But i think that afaik BIS said that they will release a MP-Demo a few months before and the single player quite near the release of ArmA, or? And Q3 ends on september so the mp demo would be released only one month before the great game is released...
Personally i hope for the MP demo only around july-aug, IF the release date are 2006 sep.

But this is only speculation. Actually i even query the 2006 Q3 release date... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/icon_rolleyes.gif

Ok, its just speculations and speculations... But, remember the old flashpoint demo ! It was out a long time before the game release... And this little demo was the first step of the HUDGE game success !
BIS perfectly know this. It's why I think they will release the mp demo very soon.

My second argument is that BIS have already create this MP demo. We all see the video of this demo...

They are just waiting the right moment to release it. And the right moment is... Now, or in the week.

Why ?

Because of the long waiting of the community. I think they want make a gift for us. And i think that this gift is the mp DEMO. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/inlove.gif

The game is nowhere near finished, BIS will never release a crucial demo for a product that still got only one or more undecided publishers if the product quality is at least represented 100 percent in demo. A demo with bugs and missing game elements will be suicide for BIS.
Here at the forums and it the outer world.
Status: 85 percent done
That means not 100 done -> why should there be a demo right now ?
That´s highly unrealistic. We have waited for some time already, who cares about 3 months more ?

May 30 2006, 17:00
Operation Flashpoint DEMO was not an 100 % done demo...

We all can see in the video that Arma is already 100 % playable ! We dont have any idea of what is still missing... We are sure that the AI is not 100% make. But an MP Demo mission dont need a 100 % AI... I think the last 25 % are just little details, like vehicules, missions, musics, dialogs... But the ARMA core is ready. Its why all the community expect a demo. Its why BIS is going to release a demo !

hardrock
May 30 2006, 17:11
Armed Assault isn't 100% playable. Maybe the parts they showed in the video were playable, but that's long not everything. There are still a couple of things that need to be fixed or even implemented, as the participants of the OFP Workshop II had to notice. The demo we saw still had errors, and that some parts in one single demo mission work, doesn't mean, that everything in the game works.

So the weapon slot system was missing entirely. There were still a couple of graphical bugs. As Bals mentioned, it's not done yet. So stop nagging at BIS.

VladAlex
May 30 2006, 17:15
LOL !

That exactly what i SAID ! A demo is not all the game. And make a demo dont need to have finish all the game.

hardrock

Well, but read the posts above. BIS may or may not have a publisher yet. If they release a buggy demo, they'll be lynched.

Also it is not true that the Armed Assault engine is ready. Maybe you can basically play, but the last bits to be added are generally not details and models, but heavylasting bugs which of course would also appear in the demo.

All in all, let's just stop the speculation, won't we? If BIS do or do not release a demo is their job. It's ours to wait and stop speculating, which helps us exactly nothing.

I did a little sketch which shows pretty well the actual situation:

http://ofp.gamepark.cz/_hosted/hardrock/pic/speculation.gif

We could start a poll letting people choose with or without speculation . . .

Niceone Hardrock. Hope this keeps them quiet for some time :P

Well I gotta say, the longer they wait with the release, the more features they can build in, and hunt bugs in dev time. You dont want 50 patches as ofp had do you?

And im already fantasising what could be done with the nested animations. Damn, we can build fully animated pontoon bridges, cranes, segment doors, lawnmowers, Striders, sheep... This list is endless!

Hmmm, different kinds of Demo's are possible.

Free Demo at time of release of ArmA for ppl who consider buying ArmA. I couldn't care less about this one (cause i allready know i will buy the full game)

Teaser Demo some time before full release for ppl who already know they will buy the damned game and just want too have a bit of fun some time in advance.

Vlad is talking about the 2nd option. I tend to agree that this is a possible scenario even if ArmA isn't 100% finished.

(Why not a 'leaked' demo to get the hype going and maybe get more publishers attention ... but i'm getting paranoid now:)

Quote[/b] ]Once in a mission, we got to see the game in action, and it was pretty easy to see the same glimmers of gameplay that made Operation Flashpoint so enjoyable. Within seconds, we were shown an urban clash between advancing U.S. infantry and a dug-in northern contingent taking up firing positions in a village on the top of a hill. As the demonstrator and his forces slowly inched their way up the hill, the battle raged, but it was clear that the fact that the hillside was devoid of cover was going to play a heavy hand in the U.S. force's defeat.

Oooh, sounds good!

Quote[/b] ]The multiplayer portion has been significantly ramped up from Operation Flashpoint, including both a heavily beefed up set of gameplay elements and a brand-new cooperative mode. How the co-op works is that players can undertake the entire campaign together with an undetermined amount of players (we were told the only limit would depend on the multiplayer server hardware), and the only limiting factor is that players must first have beaten a campaign mission alone before they can play one cooperatively.

AA is rather useless other than to get rid of jagged edges,I never found much use in it to be honest, whats a few pixel edges hurt, and don't forget, what we have seen has been wip, they may or may not include it,in which case you'll just have to live with it.

Yeah FSAA is "useless" when it makes object edges look more realistic, it also helps a lot with objects looking clearer that are far away in the distance.

I wouldn't read anything into Armed Assault being on that list. The TrackIR team were given a technical demo a few weeks back for publicity/testing purposes, they showed it off at one of the game conventions - it was the same demo that many of the early interviews were based on.

It doesn't mean that a proper official demo is about to be released.

Lately I've been thinking that a horror campaign mod for Armed Assault would be sort of cool. Was there anything like that for OFP? You have to get off an evil island populated by twisted and disgusting creatures. Since it's OFP you can roam around the island freely, but WATCH OUT! I began thinking about it while I was playing Silent Hill 4.

By the way:

From this (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=34590&mode=thread&order=0) preview it looked like they changed that.

But im not sure if they mean for the campaign or the coop feature (altough it would be obvious that we can decide how many players we want in custom made missions)

Nah,those screenshots are probably old old OLD,unless their workin on some new stuff...wait..the arbams wasn't that clean on the rear at first..hmm,ah well.

It is rather interesting And it is possible they are trying physics but having a bit of trouble with it,I can't say I'v driven a vehicle under the gas station in OFP:E when its falling apart,so I can't say for sure if objects go through the vehicle or not... Unless these walls are scripted to fall in a different direction, which wouldn't really make any sense.. Its rather hard to tell....But I would venture very early image, little camo on the abrams and no 50cal like we saw in the video.

http://ofp.gamepark.cz/news/pics3/armaofpcde5.jpg

Then again there are the more complicated shadows, its hard to say, before anything jumps onto me for say...bitching about WIP,its not bitching, more or less speculaiton of time the image was taken,I have not put any 'omfg they need to fix that' or anything, mostly theory and speculation.

And let us not forget, not everything we see if brand new, remember the images with the tank shine that brought alot of bitching was released around....what..February? And then they explained it was a Dec screenshot.

NeMeSiS

The first part that falls trough the tank isnt a wall, its a pillar-kind-of-thing. So if the island-editor(accidentally) turned the thing 180 degrees it would fall the other way, which wouldnt be surprising, as it (probably) looks the same from all 4 directions http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

EDIT: And good spotting on the tank, then it probably is an old shot http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
(Although i dont expect new physics on the wall, AFAIK BIS never promised big improvement on the physics)

Thanks, who knows, there could be alot of things they aren't telling us,wouldn't be the first time http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif I'm not sure but I don't remember BIS saying that there would be new shadow effects and normal maps and things of that nature.

I'm willing to venture that image or video was out before or just after OFP:E,probably when they were first working on the abrams and only the turret had camo, let alone much else.

Concidering that,if the wall does indeed have a physics attachment then either they did away with it,or they are simply hiding it from us,remember how they used to do that with the blackhawks? Carefully show us only one side until one day we got a head on shot that clearly showed both? Perhaps it may be the same thing,I suppose we'll never know when it comes to BIS,their good at secrecy.

So if the HK G36 in the game, why not be the MP7A1 in the game?

'Cause the G36 is this fancy revolutionary-summin' rifle that is famous and cool and gets all the chicks and the lot.

The MP7A1 is pretty much unknown for anyone that isn't interested in weapons.

Why do you automatically assume that the US Army will be using G36's in ArmA? As far as I recall there will be a number of combating forces among several factions. Anyways, the G36 is a rather popular weapon, much like the M16 or AK47, so it's not surprising to see it being used by these types of forces, and the MP7, however, isn't. There are several weapons that would take its place before it does; other (more veteran) weapons of the same genre (FN P90 for example) are fairly popular worldwide, or at least more so than the relatively new MP7.

Well, we need to clear the picture:

1.: Pehaps you forgot to read what this thing all about. There are a post about for the ArmA get some new weapon, like the P90 or MP7. After this there are a discussion about the MP7 or the P90 even in service (in real life, as i mention, or in the ArmA). My post actually questioning why the MP7 cant be in the game (this is only fikcional anyway, because very unlikely to the ArmA include the P90 or any other new weapon).

2.: You see any non-US equipment in South Sahrani or US forces in ArmA so far, except the G36? Because i dont. So actually even the G36 become an enigma.

The Spanish site GameProTV, at the request of some members of the community, published a little video preview (http://www.gameprotv.com/index.php?s=ver_video&id=2217) of ArmA with some of the footage we've seen lately. Although it doesn't include much information, it's a good start in making Spanish speakers aware of the game.

HL and HL2 has only look-a-like weapons (like the 50 round magazine in MP5 at HL1), not realisticly used, but yes, the HL2 SMG actually a HK MP7, and yes, the world model are outsized in the game, and finally yes, the MP7 never get grenade launcher.

Holy crap! I might have to get me some of them Track IR thingy's,definatly makes it feel more immersive than a mouse can,and the head movements are so smooth. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/thumbs-up.gif

To be honest, somehow the way things look make AA seem more realistic in appearence than most games I'v seen, the rest just look kinda painted up.

Wait a sec..this is kinda odd...that video shows the 5Ton truck as the old OFP one,and yet in photos released in Williams blog we clearly see it redone. http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/2966/027qy.jpg Which is also in the trailer.

Just food for though (me and my useless point outs) Now no this is not nitpicking but moreso speculation of video date or perhaps that BIS is indeed hiding more than we know, considering the date in which the image appeared in William's blog, April 28th, 2006

To be honest if thats the final quality of the game for Track IR,then hell..its more or less perfect.

Wait a tick... Hmm...I could be wrong but I think they made the possibility of Shadow LOD's being more complicated (more faces) possible...yeah..hard to say on the vehicles because I can't see them well, the camera always moves away when I can get a good look, but its definatly on the soldiers.

Not too sure if this is the correct topic to point this out but it seems every topic is now talking about the TrackIR video but this isn’t so much to do with TrackIR than the progress of the animations, they’re looking a lot more fluent than predicted however there are still imperfections, for instance the capture below taken from the TrackIR video. I also believe that the transition from walk to sprint is far too fast.

Like was said above the Track ir video is from the E3 press demo and is not the current build. Notice also in that pick how the Humvee is parked on top of an upright reflector post! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif Also compare the Humvee in your pick with the one above from WP's blog. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Verdict: Old WIP. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Why? Maybe because it's what they enjoy. Maybe because they LIKE to point things out to others that are interested. I think we all get it that it's WIP WIP WIP. Can we all please just say the constructive things we want to say? OFPForum just (ok, in the past few days) pointed out about 5 different things that were 'off' in some pics to mock the others that would have pointed them out anyway.. Let's just let people be people if they are not being rude, obnoxious, insulting and such, ay? Hmm sounds like sombody I know from somewhere (not you Kyle or OFPForum). *to self: do not flame. do not flame.* http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Look, not splitting hairs here but screenshots are slightly different to videos; you can’t judge animations from a screenshot. And its all well and good developers saying something will be fixed/changed but how many times have developers said this in the past and failed to deliver on their promises? Fair enough BIS have an excellent track record in my opinion and I do believe they will follow through on their promises but some people have this blind faith that Armed Assault will be perfect without any conclusive evidence.

I am relieved of another thing in that video,in the past screens I noticed that the texture seemed to 'gif.ify' and the colors would become smudges, didn't see that in the video so I'm guessing it may have been an issue fixed,I duno, but I'm glad they did.

maybe BIS changed their mind (again) and they decided to add some Game 2 technology to ARMA (like LINDA).. and it probably will take alittle more time to optimize it.. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Armed Assault tries to reach the mainstream more than OFP did, but it will also satisfy hardcore OFP Fans.
Change of characters is confirmed now: you can play all soldiers who are set "playable" in SP now, too. If you only set one soldier "playable", you can't change characters.
Multiple Gunner Positions are confirmed, too: any amount of turrets is possible.
3D optics are implemented.
PBOs are signed from now on to prevent from serverside cheating in MP.
Documentations about the engine are planned to be released before the game itself.
Also planned is a Wiki with Informaion by BIS and the community (planned Launch: within 100th FlashNews).
A BI-developed vegetation generator, called Linda, is producing varied and realistic vegetation without any handcraft.
We saw trees shaking with the wind.
Collision is pretty much overworked.
AI is able to drive on one side of the roads.
Normal Mapping, HDRR (High Dynamic Range Rendering), Detail Mapping, 2nd-UV-Set.
The weapon system has been split, Magazines are now in an own class in the config.
Mission Editing
No elementary changes on the editor.
Missions are now packed in addon PBOs.
Mission wizard from OFP:Elite.
Scripts are compiled during the first execution and stay in the memory.
SQFs have been improved and enhanced.
Differentiation between strings ("string" ) and code ({code}).
Many new scripting commands, for example "switch".
Library of all vehicles and weapons with all necessary information (3D preview).
Multiplayer
No player limit, the only limit is the server's bandwidth.
Linux- and Windows-server supported (Linux maybe a bit delayed).
Voice over IP: No external programme like TS required, it's working OFP internal how the Chat (also on Sockets).
Join in Progress (you can disable it via server lock)
Addon Making
Conversion of addons should be easy, but the objecty have to be adapt.
Model config is attached to each addon.
Names of selections can be user defined.
You can attach several animations to one selection (e.g. gear animations).
Animations are directly made with the model and can be viewed in Bulldozer.
New animation: "Translation".
Tools as O2 or Visitor are going to be released before ArmA.
Models have a skeleton as basis (in the model config).
Materials can be configured (wood, steel, etc).
"Certified Content Developers" will probably supported by BI in a special way and will get more information plus answers to their questions; also they get the signatures for their PBOs.

Improved support of import from 3DS Max and Maya.
Probably you can use different camos on one modell.
Theoretical infinite size of islands possible (thanks to streaming, which was developed for OFP:E).
Cellgrid was already tested with 5m-tiles.
BIS-internal tools
To create a more realistic flora, BI is using an only for that developed tool called "Linda". But it is not probable that this generator is going to be released publicly.
Satellite data can be loaded into the game with information on colors and elevation.
Tools are using the same scriptengine as the gameengine does
And... the most important thing: the release is scheduled for the 3rd quarter 2006, if the publisher doesn't change it.
http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif because the faq editor aint about lately, thought i would post a where were upto type thing. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif.

I thought I'd better post this here, as it's regarding ArmA's progress.. Guys, for a reality check, I did (and strongly hope you all do) a current-work, side by side comparison between ArmA and any released, or soon to be released product (on your own as I'm too tired/lazy to post any of the 10 or so of my research links http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/nener.gif). The latest thread (although prob. soon to be locked) from BF2 players asking about ArmA shocked me into doing this. And I am amazed. I have been comparing ArmA with my memory of these games, and I can't believe how off I was. A am now firmly convinced ArmA shall rule for some time to come on many facets- including graphics.

People have said this will be a BF2 killer (I know, not right to compare the two, but still), I now believe them.

@<hidden> BIS: http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/inlove.gif

BTW: IMHO, Krysis is not truly in this genre. So lets not go there... Yet http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Arma will not be a BF2 killer. BF2 has its own fanbase and its own style of play. Also the graphics while much better than ofp are not next gen graphics. That being said I personally believe it will be the best game ever, but I doubt many BF2 players will be dropping BF2 for Arma.

TBH I don't believe MANY BF2 players will adopt ArmA, most of them will go ETQW or BF2142 because of the arcade type of gameplay.

I can compare this situation to a Mod for BF2 - Project Reality - completely different gameplay, strive for realism, slower pace, no ramboing possible.

Not SO many played it or liked it, nonetheless those that did were mostly the mature and friendly part of the community http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Quote[/b] ] (I know, not right to compare the two, but still),

Yeah, I know. What my allergy medicine was trying to say, is that there's so much more possibility with the ground cover, hell the engine in general that the mods we'll be seeing will be much more photorealistic and capable than in the past. I can't wait to see what the building pathways for AI will be like (have some models started), and the placement, type and exclusion properties for the ground cover - if they are configurable, I'm going to get some regional undergrowth and dense swamp plantlife into ArmA (If it doesn't exist already). If ground geometry can be closely controlled emplacements and fortifications of slopes become much more interesting. I can imagine standard slopes or depression profiles that will allow 'sunken' - not quite below ground installations that some of us discussed for OFP years ago, but the collision detection did not permit such things. I just had a moment where I saw what was coming and decided to post on it. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Edit: The BF2 killer thingy was about overall quality/capability and enjoyment factors- including graphics, as some people were knocking ArmA's graphics, and I let that alter my perception of BIS's work unrealistically.
