Hey everyone, hope you're all enjoying OpFlash!
But to the point of my very first post (yipee! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif )
Me and a friend were playing the Apache co-op mission - i was the pilot & he was the gunner - and though we succeeded, we couldn't figure out if the Hellfire missiles had a target lock or if i - as the pilot - had to point in the general direction and pray it was spot on for my friend to fire and hit the target in front of us.
Any help would be most welcome,
Thanks in advance,
councilor
I haven't played the Xbox version of OFP yet, but I noticed in this thread (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=63;t=49186;st=30), Suma explained the use of the Hellfires:
1. When I am flying a helicopter and switch the gunners weapons to hellfires, he doesn't attack with them the targets I announce to him. With machine guns and rockets he does, so what must I do to make him use the hellfires?
You need to press Fire to tell him to fire once you see the firing position is good, the same way as you do it in the tank. You could also switch to manual fire, but this way your hellfires would be unguided. If gunner fires it, he locks it to the target you designated and they are guided during the flight.
I hope that helps http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Thaks for the reply. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/thumbs-up.gif
it does a little, in the theoretical sense, but lets assume we're morons http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rofl.gif
is this what you mean:
1> I, as squardron leader, choose My Apache in the Orders menu
2> select a target on the battlefield, which then becomes highlighted on the HUD
3> my friend, as the Gunner, selects the Hellfires as his weapon
4> fires when in range of the target, say 200metres
5> the missile should be locked & hit the target
is that correct?

Having never played Elite this is what I can say from my OFP v1.96 experience:
In MP, gunner has full control of weapon systems onboard, so what usually works in PC version:
>Fly around in Apache
>Spot a target
>Gunner: Lock on to the target (Right Click or TAB) (There is a square around the target, and if locked on there is an diamond over that square.)
>Pilot: Face in the general direction of the target
>Gunner: Fire the missile

This is correct
Except on the Xbox the pilot would aquire the target for the gunner by pushing the white button or click down on the left stick to target the enemy, after the lockon (the square with the diamond over it) the pilot should push the right trigger to tell the gunner to fire the hellfires. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Both Gunner and Pilot can select targets by clicking the left thumbstick. The pilot does this so that he can select manual firing "Y" button and also to keep track of what targets are out there. The gunner does the same and the hellfire will hit whichever target he has selected (so long as the target is not obscured by land trees buildings etc.) The helicopter can only "lock" onto tanks with hellfires but will "highlight" tanks with the other weapons. It will also only highlight and not lock on, to other helicopters/aircraft with guns.
If the seleted target is ID'd in YELLOW, it cannot be identified but you may be able to destroy it. If its RED it can be ID'd and you may be able to destroy it. If you fire your weapon and it changes to a white ID you have destroyed it! move to next target http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Hi richrotors
Not always true. I had a little trick in MP I learned from the AI. Sometimes when a tank is hit and survives but perhaps looses the crew an AI commander may assign another soldier as gunner. This has an interesting effect as the target changes from red to white then back to red in what can be a surprising and often awkward moment.
Having been caught by this I used to use it as a trick in MP. I would park my tank on a hill top hopping between the commander spot and the gunner so as to see the radar. If an enemy helo managed to hit me at a distance I would abandon the tank and nip behind the reverse slope of the hill. Thus tank going white and me playing doggo.
I would then, if I had stinger or such available hit them with that, if needed or no stinger was available I would wait till they were tail on to me, remount the tank and hit them with the cannon, switching to MG between reloads.
Most times I do not think the helo pilot even new what hit them.
Kind Regards Walker

Thanks guys!
The manual wasn't too clear on this @<hidden> all.
Now my friend and I shall missile away to our hearts content!
Again,
Thanks!
Yeah just tell your friend to sit there in gunner scope and keep pounding the left stick button.
When he gets a target he will know, then the pilot just has to be facing in the general direction of said target and when he gets the square he is facing it and when that square is overlayed by a diamond then he has a lock. If it's a clear shot then he should pop off 2 missles and if afforded the luxury of having no other dangers around then he can watch for the red to white.
If there are other dangers around then he should press his left stick again to change targets and try to get a lock and repeat above. He can when he thinks he has taken out all the targets then check for more locks just incase of someone doing the switch.
Also a very good idea to make sure as a pilot that you know where the ammo supply truck/s are, if aplicable.
Cheers...
when you using the apache or cobra or mi24 , equip the hellfire missile, then press the left analog down to to mark the target. Is easy to kill from long distance specially when shilka tank is ahead.
