I have a question,me and a friend are getting this game and
1.Can you pick up guns from dead enemies, or friends.
2.Are your allies helpful on campaign.

1.You can pick up guns, magazines, radios..... nearly all kind of eqipment.
2. If you mean teammates, yes.

That's the first game I play where the AI teammates are as useful as real humans would be...

Well, that because you are no "superherothingy" in this game, in most other games you have an advantage (HALO mark2armorthingy, CoD more health, etc) but here you are just a grunt like everyone around you http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

I have to agree with that statement. In my experiance the AI lasts longer than human players. How many times have I seen people run striaght at the enemy, or try to fight a whole enemy squad alone at close range.

The things you talk off are to me typical AI features from OFP. 90% of the times I outlast my squad because I don't go prone to shoot at someone that is 3 meters away (for example). Also when you tell the AI to ''Take cover'' they don't really take cover, they just go to the most exposed position and go prone. When there are plenty of buildings (I mean the outside, not the inside) and vehicles to take cover.

I don't play online very often, but when I do I am often the last person alive (because I am a cautious player and don't use run & gun tactics). Like last week, I shot a Ural truck in MP with an AT4 missile. People didn't think it was a great achievement, well it was. Better to take out the truck then to have the embarked Soviet infantry overrun your position http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif

The few times I actually run across an open field I survive, either because I am being covered from higher ground or because I have already secured the surrounding area. OFP is about tactics, even in SP with the limited AI (revolutionary none the less).

All the A.I is smart I created a mission were some paratroopers came to kill us. The got scattered insted of carging like idoits they regrouped. I have only barely survived a 4 on 1. If you do this http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/pistols.gif this is what happens http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/goodnight.gif

I don't know what game ayu are actually playing, but that never happens to me. Yesterday I was again very surprised by the behaviour of the AI. My squad and me where on a little hill and had to clear a russian base, but there was T-80 driving around in the open area. I directed my squad members to different trees and everybody went there quickly and then awaited further orders. My numer 5 had a AT weapon on his back, so I told him to knock out the tank while I stayed on the hill with my binoculars so I could see how he would do the job. What I could see then was very satisfying for me:

the guy said "roger" and started to move towards the tank, but instead of running across the open ground he cautiously moved from tree to tree, going prone when the tank seemed to look at him. When the turret was in another direction my soldier went further towards the target. Then he stopped at a good shooting position by a tree and destoryed the tank with one shot. After that he came back to my side without any order given to do so. I sat before my TV and was really impressed so I said to the screen "well done django, good to have you in my team" before I realised I was talking with an AI in my TV http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rofl.gif

I have such awesome experiences all the time and again I say that this is the best AI I have ever seen in ANY game so far.

Well i have to agree with you, the AI of one soldier is crappy, but the AI as a group is great, they really cover eachother, send people forward etc ***http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

(check it yourself in the editor, just place 2 groups and let them run into the middle of montignac (best to setskill 1 the groupleaders ***http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif )

The a.i. destroyed a T80 with one LAW? It takes atleast 4 http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif . And in the comands you can select all of your man and order them to take cover (hide) but they will just spread around looking stupid in the PC version, dunno if it has been fixed in Elite.

That wasn't a complete AAR of the mission of course. I tried to knock the tank out before and fired some shots at it, but then I was pinned by MG fire so I decided to just look what my squad member could do since I sent him to another hopefully better shooting position. I hoped for giving him a good angle to fire at the tank while the tank commander still looked at my position. Anyway, I never had that stupid standing around. I only had one time an officer who couldn't get around a pillar, which was strange and a tank that tried to force down a tree without success. With the former I had to do a restart because nothing worked to get that officer get out of the vehicle or to make him drive backwards, whatever. With the tank I gave it a move command to another direction twice and the last of this orders was obeyed and the tank was free again. But I am playing this game from way before xmas now and these were the only things I actually had to complain the AI.

Wow http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wow_o.gif i was bent on saving my money for Arma, but if that's how Elite bots behave maybe i can spare the extra cash http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif

of course I'm not saying the AI is smarter than actual people. But in my experiance on live. People love to run forward and be a hero, with no support. they quickly run off and seperate from the group. then die.

As i said before, they AI as a group is great, the AI as an induvidual (i cant spell..) sucks ***http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

EDIT: according to de developers they updated the AI, they go into houses now (this was already possible in OFP, but it only happened on accident or when there was no other way to get somewhere http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif )
