View Full Version : Laser designator / nightvision in custom games?
I haven't found any way to place these items. They aren't included in Ammo/Weapons crates, and none of the mixed squads contain a laser designator.
AFAIK, the only way to get a laser designator device without setting units to "Laser designator x 10" is to include an AI unit and have someone shoot him at the start of the mission. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wow_o.gif
If possible, I beg Bohemia to offer a wider selection of "Unit type" templates for the mission editor - the 4-5 available under infantry squads currently is a bit thin.

If you delete one of the soldiers in the group and then add an individual soldier with laser finder, won't it automatically group them together?
Well in PC OFP in the units intialization field you could type:
<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">this addWeapon "NVGoggles";[/QUOTE]
and that would add a pair of NV Goggles to the unit. Is there anyway in OFP: E to type something?

The problem is that - as far as I can tell - the groups aren't customizable at all. If you want a mixed group (a special squad for example) you're stuck with what you get. :s
Neither can you type anything. You can't compare it to what I guess you're used to on the PC.
In Elite you get a menu choice, "units", in which you can select to edit the west or east group. There is ONE choice for each. It could be any number of one "type" (1xabrams or 10xabrams or 5xSoldier or 1xSpecial Squad - you get the idea?). So if you want any other combination of troops than the preset ones, you're out of luck.
I really enjoy Elite, but think a few features have been botched (like the unit selection in the mission editor) which would have been easily fixed. A shame really...
Unless, of course, I'm missing something...? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

So... if you place individual units close to eachother they wont automaticaly be grouped?
Also, cant you select one unit of a group, highlight it to open the atributes window thingy and change it to another unit from there http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif ?
On the PC it is possible to group units selecting the groups tab and draging lines betwean them, cant you place 2 units on the map, change to groups and "group" them this way? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

As far as I understand, there are two ways of placing units in the mission editor on the Xbox:
- In the mission settings screen (where you select mission type, weather, etc) there is a choice called "units". This simply just allows you to select one unit "template". These cannot be changed (again, AFAIK). The units set up through this function is those that are playable ingame (by humans or AI).
- In the map editor, you can indeed drop single units of any kind. However, these units aren't playable or commandable, they are purely used with waypoints.
So, even though I CAN add a laser designator just beside my (premade, set in stone) infantry squad, I can't use him in any way. He'll just stand there unless he's been given waypoints beforehand.
And no, you can't edit individual units in the player group afterwards (AFAIK). They're set. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif
