Last night i had again a totally awesome gaming experience with OFPE (own SP mission).
After destroying a shilka i had to exfiltrate back to my base by taking a ride with a Blackhawk on a cycled 'busroute'. But the sun was already low, and soon it would be dark. I had no NV, so i start to worry if i would find my way to the Blackhawk meeting point. First on foot running to an area where i had left an captured UAZ ... but i couldn't remember exactly where that was. Hell, where is that UAZ??? Anyway, i decided to go for the backup resistance UAZ which was placed 2 kms down the road. Running again, keeping an eye on the lowering sun.
Man, that was the awesome experience, to worry about the darkness. It was sooo convincing. Anyway, i found the UAZ but now i had to travel for some kms on dirtroads to the Blackhawk meetingpoint. I had to switch on the lights of the UAZ to just see the road. On the shaded side of the mountains, it was already dark. In the lights of my UAZ white flowers lit up, and the occasional insect would pass by. Great gfx effect, just like the real thing.
It was not easy to find the meeting point, 2 times i took a wrong turn on the dirtroads ... it was sooo cool to end up on a dead end and realize i took a wrong turn somewhere, get out of the car, look around and then with use of the map locate where i was.
In the end i found the meeting point ... The blackhawk was there, crashed! 1 dead pilot ... but it still could fly (so probably it crashed while landing). I took the chopper, flew back to the base, took a Cobra and finished the job ... Hell, those TOWS and FFEARS are awesome in the darkness.
Soooo, any OFPE junkie knows what i'm talking about, but it was AWESOME, this 1 hour of getting back to the base ... just like the real thing. These very little details like insects caputered in the lights of your car ... well for me that IS the OFPE experience not to be found in any other game.
:)
Damn that sounds like a nice mission. Too bad there's no 'easy' way to share missions/convert PC mission to Elite. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif
Btw, there's one thing I've realized: You must not kill birds. They deserve to live! http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload0/fy-fon.gif

Sounds good max. I've never made a full mission in the Elite editor due to it being lacking in most features. Might try it now though.
I just finnished the Resistance campaign. I've had Elite for a while, and did the CWC and most of the Resistance, but then left it. I came back to it a few days ago though, and was playing the mission where you have to take Lipany (or rather just the defesive position by it which i found out to great relief).
I'd been trying head on attacks but just got hammered everytime, all troops, or using the tanks. So this time i flank them, so i am East of the position.
I move my men around and start calling out the targets for them. I set up 2 men with Bizons on the hill looking west, and the rest in the tree line south of my position (over looking the defence pos.), armed with RPG's ready to take down the tanks that i knew would move in upon the start of my attack.
Turns out trying to 'cheat' and preempt the movements of the AI was a big mistake. I had all but 1 guy in dead ground, so they could see the tanks but they were far enough down to avoid getting shot up.
The tanks came further west than i had expected. The men in the ditch couldn't see the tanks, only the guy further west. He shot, he hit, but he died. 1 RPG versus a T72/BMP combo team was no match.
Whilst this happens the 2 guys on the ridge/tree line overlooking the defensive position are shooting away. They got silenced weapons so i figured they'd be alright, but the infantry are running closer and closer, and now the tanks are moving down. 6 gets shot up, so now its just me and 5 hiding on this ridge with the tanks advancing towards us.
The other AT guys i order west, to engage the tanks, and they do so.
Tanks down, me and 5 concentrate on infantry. I'm outta ammo and have to rape 6's body for ammo, and move in a sniper from the AT guys (hes got an M24 - held him back for Lipany and as he would give away the Silenced guys position) to help gun, and eventually it looks clear.
I start moving back to the AT guys (with sniper). I get them to move east, on the corner of a forest, to ensure they dont get killed so i have them for the attack on Lipany (not realising infact i wouldn't be doing that), whilst 5 is gunning down. I dunno who but dont care, figure its just some straglers.
As i get to the AT guys, i see troops south, up a hill. the AT guys call them out too and we start engaging them. They keep cresting the hill then dropping, so dunno if we're hitting them or they're going prone.
When the shooting stopped i noticed 5 has been quiet, ask him to report in and no response. He's KIA.
Then, as that happens the Sniper reports in a soldier 100m away, in the forest, starts shooting, then gets shot himself - KIA.
So now its just me and 2 AI units. An MG opens up from the forest and one of the AI gets injured. I move around and shoot the MG, then move up through the forest, back towards the defense pos. Then all these units start coming through, first 3 or 4 regular soldiers and then a couple of Spetsnaz. Christ knows how they found us as we were about 200m away from the defensive position.
They were sporadic but couldn't make them out in the bushes and trees and get shot at a few times and end up hiding behind trees and having to lean around and shoot.
After wandering around the forest for a bit i find what turns out to be the last guy and mission ends.
I really liked the mission as what i thought was a perfect plan (had assigned teams, set up positions, called out targets), went to hell as it unfolded.
The next mission (i think) was good also. It's the one where you have to attack Petrovice.
I set up a satchel for the T72 that will come into the village east of Pet and set up some guys to RPG the BMP. Well i missed the T72. Only the back end caugh the satchel and so it is dammaged but not out and an RPG guy has to nail it. The BMP speeds past and stops about 50m west of the village up the road. He can see my infantry and manages to drop 1 guy before he is taken out by my men.
So now we start moving up to Pet. I move in on the SE corner of it, on a small hill and see M2's, but nothing bad. I figure this is too easy so i flank south and set up my squad in some bushes, so they are now south of the M2s and can see the southern side of Pet.
I move further west and find 3 empty armour tanks and some crews. I bring up 2 of the AI to my position so they can attack the crews to stop them manning the armour.
I move further around, to a container/office, near some ruins. I hide in that, so i got cover and a place to shoot from.
I call in the fake convoy and Tiger group. When MG's start firing i tell my squad to engage.
Well i'm not too sure what the hell happened but an M2 on the west side of Pet swung around and took out the 2 AI that were supposed to kill the crews and i ended up shooting the M2 gunners and then frantically killing crew. Some crew must of boarded as then an RPG flew into a BMP and it exploded.
My container suddenly looked pretty crap as fire came at it from infantry somewhere. I crawled out of it and just hid behind it and shot at infantry around the armour.
When they were down i called in stats on my AI and it seems only 2 of them had surived, the guys in the bushes. Tanks were moving, but they were our sides. I move west to where the M2s had been that shot my 2 guys and sweeped them. I could hear tanks coming in from the west so i got a Mine from a crate by the M2s and planted it on the road and then loaded up on 3 RPG's.
I move into central Pet and see nothing, so i go to the roof of one of the mid-height flats. Cant see much from here but here the mine go off and then lots of explosions. As i am waiting to shoot the enemy tanks ( cant see them from my position at the moment) i get rifle fire at me.
I turn and see infantry running in courtyard, i get my legs shot and so have to be prone, but take down most of them. Then i see a T72 move into the courtyard. I dunno if its friendly or enemy. Infantry looks dead so i crawl down the flats to the exit/entrance. I know the T72 is close, but when i get down there i realise how close. It is literally ramming the flat. i wait there wondering what the hell it is doing and then its gu nturns at me. I am at the bottom of some stairs, i thought i was out of sight of what (going by its driving habbits) is a stupid tank.
Well i'm not and get riddled with bullets.
Luckily i had saved at the point where i am in my container/office.
I do the business, but this time set up a V shape of mines at the western entrance to Pet to ensure the tanks get blown.
I take to the tall tower this time also , so i got a good view of the tanks and infantry.
The mines do the job on the t80 and bmp, but the t72 slips through again.
It engages our tanks and comes off better. The infantry advance now too and are i nthe courtyard. Manage to take most of them out, then turn my attention to the t72. I put an RPG into it and its dead. But then i get fired at, from infantry i nthe courtyard. Take them out but then my 2 AI's int othe bushes call out enemys, i turn SE and see a squad moving in. They engage my AIs and both are taken out. Then i start shooting them and they shoot at me. Unluckily one of them is a grenadier and i get a Russian grenade ontop of the building and blown. Back to the save position.
I go through the stuff as the last time, but this time move quicker to engage the infantry squad SE. My AI still get shot, but no grenades for me.
Mission complete.
Then there was the final mission, Su25 destroying. I took satchels at the brief over RPG's as figured i'd need to escape too and wanted to get a head start.
I run into the base and crawl into a hanger. I Save nad first try engaing the patrol moving along western side of runway. I take down abour 4 or 5 but get killed. Load and thsi time crawl into the su25 as patrol moves along and then back to hanger, and repeat for the other 2 planes.
Then i cross runway, so at the sea. Unfortunatly the patorl must of spotted me as i get fired upon, so i blow the su25's, and that it turns out was all that was needed.
Now i just have to watch Troska get stuffed http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif
Now i have completed the campaigns and SP missions on Vet, guess only thing left is to do it all again on Mercanary.
I dunno why, but i MUCH prefer SP in Elite over SP in Flashpoint PC.
Damn that sounds like a nice mission. Too bad there's no 'easy' way to share missions/convert PC mission to Elite. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif
There is.

Yep, i'm thinking about making it available thru AR.
But there are also non-tech issues with sharing. I designed this SP mission just for my own fun, i know what i'm supposed to do and i can try different things, but another gamer is just presented with some target and even doesn't know what it is (but one can always the a peek with the mission editor).
Otoh, it could be fun just to (re)try this mission over and over again and find things out. In the beginning you are presented with an small working airfield and a target in the distance.
(small spoiler: near the target i placed an empty plane. There is just enough space to take off and fly back to destination point. Really cool. Even more cool when you try this when under fire, although a Shilka and/or T72 will blow you away while taking off. The one time i succeded it felt like James Bond hahaha:)
Btw, Hotshot stories are ok:) and yes i also find Elite much more living than classic OFP

So there is a way to convert missions without using Action Replay or a modded Xbox? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif

The mission I talked about is a standard SP Target mission. No prob in sharing this with AR en getting it to run on an unmodded xbox (when using AR)

You still need AR, you need some method to transfer the save from the PC to the XBox. AR is one product there are lots out there.

That's a problem with many missions that folks share. We go a different way and will only publish missions on our website (Homefront Wargaming Center (http://www.homefrontcenter.de) - only german at the moment, the English Section will go online June, 15th) that have a real Mission Briefing and do tell a specific story. With our long year consim background we find it essential to give realistic Mission Briefings where the player is supposed to sit in a briefing room and gets the info for his job to come by his officer. That's the reason we also don't make "jump into action" missions, but try to portray a bigger picture. I find missions with only the basic info "go from A to B" rather useless and not really appropriate to what this gem of a game offers. Just my two cents of course http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

TREASURE TROVE!
I just hit the site... UF-DA! Numerous missions with briefings... This should hold me for a while. If nothing else, to study the mission construction design is worth downloading a few.
I too think the instant action stuff is better left to other games, the missions need a briefing so objectives can be covered (maybe even some play tips as well?).
Awesome resource, and thanks for the English trans. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY!
I think mission tips would be cool to help you out. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/pistols.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/pistols.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif
