm getting fond of having USA as an evil enemy. Besides, it wouldn't be any difference at all. I'm not saying all americans are criminals rather than stressing the fact that they have allready planted the flag up there. So - in case of a legal dispute over property - I guess the americans will see it as their own!

I think the moon should be divided up kinda like the antartic especially giving australia a really big bit. I say it would be a neo type communism cause every one on the moon would be working for the goverment although the goverment's country on earth will be capitolist & there would also be no civillians on the moon ............ except for the rich ones. As for naming the ship, i will get back to you all on that
I fancy the idea...........except that I'm getting fond of having USA as an evil enemy
yea, the US is the right kind of 'evil enemy' to have .. give ya money, help protect yer country's interests.. and then sit back and let you berate it and call its people idiots,.. . I wish I had an enemy like that http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
it would be nice to have an evil empire that pays 1/4 of all the costs of the international orginazation of 16 countries.. one of which being yours, while you call its people greedy, then send more troops in to the conflicts that orginization has to participate in than any other 2 countries combined.. while you say its soldiers are inept.. then when its over you can make fun of it for any and every little mistake it made during the entire process.... it must be wonderful to have the US as an evil enemy...

The post was meant as a joke. I have nothing particular against americans in general. The foreign policy is another matter though, but having said that I will also include my own countries' foreign policy which really is no better (well, slightly perhaps - but not much).
You see, I like americans as much as I like anyone else whatever the colour of their skin, ethnic origins, or nationality. I have a problem with liking Saddam though.
By the way - US doesnt provide my country with money. We have more than enough allready. And ever since the cold war we have actually helped protecting your interests as well. I have never called you or any other american idiot(s), because I have no reason to (even though Bush & Aschroft are beyond any doubts).
There are more than enough evidence of what I have said in my earlier posts here on the forum.
Have a nice day - see ya!

Take a closer look wobble:
U.S. Criticized by Allies, Other Nations
The fall 1995 opening of the United Nations General Assembly revealed a high level of frustration with the United States withholding of its dues for the United Nations.
Great Britain. Noting that "The U.N. system will never work if we do not fund it properly," and that the "U.N. is on the verge of financial collapse," British Secretary of State Malcolm Rifkind announced his country's view that there should be penalties for non-payment, recommending a policy of "no representation without taxation" as punishment for the lack of funding by members of the United Nations.
Canada. The Canadian Foreign Minister, Andre Ouellet, called on all U.N. Member States to pay their dues in full, on time, and without conditions. He said Canada "cannot accept that Member States, some of which rank among the richest countries in the world, fail to meet their financial obligations to this institution. This is even more difficult to accept when we consider that a number of the poorest countries in the world meet their payments in full and on time."
Australia. In a speech October 2, the Australian Foreign Minister Gareth Evans ridiculed the fact that more people were employed by Disneyland than by the United Nations, and that the costs of U.N. peacekeeping were less than that of the New York City fire, police and corrections departments. He pointed to the United States, stating that "the problem of paying for the U.N. has now become critical because of the unwillingness, or inability, of so many of the member states (including the biggest of us all) to pay their assessed contributions -- not withstanding that the cost of these for the major developed country contributors works out at between $7 and $15 per head per year, the price of no more than one or two movie tickets in this city."
Article here:
http://www.clw.org/pub/clw/un/uncrisis.html
My country has met all their obligations as agreed in peace keeping operations as well as economic contributions. UN actually owes Norway money for the expences of peace keeping operations!
There are more americans than there are norwegians. So you SHOULD also contribute more!

Actually, it is. However it is moving VERY slowly. It has moved about 1 foot away since Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon in 1969.
Our days are also getting longer.
We know that the moon causes tides, right?
Well, the ocean water on the Earth bulges about 1 metre on both sides of the Earth at any one time, this is due to the gravitational affects from the Moon and Sun.
This "bulging" water acts like a giant set of brake pads on the planet. To compinsate for the slowing rotation of the Earth, the moon moves away as the Earth turns slower.
This is what keeps the moons rotation in perfect sycronization with that of Earth. Thats why we never see the opposite side of the moon. It is a perfect balance.
Cool stuff.

You don't want to know what I REALLY think about the U.N.
The U.N. is innefective, all of the money in the world could not straighten it out. Politicians and Buerocrats get in the way. (I am mainly talking about the peacekeeping aspect here.)
Try telling the 100,000+ dead in the former Yugosalvia or the 900,000+ dead in Rwanda that the U.N. is the least bit effective.

I largely agree, but then again UN is allready there as a vehicle for future benefit - if only it could be rationalized a bit - a lot actually!

I probably should have stressed this a little more: I have no problem with U.S. doing whatever they do around the world with theit big armies and bullying politics. I understand that anybody with so much power will use it only to further their own agenda. This is how the world works and this is how I personally would probably also act. Evil and greedy is okay with me.
What I despise, however, is the fact that U.S. tries to justify its actions with some benevolence crap. So I keep pointing out shit U.S. does so that somebody from the land of the proud and free would just say: "Fuck you, we MOSTLY do this shit because we PROFIT from it and not because we are so goody-good."
Hence I have no problems with having a high-tech spacecraft U.S. scrapped because of a moronic president as my avatar. X-33, rest in peace. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
And about aid to foreign countries. I'm pretty sure that if you calculate foreign aid given per capita, U.S. is not nearly the biggest giver.

I'll agree with Rogue on this one...
It will be mainly scientific, most likely controlled by the military at least for the first decade or so. It most certainly won't be monarchy, or capitalistic (you have to have supply/demand and consumers to have that). I highly doubt any civilians not associated with the military or scientific research will even be allowed up there for some time....hmmm...maybe the new Area 51 (no pesky people snoopin' around).
I would also guess that it will be mainly (at first) be Russian and American colonies. Then maybe Chinese (who have already stated they plan to send someone to the moon in a few years). Europeans will come in eventually.
Just my opinion
</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (Oligo @<hidden> Feb. 01 2002,08:38)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Hence I have no problems with having a high-tech spacecraft U.S. scrapped because of a moronic president as my avatar. That and the fact that the X-33 was becoming a corporate welfare program with little prospect of success, so cancelling it was a good move. If you think that stealing taxpayers money to fund corporations to develop spacecraft is a good idea then you should be more upset that they picked the Lockheed X-33 design over funding further development of the DC-X, which would almost certainly have produced a workable spacecraft rather than a multi-billion-dollar doorstop.
NASA, of course, is probably very happy because a cheap, reliable, simple to maintain spacecraft would put KSC out of business, with an associated multi-billion-dollar reduction in their annual pork supply.

Like, your asking what kind of republic it should be, I answered monarchy, but if it's supposed to be a republic it can't be that, (I may be wrong) a republic's got a president and a monarchy has a king or queen (monarch). You can't have both a president and a monarch...so to be correct you should have written "what kind of goverment should it be?"
Anyway...I think it would be cool to terra-form the moon, only it should be a place without viechles or anything, like a paradise that people could visit (and no I ain't one of those people who think we should go back to the stoneage to save the world etc.) like an enormous park with animals (ok maybe separation of the peacefull vs Dangerous animals would be to prefer) I think that would be cool, of course we would have to invent some cheaper way of getting there, I hardly think some ordinary person could pay enough to get a ride...
just my 2 cents
