Nah..its good..and at a distance does better than woodland and most desert camo's do,the pixel like stuff blends better together rather than the "splotchy" paint like appearence..thing.

ACU stands out a lot, atleast from what i heard and seen of it. In forests it looks like you were wearing white and in desert its too darkish.

I'm talking about woodland ACU,not the desert ACU,desert I could understand...from what I read the US military is currently more concerned about identification rather than camoflauge, they can make all the patterns in the world but it will enver truly hide you,and with growing technology, the issue of mistaking a friendly for a foe grows as well,or sort of..I duno..was a bunch of FF goin on at the start.
Ok, GBee and Dwarden here we go:

You will notice the differences mainly on the hood, the tires and the windshield.
I had to dive on my files a little bit to find that old picture. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif
Did'ja notice they also mentioned 3Ghz in this last review? (as accurate as the reviewer was http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/icon_rolleyes.gif )
64 players and 100-200 AI? Shweet! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif
The goal was ~2km as default. About 6 months ago.
it still is 2 km as default, but the new maximum is rumored to be 10 KM http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif .
That's what I was trying to point out:)
10km view distance with more than ~1FPS? Let's dream on! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif

Hm...the rounded line in the hood around the lights, adding a "jeep" like feature..the windshield seems tilted forward, windows are smaller, doors are curved, the second light on the right isn't there, the hood has a more boxy shape on it than a V with the parts that stick out..and theres no vent (or w/e it is) there in the hood itself, the larger cylinder thingy and the tires..and whatever the hell that box is on the top, thanks hmmwv, never knew that http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

adamicz 's post (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=5;t=50524;hl=new;st=30) has some scans of a magazine, with more screenshots

Great stuff - at least we know BIS are future-proofing their product for the distant future when we all have 6GHz+ monster machines http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Thanks for the pics hmmwv. I can see the differences now, though they are fairly subtle overall http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Improved Simulation of Urban Areas. VBS2 provides improved simulation of complex urban areas, including dynamically destructible buildings (ask for a demonstration at ITEC), round penetration through walls and operable doors that can be destroyed. The particle system has been optimized allowing for large amounts of dust, smoke and haze for more realistic combat environments. Tracers are improved and now ricochet off objects and the ground in a realistic fashion. Collision detection and engine physics have been vastly improved, allowing participants to smoothly control entities within built up areas and around buildings without collision problems.
Link source (http://www.virtualbattlespace.com/press_itec_06.htm)
VBS1 did Not have ricochet off objects and the ground.
There for if we we have information that ARMA have ricochet (http://www.firingsquad.com/features/armed_assault_interview/) off objects and the ground will exist.
Then can i assume ARMA will also have dynamically destructible buildings, round penetration through walls and operable doors that can be destroyed?

Not really, because VBS and arma are completely different things.

That article you were quoteing before was about VBS2 (NOT VBS), which shares its engine with Game2... not OFP or ArmA. So just because one thing that will be in Game2/VBS2 found its way into ArmA (a relatively small thing at that) does not mean large things such as dynamic destruction will be there.
ArmA probly isn't going to look much like VBS2 at all really... its nothing more then an advanced Flashpoint. As where Game2/VBS2 are new engines with many features ArmA will not have.
from the recent german mag preview:
Interesting Information
Most buildings will not be enterable or destructible
AI units should be more intelligent but this was not evident in the play test
Jets are still not decided upon
12 missions versus 40 in operation flashpoint
The graphics are still not completed – the soldiers cast no shadows for example
Release Date – 3rd Quarter 2006
Vehicles will have six layers of detail and double the polygon count
All vehicles will have multiple player postions
very interesting if you ask me http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Vehicles will have six layers of detail
Do they mean LODs? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif

for example bump mapping (aka normal map), not sure what all six are tho. specular, diffusion, texture (of course) layers could be some.
edit: btw LOD stands for level of detail not layers of detail.

"The VBS2 engine, due for release in Q3 this year, is being developed in accordance with the user requirement of customer organisations based upon their experiences with VBS1." from the same vbs2 press relase^ (http://www.virtualbattlespace.com/press_itec_06.htm)
VBS and ArmA/Game2 are different things, but I`m sure the development of VBS has some influence on the games.
VBS2 is going to be relased in Q3 this year? Or only "the VBS2 engine" will be relased in Q3 this year.
If those features mentioned in this press relase aren`t going to sneak into ArmA, they`ll hopefully be in game2, which as we know shares the engine with VBS2. So is it safe to say that game2 will have it`s engine finished Q3 this year?

Bohemia Interactive to demonstrate Virtual Battlespace (VBS) at ITEC 06 - 3.5.2006
Bohemia Interactive shall be attending the ITEC conference this year and will be demonstrating the VBS product range. ITEC is to be held at ExCeL in London from May 16 - 18, 2006. Bohemia Interactive will be located at booth 268, co-located with our HLA/DIS integration partner Calytrix. Registration to access the exhibition is free - see http://www.itec.co.uk
For a new game with a completely new engine, I can wait the wait. But for a 1.2 engine? 4 years seems a bit too long imho. I am glad as heck I come here rarely. lol Cause I`d have gone crackers along time ago sitting around here watching the cobwebs grow. ;p

^ I'd say that the M249 is not a HMG, if you mean Heavy Machine Gun. It is a Light machine gun. HMGs must be something like tripod mounted .50 cals.
In case of LMG, it indeed is possible to lift it by one hand. At least the Finnish army's machine gun. But to operate it with one hand... not feasible.
There's a part2 to the IGN interview, seems I talked to much and they had to split it into two parts http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif Unfortunately I don't know when part2 will be put online.

Awesome screens! Impressive heli guns!
For arma/VBS2 I think it's the same core, so same game. Differences are in the use. VBS2 dynamical MP with a powerful workshop, AA an immersive story for single player.

You start as a private and have access to some basic weapons. You will gain 'points' for killing oponents, completing objectives etc. When you have enough points you will gain rank and you'll be able to 'buy' a new less basic weapon. If you've played BF2 then you know what I mean.

A soldier jogging through a field isn't that fast in terms of animations, and in any case that is no excuse for poor limb alignments. If it is noticeable in a screeny it sure as hell will be noticeable in game!
I think our best hope is to assume that it is only WIP! It won't kill the game for me, but it needs to be pointed out in terms of constructive criticism from a very picky community!

"Enjoyment - At the end of the day, it's a game, and games are supposed to be fun and relaxing, so we have an objective to ensure that Armed Assault doesn't become overly frustrating or excessively difficult - unless of course the player chooses to play that way. That's why there are intelligently implemented skill levels and visual aids; the player can choose how much help he wants - or doesn't want."
That's good news. If you're a newbie, you set your own difficulty. If you're a vet, the same goes for you. So the game will suit most of the people.

LOL, just because 1 interview says that means nothing. A lot of the time false information is given out in magazines or they get things wrong.

i know this was discussed before but for these who fear free movement and fire within and from vehicles is not in ArmAs (or wasn't yet discussed in previews) ...
in Convoy Training Enhacement for VBS1 is this possible , so there is big (still IF) chance ArmAs include that too ...

It's that moving around in vehicles thing! I'm not sure whether this has been mentioned as a feature of ArmA yet but I certainly haven't heard it. I think I heard word of it in VBS, though I'm not sure of that either.
Does anyone know the score here? Also walking around on moving ships etc. would be cool as it was a limitation in OFP. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif

I guees it's due to the fact that they're not signed to a publisher yet. Something tells me that publishers will be 'fighting' over BIS after E3 though.

Previously VBS1 vehicles only provided a single position that a unit may fire from. Convoy training enhancements allow any vehicle occupant to fire their personal weapon and move around on the back of moving vehicles in a realistic fashion. Tank commanders can turn out to use their personal weapon or use binoculars. Vehicles may also have working indicators as well as operable doors and hatches.
so hope exist for ArmAs http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif ...

So its's all in this Convoy training enhancements thing. Thus it is an enhancement for VBS1. How different is VBS1 from ArmA in terms of raw engine? Could this enhancement then not be incorporated into ArmA? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif
Shooting your weapon from the back of an open truck, walking around the deck of a ship and being able to drive vehicles on and off, transporting them w/o them needing an allocated slot. Drive your jeep into the back of C130 or Chinook and drive it off again at the next landing. Doesn't Joint Ops have this kind of ability?

I'd love to see movement in vehicles in Armed Assault, *really* love to see it. In fact it would vie with proper rivers for the number one spot in my most wanted.
I'm not sure we will see it though because from what I've seen of the feature in the VBS convoy mod it wasn't very smooth, it always looked like what it was, an engine hack. If they couldn't create something perfect for their premium simulator then it looks unlikely they would use it in Arma.
Enabling movement on the deck of ship might be easier than the interior of a C130, so maybe we will see that in the future.
Hope I'm wrong anway.
EDIT: Just watched the VBS vids again. The movement in vehicles actually looks better than I remember, though it doesn't look realistic as soldiers manage to remember standing+firing as a truck bumps along, taking tight turns at 30+ mph.
plus take in mind VBS1 got multiple updates since that time ... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif ...

I remember reading that vbs2 was supposed to be using the "game2" engine, and if it is released so soon™ this year , does that mean that "game2" is approaching completion so soon while ArmA is not even released ?
It might just mean that the VBS2 engine is based on the Game2 engine, so I don't think the 'release' of VBS2 has anything to do with the release of Game2.
Btw, as far as I know VBS2 won't be available to the public for a long time, so we won't miss anything if VBS2 is released before Game2.

Not that off topic
Game2 engine is near completion due that vbs2 (public release or not, that's not important for me) supposed to be soon to be released (unless vbs2 use a modified version of the ArmA engine, not the game2 one like i read previously).
From what we know BIS is working in the same time on ArmA and "game2" and certainly help BIA to get vbs2 ready in time, i really wonder if it means for the public that "game2" and ArmA will be released soon one after the other once they find a publisher.
Despite using different engine, that would create certainly some problem to release similar games one after another in a short delay.
I remember reading that vbs2 was supposed to be using the "game2" engine, and if it is released so soon™ this year , does that mean that "game2" is approaching completion so soon while ArmA is not even released ?
The engine is only a small part of what a game is about. We've already heard that Game 2 is likely to be in development for another two years (at least). During this time they will be working on the content, gameplay, AI etc which is no small task in an RPG style dynamic battlefield game taking place on a 1000 sq. km. island.
VBS2 is simple in comparison to Game 2, the army aren't interested in role playing with AI for a start. The VBS2 team is also likely to be bigger than the Game 2 team!

No it just has a deeper level of "realism" which can be better used for training. I've seen/played VBS1, same as OFP with different units, maxed-out visuals and better scripts/tools for missions. afaik shooting from cars is still fully scripted in VBS1 =).

Well, I`ve noticed that first! lol http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
What`s interesting...the small details like "better smoke&fire effects in arma (the recent cz interview) and the better smoke&fire effects in VBS2 annoucement (In the "Improved Simulation of Urban Areas").
Secondly, ArmA is a true sequel of Ofp. (?) And game 2 is in fact game3, and has about 2 more years of development...
VBS2 shares the engine with game2, not game3...but well, the game3 doesn`t exist....formally...
We saw some shots of game2 at last years e3, but now the pics from ArmA are becoming more and more game2ish...Just look at the first pics from ArmA, they were from OFP:E...The tank models are from OFP:E...
It wouldn`t be a big supprise for me if we had destructable buildings in arma now...
Another thing...Just look at the codemasters vs BIS thingy...
BIS are making a sequel of a great game...3years? maybe longer...now sudenly they`re breaking with their publisher and gues what? They`re starting a new TITLE...something between OFP and OFP2 (from now on Game2)...In the middle of development of the mysterious ArmA, we hear something like "well, It`s actually becoming more and more sophisticated, maybe we should call it game2"...
Wasn`t it all planned?
The game2 shown at e3 was in fact ArmA, some features announced there were in fact ArmA`s features, some are still being introduced into the game2 (still 2 years of development!http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif or should I say game3? The thing called ArmA was in fact OFP:E...
The question are:
Is ArmA really the game2 from the beginning, and should we expect a lot more from it?
What should be the game2(3?) called then, ArmA2?
Well i believe so.
I noticed the same thing. We already spoke in forum about this evolution and names. All images points to it. (hope so) http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/xmas_o.gif

Haven't we had this discussion before?? (we have, that was rhetorical)
The defining features of Game 2 are the Role playing elements and the totally new engine.
Arma has none of the above. Arma is NOT Game 2, Arma is a massively improved OFP but not a true successor.
Of course the early pics from Armed Assault had old OFP:E tanks - they hadn't created the new models yet!! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif

First of all, I didn`t write I`m sure about it, I`m just borred.
Secondly who told you how many improovments were planned for the game2, I`m talking about the time long before the last year e3.
And how could the game shown at e3 be ArmA if they "hadn`t created the new models" by that time?
The old pics from ArmA had the tanks from ofp:e, the new pics from ArmA also have the tanks from ofp:e, what we see on the screens from ArmA are placeholders, so It`s obvious that the models from game2 at e3 were placeholders too...
edit: I just don`t belive they`re making game2 for so long, and poped up with the ArmA (ofp 1.5) idea last year...

And why does some people still insist to the death although we see new amazing stuff coming that this is just some OFP 1.5(which VBS1 should be called...really) when BIS themselves say:
"by the creators of Operation Flashpoint*. recharges in a new engine", Fight for freedom in a brand new storyline, a military GTA. "
I cant not call that OFP 1.5 like it is some kind of patch to OFP when it is a brand new game. And as one of the preview sites say:
"can't call the game 'Operation Flashpoint 2', but that's exactly what it is. Only better, more ambitious and much, much bigger."
Its pretty obvious that Armed Assault has grown past the expections since we first heard of it.

Huh? You can see a huge difference between 30 and 60fps. At least on a crt, not sure about LCD's, since I've never used one.
And why does some people still insist to the death although we see new amazing stuff coming that this is just some OFP 1.5
Well it's a matter of context.
If OFP had just been an ordinary, average computer game, yes Armed Assault could reasonably have been called it's successor.
However OFP was revolutionary, it still is the best Mil Sim/Military FPS available and other games still have yet to come close. In that context Armed Assault just doesn't earn the right to be called the succesor because it offers nothing ground breaking, no earth shattering advancements in gaming technology. BIS themselves recognised this from the start and set themselves a hard act to follow. Yet they have managed to come up with the next revolution in Game 2 ... the totally dynamic, persistant battle fought between AI generals and the RPG elements, built around the OFP world, are what makes Game 2 utterly unique.
Now Armed Assault will be the game of the year, a fantastic piece of work which no one is denying. I think BIS have outdone themselves and deserve good things, but it isn't OFPx2, it's still the same game at the core albeit polished to perfection.
That is my opinion http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Agree wholeheartedly. AA wasn't meant to be the next step in BIS's game making - just a placeholder (albeit, a freaking good placeholder) until Game2 can stun us all.
When people start to play ArmA i bet they wount touch OFP again, i might be wrong but i daught.
So in that case ArmA will be called OFP successor for sure.
I never played the original OFP after buying Resistance, by your logic doesn't that make Resistance the successor?

Smooth FPS? How much was it? If it was 100FPS then i wouldn't worry. But if it was like 30FPS, than i would be very worried, meaning i would have to upgrade my rig (and maybe not just upgrade, but buy a totally new config)
I read somewhere that anything over 25fps is undetectable by the human eye anyway! 100fps? That aditional 75fps would be better put to other processes! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Huh? You can see a huge difference between 30 and 60fps. At least on a crt, not sure about LCD's, since I've never used one.
I guess that you can see the difference between 30 and 60FPS...but that wasn't my point http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif I meant it more like this: if "2,7ghz opteron 144, rad. x1900xt, 2gb ram" runs ArmA at 100FPS, than my old rig might run it at, lets say, 30FPS. But if "2,7ghz opteron 144, rad. x1900xt, 2gb ram" runs it at 30FPS, than i'm f****d! Of course, it all depends on the setting they were using, but still...i hope i can run ArmA at 30FPS on this setting: 1024*768, medium (or even low detail). Although this great game would be spoiled by that kind of setting, i just don't find money growing on trees...i really can't afford a new computer. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif
You mean OFP Elite. It cant be a sucessor cause its OFP (literally improved for Xbox).

"We continue to optimise as much as possible even as we near the end of the developmental cycle, so at this point we're still not quite sure how much we will be able to achieve in the different areas of optimisation and thus what the required system specs will be, however it's fair to say that something in the region of 2GHz intel/AMD CPU, 512MB RAM, DX9 64mb graphics card is somewhere around the probable minimum spec." by Placebo
The specifications of the computer demanded to smooth play depends not on the game in general but mostly on the mode of the game. In OFP:CWC u could play without any lagg on small CTF and standard CTI (for egz. campaign everon, standard view was set on 700). When someone edited map and changed the distance, for campaign everon (5000), which could be seen (more horizon view) the FPS dramatically went down.
Many people played on standard distance (700), but it was kinda unrealistic with that funny fog on 200 meters and the gameplay was shitty.
It`s obvious that if u want to play CTI mode with far horizon view u need to have a good PC. Let`s hope it won`t demand a much better one than for OFP.

OFP`s sucessor is supposed to be groundbreaking, and the game2(3?) probably will be, but why you can`t admit, that ArmA is a true sequel of ofp? If not, we could have ofp1.5(ArmA), ofp1.7, ofp1.9 and so on, each with the upgraded engine, and still no sequel...
Even if not planned ArmA is the ofp2 now...or will be called ofp2 by the media just after the relase.
The question was: was It all planned?
Some ppl seem think they know the thoughts of ppl inside BIS. Well, I don`t...

Yeah, I sure hope so. Many of the reviews for Elite weren't exactly glowing. But, I think OFP was just too hot for the XBOX to handle. The visible distance was impairing.
Elite was a remake OFP. ArmA will obviously be a whole new game. The days when we could say "ArmA is Elite with a new island and a new campaign" are over. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/thumbs-up.gif

the totally dynamic, persistant battle fought between AI generals and the RPG elements, built around the OFP world, are what makes Game 2 utterly unique.
This is what I call "game 3"(hehe http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif), the real revolution in game making, atleast
everything points at it when looking and hearing about the previews.
I almost wish they would work with codemasters again so that game would
have the title: OFP2. But we know this wont happen wont we?
Im guessing it will have a brand new name not related to anything they released before.

Question: I think I read somewhere(dont remember where) that the original

Don't get me started on 'poor' OFP:E. C'mon it is a stunning title (and reviewers??? a lot of them are just gfx junkies).
If only OFP:E was recompiled on 360 (meaning 3x the resolution, 3x the viewdistance and 3x the construction points) and released as such it would have been a heck of a game.
The only thing which would put off some would have been the character models and animations. (and a tad more polish to the mission editor would have been nice)
It is really a shame that such a title had such bad luck. Now i can only dream of a 360 version of ArmA.

But is this decision taken because of the copyright issues?
I was speculating to myself that the reason behind this was
they wanted the audience too look upon it as a brand new
game and not just OFP with new graphics.
The only thing I've heard is that the old stuff wasn't quite as 'good looking' as the new ArmA stuff (hey, that's not even true http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif )so they choosed not to include it.
Hence 'free addon pack' rumor.

Legal issues don't allow BIS to include CWC campaign with ArmA since codies have at least a part claim on it. If on the other hand it was offered later as freeware this could overcome their copyright issues as it would be freeware and not something that BIS would be financially gaining on. This is the situation AFAIK. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Although I agreed with many of the criticisms made by the reviewers that did not like Elite very much, I still enjoyed playing the game. Sure, there were some disappointing aspects of it (when you reload the soldier just fiddles with the gun a little), but other parts did impress me. At first I thought that commanding a squad would be excessively frustrating on the XBOX, but Bohemia Interactive did a very good job at making it easy to issue a wide variety of commands. Hats off to BI on that. Seeing the grass and trees blow in the wind was also very satisfying since it was missing in the static environments of the original OFP. Watching the Nogova bridge blow up after I set satchel charges on it under the covering fire of my squad mates was rewarding as well.
Oh boy, it will be hard to handle the quiet in these few days leading up to E3. I hope Armed Assault gets good coverage. (Of course it will.)

Movement of tree shadows doesn't bother me. The 'patrolling' animation is extremely good and reminds me of real-life footage but if I was to nitpick I'd suggest that the soldiers should look from side to side occasionally ! Maybe they're doing this but it's not obvious from the video.
I don't think unit/object shadows are their top priority right now. I guees they'll be animated too, sooner or later. And if you don't want animated tree shadows? Turn them off http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

I think they used a generic type of "sway", for all trees... so these palm trees sway in thesame way as "ofp" trees. I hope they make the level of sway dependand on the "mass" (as in the O2-term) of the tree.

I beg to disagree. I live in the desert and I am surrounded in real life by the very same species of Washingtonia Robusta and Phoenix Dactylifera, many if not most that are the same size or larger, and they do indeed sway in a stiff breeze.

there can be no doubt that in a breeze where the leaves are not moving the palms would never, move so vigourously.(its my proffession). but i think the actual explanation for what is happening in the video , is that they are showing you how much the trees can be animated as well as soldier anims and camera anims (only slower zoom i noticed). btw i think these are the palms found in India , i see the banding on the tree as appose to the "knobbles". its short and blurry so i wont bet my career on it.

Yeah I saw that, it was ridiculous. I have confidence they'll fix it. Also, no, third person is fine. In real life you have a lot better freedom of motion, and awareness with sound smell and just general direction. Third Person simulates it basically. If you're worried about people looking around corners, then I see no problem. In real life someone could just PEAK over, instead of leaning all the way over. I like 3rd person because it basically gives a balance to a video games lack of depth perception, awareness, freedom of motion etc. Same with crosshair. In real life, you could shoulder fire with not too bad accuracy (I mean shoulder fire, not hip fire. If you view the animation, the soldier is clearly firing from the shoulder, i.e. up but not through ironsights)

Imagine you shoot down a bird with your M16. You pick it up and carry it to the burning wreck of a BMP. After 15 minutes you have a nice BBQ if some squaddies provide you with sauces! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rofl.gif
That would be a nice way to recover health instead of calling the medic. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

As requested by the BIS forum community, we present you with ArmA: The World's First Palm Tree Simulator.

Well the recent ArmA interview clearly says that ArmA shares the engine with VBS2. Of course the writer could be a complete noob, but well...They`re not showing the `game2` there..only ArmA.
I hope we`ll see something groundbreaking soon...

3rd person is fine, especially if veteran nutcases like me can turn it off. I love that option! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/inlove.gif
yeah leave the option to turn it on and off, then everyone is happy... i like first person over third but it is nice if you want to create movies
SP = Third person on
MP = Third person off
Scalability in ArmA = http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif

I believe that to be an error in the Interview... since everything to this point says ArmA's engine is a beefed up version of VBS1. Also there was an article a few weeks ago that said Game2 shares its engine with VBS2. And we know ArmA and Game2 have diffrent engines.... so its very likely that the write of the interview is confussed.

When OFP:E came out one guy devoted himself to shooting down a seagull, then a hawk. Finding the carcass to take a screenshot for proof was probably have the feat.

I wish BIS wouldnt waste it's time with gimmicks like constellations and animals, I mean one thing is maybe a seagull but INSECTS? Come on, waste of time BIS.

Well in OFP:E birds are a pain to hit, but you can kill them. Pretty boring afterwards just staring at a dead bird...

Dito. I know no other game where you can navigate by the stars. I had a love/hate relationship to that campaign mission in OFP where you had to escape from russian imprisonment. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rofl.gif

They are far from gimmicks, they make the game world very real.

Indeed GBee it dose. After playing OFP fo 4 years with no wild life then playing OFP:E since it came out with insects and birds it just makes the world a lot more believable.
I loved all the worthless gimmicks of OFP. So the more worthless gimmicks they can fit in ArmA, the better http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload0/fy-fon.gif

At least these gimmicks helped immersion into the game world.
In Soldner, all you had were these crappy emot-actions that didn't fit the context of the mercenary theme.
Hi all
The latest video is great.
http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?newlang=eng
I love the shadows on the soldiers as they move in and out of the sunlight.
The texture detail on boulders makes me want to climb them.
You can see how effective the normal mapping is in the shot that passses over the helmet of the soldier on the hill. Every crease, fold and split in the fabric over the helmet is visable.

Hahaha ... insects???????
OFPE story (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=63;t=51930) says it all.
Without those little bastards OFP/ARMA is just a dead place, no fun at all. I prefer OFPE over OFP anytime.

Nice trailer , it was more of a show stuff and less of action type , show off the storyline trailer that the old ofp trailer was but i think this trailer will do its job too http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Uh oh...this site (http://www.erscheinungstermine.de/release-dates/games/3-pc/2342-armed-assault/release.html) says ArmA got a release date on June 30 2006...in Germany... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif
Speculation http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Probably...though, if BIS is gonna hold their H1 release, June 30 is the last date they can release it...and didn't both OFP and Res get released around that date? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

Very impressive new trailer video.
The animations seem really perfect, the colors and lighting are really good, the models are superb, really a trailer that achieved to make me "drooling"
Can't wait for this game to be released, will certainly make a comined arms assault on a store to get it extracted from the shelves and evacuated directly to my computer.

I certainly don't wish to piss on anybodys parade but correct me if i'm wrong in that these visuals could also be achieved with the current OFP. I see no differance in any movements or other but maybe that's because i've seen it with VBS1 so i'm subconsciously not able to see anything out of the ordinary. I do hope that the flyby sequence did not show the entire collection of vehicles that will be available ingame.
Also on a side note i'm atleast hopeing the vehicles will be on a par with VBS vehicles (textures) as the new soldier models certainly look as good if not slightly better...
