In the process of converting this object pack from VBS1.
These will be a part of an ARMA ISLAND which will be disclosed in the near future.

Im working on a full length feature about the Iraq war, and here you can see some little samples from the movie

http://www.youtube.com/user/djfrogstar

Basically in a nutshell these objects are for bringing an Iraq flavor to ARMA.
disclaimer
any vehicles you may see are either from VBS1 or OFP converted addons which should all be legit

just a sample of some stuff

Thanks everyone...

Alot of credit still goes to you DASQUADE for the making them functional and giving them the lighting technque and LOD work!!

And of course everyone in the TCW crew for testing and giving me the motivation. Thats been a big help!
Unfortunately the registered users will have to reregister again on the forum. but I will have a new build soon for beta testing...
still some things that need to be done in terms of normal mapping and just having the new tools so we can get them closer to final for arma

in one of those screenshots yes....but i was more showing the rock formations... the units are part of vbs1....

Im really hoping UK and AUSSIE forces are being made for ARMA, and of course US forces. Well actually german troops too!

my main mission is making a machinima based in iraq/afghanistan
and am more focusing on objects to be placed in the editor and for the IRAQ Island which is being developed by our team... but more of this will be disclosed very soon as I am not the only voice for this side of the project.

I do plan on making middle eastern civilian units and insurgents... but first we need the tools to even begin the production.

oh yeah thought id say it again...

we need the tools! until that happens we can only http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif

Heh, picture of that Iridium phone sparks up memories. Those things are utterly useless, 3/4ths of the time they don't complete the call and out of the times the call connects you can barely make out what the other person is saying and it eventually drops the call anyways forcing you to spend another 20 minutes trying to dial the person back. I'm not even talking extreme distance here, I'm talking no more than 35mi from Iridium to Iridium.

Oh, and the battery life was something terrible.

ok, so tested it and we now can have the valley of peace as an object to plop down in the editor.... I have to say its pretty scary cause you cannot see where the opfor are so easily, If you turn on the fog all the way and have it at night with nvgs it is almost imposible to do alone, or i am just terrible at playing.

Awesome job on the IED's. I was always wondering when someone would get around to making them. Just a second thought, and I'm not sure if it's possible. AI suicide bombers, for example. People you could select and add to your squad, have the BLUFOR see them as civilians, when they get within a kill distance of a BLUFOR, or BLUFOR vehicle they would detonate. Or even if need be, like haji uses over here back up detonators. Someone watching the bomber, and detonating the bomb themselves once the bomber is close. If either way worked, you could have these units in your insurgent squad and just send them off towards the BLUFOR. Also once the bomb has gone off, would it be possible to place scattered body aparts in the blast area? Walking up on some of these seens here, is like walking into a slaughter house. Just adds to the realism. Also for VBIED's, the vehicles usually ride slightly lower in the front, or rear depending on where the bomb is. That would be a nicely added touch. It might also give the player a chance to spot a vehicle out. Instead of getting blown up everytime. Since that would be un realistic, they dont always get us... Just some thoughts. Can't wait to see this stuff in game. Keep up the good work...

From the Kuwaitis that left them on the side of the road maybe?

I dunno, the guy in the market always said "My friend, I go to Baghdad and have it for you next week!" so I assumed there was a magic storage place or a pocket dimension or something in Baghdad.

basically in a nutshell, Smiley is putting together an iraq island. I will be helping with providing objects for him to use within the island. The Iraq object pack will be released publicly when the island is released. The objects will be released internally for members working on the movie project. ATM we are moving into beta phase with testing. When the tools come out, like i mentioned earlier all the extra mapping types will be added in...specular, normal mapping...
When this is all in place we will test again and again till its ready... and release the v1.0 possibly before the island is finished... But would like to avoid a constant upgrading because there are going to be new items added every week, and do not want people having their missions broken because of things changing around. The pbo before using the binarize tool is at 136mb right now... so having to constanlty redownload the addon is not the best way to do it...

The vbs1 version is pretty much finished, and will be released to vbs1 users in the next month. This will not have any of the new mapping types.

If you absolutely must have this pack now...then you can sign up and get it through being on the team... I will further explain this again when i get back from vacation. ....

Dec 29 2006, 23:30
here is a WIP of a wall kit I made for the IRAQ ISLAND that SMILEY is making....

The electrical wires is just an experiment atm. Im considering making a whole crazy network of wiring, but for the moment just will have a few variations for the walls...

The idea is that the gates can be breached with a certain amount of damage or if a tank rams it. There will be 3 other gates to give it some variety.... as far as the walls it will have a 2nd retexture of more middle class standard which wont be so weathered and broken down...probally more fancy brickwork or something like that....
Ill add some more screens to this post in a few days when i have more of it complete.

the bump mapping is still a bit extreme....wont know how to properly test it until the tools come out....
which i guess delays the release of the addon ... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/help.gif

Im not really sure how to define the lock as being something which gets shot.... but it could be interesting.... unfortunately Im not able to dedicate the time it would take to figure that out....

the gate has alot of detail, its around 300 faces.... but the lower lods will make it alot smaller... havnt gotten that far....
I have 2 other gates which are alot simpler and are smaller.

The IRAQ island that Smiley is making will probally use the less detailed gates for the tightly packed urban areas.

I might as well jump into the pond now - ribbit http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

As stated, frogstar is doing some fantastic work, and i really cant wait to get my hands on the tools and start building a Iraq environment. We belive the IMUC MOD is also considering merging with us, at least hottom mike anyway, as it would be silly doing two Iraq projects, much better to create one single, professional modification that we can all dedicate our time to.

A bit more detail about the environment now, we are going to cover the area of AL Basrah, down the south, the "Island" itself will cover a 40sq radius, so theres going to be ample room to have a unlimited possibility scenario on there. And as always the environment will be using DEMS to bring all the true elevations and contours to the arm a engine for added realism and reference. This island wont just be one of those random ones with jelly top hills, we are going to make this a "semi realistic" environment, that can be used to train, teach, and of course allow missions makers to make any situation they desire. We have over 2GB of reference pictures so far for AL Basrah and are trying to create some of the more important featured areas to match the real life location. Obviously we cant make every single building/object in Basrah as that could take years, but what we can do is make a large collection of real based locations, as well as artists impressions of the area and models to give it a unique feel.
Not to mention that we will also be having a real satellite image overlay on the environment so it will look just as good from the air!

Hope that gives you chaps more scope on the project.

Yes. That's exactly what we need - coordination. Hats off to you gents for banding up for the greater good. The end result can only get better by doing so.

A lot of people are into the Iraq-themed mod thing, and the more of them you can get involved, the less confusing it gets to everyone else once the missions start pouring in.

Please, when are you going to release this addon ? I love it, thanks. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif
Not sure yet on a date... the sooner the new tools come out the sooner it will be ready for release.

Thanks, there is no progress in terms of "screenshots" for the Iraq enviroment, due to the fact there have been no tools released, and i cant work in any other ofp/3rd party programs as arm a uses a different "reading" system to the old WRP's.

Non the less, we can still "mentally" populate and picture this until the tools are available.

Could also do collapsed houses and such for filling, spread the rooftiles, bricks, and stuff over the street so to speak...

Or just piles or sand, burned out truck wreck...

excellent work anyway! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/thumbs-up.gif

Basically different ways to stack up your units when clearing the inner area of someones yard.
Looks like im going to have fun in o2 setting all these up.... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

How about a simple concrete texture for the walls? I mean those look excellent but, even though i was never in Irak, i think concrete or something similar is pretty common there, especially for walls. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

I don't have the time to make urls out of every image. The other choice would've been to delete all posts with too big images... better be happy that you didn't get any WL or PR for so many too big pics http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Concrete walls wont be a problem... I have 3 textures mods for the wall set already, a 4th one wont hurt.
old crumbly walls
fancy brickwork walls
shot up walls
and later this week
Concrete walls

thanks for the input Serclaes

no worries I wont bother you or anyone else here at these forums anymore with large pictures.
you can close, lock, whatever you want with this thread....

I personally cannot be bothered with the time spent making sure every image is under 100kb.... my own fault for forgetting that this community is huge and servers must be really expensive nowadays to be able to handle so much data.

Well, this project has hit a wall as of lately... Forums are down due to the hack of ARMAMODS.net
I apologize to anyone recently registering there for beta testing. The pretools ARMA version is pretty much finished.
When the new tools come out i will add specular and Normal mapping to all objects. VBS1 users can PM me on the resources page and I can arrange to include you for beta testing if you want. The ARMA and VBS2 version will probally wait till the new tools are out....

Thanks for the update. It was disappointing to see that quiet period for the project. Looking forward to seeing this released in ArmA. It should produce some spectacular environments.

Apr 16 2007, 07:01
here is justa render of the same building repeated over and over again..... I may set it up so it can be randomized with versions with and without sat dish and mabey add one wilth lots of laundry hanging... And other versions with camo nets and lots of sandbags... The generic one can be placed all around the specific one you add in to your mission.

That building looks great!

Maybe it is also possible to randomize it by adding other colors of paint on places of the building or grafitti.

Im hoping to work with the details texture channel once the new tools come out... for now this will be the base texture... its still WIP atm. I have an IRAQI POLICE STATION version which will come after we test all the LODS and get that sorted out

Apr 16 2007, 11:29
can you have enterable and non enterable versions? Would be cool to have police station raids where some guys defend station and some guys attack it and it would have more tactical uses when you have windows and stuff to shoot from and rooms to hide in when the heat is on outside. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

Apr 16 2007, 15:08
Well for the most part this building is not enterable....but there are halways between floors which access the balconies on the different floors. The other buildings I made are all enterable and have a iraqi police station with jailcell. The insurgent version also has a jailcell for hostages.

ah nice pix of that simulation of iraq....

Well im only one person, so its not likely i will be able to make every type of building or stuff that goes around it......

I do have more buildings planned and lots of other things, but am trying to avoid starting anything new atm.
When the tools come out I will have an insurgent pack with 8 complete new reskins and remodeled versions.

So you basically ask him to steal VBS2 content and make it available to you for free?

If you want these tracers and sounds that bad, go and purchase VBS2 but stop spamming this topic.

Well where is the line really, the two games are related, and we can't really stump up $1,500 dollars.

I suppose we could instead just ask someone who has it to send the code over so we can see how it's done, and then replicate it. Now that wouldn't be stealing, but it would end up the same so maybe it's just a waste of time.

no
people dont seem to get what vbs actually is
it is a military application
its not meant for entertainment purposes..
its illegal to release sourcecodes of it just like uploading content and such to non-vbs2 users..

some of you folks dont seem to get it that you can be sued for this..
and personally i wouldnt like to mess with them..

now go back ontopic PLEASE!
