Need a little help guys. Can anyone tell me how to get around the glitch that won't let you designate targets in the Kiowa? I have a perfect mission for it but can't get it to work. I am getting better at freefalling those bombs P-38 style but I would prefer to involve my team in the destruction a bit more.

Follow instructions carefully:

1 Pilot gets in

2 Pilot switches to manual fire

3 Pilot switches to Lazer Des

4 Pilot pulls trigger "ONCE"

5 Gunner gets in

6 Gunner now has working Lazer Des

Have fun http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/pistols.gif
We have some great missins with Lazer des now, although it still works better with Lazer des commandos http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif

That really worked well. Thanks again Rotors. My mission is so good now that we can designate targets. I hope you'll come and play it with me sometime. Adding your GT right now.

Well it works flawlessy but I can't find two good pilots. I can fly the Kiowa or the A-10 but just can't get the coordination yet to put some fire on them. It worked a few times a few days ago destroying some T80s and other armor but every "good pilot" cries and dies cause they get killed in a hurry. They just are clueless on evading AA fire. No idea how to use the terrain. If you do not know how to approach a target from multiple angles and use the terrain against them, the shilkas will win every time. Most people see the waypoint or target and just fly straight at it never even glancing at the map or their compass. Oh well. Hope to play with Richrotors soon.

Yeah I am really happy with the way Crimson Thorn turned out. Wait till we have a ground team as well. Things get really interesting. When they are under fire and screaming for support it gets really intense. My plane is often flying damaged but I refuse to leave them without the support.

Some of those bombs were off target but that last one was dead on destroying both T-72s. It works but we definitely need to practice and be patient. Thanks for tryint it with me guys. We only scratched the surface of that mission.

I am up for flying the Kiowa next time out if you would like NAX. I would fly the A10 but really don't enjoy it as much as the helos. I guess now we need a designator http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/help.gif

In relation to Laser Designator, is it possible to have AI (i.e one of your own team members) mount an empty a10 take off and attack the point that you designate with the laser.
I'm trying to play test a co-op mission and find AI team members can get in copters and fly to pick me up/attack enemy near me, but can't get same effect with A10.
When I try with an A10, the Ai gets in, engine goes on, but it just shuffles forward in tiny little jumps.

Any help gratefully received. Great forums by the way.

I have no problems with that. The last time I tried that the AI got into the jet, followed the move waypoint and that intelligently: he drove slowly to one end of the airport way, turned around and then took off real nice.

I really have no idea how it works. Sometimes they do it, sometimes they don't. I will have to do some dedicated experiments with this when I have time. I would also like them to land an A-10 or especially a SU-25 on an airfield. That would be cool.

Try to place your A10 on a taxiway facing south not on grass or other area. I think the AI pilot will always try to take off to the north (if I'm wrong somebody please correct me). Also make sure there are no vehicles, items or AI soldiers in the way. The A10 should taxi, turn onto runway and take off - well hopefully!

I have done this twice and will explain my most recent attempt.  Basically I made an A10 LGB unit on one end of a runway facing the opposite end of the runway.  Then I gave the unit an attack waypoint at the large bridge on the south side of one of the islands.  I had an enemy armored column start west of the bridge and eventually cross the bridge to the east side of the river.  I set up as a commando designator unit on the hills east of the bridge.  Here is what I found out:

The A10 unit takes off and flies to the bridge.  It then begins flying runs over the bridge from various angles, sometimes using it's cannon to strafe the enemy armor.  When I painted a tank with the designator the A10 would never drop it's bombs, but when I painted the bridge or ground right next to the armor the A10 would drop a bomb on its next run about 25% of the time.  Basically the run needs to be perfect for the A10 to finally drop it's bomb I believe.  This may work better out in the open rather than near/on the bridge.  Getting the A10 to drop bombs was more for destroying the bridge than destroying armor, hehe.

I recreated this mission using 4 A10 LGB planes and gave them all an attack waypoint as above.  When I painted the area near the armored column I could get the collective A10s to drop LGBs at the rate of about one per minute.  If I recall correctly the A10s were not piloted by AI units in my squad but just placed as units.  They would target my laser designator though when it was not placed directly on armor but on the ground/bridge near it.  I did this back in Nov. and it was alot of fun to watch especially at dusk or dawn.  I may recreate the mission and run it again though as I deleted it at some point apparently.  If you need more info on this let me know and I will try to watch this thread.

Now that I have reread this and thought about it, I actually think I placed the A10 units out over water as they start off airborne.  I'm pretty sure I could place empty A10 LGB units and have AI from my squad mount them and take off, but I don't think I did it that way.  Anyways I do know that airborne A10 LGBs with an attack waypoint somewhere will definitely attack laser locations near that waypoint.
