Quote ]You should also know that there are apparantly legal issues with using content in OFP/ArmA directly from VBS, and that BIS has different intentions than BIA.

other way around dude,
there is issues using OFP content in VBS. not VBS content in OFP.
and BIA has bretty much the same intentions as BIS... unless Marek has sold BIA...

Quote ]Last but not least, the vbs1 special offer pack. here u can see fantastic textures and models we hopefully see again in ArmA. Also u can see the Piracy Protection - The USB CDKey Stick - VBS1 Special Offer $266

that would be 266 australian dollar....US = 199,00 http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

and I don't know if they will puplish ArmA but "Cenega CZ" has ArmA on his site with a RD for V.06

Hm these debates seem to come up far too often, with rumours and speculasion being thrown into the mixed too, adding more confusion to the new people that visit. I think one of the moderaters should make a new locked sticky topic listing all the 'hard' facts about Arma that have already been released into the community, and also a small explination of the differences between 'game 2' and Arma. As it seems far too often we get new people in here that get confused between the two and ask about release dates, has it been cancelled, isit the same game but with better graphics, is there backwards compatiblity, isnt it the same as 'game 2', are these screens Arma or 'game 2' etc....

Man, i just noticed how many posts i got http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wow_o.gif

THIS LOOKS AS GOOD AS IF NOT BETTER THAN GAME 2

...not too sure about that.
Have a look at these images i found (you may have seen them before but i hadn't)

Look at theses guys;
[im]http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/images/2005/138/914623_20050519_screen025.jpg[/img]>100kb

Now look at this fellow;
[im]http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/images/2005/138/914623_20050519_screen024.jpg[/img]>100kb

(note his shadow, looks good? But how come theres no shadow on the floor(!http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif)

It's things like this that make me think it may be worth hanging on untill 'flashpoint 2' is out.

maybe that is why they would call it..."under development".
or having shadows off?

The issue was cleared up months and months ago, it's a shame people don't regurgitate facts with their regurgitated news http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

The screenshots were early alpha, the shadow bug was noticed and fixed even before the screenshots went public, we left the missing shadow screenshot in during our E3 presentations to show the pics weren't photoshopped or edited in any way http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

First: Sorry i posted images that were too big. For future could you tell me what the max size is and the prefered size please?

Second: I wasn't putting BIS down, i was only saying that these early shots look pretty good, so when the next games does come out it should be fantastic.

Just check OFP:E on Xbox, there is your ArmA-lite-demo for you, in terms of AI and immersion (grass, sea, etc.). Now throw in full-blown mission editor, hires, viewdistance, no constructionpoints limit and you've a pretty good idea what ArmA will be like (yeah, fab!).

It's my .02 cents but i'm betting ArmA will be more a continuation of OFP:E than of OFP.

Anyway, i'm having a heck of a time with OFP:E, with hardly any nightrest since it came out end october 2005. Made a movie. OFP:E Lighthouse trailer, 7 mins (45MB) ... http://www.maxqubit.com/ofpe-lighthouse-trailer.avi

off topic, what did you expect? there isnt anything we'd call news to talk about.

about ontopic progress news, what are you saying? you know something the rest of us dont? how about you share, seeing that you know more on the subject then the rest of us.

This topic is going well off topic at the moment...I think we need some thing to pull us back on track:

What do we know so far?

We know;
there is a new game due to come out
it will have 'join in multi play'
it has a masive new island
it has the old islands from OFP (including nogova???)
it has a brand new campaign

We don't know;
when it'll come out
Who will publish it
it's offiicial release name
minimum spec
cost

Is that a fare recap??

Some more info I managed to scoop, not sure how official it is.

Quote ]
Armed Assault:
The old campaigns are included. There's a new island (Sara) larger than 100 km˛, where the new campaign takes place. Inspired by the korean situation there is an "evil" aggressive North and a "good" South which you'll support as an american soldier. The battles shall be huge, just like real life.
Battles in MP shall be larger too and can take multiple days in real life. That shouldn't pose a problem though, as you can join the battle anytime.
The AI shall be good , but it shall be easier for newbies by turning on green and red auras for friend and foe. Terrain won't be deformable because the devs are afraid the missions could be influenced negatively.
In game you shall be able to shoot through walls, casing, etc., you can hide from bullets behind house walls though, behind tarpaulins not. Ricochets shall pose a threat too.
In Multiplayer there shall be a commander who doesn't participate in battle.
The authors guess that the game is done by 3/4 and that the beginning of next year should be a realistic release date.

Many of those images are new to me BUT not new imho. Some look a lot older than the ones released on the Arma homepage. They also lack the "Armed Assault © 2006" watermark/branding on the bottom which suggests I'm right.

The textures, colour saturation, lighting etc look more like OFP:E than the most recent Arma screenshots.

Look here, i play OFPE 3+ months, i have missions with boats, and there ARE waves. Hell, when it is storming you nearly fall overboard. (Also tides ... come back a few hours later and the sealevel has changed:)

So, waves in OFPE mean waves in ArmA i should think. Proper waves. I don't see them in those pics.

And yes, real waves are super cool:) ... the immersion factor again is raised.

PS: I played a mission in which a heli was shot down over sea. The crew jumped and drowned. When i visited the beach later in the mission, one of the crew members was lying on the beach at the floodline. Now that is incredible!

Look, why don't ya all down my vid cap of a ofpe mission 'Lighthouse' @<hidden> http://www.maxqubit.nl/ofpe-lighthouse-trailer.avi (45MB)

You will see proper waves and the dead guy washed ashore at 5m45s in the trailer (well perhaps it was another dead guy, after inspecting the vid;). This is OFPE stuff so expect equal or better than this quality in ArmA.

Bottom line imho there are/will be proper waves in ArmA.

Better still, why don't you just check out OFPE (or as i call it ArmA-lite) ... one of a very few very rare occasions where a console version is actually better than a pc version:)

the third times' a charm

now having just watched it, I must say, aside from the console controller that I dislike, I am willing to agree that OFPE is just grand!
I thought you seemed a little clumsy working though the command menus, I wonder how much of that is controller related. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

thanks again for the mirror http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/inlove.gif

I think the menu with the controller is done very, very good! But of course there are so many possibilities that you sometimes have to navigate more than you would wish.

So, i think the controller/menu thing can't be bettered but i will agree that a keyboard will give you much quicker access to menuitems.

Apart from that i LOVE the controller. It is so versitile. I know kb+m aims quicker but OFP(E) is more about tactics and thinking than about 'aiming quick' so it poses no problem for me. And in fact you fly a heli much better with a controller than with kb+m.

As i said. Regard OFP:E as ArmA-lite and you start to have an idea what fab ArmA will be:):)

Heatseeker. Nah, i think i was wrong there. There was already a dead comrade on the shore. Bodies don't float i think, but boats of course DO:) and they will float away by the waves and/or the wind (i'm not sure if both have influence) if left alone. Also i left some soldiers on an island only to find them drowned because the sealevel had risen because of the tide.

All in all in OFPE the AI has trouble with water aspects. Drowning, not able to land properly with a boat, etc. I hope ArmA will improve this, because e.g. AI landing with boats is quite cool.

But already in OFPE the water aspect is done quite good. Make a night mission, in bad weather and play invasion/insertion with a boat ... it is fun, the waves. You nearly throw up:)

@<hidden> Kite ... sounds? I really don't notice, which can be a good sign. If you don't notice it it is because it is probably like real. So yes i think there are nice wave/water sounds ... i will check it:)

I agree. All of the islands in the origianl felt a bit void of human life. The playground adds atmos.

The playground is a great example of something to give a town its individual character and something that could become a bit annoying if used all over the place.

So use sparingly BIS, or use lots of variations.

OFP:E isn't a sales success i fear. But that for the most part the 'fault' of the xbox gamers. The majority just do not dig the depth and sim qualities of the game. But the 360 introduction wasn't a big help either:(

There's this game being developed in the Ukraine called STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. It was due to be released in October, 2003. Can you imagine? The same year as Call of Duty, Halo, and Knights of the Old Republic. AND it's been scheduled to be released several times a year since then... As far as I remember, Flashpoint 2 was originally scheduled for release in June 2006. THis was before the Codemaster split. Now, I understand the Codemaster retain the Flashpoint title, and still intend to release a game called Flashpoint2.

Now Armed Assault has been anounced and the most recent indications show that it is also scheduled for June(H1) 2006 release....

Can we expect the offical Flashpoint 2 to go head to head with the 'Real' Flashpoint sequal (AKA Armed Assault) ?

Edit1: I can't find the 2006 info yet, but here is an anouncement that says 2004 (http://www.codemasters.co.uk/press/?showarticle=3376)
I'll keep looking though...I'm sure i read 2006 somewere

You guys speculate too much.

I think they are aiming for an E3 promotional gig - little iin the way of screenshots means keeping stuff under raps. Those screenshots we have seen have seen LARGE improvements.

With E3 the studio gets a lot more launch hype than a few lucky magazine articles here or there.

Armed assault won't be a medeocre improvement on flashpoint, it will be a majorly improved version (and as far as I think it is they will try and develope game 2 afterwards) It will concentrate a lot on the gameplay & playability as opposed to perfect graphics to test the market for a flashpoint 2. There arn't very many games like it out there.

All I can see so far is that the developers are keeping to more or less a sensible operating plan, indeed setting up and running these forums is just another part of the business implementation plan - to establish a forum, and hold off the gimmicks until that time.

Once you split from the publisher, and you have a solid game, you want to ensure it's success. Just because someone is hanging out to play the game bad and has litterally seen only a few screenshots and are whipping themselves up into a speculative frensy, almost threatening self harm and demanding more - that would make a physchiatrist rub their hands together with prospective future clients at hand. is not a reason to keep us up to date and spoil the release or get bogged down listning to a community that probably won't ever be satisfied.

I think they do have some business acumen about them and I think the final product will be great.

Chill out guys...

All they doing is keeping to a business plan.

Well, as far as Soldner is concerned, that's where ArmA will win hands down. Soldner did originally ship with a singleplayer campaign, but the AI was so bad that the devs gave up on it and concentrated purely on the the multiplayer instead... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

It wouldn't make any difference about the competition that was always out there from the beggining altering any promotional aspects IMHO. Flashpoint is an established name along with BI with specific genre of games. Getting signatures and iimpressing guru's is the idea of E3. The more they have to impress the better. However, like said, I wouldn't be wasting my paid time trying to keep up with possible demands from the community etc. They've had since 2001 to look at the game and I have no doubt they have. They are a business like any other - they need to apportion time to the stuff that really matters, and they've had more than a few years experience of marketing.

Lets look at it from a truthfull point of view. until things are wholly developed ready for launch, why put the cart before the horse. I certainly wouldn't. If you put the cart before the horse it drags you downhill till you crash in an untidy mess IMHO.

They could be sheep. Looking at the original pic (http://ofp.gamepark.cz/news/pics3/ArmA_Progress_12.jpg) it's somewhat far away and they could've been reduced by LOD. Plus they're fenced in and theres a big hay bail on the other side of the barn.
If they were sheep’s I think BIS would inform us.
No clue why other members take everything as joke! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/nener.gif

The point about the LODs is a good one and the fact that each one is slightly different in shape and size.

And why would BIS want to inform us that they were sheep?
They don't inform us of very much else! We know VBS has sheep and are quite realistic from the video I've seen. It would be cool for them to implement these sheep to ArmA http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif .

If it is Autumn, then all that "H1 2006" was just a crock to placate the community.
This game is becoming Stalker like in its development progress, whats the betting it gets to Autumn and they decide that xmas would be a better release date.

Oh goody, more screens and a movie in may.
What did we do to desrve such a treat, I must put the date in my diary.
BIS have done bugger all to satiate peoples interest in the game, the last interview they gave consisted of mainly "possibly" "maybe" and "we are thinking about it" answers and was for all intents and purposes a waste of time.
You would think that with the interest this game generated, and the community that has built up they would want to keep the pot bubbling away nicely. Instead all you get is a few screenshots and delayed release's.

Here's to Xmas 2006, by which time they may just be designing the box art!

To me, "switching among groups during mission" does not mean switching bodies, but rather, group leaders (so if you start as a member of group Alpha Black, you can join group Alpha Red mid-mission if you want).

That has to mean that you'll be able to play as more than one solider during a mission. I mean, switching groups during a mission has been possible since June 2001.

In my eyes it could be a welcome addition to Ofp. But if they use it in the campaign it would have to be done with style and in modest amounts. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/firefoxlover.gif

Not as default, and if you did it as in ECP then you usually fucked a mission and could restart, i think that it is actually supported now (for example:when your squad is killed you dont have to run around on your own, but just join another group, or when you are too lazy to wlak you can join that group that has a truck, etc)
