Maybe it's because they can't use the name Operation Flashpoint?
So why show off a game which has no relationship with the name (Operation) Flashpoint? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/icon_rolleyes.gif

Game 2 is quite a mystery, anounced at the same time as Armed Assault,or atleast the images released, early beta of course, however we have seen some video footage showing foilage,a vehicle (UH-1Y) and a soldier model bending and whatnot,a beach with rocks and some other things, yet not much is known, the game is a mystery and I can't help but wonder why we hear so much about AA when we don't on game2?
We did hear a bit about game2's more rpg aspects, such as being able to piss off a fellow soldier, even AI,I saw an image and I'm not sure if their going to be using a typed answer or the multiple answer choice option.
Either they are not working on Game2 all that much or they are being very careful that we get little info about it,which isn't really such a bad thing.

I can't help but wonder why we hear so much about AA when we don't on game2?
Because ArmA is about to be released, so BIS wants us to focus on that, instead of a game which will come out in 2008 (and possibly later) http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

You might have a point there..but I wouldn't think too much on it,but it is possible...screenshots have become more in quantity than before,I mean when the v2 of Armed Assault was anounced we didn't see more new screens for a few months or so,now their just popping up every other day...Hmm..

Glad somebody is,it seems like most have just been seeing what they see in the screens and not visualizing what is possible with the modding ability of AA.
As for game2,I wouldn't expect it too soon, the rpg system their workin on and who knows what is probably pretty difficult, their trying to make the voices work better and make i more than a 2 or 3 answer thing, atleast thats what I saw in the image.

Actually, his real name is Eric Banadinovich (or Banadinovic), he shortened his name for obvious reasons, it's too long for showbiz. His father is a Croat, thus the strange surname.

I like this (http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/action/armedassault/screenindex.html)
Its the screenshots on gamespot. At the bottom are the first screenies, back when ArmA was just OFP 1.5, moving up to the top we can see how much ArmA has progressed and is now looking to be a truely unique and wonderful game.
After watching the new trackir vid i was impressed, not about the trackir itself but the game looks very nice http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif, i definetly don´t think that Armed Assault looks weak in the graphics department.

I really like the TrackIR video. One question though - how is terrain drawn. In BF2 for instance, you hide in grass and think you're covered but an enemy 50m away from you doesn't see the grass as it's not rendered on his machine. Will this be the same?
Low/High detail level differences?

After seeing this video I don't really know. The screenshots we have seen didn't have as much foliage as in the video but don't expect to much. Maybe they can make the soldiers not being rendered when they are in the grass.
Oh, this video is the best ArmA footage I have seen yet, and still it is from the E3 build!

I'd prefer something in between. To not render the grass AND the soldier would be bad - you need some idea at least of where an enemy *might* be firing from.
Consider a flat empty landscape with one small area of long grass. The enemy soldier is hiding in that grass and starts firing at you. In real life you would reasonably assume that the patch of long grass is the only place someone could hide. If you can't see the long grass or the soldier then you've no idea which way to run, or which direction to return fire.
If a lower quality grass was drawn along with not rendering the enemy that would probably work.
In OFP:E the grass was never tall enough or dense enough to hide in, even if lying down. Yes you would be looking through the grass but your back and top of head would expose you. The latest footage from Arma shows much taller, much denser grass/weeds so I would think BIS have found a way to address the problems.
Perhaps the colours of the soldier are matched to the ground texture at his position, more or less according to the amount of cover he gets from the grass. This would decrease visibility of the soldier even without drawing the actual grass.
And for the computers where the grass does get drawn, the soldiers colour is not altered, so the grass functions as the cover.

yeah like with the alt key? And i hope us non IR can lean.
Edit* The grass is a problem in all games it seems, I dont know but didn't Joint Ops have an effeciant way of dealing with it?

I sure hope its not like that. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/mad_o.gif
That's the way it was done in Delta force TFD, and IMHO was a great compromise, as you still had to really look for the target, but did not waste power with detailed grass. There was just a 'ghost' of the players form, which gave decent camoflage in a system that was not sophisticated enough to 'do it right'.

Looking at the video again, from 1:38 onwards the grass is not drawn very far at all. When the camera swivels around the player you can see the small circular patch around the player where the grass is in detail.

Gossip from SimHQ:
Bohemia Interactive Australia will be releasing two stand alone games from their online store within weeks. It is currently not known if this is via download or disk purchase. The first is VBS1 Lite, (VBS1 is the military grade of OFP), VBS1 lite is a lessor product without all the additional modules and tools. I have been testing this VBS1 Lite for a week now, and it is a very nice stand alone game, a nice hold over till Armed Assault is officially released. It is not confirmed yet, but VBS1 Lite is estimated to be about 25 US dollars. ALSO, They will be releasing another stand alone game, titled "Australians in Vietnam", this is based on the same engine. I have been trying it out for a week now also, and it looks to be a very nicely done single player (noticed there is no network option) stand alone game, and for an estimated price of 20 US dollars. Please be advised that this has not been officially announced or confirmed yet, but more information is coming very soon. I have shared a VBS1 Lite AAR titled Convoy Escort and Hostage Rescue. I have also shared some screenshots from the Australians in Vietnam game.
Thx neuro for the info.

The pictures are of the quality that photobucket would allow but you can still see the small patch of grass that is drawn around the player which wont look very good when moving if grass is suddenly disappearing and reapperaing right infront of you. Unfortunately in this part of the video the player does not actually move so we can not tell if this hypothesis is correct.

BIA has not (yet) made a official statement that is to be made public on VBSlite. However they have given permisison to reveal the link to the "Australians in Vietnam" site (actually today).
http://www.australiansinvietnam.com/
Any other conclusions or informations is rumours at the moment and people should wait for the official BIA news on this.
Quote[/b] ]Only the VBS1 programm WITHOUT modules (like terrainpacks or soldiers..ect.) and tools..
This is also not correct.
It is a standalone build, no networking, limited editors functions etc. It is NOT a module for VBS and it is not the VBS core.
As for Track-IR in ArmA,
this sure looks to be very...very nice.
I ordered my stuff already from eDimensional (https://edimensional.com/product_info.php?ref=320&products_id=106) togehter with the wireless 3D glasses...:mock:
The latest video shows off quite a lot of goodies. Very nice indeed !
I've been quite impressed by the TrackIR system. I'm wondering right now if eDimension 3D glasses can be used together with a TrackIR system ?
This could completely change and enhance the gaming experience ! Just imagine turning your head and seeing the whole world in 3D ? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/inlove.gif

I'm not holding out too much hope that ArmA will be released this year at all to be honest. If they don't do it in October, they wont try and compette with what ever the X-Box or Playstation pull out of theire sleeves.

yes they work with Track-IR cause a mate of mine uses both in VBS already. Well TIR isn't fully supported in VBS but both together works fine. And why shouldn't it... would be silly if the products wouldn't allow interaction...and who from BIS said it will be released in October??
nobody i would have thought. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
there is no way its gonna be out until spring 07. and probably after e3 07. imho
Well, the Polish Publisher has apparently said October. Bis have said all along that the publisher would give the official date. So if the publisher is saying Oct 2006 ...
I won't lay money on an Oct release but for the first time I'm not going to be so quick to dismiss it. It's seemingly not an estimate by BIS or an unofficial guess by the media.
The game is for all intents complete and although BIS continue to improve it whilst they wait for a publisher, they won't continue to delay it now a publisher is signed (They need to start making a return after all). If they haven't signed an international publisher soon I forsee them releasing just in Poland and then continuing to work on the game while they wait, providing patches for the Polish version when an international release comes.

well, to be releasing this in october ArmA would have to be done "gold" first, then send off to be pressed on "silver". Then send off to be packaged and then send of to the puplisher. After that be distributed to the retailers...catch my drift. If they can do all this in just about 2 months (asuming BIS has a gold disk already) then http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif and I be http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif

Well I've seen games and software go from gold to the shops in a week to ten days. In fact that seems to be fairly normal. What often delays the actual release in the case of games is allowing stock to build up in shops and giving shops time to inventory, price and stack shelves so that it is available in every outlet on release day. The actual manufacture, packaging and distribution is fast these days.

wait, wait, wait....
We're getting two new official BIS/BIA stand alone games (VBS1 Lite and Australians in Vietnam) before ArmA!?
That's fantastic!
Shouldn't they each get their own categories in the forum?
Also, if they are made available via online purchase/download system (a la steam), could that be a precursor of a potential distribution system for ArmA (and no need for a US publisher)?!
kinda odd, we never heard a flashnews about it or even an official rumor. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif

Releasing a buggy game would never be a good idea. It's never going to be perfectly bug free, but BIS still shouldn't just release an unfinished game.

I have an idea.
In ArmA or Game2's manual, BI should include a section with brief lessons in basic tactics that would come in handy in-game. This is like the Skip Barber racing lesson in Gran Turismo 3's manual and the lessons in the manual for Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator. They could even include quoted tips from real soldiers in the same way that the Combat Flight Simulator's manual contained tips from former WWII pilots.
Most people that will play ArmA, including me, have no real life military experience nor do we know the first thing about combat tactics. Given any situation, I would like to decide on a course of action that a real soldier might take under similar circumstances. A little introductory lesson could get us started on the right foot. After all, "knowing is half the battle", right?

The L1A1 (better known as the SLR - Self Loading Rifle). Based on the FN FAL, but made at the Lithgow Small Arms Factory in Australia. It was single shot only (but could be modified for full auto fire, which the SASR did).
Was also known as the "slur" and to the SASR it was "the bitch".

Because "that big french company" and "OFP2" have nothing to do with BI. Game 2 is being developed under their [BI's] own influence and in their own time.
OFP2 or Operation Flashpoint 2 is being developed (supposedly) by Codemasters (last time I checked, they weren't french) not BI.
Oh, and why does everyone always want things yesterday? Its not like ArmA means life or death if it doesn't come out in the next month or so. Most of Europe has been having some fantastic weather recently, I suggest people go and enjoy it. I know I have.

Unfortunatley i only had the privelige of using the SLR for about 4 months as in 1987 the SA80 was introduced, which seems like a looooong time ago. My first posting was to NI and i hadn't even been trained to use the SLR, so when i was doing top-cover in a landrover i accidently "dropped" my magazine onto the road. A little embarrising to say the least. But the fact i knew the SA80 inside out and the majority of my battilion had no idea how to even attach the sling was a comfort, especially when i could skip the lessons http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif .......

Lol? Whats so funny about that?
Game 2 is the supposed true OFP sequal, being worked on by Bohemia Interactive but at the same time,a seperate team that is not working on Armed Assault. It is more of a deeper infantry sim, with possible rpg elements and more things we have yet to hear of,I don't want to give any false info so I will stop there as we do not know much about it,just hopes.
Armed Assault was supposed to be OFP:E on PC,but due to unable to find a publisher BIS began to work on it some more and it became what it is today, which is much better. It sports new abilities that were not availible in OFP such as multiple gunner positions and various new scripts (I don't deal in coding so I can't tell you what it all does.) Aside from that the game is supposed to be able to handle more than OFP itself in terms of model detail,or atleast work with it better. Texturers will get the ability to add normal maps to their model which can make 2D texture pieces appear 3D which save alot in faces/polygons. It also has things such as dynamic shadows which is a large plus on the graphic scale, nothing is better than seeing an object cast a shadow on itself and others.
Aside from that the weather system is more dynamic,it support IR tracker and has smoother animations and much more.
VBS1 is military training software developed by BIS (Austrailia I believe),very similiar to OFP atleast in appearence. It is pretty expensive but isn't supposed to be something that you just go out and buy at the store. I can't give any real details on it as I have not played it so I don't know what it is capable of,its pluses or minuses.
OFP2 is the 'sequal' to OFP that is apparently being developped by Codemasters, though details are still sketchy at best, its supposedly vietnam based but nobody knows for sure, there were some images of "OFP2" released that bore the BI insignia in the corners so we have no idea if its true or false, game 2 exists,OFP2 is still speculative.
But either way,game2 will be OFP2 to OFP fans because BI made it.

Game2 will be using the same engine as VBS2 will.
And here is a review of VBS2 at this years ITEC in London:
VBS Review by Wildgoose (http://www.virtualbattlespace.info/index.php?ind=reviews&op=entry_view&iden=1) .So this gives you a "small idea" what will be in Game2.
Quote[/b] ]The soldier could interact with objects and Ai. It looked like all objects actually weigh something.
In the demo the soldier walked to a table and looked at a piece of paper on the table, an inventory box popped up and gave details of this object ie contents of letter and its total weight!
Looks like everything has a weight, and if you carry too much you will soon become fatigued!
The demo showed interaction with Ai soldiers in its early stages also. simple Hello, goodbyes, what time is it, where you been, where you going, what you seen etc....
ArmA could be seen as a "in between" OFP & Game2 imho.
The engine has been updated a lot for ArmA and I bet people will love this.
VBS1 is (as mentioned above) the military version of OFP.
It is developed by BIA in Australia and the Lead Developer is Seventh. The engine has been improved over OFP but not like for ArmA and Game2/VBS2. You find a lot of details about the different BI products and links on the Bohemia Community Wikki Website (http://community.bistudio.com)

Why dont we call it ArmA2 from now on?
Reason being Codemasters own Operation:Flashpoint and are working on the official OFP2.
ArmA was originally a kind of OFP v 1.5 but now seems to have developed into a game of its own rights and there for should stand alone as ArmedAssault v 1.
Game2 is, technically, an unofficial sequel to OFP by the original developers and is an advancement on ArmA which, as i said, is a stand alone game.
Therefor Game2 could be refered to as ArmedAssault 2 cutting down confusion for Noobs...what do you think? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif

Yup,its as if when you walk the soldiers fingers wrap tighter around the weapon, atleast that one, kind of misses the old OFP touch however,no movement in arm, yaknow, the forward and backward..but it was shown with the M4 so I figure its still there, hopefully. OFP wouldn't be OFP if the characters body never moved in first person, aka painted on appearing.

Yeah, i was concerned with that too.
While watching the other, longer, vids you see the left arm and gun are almost static. Hope this has been sorted.
One of the things I liked in VBS videos is that you can move freely inside of moving vehicles/choppers. Hopefully, Arma will have that too.

That really depends on how the model and its geometry are made. you see you can in a way 'cheat' it.
Say its a CH-47,when it comes to geometry, you model it with a hole for the inside,so its not a solid object. By doing so you will be able to walk inside of it,and collision detection is better so your not going to go through the outside of it....to be honest I wonder why nobody has tried that on OFP. I think its because of geometry limit or somethin. I could be wrong and probably am but by using that method I think it would be possible.
The physics aren't up to snuff in OFP in a vehicle. Lets see... Your X/Y position would want to remain, so you slide around as your Z changes, some vehicles don't lift off the ground and cause a crash, and (of course) you run the risk of falling through the model. any others?
Hope some of these are fixed in ArmA. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

in Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising it's possible.
you can drive with one or two HMMWV inside a CH-47 and also 10-20 players (if they fit alltogether) :-)
this ability would be great in ArmA

As for the vehicle, yes,in movement you run the risk of that. I remember me and a few friends trying it with the C-130's,I would either be ejected out..or...ejected out...But with fixed collision this runs a lesser factor and more possibilities.
Only thing is that it may not be possible to stand still in the moving vehicle,or atleast not easily or efficiently, guess we'll wait to see.

The question is : Is this normal to run around a back of a chopper when its in flight. Does the army get a football game going in the back?

See the thing is thats not a hummer to begin with.
Anyways I hope with multple-gunner positions being possible in ArmA, that we can shoot out the windows of vehicals like hummers, and bmps. I don't expect it to come with the game but I think a modder could do it.
You could do it with BAS's MH47E (Get it (http://www.ballisticaddonstudios.com/classic.php))
You can't move in flight, but it does allow you to provide sniper fire from on height in hover.
It also allows you to store jeeps and bikes in the back.

I wonder where professional game developpers take the boldness to make such ugly and obviously unaccurate vehicles. I don't know what the thing driving out of the heli is, but the heli itself, although it resembles the silhouette of a chinook certainly doesn't look like one up close. The dimensions, the shape, everything seems to be wrong. You could get accurate line drawings and walkarounds with a 5-minute search on google.

Thats why http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif
certainly its all bout the $
Nova chooses to use bare minimum.. its been relavent for years
when it comes to models
what they did is, they have incorporated the vehicles very well.. like some squads take advantage of massive airdrops over opfor bases from a chinook loaded with vehicles and ground units
or anti tank teams flying around on littlebirds taking out ground targets with at4's or tanks with javelins.
sure its not realistic but it is only as game, not a sim
this is what i'm used to from playing Joint Ops and looking forward to seeing in ArmA, is that the ability to use the vehicles for more than just transport or cover will make this game even better if we are able to fire from multiple locations in/on the vehicles themselves and not being limited to bmp's strykers or tanks with multiple firing positions.

Actually, its just as much about engine trade offs as it is about the "evil money making corporations"
They dont put the time (and therefore the money) into researching their content as thoroughly as us 3rd party modders do. Simply because to do so would cost far too much, when 90% of the players arent going to know or notice.

What other companies go to the lengths that BIS do for their artwork? They OWN a T-72 for christs sake...
Compared to most other compaines who will do a cursory search of the internet for information, BIS appears to actually dedicate some decent time into making sure their representations are as accurate as the engine will allow. Yes, mistakes still happen, but within the scope of the project thats both expected and acceptable.

But they are doing an excellent job,I can't really agree with the troll on this one. BIS is different in the fact that they aren't releasing the stuff as soon as its possible to be released. Alright lets look at one of the worlds if not worlds largest video gaming company,EA. Thousands of workers, usually overworked without compensation. Now they do great jobs in their fields to be sure,my dislike for EA is not everyone in the company, but the ones that think they run it,aka the higher ups. The programmers and designers are just doing their jobs, while the other tell them what to do or fuck up. But anyway...lots of games have been released from them, alot of sports...damn sports man,one after another,an improve in graphics and thats about it. $50 for each sports game when one is just a simple advancement over the other? (either that or we are overcharged here). I saw alot of games have mods for them on their community, and afterwards but a few days later,an expansion popped out of nowhere, many times over and over. BIS could have used this method, but instead they have not attempted to make any expansions to contradict community made addons, they encourage modding whereas others seem to discourage it.

c'mon some guys can't face it that Bis tries to make Quality games and not quantity games like Fifa or Nhl or BF series or half-life or quake series, sure those games can be fun but only usually for a short time. After a while you search and search for something more mature but still with room for mods and addons and user made content to fill in the blanks or flesh out the original game in all different areas and genres.

Why are you still here? You have absolutely nothing positive to say about ArmA or BIS, so.. uh.. why do you stick around?
You say negativity, I say realism. I don't hate ArmA, or BIS, but I am not gonna close my eyes and ears and go "lalalala it'll be great lalalala". I want to put this topics out so they can be addressed. The problem is, people want to think "Oh, BIS are these "hip" "good" developers who will do this this and this." But in reality, BIS are developers, and they are there to make money. And, exactly what is wrong with that? People think BIS is somehow different because "Oh they made realistic game [not really] thus they are cooler and superior then those RARRR MAINSTREAM DEVELOPERS RARR".
Why should these be addressed? Because I don't want these fanboys coming out, when the game is realeased and cry "O MY GOD, BIS WHAT DID YOU DO? BIS is horrible, boo you suck" just because a couple things were changed.
As well, negativity, or as I say realism, is not against the rules.
If you're so intent on having a game designed your way go make your own. Quit nitpicking and go sit by a beach - it's summer.
Ukraineboy were you disapointed with OFP when it came out? think the same way when they release arma. The creators know what they are doing. Don't worry too much. I would be more concern when..

Ukraineboy I'm sure the whole community will be happy with Armed Assault I mean how can you not be after seeing all the improvements BIS has made since it's announcement.
And If there are some bugs or realism issues. They of course will be addressed with a patch or the modding community will take care of it. No one will be booing them but rather seeing how to fix it.
For example look at the change log of the first OFP patch v1.10
http://ofp.gamepark.cz/patches/patch110en.txt
I'll post a few.
Quote[/b] ]
* Customised faces can now be inserted for use in multi-player games, in JPG format.
* Weapon shadows now reflect the actual weapon held.
* Fixed - Sports car speedometer moving in the wrong direction.
* Multiplayer - Fixed - Vehicle shaking problem.
* Fixed - Problems with prone soldiers invulnerable to being run over.
What I'm trying to say is no game is perfect at release. Even though BIS will have the game tested by dozens of people before launch. Some bugs will still get through and the community is BIS's best bug finder same with anyother developers. So for right now just let them finish the damn game without having to say something like "No BIS you can't release the game without custom face support" or something because it will be fixed with a patch just like the first OFP and most everyother game.
I think UkraineBoy's opinion would represent casual gamers who would care for eye candy only. But I don't blame him, he is just a realist. On my part, I believe BIS will deliver a great product, and many interested people will buy. Ive told a lot of people about this game, and most of them like it.

I wont get it unless....
Has the gfx of the crye or unreal engine.....
They make this game on HLA (high level architecture) & DIS so I cna use other HLA products (sims) to interact with ArmA.
Get rid of this tiny maps and make a 42.000km globe. and I must be able to be ready to deploy my marines anywhere on that globe within 48h.
Of course it needs to be a "VR build" and the game itself must be AI (not the units). So it will learn form data you can add form encyclopedias and wikipedia.
Of course this globe must have also civillian life. not only in crisis regions, but also in all other countries. so when I'm on leave I can visit my family and ...... my missus. say about 6519 billion people on the whole globe. plus animals etc of course.

ohh yeah, and it must have real economics, people working in civilian jobs. banks, bars, clubs, restaurants etc....
So I don't thinkit will be released any time soon..... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/nener.gif

But in reality, BIS are developers, and they are there to make money.
Actually, from what I have seen of interviews and from personal conversations with artists at BIS, Marek is more interested in making his dream come true than making a fast and easy buck.
Thats why he coded Posideon, thats why he started OFP, and thats why he continues to push his engines. Why else would he spend time coding AI for butterflies, dogs, birds and other animals when they could be scripted like they are in every other game which features them? Why is he trying to get the dynamic conversation system working, rather than using a few dozen pre-recorded conversations? [like Oblivion]
Its because he's more interested in pushing both his own limits and the limits of the technology. If he [and his brother] were interested in making money, we would have seen more "expansion packs" like Resistance, and the developer tools would not have been released until 3 or 4 years after the games initial release. Much like EA works.

Oh, I'm not saying he isn't out to make money, that would be ridiculous. What I'm saying is that he is not driving BIS along the recognised franchise route. I.e. take a popular title, and continually expand it.
Yes, I use "evil" EA as an example, because they are a perfect example.
BattleField for example. BF1942 was popular, so they made BF Vietnam, since that was what was popular at the time. Same gameplay mechanics, same roles, same everything bar content. Then they released BF2, that was popular because people knew BF1942 and BF 'Nam. Then they started expanding BF2. First you had Special Forces which added a few new sides and handful of weapons and maps. Then there was Euro Forces, which was essentially a re-skin job, and again with Armored Fury both of which adding very little content to the game and fragmenting the community. However, every release earned EA money as players in their 1000's bought up all these addon packs. And now they have the xbox port of BF2 - "BF:Modern Combat" and are working on BF2142...
BIS/Codemasters could quite easily have gone this route. Infact they did. There was Resistance. But unlike other companies, thats where they stopped. It could have been quite easy for them to keep on selling addons, but instead they introduced everything other than Res for FREE. Thats right, F-R-E-E, when pretty much all of OFP's competitors are charging for extra content. Doesnt seem like the actions of a man out to make a fast buck to me...
Well, I would bet that it wont be finished in time...features are dropped in games plenty of times
Animals as a selling point? No, IMMERSION is the selling point, and that can be achieved with scripted animals. Using BF2 as an example, it has scripted birds - birds which fly away when you run near "them" (actually just a spawn point) and they have flies - a pixel shader which just randomly buzzes flies around the player. Which actually works, and it works quite nicely. But Mr. Spanel wants more than that, he wants his animals to act like real animals, to have real life cycles and to react properly to human interaction [like firing rifles] something which adds to the immersion way more than a flock of scripted birds could.
Its because he's more interested in pushing both his own limits and the limits of the technology. If he [and his brother] were interested in making money, we would have seen more "expansion packs" like Resistance, and the developer tools would not have been released until 3 or 4 years after the games initial release. Like it or not, thats how EA works. Its the truth, and nothing can be done about it. If you fear their desire to kill your mother and eat babies, then I can only assume that our good friend old-Soviet-Propaganda is at work. They are a corporation and they are out to make money. They do that buy running a franchise until no one is interested in it anymore. This can be seen in any numbe of their titles - the BF series, the NFL, NBA, NFS and any number of other franchises which have seen luke-warm reheats of old engines and the tinyist of updates to content year after year.
As for my knowledge of the industry, I don't pretend to know anything about you, please do not pretend you know anything about me. The industry standard formula for making money is to take a popular franchise (and lets not forget that OFP is a million seller) and run with (bi)annual updates until death. That could have easily been the case with OFP, lord knows that Codemasters is just as guilty of this annual update plague as EA.

They are a corporation and they are out to make money.
And there you have it, you proved my point with BIS as well. They are a developer, and they are out to make money. What's wrong with that?
Also, your comment about me being a troll could technically be against the rules, i.e. insulting...I have not called you anything yet, yet you continue to call me a troll? What kind of debate do you insult your opposition? Poor form.
Hmm let's put it this way; BIS is a corporation that wants to make money. And they realize that the best way to make money is to create the best games ever http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Quote[/b] ]Why else would he spend time coding AI for butterflies, dogs, birds and other animals when they could be scripted like they are in every other game which features them?
Because BIS can't afford to buy insanely expensive engine licenses that would only fit 20% of their need? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
I agree on pretty much everything else you said though.
Quote[/b] ]People think BIS is somehow different because "Oh they made realistic game [not really] thus they are cooler and superior then those RARRR MAINSTREAM DEVELOPERS RARR".
Or may it be that people mean BIS is a better developer than most others because of the support they give to their game? None, or at least very few, of the games produced by mainstream developer get good support from their developers. They may get a patch now and then, but BIS continued to support their game long after any other developer would. BIS gives the community programs to create new content for the game, while most other games get a crappy editor that's worth shit.
Oh, and tell me this. BIS is just out to make money, right? How come they released a patch which enables the game to be played without the CD? That's not very smart if they just want money, right? After that people didn't have to buy the game anymore, just borrow a copy of the game and install the patch. If they were just out to make money, wouldn't it be smart to not do this, so people would have at least a bit harder time getting the game for free, as this would probably make them earn some extra money?
They are a corporation and they are out to make money.
And there you have it, you proved my point with BIS as well. They are a developer, and they are out to make money. What's wrong with that?
You're not reading my posts... Or you're only reading the parts you want to see. I've said over and over that there is nothing wrong with that. But in the bigger picture, BI is NOT making games with the sole intent of making money. They are making games in order to realise Marek and Ondrej's dreams. Why is that so hard for you to understand?
Because BIS can't afford to buy insanely expensive engine licenses that would only fit 20% of their need?
I don't think they NEED those "insanely expensive engine licenses" The Real Virtuality engine is possibly one of the most powerful out there, and it makes much more sense for BI to use an engine that they wrote themselves and are therefore familiar with its intracacies.
SniperAndy
Aug 7 2006, 01:50
ehmmmm UkraineBoy,
BI could buy a DEV license for nearly anything on the market. I don't know what you know, but Marek could afford a Unreal Enterprise License 10 times over dude.
Or they stick with what they own already and take that to the next level. And that's well past the Unreal or Crye engine as you would know if you would have been at ITEC in London and if you've seen the VBS2 presentation that will use the Game2 version of the Real Virtuality Engine...(afaik)
meyamoti
Aug 7 2006, 04:31
Thats how engines work, some people just work on it till they get somethin better, nothin wrong with working on your own stuff to get it to work better or as far as you can or want it to.
As for the money, yes BISwants to make a buck, but that is not their priority, thats how it goes, they spend alot of time to create this game for you,it wouldn't be sensible to hand out free copies of the final product to everyone. A kind thing yes but foolish as well, money is needed for business to work, without money there is no business, the tradeoff.
But at the same time money is not their sole intent.

But serieus. I got the game from the very beginning, with all the expansion packs. Now a day, my resitence cd is going crapy.
I had to download a illegal one, in order to install it on my new pc. (I also got the original)
I have been tracking the upgrade sinds the released in some press message that there will be a second release. But alway that empty flashpoint2 website. Remeber release date end of 2002 http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif
5 Years is a long, long time to be waiting for a game. Expections are ultra high, and now a days we all get horny when there is a pic or a video of what is to become.
Release dates had been published and ..... (I woun'd go there)
In other words, I am getting serieus frustated (Like a lot of gents here) and the current release data (end will be reach in one mounth) can no longer be taken serieus. (Publisher wants to advertise for there upcomming games, and that will take 2 to 3 mounth to plan and execute)
So gents, set you minds for a release data of end 2007, that way you are supprised if it comes sooner. (November, December maby ?)
Just my frustated two cents.
