Good video. The game really looks good.
Was the convoy of 3 tanks in OFP:R? I don't remember it.
Seemed like the island was more alive. You could hear other things going on in the distance.
Have the frags grenades been toned down? Looked like that frag should have gotten them, though maybe I need to rewind.
Do all vehicle views default to 3rd-person, or was that your choice?
Hehe. A lot better this time! That one soldier almost had you but he couldn't hit your head through a door way and a window. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rofl.gif
Vegetation swings softly in the wind and the world looks more natural. New Kalashnikov sound is better. It was great to see an AI soldier that sought for cover and went prone behind a tree.
And it was a shock at first to not see a grenade go off when it hit the ground. Timing actually works!
Now do a video of Armed Assault. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Great video, the island deffinitaly seems more alive now and the shadows of the buildings and trees and such seem to be improved a lot! Adds buckets of atmosphere. Maybe for the next video release somthing with team mates? just to show the guys out there new to OFP that it aint all rambo and stealing cars http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

The shadows look great, i really liked when you switched into 3rd person view and the shadow was casting on the building wall.
My only beef with this mission is that despite the fact your atacking a enemy ocupied village and gunfire is goin on that officer and soldier still stand around safely with the rifles shouldered, vodka anyone? One of the first things i noticed was when you rotated a couple of times it felt really smooth.
This game should have had a chance to compete with GR2, it would have mopped the floor with it. (i know this sounds imature and lame, thank you http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif ).
Oh yes, i also like how the crosshair fades away when you move or reload, i dont use it on PC but its feels good.

The new helo video shows correct-looking glare off of the Cobra canopy windows and the gunner's helmet.
Looks like the helo flight model is very similar to OFP:R, if not the same.
That aircraft-exploding insta-killzone needs to be fixed for ArmA. It even kills tanks, which is completely ridiculous, of course. You can actually line a mile of aircraft close to each other and by destroying one destroy the whole line at what seems to be the speed of light.

Sweet, im very surprised to see the vegetation afected by the rotors, i never thought that would be possible without a huge performance hit. The colision detection also seems perfect, no more jumping/boucing helicopters, i really wished PC OPFR was like that, unfortunetly it doesnt even work properly now http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif .
Great 1 vid (still DLing second one)
I was amazed by building textures, weapon sounds, cross thingies ... argh thats nice .. sounds, waving flora BUT
some of the AI's are still stupid ... but anyways i can see some improvements (AI hiding behind the tree, AI slowly crawling to get you on its cross) anyways some things kills me ... those 2 fellas standing near Jeep, when there is fight in the middle of the city ...
and .. i noticed that AIs were still running around the city (like mad dogs) with weapons on their back?!
Dahhh .. found one reply on xboxyde by Mr. Slabs:
"Good intro to the game aswell as it highlights just how tactically aware you need to be!"
But i think Placebo just made it to look like that! Or i am mistaken and it is quite tricky to move using that xbox "joystick" or how the hell that thing calls (never touched xbox myself).
My opinion (my!http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif: nice game, but AI remains nearly the same as on OFP1! This means that leaning is just a waste of time. I am a little bit disapointed by the AIs.

>>>the blast radius from any aircraft in OFP completely destroys EVERYTHING within its killzone. Absolutely no chance for survival. It is something that badly needs to be fixed. I reported the issue to the Brothers Spanel years ago. That is physics http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
A stinger missile can be described as an explosion itself... it destroyes targets using pressure, not "scrapnels" (spell?). The pressure that occurs when it explodes, simply ruins the chopper (or should do).
The pressure affecting the chopper is different weather or not you are on the ground (or close to the ground) or you are in mid-air. The air-flow caused by an explosion will allways try to get "out of the way" the easiest path. When in mid-air... this means Away from the chopper (ie. downwards)... On the ground, the air has this limitation, and the chopper will be affected by alot more air-flow that destroys it.
In real life, you can save alot of fuel by flying low (both in choppers and planes), by using the ground as a counter-weight to the air that is pulled downwards either by rotors or the wings.
But its really weird that you can destroy a whole line of choppers... By just blowing one up http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

I thought that the path of least resistance for any explosion in the open was up, because of the decreasing air pressure as you ascend. Isn't that why nukes make that mushroom cloud, near the top is where the pressure is weak enough that it can make the mushroom top?
In the What a Steal mission, it was nice to see that either the gun shot sound cyclic rate is no longer proportional to the frame-rate or the frame-rate is so high that it appears not to be.
I also noticed how you heard the bullet fly by and then the gunshot from the short distance of the shooter. That's cool.
Kinda weird to hear the M-16 firing without the sound of the outgoing supersonic bullet ripping through the air or sound-barrier, though. The new M-16 gunshot sound "kind of" sounds realistic, but now the shooter doesn't hear the ker-chunk of the action working and the ping of the bolt carrier assembly hitting the recoil buffer plunger. You could hear this quite clearly in the Steyr AUG sound in OFP:R, which I believe is actually an M-16 gunshot sound (just as the default M-16 gunshot sound was an actual M-16 sound).

So you´re saying that this is simulated in ofp? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rofl.gif

Placebo was demonstrating the turbulence effect on surrounding trees and grass, thats why the take off looked like a rookies first flying lesson. I too noticed the head turning of the gunner and that with the reflecting helmet just wet my appetite even more...The graphics and models look exactly like OFP:R but somehow it just looks better. Either its the new dynamic lighting or the slight blurriness of the video. I hope it's the first one.....BIS your the dogs bollocks http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif

I think it was the fountain that is placed right next to the big church http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .
Kinda nice vids, funny that ai didn´t shoot the chopper at all. Also seems like the cobra 30mm cannon didn´t have any kind of end sound, the loop just ends like it was cut with knife, just like the original ofp had. But then again i´m not worried about the Elite, i´m not gonna buy it no matter what but it´s fun to check out what new improvements Armed Assault is going to have. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif

That was probably because of multitexturing on objects; when he looks at the UAZ you can see scratches and stuff on the UAZ metal. The pretty same effect is seen on the buildings, where a different type of overlay texture is used.
I'm interested in how the grass is implemented because there is no grass on roads (at least it seems so), but there is grass on the Helipad?

little OT http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif
... nah,
those are not multitexturing, it`s a simple (not literal http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif)
layer mask added on color (basic texure) map made in
PhotoShop or whatever similar application they use.
so practical at the end, it`s one texture (color map)
made of several layers of texture,
(not multitexturing but simple PS layers ! )
now ... what might give you the think it`s multitexturing are
aditional specular maps, diffusion maps and normal maps
(superior then bump maps in all aspects), those are used
for shiness, brihtness and bumpness :P ,of color map respectivelly.

Grass is probably implemented with the island. The heli-pad is an editor placed object meaning that the grass is already on the map and they just stuck the helipad on it. It might look a little weird when you walk into tents now though I guess.

Your Photoshop layer disappears when being a little bit away from the UAZ. Those scratches are definitely not Layers, they are either applied through Multi-Texturing or through Bump Mapping (I don't believe in the latter as it didn't look like Bump Mapping or Normal Mapping to me.)

There are no specular or diffusion maps in OFP, they are just material settings which are applied to a texture through a config entry.
And like I said above, it doesn't look like bump or normal mapping to me, but perhaps someone can correct me on that one.
Regarding grass, I thought over it, it's probably some setting like roughness in CfgSurfaces; I'm already looking forward to ArmA (though this is XBox http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif )

It's definitely multi-texturing. You can also see the texture of the cloth in a soldier's uniform in one screenshot. (Would have been nice if they had used a cotton rip-stop pattern, since it is the Summer, instead of something that looks like nylon 50/50, but whatever. I've worn nylon 50/50's during the Summer-time, too.)

That's awesome how the gunner's head moves around and he seems to look at things.
That wasn't in OFP:R before, eh?
It looks like there is a real human player in the gunner's seat, now!

I am a little bit disapointed by the AIs.
http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif
Now lets see the second movie! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Yeah I am also dissapointed by the AI. It was nice to see an AI soldier take cover behind a tree and another reposition itself to get you into its sights, but their ability to aquire a target and shoot at it is still pretty terrible(they should be shooting like crazy...). The two enemy soldiers that were just standing there at the end while gunshots are being fired in the town was also very dissapointing.

Well, before they were extremely deadly at point blank range.
It takes time to swing around with an X-Box controller, so they probably took that into account in the enemy A.I. reaction time.
I tripped across the 'Do you know' section of the site Here (http://www.flashpointelite.com/did.php) and found neat tidbits of info some of us have been guessing at. And some nice pics http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

I was under the impression that all of OFP's soundtrack was created in-house. Maybe it is an original interpretation of a Half-Life track?
