I still dont see how the graphics are bad,I think their just blind or something, seriously.
Just compare them to crisis, then the world looks empty and ugly http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
I know i know, the scale of ArmA beats the hell out of crysis, and ArmA doesnt kill your PC, but try to hammer that into the heads of Non-ofpers http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
I can compare this situation to a Mod for BF2 - Project Reality - completely different gameplay, strive for realism, slower pace, no ramboing possible.
Not SO many played it or liked it, nonetheless those that did were mostly the mature and friendly part of the community http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Prolly because modded servers are not ranked.
For some strange reason people love to grind, its a mechanism well known in MMORPGs and since the succes of WoW it seems developers of other multiplayer games are adopting it aswell http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Ask a BF player how did the game go last evening, and you will hear "oh I gained XY points / rank / whatever" more often than "we had a great game with a good team".

And how many games can really be on par with Crisis?
And yeah..its kinda sad these days how people look mostly at graphics over gameplay and things you can do really...
Eye on appearence comment,I must say that AA has the sexiest blackhawk I'v seen yet, both model and textures, its not bland really.
Problem in terms of graphics and some such is that the community seem sto be thinking, once more gonna say it,inside the box, what they see and not what lies ahead. Water has moving waves and is semi transparent, more depending on the weather, waves also depend on weather,so perhaps water will be more editable, rivers MAY BE POSSIBLE due to static water being able to be animated. (OFP:E reference) And with sound effects. And I believe BIS said they would release tutorials when or before the game comes out along with the tools, perhaps a hint showing that they want the community to do what they want?

Hopefully bunny hoopers will stay in BF2 and similiar arcade crap... ArmA for dedicated, our team will definitely award serious milsimers and punish players that don't respect teamplay, tactics, etc.
yeah! Oh god, please keep them there and not here! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif

Seconded, lest I be forced to add my character a "strokegun" weapon when my "team" are doing dolphin dives and prone-jumps out of cover, and circle strafing tanks.
Sit <whack> the <whack> f**k <whack> down! <whack>
I do believe there is no capacity in ArmA to do any of those things... So I guess I'd kinda freak if I saw them. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif
except strokegun.. that needs to stay in! (maybe changed to a backhand smack)

I hope that the AI can use strokegun properly this time, its pretty funny to see them strokefghting eachother http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Really funny to see how all you armchair generals think you're better than the average bf2 player only because you play a game which is in some aspects a tiny bit more accurate. Actually the only difference between for instance OFP CTF and BF2 CTF is that OFP gameplay is much slower. The players aren't more mature and teamplay and discipline are rare in both games (at least on public servers).
wrong thread http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif But AfrographX does speak the truth.

Does it mean that ArmA will have 3d Iron sights or no? Implemented doesn`t mean functional, and we already know that the WIP ArmA pictures show 2d sights.
Placebo, could you confirm If there will be functional 3d iron sights in ArmA plz?

Hey guys I just noticed something strange,in terms of shadows.
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/1829/839hz.jpg Look here,notice the shadows?
http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/9791/land050a0227df.jpg Now look here, keep your eye on the building shadow.
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/6121/armademo58yj.jpg Same as above,it seems that buildings have soft shadows but not all objects.
BUT
look at these two.
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/3802/armahires067ik.jpg
http://img396.imageshack.us/img396/8769/armaofpcde23ol.jpg Sharp 3D shadows right?
Now look at this.
http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/7582/armed055vn.jpg Note how all of the shadows are soft.
Now correct me if I am wrong, but the last photo was released prior to E3. Is this a bashing? No not at all,yet another curiosity strike, wondering why BIS would hide such things in the demo, unless the demo was made before that image and what we may see as the 'new' demo may actually be a few months old before 2006 E3.
I can only sum up three possible explanations.
1. Its the angle, however this is highly doubtful as the shadow from the BMP cannons would not be nearly as 'soft' as it appears.
2. BIS is once more hiding things
3. Our reviewers that got the demo didn't have their graphics high
Its hard to say but I'm going with #2.

Jun 21 2006, 22:01
Of course its WIP :P But the release dates and the order of when the pictures appeared as to what they show just doesn't sum up.
Which leads to the second question, why show them at different settings rather than at the same setting?
Is it posible that differences in how strong the light is and the distance has an in fluence on the shadow?

Hi all
Have not seen this interview with Marek from a Czech business magazine posted here so here goes hope it is not old news.
The background on the BIS business model is interesting

BIS’ armed assault on PC gaming
By: Brian Kenety, 12. 06. 2006, More by this author
It’s the year 2010 and heightened tensions across the globe have led to the creation of an international military force to be dispatched to hotspots in Europe, Asia and beyond. You, solider, are part of that force; and whether that mob of villagers circling your unit takes up arms or disperses quietly depends on your next move.
Welcome to “Armed Assault,” the long-anticipated spiritual successor to Bohemia Interactive Studio’s (BIS) “Operation Flashpoint” the best-selling computer game ever to come out of the Czech Republic, and the 2001 top seller in huge gaming markets like the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany.
Considered the first “realist” tactical action simulator, “Operation Flashpoint” (OF) sold over 1.7 million copies within a year of its release. It pushed the real-time 3D graphics and artificial intelligence envelope to such a degree that it even caught the eye of the U.S. Marine Corps, and BIS, an independent game development studio founded by brothers Marek and Ondřej Španel, now competes with the likes of engineering giants Boeing and SAAB to outfit real-life armies with combat mission and other training software.
“We invested most of the revenues [from OF sales] back into the company and had the luxury of being able to work for two, even three years, as a kind of nonprofit, focusing on nonstandard graphics and AI [artificial intelligence] applications,” said BIS director Marek Španel. “We’re no longer exclusively a gaming company, and have developed highly specialized [training software] for the U.S. Army’s [Sikorsky Aircraft-made] Black Hawk, and other helicopters.” ... http://www.cbw.cz/phprs/2006061208.html

edit:
1. arma press demo is secured by StarForce and 3 serial keys
2. arma press demo is 2GB big http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
3. it has 2 singleplayer missions nad 'tactical view' (propably map), where you cane show some places of the map in small window with 3d, rotatable view
4. there is some problems with ladder animation (going up and down on ladders), propably its just lack of these anims
5. more realistic weapon recoil (player was using M4 and noticed that shooting is more difficult)
6. In those 2 missions fights was mainly close combat and MOUT.
"In first mission of this beta version, we (team) had to clear specific location from enemy infantry. It reminds me Rainbow Six, where enemy infantry elimination rested on taking flank position and surprise them. (...) Enemy, who is surprised by our assault, panics, then we see him close by (25m) as he is trying to hide in bushes or is looking for his friends support."
7. Taking weapon from dead enemies is instant. There is no crouching and taking, just click and you have new weapon in hand.
8. There is no fast crawling. When you are lying on the groung and push 'q' key - character is going up and run. Its somewhat dangerous for OFP players who is familiarized with fast crawling and use it often in combat.
9. There is some changes in AI command menu, some commands was removed, some regrouped. New command is 'Watch', used mainly in patrolling.
10. There is hardpoint, defined by BIS, where and when you can switch your character. After switch, your previous character is controlled by AI.
11. There is some problems with AI using vehicles, like -in multiplayer model player commanded two AI soldiers to get inside Humvee. They finished standing on top of vehicle http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
12. Driving and flying physic model is improved. Driving is fine, propably because more smooth terrain. Flying is more dynamic, you can perform faster actions and maneuvers (player was flying Littlebird).
13. There are new enviromental sounds and speeches.
sorry for my poor english and if some of informations are old http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

I am sure it's just the demo.
I really hope so, since I am not able to run games using starforce - I simply won't allow an install of it.
It would bite BIS in its tail anyway, since games featuring starforce just get cracked and made available on the net - forcing those of us who cannot run with starforce to download it instead.
I do, however, buy them anyway, since I think the developers deserve their money, but I don't think many people do that.

But it takes more time to crack SF than most of the other protection systems. SF is good for this kind of software because ArmA isn't for public use, yet.

I never had problems with Starforce, and still think it's the way for nerds to express their anger to not being able to make copy of the disk. However, for the sake of this game I don't want it to have starforce because less people will buy it.

If ArmA will be secured by this shit, then will download it from emule without this shitty copy protection.

BIS already said no to starforce, maybe it's just some publisher trying to firce it on them.
Anyways, has anyone here seen the 5year anniversary press kits video? Amazing how many soldiers they had on screen at once. Gonna buy armed assault, but i'll probably dl a starforceless version...

Very impressive trailer. The running anim also seems improved or maybe its just me. I also must comment the music is really well done. I liked the middle eastern flair at the end of the trailer.

I expect (and hope) that they only use it on the press-demo, as BIS dont want it leaked and the average reviewer cant break the starforce just remove it (myeah, uber-1337-h4ck3rs can, but thats not the average reviewer) http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Discussing copy protections contravenes forum rules. Discussing it any further may result in people being banned.
Publishers decide copy protection for retail products, so the whole point is moot.

I think this was the special,if ya ask me its special enough, you have to keep an eye out for the details, look at everything closely and see what there is,some are obvious, others aren't.
The structure in the first image appears enetrable, shadows are also smooth and even appear on the glass, possible slight reflection on glass as well. Anti Alaising is also displayed in this image.
Image two shows the HDR and normal mapping on the hangars, possibly walking animation and the sexiest AH-1 texture I'v seen yet, hell the model is great,I'm glad they didn't make the TSS round like others have done And possibe reflections on the helicopters cockpit glass, note the blue hue.
The rest I leave for you to find.
Magnum..hm...I would tend to believe him,he received a beta and probably has been told some things, but damnit now I'm gonna need a new set of pants if this wasn't the suprise >< you guys are going to have me crying over the beauty of the game and I don't cry, argh. Oooooh corpse..

all arma faces are from VBS1 , I hope someone makes a face pack for arma when out,
Anyone noticed that the OPFOR is now fatter and not skinny wee soldiers anymore, looks way better now http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
There's no Marek Spanel face in VBS1, but there is one in ArmA o___O
I wonder if the faces are the same for all sides? With track IR being implemented, and the -possibility- (don't know) of directional voice, the faces might become much more important and necessary (e.g. we might use them to identify our buddies as IRL).
I can see it now, a US soldier runs up to a ridge, and just over it is an opfor with Marek's face, "Wait, Marek! Don't shoot! You were on my side in that video! Hey I bought the game, didn't I? I didn't mean the comment on the hair, really! I had that style at one time too!"

Ah okay... i want to see you running this style and speed fully equipped.
Damn, are all blind here?
Sure there will be mods for running then. But the problem is if the mods fit with the server you playin on. Or if you can even use a mod. But by hook or by crook the speed-running is unnatural. You guys can agree among each other so much as you want. Same goes for the weapon-view.... the OFP-one looks much more natural than the 90 degrees-corner-arm now.

The only new thing for me in Gamer.no (http://gamer.no/sniktitt/pc/armed_assault/27151) is about the buildings.
He wasnt impressed about the fact that most buildings wasnt enterable, they had only painted doors and windows. In fact it seems that OFP have more buildings that you can enter, compared to the demo. He adds that it can be better in the full game, who knows..
The rest was the same. Looks promising, AI could be better, impressive viewdistance and so on..

But that won't make the game sell. If the game features aren't worked out well except the removing of the engine limitations.
And one of the big downs of OFP currently is that there are loads of awesome addons but very few of them are used in good missions. And i kind of doubt that will change soon with AA.

And about the flashnews issue, i think they will release the new tools to mod the game and the wiki. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
But that won't make the game sell. If the game features aren't worked out well except the removing of the engine limitations.

For starters you can guarentee that the streaming code in the demo is not fully optimized, if BIS can get Nogova working on the Xbox with its measly 64Mb of RAM I'm sure they can get an island 16 times the size to work nicely on a PC with 256Mb of RAM.
Secondly, seriously people you can NOT expect a game with the level of detail of ArmA to run at 100+ FPS on MAXIMUM detail settings on todays hardware. OFP couldn't be maxed when it came out (in some respects it still can't be maxed out) I really wonder about some people when they expect things to look photo realistic AND run at eye-watering FPS'. The tech is getting there, but it'll take a while yet.
Following on from that point, its common for games these days to run into the gigabytes of data. If you want photo realistic textures, then you're going to have to use some HDD space.
People REALLY need to stop jumping on the "OMG BIS SUCKZ0RS!!1!!11!!!1!!!" bandwagon. Their software is miles ahead of ANYTHING out there, so its bound to have "issues." PLUS its a DEMO i.e. an early version of the code. There are plenty of billboards in the demo saying "this area isnt finished, so dont send me bug reports" the same goes for the code. Come on people, BIS made OFP, give them some credit where its due...
I just read it. The article seems to be quite up to date since "21. czerwca" means june 21st, at least that's what I found out. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif

Yep. People getting upset over things missing in a 75% complete demo need to calm down and take a step back to get some perspective on things.

Exactly. It's just that Gry are obviously slow in writing/releasing their article.
We have read a few reviews and seen videos and images about the E3 press demo and all of us know it was far to be the finished product.
So said this I think we have to move on and forget that demo and wait till an official demo or the final product releases.

Agreed.
The more things BIS can cram into the final product the better! I for one do not want to rely on mods to satisfy my gaming desires. It also separates the masses into small groups when it comes to online gaming. Nothing against mods, as I have over 80gb of OFP add-ons but I don’t like having to provide multiple links to individual add-ons accumulating up to 1gb for a small coop game to commence.

You have to appreciate that just because the review has only just been written does NOT mean that the demo was only just provided. (i.e. that the demo code is representative of the current code)
As I understand, the demo that this article is based on is the E3 press demo, which is a good 2-4 months old. A LOT of changes/fixes can be made in that time.
People need to appreciate that not only are the demo's works in progress, they are very old representations of that work in progress http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

I'd agree, below ~40 FPS any change is noticeable. Above 40FPS however, there really isnt (since the human eye can only really percieve ~30FPS this seems a bit odd, but those extra frames really help make the experience seem smooth, especially when moving)
Anyho, I'd rather sacrifice a little bit of model detail (over view distance) to sustain a decent FPS. Afterall, when are you ever going to see that metal grille or the soldiers eyelids other than in "combat-whore-tography" or the odd cutscene? And I don't know about you guys, but I'm all about blowin shit up.

Say it with me: It's the E3 demo, and the E3 demo wasn't complete.
Do not assume that everything you've read about the E3 demo automatically applies to the full game as well. It was a 75% done work-in-progress. Tons of stuff was missing.

I've just read the original article and its translation - summary on ofp.info and I have to say that the translation has some major mistakes. I don't have time to translate it all but I'll corect some things:
Quote[/b] ]
# It is no longer possible to slide very fast
Should be: "It is no longer possible to crawl very fast."
Quote[/b] ]
# The physical engine is not perfect, a soldier which was killed by a PK flight 200 meters away. Tanks are also still jumping like in OFP.
It was not PK. It was some kind of a high caliber (tank?) gun.
Also some interestnig facts:
Quote[/b] ]
# A lot of animations are still missing.
For example if you move when crouching it is like you "were iceskateing." There is also some kind of option for climbing the obstacles but it doesn't work yet. (when you chose it nothing happens)
There is also some kind of option for climbing the obstacles but it doesn't work yet. (when you chose it nothing happens)
That's very interesting. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
It is no longer possible to crawl very fast.
I hope that will be added in. I don't know why they would take it out. We need the slow stealthy crawl and the run for you life crawl.

A tech demo thats 2-4 months old (possibly older)
You've got to take demos and the like with a pinch of salt, and have confidence in BIS that they will fix these shortcomings.
There's a big difference between fully workable demo (E3 in this case) and continious updates of graphics, engine, animations, models, etc. You have to wrap up everithing that works and then make a demo... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

I think vehicles and choppers in OFP is enough easy to drive and fly. Vehicles have no manual gear change and don't slip even though you drive roughly. Choppers are so stable that you need not to care about an altitude.

In fact vehicles in OFP are so easy to drive that makes the experience little realistic, specially when driving cars.

The author of the interview on www.gry-online.pl writes that driving cars is more fluid because the terrain don't have so big edges. It is smoother than in OFP.
I'm guessing that it's the same as in Elite, where the vehicles feel more natural/smooth or whatever you wanna' call it.

Evaluating everything that i've seen and read about Arma i doubt the demo/game is 75% finished, not just doubt it but i hope!
I remember reading that no tree in Aras was "handmade" and everything was done with that 3d scanner (Linda)?
I recognise alot of them, unless their just place holders.. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif .
Im happy to read that the graphics can be toned down to Resistance quality because the use of shadders and shiny effects on surfaces gets on my nerves, i apretiate improved lighting, nice models/ textures and better colours (digital vibrance style) but i also expect it all to look natural and photorealistic like Nogova http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif .
I feel ready to see new features in action other than the graphical facelift at this stage. Im tired of speculation has it always leads to unrealistic expectations.
I havent see one single plane, a boat (aircraft carrier, i wish...), some animals, multiple weapon mounts/turrets per vehical, etc. Just a bigger and better looking game.
Can we fastrope from a helicopter properly in Arma? If so then show it to us! Show us the progress upgrades in a less graphical and more "functionality" based way http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

I hope you mean OFF
The auto-center for pilot view introduced ~1.92 was the WORST decision they ever made. Prior to that you could fly a chopper and scan the horizon (using a hat switch) or even just to check for obstacles when landing. With the stupid auto-center you're limited to looking straight forward, or to the left/right extremes. No good for a chopper pilot IMHO.

I got some spare time today so I translated the beta test from www.gry-online.pl because there were some misunderstandings about it. The translation is made very fast so I'm affraid it has some mistakes. Also as I'm not the author of the article don't ask me to explain some of new features that the article reveals. Have a nice read.
Quote[/b] ]I've been watching her for a few months so far. She was surprising me sometimes, but sometimes she got me bored due to the lack of news. She is not so different from the others, she doesn't put on her 40 tons of make-up pretending to be spectacular and fashionable. She in not a girl next door but the Bohemia Interactive's website. It's been weeks of waiting, reading threw the news, admiring screenshots - the ammount of the news is never sufficient. I've been waiting to put my hands on Armed Assault for a long time. The continuation of my favorite Operation Flashpoint couldn't avoid getting to my hard drive. The version I had opportunity to play in is not final but only a beta promo demo for press. But who cares? I've been waiting for it for so long... The installation of 2GB of files lasted forever. The installation process was using some copy protection tools like StarForce and 3 activation keys. I had to be a bit patient before I could run the aplication.
The Main menu was redesigned. Buttons for particular functions were placed in the bottom, so you can see engine based animations showing soldiers in the middle of the screen. Windows with menus are very simple and clear. Instedad of a green laptop popping here and there we get light grey squares with black and red font. There is a campaign made expecially for the promo version beta test. It contains two single player missions and a tactical screen. The tactical screen shows the current situation on the battlefield for example areas of enemy activity or allied bases. Every place marked on the map can be viewed in a small window with a remote cammera. Thanks to it you can see the terrain and buildings layout you will enocounter during the mission. After familiarising with the tactical screen it is time to read the orders on the mission screen. It was redesigned as well. Again the main point is the clearness of the objectives. The old notebook was abadoned. (something similar to old notebook can be seen on some of the screens - translator's note) Now we have a topographic map with markers and a brown bar with the mission plan on the right. Now it was time to start the game.
The first impression is very positive. It's like someone took Flashpoint and took it to a beautician. The graphics is far supperior to Resistance expansion. But I'll be back to impressions on graphics later. Let's look into the changes in the gameplay. There is really a lot of them. Or even more. The first of all the movement of soldiers in open spaces and in buildings have been improved. Movements are more fluid and natural but when compared to some multiplayer FPS games it is still torpid. Climbing ladders is still a bit difficult but it is due to the lack of some animations. Improvements can be seen in the shooting. The weapon recoil is bigger and when shooting Russians (North Sahrani's soldiers? - translator's note) with M4 you have to have not only a good eye but also a good hand to control the mouse.
The nature of the continuatior of the series was changed a bit. So far the game forced players to fight from the distance. In the first mission of the beta verison I and my squad had to clear a location from the enemy infantry. It reminded me times of Rainbow Six in which in order to eliminate an enemy you had to surprise him from his left or right flank. In Armed Assault it is done in a similar way. The enemy surprised by our attack starts to panic so we can often see him as he's trying to hide in the bushes or seek for his friends support, all happening 25 meters in front of our iron sights. Next to just a general tactics for the mission the tactics used in particular situation by a few men squad becomes important. So we are very likely to see a mix of open spaces battles as well as urban ones. The recreation of lifelike cities, which are slowly begining to shape up in ArmA, is the essence here.
One another change is the way of taking the weapon from the dead enemy. As you all probably remember the player in OFP had to kneel to take it. The whole process of picking it up was taking at least a few seconds. There is no such a thing in Armed Assault. We just approach the body and chose the given option. Then the enemy's weapon instantly appears in our hands. In my opinion the big disadvantage is that you can't crawl fast. This very useful option which was present in the prevous games now dissapeard completely. When you use the run key you're just getting up and become an easy target for enemy. The old habit almost got me killed in some hotter moments.
But the thing I was expecting the most was changes in the way of issuing orders. The previous system was unfriendly and you had to make your way threw more and more of 'trees' of commands. Although the system of commanding in ArmA was much simplified it is still far from being ideal. The first of all the mentioned 'trees' are still there but BIS get rid of some of unused commands and the remaining ones were reordered. This way a new group of commands was created. It is named "Watch" and is useful when patroling and reconing. I have no doubts - controlling is now more comfortable but I was hoping for more intuitive solutions. One another new feature is widely advertised by BIS possibility to change your 'profesion' during the mission. I was a bit sceptical about it at first. The beta version didn't allow for changing your character in any time of the mission but only in the moment predefined by the authors (in mission 2). I could choose sniper or tank gunner. I played both of them and I must admit that I'm begging to like the idea. Fighting in the different areas of warfare is not borring, as a matter of fact it's the opposite. When playing sniper's role we're wipping out Russians (Russians again? - translator's note) from the distance of 400 meters. Noone knows who's shooting and where's he hidding. It is known only by us and our scoped M24. When playing the role of a tank's crewman we are thrown into the heat of the battle on the city's streets. The interesting thing is that playable characters that are not controled by player are controled by AI.
From the other side for not to sound too optimistic it is time to mention the bugs that, I hope, will be eliminated in the final version. The first thing is horrible optimisation. I'm affraid that Bohemia didn't look into cleannig the code so far. The readme file clearly says that the game should run on 256MB of ram. I don't want to even know how it works on such a memory size. The recommended 1GB can also be treated only as a joke. I have 1,5 GB of RAM and I was disgusted when I had to wait for several seconds for all models (including trees and buildings) to be loaded during the playing. I wasn't impressed by simple models that were 'gaining' textures after some time. During the intense action the game was sometimes jaggy on Geforce 6600 GT. I should point here that the level of detail was set on medium. It was also obvious that some of the animations were missing. It is particulary related to climbing obstacles (despite the fact that the option was shown you couldn't use it) and crouching (moving in crouch position looks like iceskating). Some points of the phisics engine weren't finished too. A soldier hit with a gun (high caliber one - translator's note) flew for 200 straight in the air. Bouncing tanks are already known from OFP. BIS assures that those things will be improved.
More bugs could be seen in multiplayer mode which is represented by 3 missions. It allows playing only with bots whose inteligence isn't very good. When I ordered two of my men to get in humvee they simply got on its roof and didn't want to move further. The multiplayer mode allowed me to test the model of driving vehicles. It is better than in Resistance. Driving vehicles is as easy but even more enjoyable. The resaon of this is smoothnes of the terrain which is less 'edgy'. Nice and smooth surface doesn't cause jumps or accidents. It is better in the air too. Flying Littlebird is dynamic and allows a lot of fast maneuvers. The visual side meets my expectactions quite well but there is no revolution there. When set on the lowest details the game looks a bit better than Resistance. By increasing the level of detail I got very good graphics with well done vehicles and characters models. The variety of trees and presence of insects and birds is also noticable. Unfortunately I couldn't enjoy the maximal details for too long because of low FPS rate. Armed Assault is highly customisable (but 320x240 resolution is like a joke) and every player will be able to adjust the level of detail to his PC's speed. The audio side wasn't changed drasticly. We can hear new speeches and environmental sounds but it is nothing more than we already heard in predecessors.
The beta test of Armed Assault didn't knock me onto my knees. The game didn't show its advantages so far but I'm sure that the final version will knock us down. The potential that this title has is enormous. I trust that Bohemia won't fail. The fans have been waiting for a long time but if they want to get a really good product they have to live in the celibacy from virtual war for a bit more. I think that with the help of the community and modmakers Armed Assault will share the reputation of Operation Flashpoint. Only because of that I'm begginig to collect my money for my own copy. It will be a game not for a week nor for a month but for years.

Nice read, less dramatic imo http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .
Quote[/b] ]One another change is the way of taking the weapon from the dead enemy.
I believe these might happen due to the beta status of that build, the animations are problably missing so the features arent working yet http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

I haven't checked this site in a while, nor the forums, but it appears as though there is no update regarding the release of this title, am I correct? I can't sort through 179 pages of this thread, but what is the status of this game? The month of June is almost over, so has the H1 release been bumped up to H2 of 2006?
Let's hope AA and Game2 won't turn into a S.T.A.L.K.E.R, 5 years in the making and still postponing.
Cheers guys.

To be honest, I don't expect Armed Assault this side of Christmas. FSW:10 Hammers has just been released, so combat sim competition is too high at the moment, if the game was even ready. I expect the game H1 2007.

LOL I love when the hummer flies away in the last video. Good Ol' OFP! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rofl.gif
It didn't fly TOO bad in the first one, and in the last I believe it just flew and rolled to the other side of the road.. The impressive thing to me are the details on the underside of the hummer in the 2nd vid.. NICE
In OFP I'd put a satchel on either side of a T80, and crawl under and put one just behind the centerpoint under it.. It would fly in a short graceful forward flip and land on its barrel (very nifty to see) or, more likely, land smartly on the turret. Discussing copy protections contravenes forum rules. Discussing it any further may result in people being banned.
Publishers decide copy protection for retail products, so the whole point is moot.
Before:
Armed Assault
Format: PC CDROM
Genre: First person military combat simulation
Release date: H1 2006
Publisher: To be determined
Now:
Armed Assault
Format: PC DVD
Genre: First person military combat simulation

Q3 is pretty near now.

Apart from the very poor standard of driving in the map (was it AI or human?), the handling of the car appeared to be a huge improvment on OFP. For once it appears that we may get wheeled vehicles that dont have a longer braking distance than a supertanker!
The colours looked too bright in some places, a little garish to be honest. Hopefully this is adjustable in some way to tone the colour down a little to give a more natural appearance.

Armed Assault has been in production and announced at 2005,it didn't exist in 2004,possibly as a rumor but nothing official. To be honest I don't think the games late or anything, some games take up to three years to make, and then of course I'm sure somebodies going to throw out there "Well EA can pop off games in months" or so...well EA has produced a few good games, but, and I'm sorry for those of you being fans of BF2,but it being the most modern and having the most 'in common' with OFP/Armed Assault,I have no choice.
Okay lets take vanilla Battlefield 2,it was done, had several maps, several weapons and three teams, also several vehicles, with a few variations between the two. Now lets take special forces, there were several people issuing complaints that it was more CPU demanding,it had 6 or 7 maps and another set of weapons that could even be played with in vanilla once unlocked. The added things however were generally useless, night vision. Okay in night vision you have somewhat the ability to see in the dark, but even the slightest light on a metal or so would give too much reflection, and night vision in helicopters was near useless, damn dark brownish red.... Then came European uhh..something...a pretty big failure, alot of people said the voice acting was terrible,it added 3 weapons and a few more maps, and one side, then of course armored fury and who knows whats next..
Anyway looking past that, alot of people for some reason like to compare EA to Bohemia, quite an unfair comparing if you ask me,as EA is a worldwide company with a massive amount of staff that are overcharged hours and underpaid for them, while at the same time releasing more and more things while the higher ups screw up the employees trying to be nice, the crash to desktop bf2 bug as an example, thats supposed to be fixed in the next patch.
Bohemia is obviously not that,a much much smaller staff taking their time to create more realistic games, yes they don't offer the best graphics such as Crytek or EA,but thats what makes Bohemia special,as they stated and as I'v seen myself, these days everyone is trying to make the next gen GRAPHIC game, focusing usually on only graphics. However Bohemia is moreso wanting gameplay over graphics. They also release a large amount of images,be it beta or not,and why? Well obviously we are heard one way or another and they are trying to please the community by doing so,they don't simply tell us everything that will be in it for a suprise factor probably. And its obvious that their not simply after our money, had that been the case,Armed Assault would have been released long ago.
When games are rushed they come out half baked, when food comes out half baked its not so good, same with games,it will be done when its done and thats all there is to it,so asking things "when will it be released?" when you already have leads to such things is pointless.
And Placebo said the suprise will have nothing to do with Armed Assault.

And Placebo said the suprise will have nothing to do with Armed Assault.
I somehow dont believe him either (possibly trying to trick everyone? lol we will find out soon), BIS like to play little games and hide things from the community like they have done many times in the past, thats good though as it makes things more interesting, fun and sometimes frustrating at the same time lol.
Anyway I just cant see how this "surprise" cant be ArmA related, what else are they going to "surprise" us with when ArmA is due out in the next 3 months? I cant see it being a OFP patch since BIS and Codemasters are not together anymore and I think it would really be a waste of time working on OFP when BIS allready have ArmA almost done.

1. ARMA H1 2006
2. ARMA Q3 2006
3. ARMA ..... 2...
So, what's next?
You forgot the dates before... 2004...late 2005... etc.
S.D.
And Placebo said the suprise will have nothing to do with Armed Assault.
well said man i agree totaly.
In the early years that OFP came out and before it did i didn't pay attention to the community, so what has BiS done in the way of a "surprise" or "trickery" or "play games"? I would like to know to fully understand what Bis is capable(sp?) of.

You may be surprised to learn this, but you're not forced to look at pics, you're not forced to watch videos, you're not forced to visit websites, you're not forced to read forums.
If it's all too much for you to cope with you can use "free will" and not do any of these oh so terribly frustrating things (as can anyone else) http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Just a few that I can think of right now, but there has been more.
Behind the scenes, was not so easy to find the area to click on for the link lol.
http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=28450 (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=33;t=28450)
Willam Porters blog was not mentioned by BIS to the public, it was found by a community member or members, the word spread and -=UOE.Txalo=- posted the link.

couldn't find it elsewhere.
Unfortunately not, Shinraiden posted it a few weeks/months back iirc.
Still interesting reading tho http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
So what happened to the imminent surprise thingy? It it over jet or are we stil waiting for it? Or...?
If you read flashnews you'll know that it's not due to be revealed until the next issue (#100) is released. Flashnews is published roughly fortnightly and there is at least another week to go.

Maybe the surprise is an update to OFP that gives us some of the scripting that will be in ArmA; so that we can get up to snuff. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
