View Full Version : Construction points?

I'm trying to use the editor but it says I have no construction points. What?
Uziyahu--IDF
Oct 28 2005, 16:54
Yeah, I was wondering about that, too.
Placebo, are the construction point values of each unit/object based on how much of a "hit" to the performance of the X-Box they are?
Is this a means of making sure that edited missions don't render the game unplayable?
PLEASE tell me that construction points aren't points you earn when you play the singleplayer! That would be a VERY cruel trick!

Exactly what i think.
just like in the pc version we have the max of 64 units on each side, xbox also has a limit in the way of construction points.
all about polys and fps my friend http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Not 64 units but 64 groups per side. As OFP counts it, one soldier and a squad of 12 counts as one group.
So, you can have 4 x 12 x 64 units totally (around 3000) More than enough to put any PC on it's knees.

I managed to place about 10 men, an empty OH58, two barbed wire fences, a flag, an owl sound and myself.
I can't write a briefing, I can't choose what weapons I want my guy to have. I have to say that the editor in Flashpoint Elite is disapointing. Very much so.

Even though i'll only be getting OFP Elite when i get the Xbox360 to tie me over until ArmA is released that is what i feared about the console version. I suppose it's not a mission editors dream come true. So it looks like the console gamers won't be pushing the boundaries of mission ideas. When ArmA is released thats when the big boys comeout to play http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Yes, exactly.
One think which costs you a lot of construction points is increasing the view distance in the "Weather" settings section.
I managed to place about 10 men, an empty OH58, two barbed wire fences, a flag, an owl sound and myself.
Surely that can't be the maximum limit? 10 men and an OH58?
its not, ive placed much more than that

Oct 29 2005, 13:34
I didn't know about the view distance thing. I'll try to push it further with the view distance down.
Placebo, can you give us a thorough guide on how to use the editor?
How to do a weapon selection, unit values and all that stuff?
Would be much appreciated.
And more importantly, are those mission.sqm files transfereable? I tried unpboing some of the mission files that came with ofp:e and every file inside the pbo seems fine expect for the most important one - mission.sqm.
Placebo why do you get the Editor section of this forums up and running for the Xbox like you said it would be with the 4 game catagerys lol http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Well what if there were no construction points? then you could easily overload the xbox http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif
A better solution would have probably been performance-o-meter like in far cry instincts I suppose.

Looks like it is going to be Soviet body-wave attacks in a heavy fog, then! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Heres a break down of the construction points which i have found:
amount of points left after chaning the setting
View distance
Max = 400 points
Min = 7400 points
Half = 5585 Points
Everything else is cost price
Soldiers
All Men = 100
Planes
All Planes = 200
Helicopters
All Helicopters = 300
Parachute
Parachute = 120
Armoured
All "tank" type vechiles = 150
All "Car" type Vehicles = 120
Cars
All Cars = 120
Support
All tank type support = 150
All car type support = 120
Mines
Mines = 10
Ammo Boxes
All Ammo = 10
Sounds
All Sounds = 10
Objects
All objects = 10
Waypoints
Waypoints = 1
Hope this helps people, i find it bizzar that sounds and waypoints cost, i at first assumed it was due to the amount of polys in the game at any one time, but i guess its all round performance that its keeping tabs on.
^^ Thanks for the info, it will help a lot http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif ^^
Cheers... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif
Is it possible somehow to make a mission on PC and convert it(so Elite can use it), then burn it to DVD, then copy to the Xbox's hard drive and use it in Elite? I don't have Xbox, so I don't know how it works, but if there is a way, it would be pretty cool, since the Elite's editor is dumbed down, but it's not problem on PC.
I hope you get whan i mean by this. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

nope not possible im afraid
Would it be possible to create a mission on the Xbox, refine (add burn scripts, etc) on the Pc, and make it all come together?
if OFP:e doesn't supports an init line you could always specify almost everything in the script itself (conditions), and make it run at the start of a game (if init.sqm is still supported)

I think I saw some init.sqsses when I unpacked some OFP:E mission files.
Yes, everything but the mission.sqm (which is garbled) seems identical to what we have seen on PC. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif

Well, if there is any way to replace the files on the CD/DVD or anyhow replace a mission file on XBox, what would happen if you replaced a mission with another but keeping the same file name?
Espectro
Nov 6 2005, 19:02
well, it saves the multiplayer missions, right? Or the usercreated ones... you must be able to replace those files with others... over network or something?
pc versions and xbox version are not compatible
it would be possible i think to transfer the files over Action replay. this device allows you to save to mem card and then back to xbox.
Its possible.

I think one would have more luck using a modchip, HD installation of OFP:E and a FTP client.
Of course you can kiss Live goodbye with that arrangement though.. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif
guys they aint compatible, the missions show up in the list but dont load, and unless somone can get a tool to decompile the mission .sqm file then its gonna stay that way

Sweet! If we send you ours can you convert them for us?
if you gimmie a while ill tell you how to do it, still experimenting with how to get it onto a "jo bloggs" machine.
also playing with addons, no joy yet but i can place them in the editor........
Uziyahu--IDF
Nov 7 2005, 12:36
What is a Jo Bloggs machine?
And are you using Action Replay to do this?
What Action Replay package should I get?
Whoa, if you could get addons to work, that would be amazing! ***Imagine how good addons would look in OFP:E's advanced lighting engine!
Personally, I'd be satisfied just being able to play an OFP PC mission on the 'Box, complete with scripting and sound files!
But man, if you could bring in stuff like the Hang-glider, Ultra-Light (Delta Wing?), Steerable Parachute, Dirt-bike, 4-wheeler ATV, BMW motorcycle with Machinegun sidecar, etc.! ***Wow! ***What fun!
I wonder if you have to change the version # of the addon to get it to work in OFP:E.
What is OFP:E's version #? Can you find that?

Anyhow, great news, altough I'm not gonna get neither XBox nor OFP:Elite, it's nice to see that advanced mission editing will be possible on XBox.
BTW, could you test if you can do the same with campaigns?
all missions are do able, get the occasional error like missing a certain flag texture sometimes ect but they work.
jo bloggs = vannilla ie average jo, laymans terms ect
i have been out all day but i will continue to try and find a soloution of how to get missions onto other peoples xbox's
Uziyahu--IDF

And when you get an error on the Box, does it give you a pop-up where you have to hit "Okay" or does it only put white text in the upper left of the screen or what?
Or does it sometimes cause the Box to freeze or crash?
this is exciting http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif

Indeed.
you get a pop up , press A to say ok.
if the mission or addon is incompatible then you get a black screen and a lock up.
Ive managed to get a pc coop map into elite and is playable multiplayer map, just waiting to test it with people on xlink kai
*edit*
I have cti in elite now, but because ive never played it ive no idea if everything is working, i can take over towns and the money goes up but how do you normally build things?
How are you wrapping up the sqm file? with exisiting tools or did you make a tool to do this?
Uziyahu--IDF
Nov 8 2005, 14:17
Will any of these file transfers cause a person to be rejected from accessing XBox Live?
no idea, i dont have live so i cant test, but i dont see why not
if it does just delete the mission.
Just had a successful testing of a pc map via xlink kai, errors pop up such as
"username has a differnt version of map name"
but if you say ok the map is transferd and works perfectly.
now that it has been tested, and yes errors occour but i would say the maps work fine, all you need to do in order to get your pc version of the map to work in elite is to add the following entry in the mission.sqs file under addons:
"BISOFP",
as easy as that http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
*edit* make sure the missions are addon free...

In the PC version you get a new option in the action menu. Depending on the kind of CTI (MF-CTI, CR-CTI, ...) it might work slightly different, I don't know, e.g. with respect to required vehicles/buildings... ***http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/thumbs-up.gif
CTI+JIP might be a nice new feature in OFP:E.

KEVBAZ, can you see if a mission using custom sounds will play the custom sounds on the X-Box?
It would be awesome if they would play any soundtrack music tracks that you had been put into the mission. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
sure if i can find a mission with custom sounds and no addons...
http://ofp.gamezone.cz/index.php?showthis=6179
It's a campaign, but I guess you'll have no problem in disassembling it into missions. Every dialogue is in russian in this campaign.
And it's addon-free of course.
got that campaign in and working, all the custom sounds work, the intro movie doesnt quite work right, some of the scripting command must have changed slightly, but the actual missions play fine

I think CR-CTI is 'just' a bunch of scripts in the actual mission and does not require any addons.
Probably best to search in the User Mission sub-forum.
got 2 user made addons into elite http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Okay, KEVBAZ, it's time to tell us HOW!
im still trying to find out a defenitive way of "how"
I've been able to transfer a bunch of my missions to the xbox thanks to some help from Kevbaz. I was very surprise at how well they ran. I thought my missions were pretty cpu intensive but the xbox handles it beautifully. Once the missions are transfered you can play them on live or system link or by your self. There are some notable differences such as fonts, the briefings need some adjustments etc. I've converted two cti maps and they run sort of but they need to be tonned down for the xbox. The MF CTI map runs great for about 2 hours and then the models start looking blocky. Doolittles CTI map was the only mission I've come across to crash the xbox.
Once the missions are on the xbox you can easily transfer using AR. Its really too bad there is no built in method to do this, I don't play single player unless its in the editor, and I've already played BIS's MP missions to death.
IF you would like AR missions send me a PM and I can send you some missions.
hoz
managed to get more addons into ofp, but i cannot see a common link between ones that do work and ones that dont, the ones that do however do have a few problems, choppers for instance their rotor dont turn, infact its fair to say animations, apart from turning wheels, dont work at all, also vehicles lights are on constantly and landing gear does not retract. obvioulsy down to new config commands.
Uziyahu--IDF
Nov 11 2005, 00:34
KEVBAZ, try out the addons that will really add replay value to the game, like the Hang-glider, the Ultra-Light (Delta Wing? the hang-glider tricycle that has an engine... excellent for sight-seeing from the air), that Spec OPS dirtbike/motocross motorcycle, the 4-wheeler ATV, skis, snowboard, sight-seeing balloon, jet-ski, speedboat, steerable parachute, HALO soldier, etc. ***
Basically, the addons that add new ways to explore and enjoy the islands. ***These are the ones that X-Box players will enjoy the most, I think.
Adding these missions to your X-Box doesn't get you kicked off X-Box Live, right?
Doolittle
Nov 11 2005, 07:47
Maybe it's crashing the XBox because with a CTI mission you can just keep creating objects? Doesn't this push it past the allowed "Construction Points"??
Doolittle
Uziyahu--IDF
Nov 11 2005, 14:43
I suspect that the construction points limit is only a tool imposed in the editor and that the limitation isn't calculated once the mission is saved and played in-game. So, you can probably keep adding units until the X-Box soils itself. lol

Anybody have any idea which drive and directory the MP Missions you create within OFP:ELITE mission editor are saved to? i cant find them when browsing the Xbox hard drive. Secondly @KEVBAZ or anybody else that knows, when you transfer a pc made MP Mission to the Xbox which directory are you placing them in? And finally has anyone tried creating templates for the ELITE mission editor yet? Cheers.
Missions created on the xbox are in the UDATA and are accessable using a variety of Game Save programs or memory card. When you pull them off hte xbox you'll see they are broken down into sections and will be mostly unreadable.
StealthBloke
Nov 12 2005, 22:53
I guessed they would be in the UData directory, just a case of lookin harder http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif i was hoping they would all be in one folder
They will be in the ofp dir which is UDATA ID=434d005a
you need to place the mpmissions in the mp templates folder, then create a new map using that mission as a template

KEVBAZ, can we get tutorial on how to do all of this?
One thing I'd like to know is the solution to this problem, so that I don't have to remake a mission:
I made a mission in My Missions, but that was for single player. When I went to XBox Live and tried to host it, it wasn't in the list.
Can I bring it out of the single player and put it into the multiplayer so that I don't have to remake the mission?

if your making missions in the elite mission editor, and you want to make it a mp map then you have to go into system link and select new mission from the list and make it there.
making a map in the sp area then wanting to host it as a mp map wont work no matter what you do.
the only way to get pc => Xbox missions is with a modded xbox, even then its not 100% straight forward.
I was hoping to find a soloution that would eneable non modded xboxs to get pc missions and it seems the only way is joining a session where the map can be sent via the tinterweb in a mp session, even then im not 100% if the mission recieved can be selected again.
more experimenting is to be done
