View Full Version : Nuclear weapons

Hey Placebo (or other insiders) - on the PC version of OFP there was a mod that turned the useless SCUD's into actual, targetable nuclear missiles. Mushroom cloud and mass destruction included. Any chance of seeing something like that on OFP:E?

To tell you the truth, I highly, highly, highly doubt it. Mostly because of the complications of importing it to the Xbox, and also another reason. As I have heard, Elite will lag like there is no tomorrow with a view distance of... not that much. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif A nuke would probably kill your Xbox.

ATM, there really isn't a practical way to get custom content onto a console game. Maybe with the next gen consoles we'll see support for modders. But right now, I truly doubt it. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

I doubt that the Xbox can handle an exploding a-bomb.
Think about the destruction of an very big area. I don`t think it will work on the Xbox.

Just turn off your TV and and pretend that it was caused by the EMP.

There is a way to reduce the lag.

When will people understand that OFPE is not the same as OFP on the PC! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/pistols.gif

OFPE is not completely the same, but mostly the same as the PC version. Not for its engine, but for the content (used units, vehicles, missions).
If all players of the PC version of OFP would stay away of this part of the forum, OFPE players will loose a big part of the support that is given in here.
So please relax, all we try to do is to be helpfull. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

You're sounding like the guys over in the ArmA forum. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

Here's more or less what we tell them (modified for these circumstances):

It is NOT your place to demand things of BIS and/or (as much as it pains me to say it), Codies. They will make downloadable content when and even if they make it. Period. They don't have to do it for you, after all! You don't pay them to do it, so they don't have to do it for you. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/mad_o.gif

Thank you. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

EDIT- Oh dear God... I'm starting to sound like the mods... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wow_o.gif They be rubbin' off on me, methinks. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

Actually, they have, and are payed, to do it.

From the official site:

"Content Downloads: Yes"
http://www.flashpointelite.com/about.php

"Features
*Download new content."
http://www.flashpointelite.com/live.php

Otherwise, it would be false advertising http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

LOL .... relax dude, it was a script joke ffs http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

The simple answer is "you have an ice cubes chance in hell" of getting a "live" nuke being implemented in OFPE http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Super PCs have trouble with such massive ingame destruction compressed into such a short time frame, the XBox is just not up to it. Be surprised if even the 360 would be up to it.

Your comment should be aimed at Codemasters, downloadable content is in their hands.

Does that mean you guys already made stuff and all it takes is Codemasters to release it? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif

Of corse its my place to demand things I spent Ł20 on thier game, and yes that is what they are payed for and yes they do have to do it for me as I am a stakeholder in thier business.

So, Codemasters, any possibility of seeing mushroom clouds on our OFPE horizon? If not, some ships would be nice. Helicopter ships to launch attacks from or subs to target. Maybe new jets?

One more thing, is there ANY way to get an update so we can use that Jet Ranger helo in the game?

I hope they don't implement nuclear capability. Just my two cents...

Because it's not global thermo nuclear war. It is conventional warfare. Give us the Huey dang it! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif

Other than the cool factor, there is no scope for it in this game. These are relatively small islands and I find it hard to believe that the US would nuke any of these, considering this game goes for realism, not arcadey fluff. Yeah, a Huey would be great...

I agree, no nukes. I would like to have sticky bombs though.

How often have you been hiding in a bush and a tank/BMP passed right by, ok. Imagine if you could toss a sticky bomb at it and as it drove off a bit BOOM!!! Could set it to a fixed time say 10-15 seconds so you would still have to be careful how you used it.

Just an idea cause it's difficult to find a way to take care of a problem like this if they don't drive off a long way. Many times have I been forced to stay still for ages while a BMP whent all over the area I was in and I just wished I had a sticky.

Cheers...
