View Full Version : Release....
I've heard that AA is set for release in Q4 2005-unfortunalty, I've seen little or no news regarding AA on any game sites. Is this release date still confirmed?

I do not believe that "ArA" will come out this year. I saw first online stores with an announcement of 1.Q. 2006. It seems that it is not so easy to find a publisher for this job.
So for myself, I bought last weekend a xbox :-) so I can be sure that i will play ofp with new features in less then 2 weeks http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

No new news, no new screenies, no new announcements, no new anything.. considering we're 1/2 way through October now.

The big bomb is nearly set.

Then what would be the point of calling it Armed Assault since CM owns the OFP name. They could still call it OFP if the publisher is CM. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/huh.gif Makes no sense.

I worry thats the case yes. Deadline is christmas, nothing happens before the next year after that. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif
If nothing happens soon it's gone be 2006 before we get it.
I wouldn't pressure BIS to move the release forward, that would be fatal and alot of "casualties"
could be made if they do that. But it must be released sooner or later.

I also doubt ARMA will come out this year, it would hurt OFP Elite's sales badly http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif . That is problably why we dont see much advertising now, Arma should look better and people would just wait for the PC version instead of buying elite http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif .
BIS must be focusing on ARMA's development now that elite is finally gold, they will need to finish the game, deal with the publisher stuff, advertise and promote like crazy, etc.
Wouldnt make sense releasing a secret game just to meet a rough deadline, its unfortunate for us that suffer though but 2006 seems very likely http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif .

For average owner of XBOX there is nothing connecting ArmA and OFP: Elite. Most likely just the developer, but they won't really know that. As for OFP fans... I am sure as hell not buying OFP: Elite. I can't even imagine playing it with XBOX Controller after playing it from 4 years with keyboard + mouse. I might hire it for couple of days to see what it is like, but that's pretty much it..

Thats positive and i dont know if OPF:E will represent much competition to BF2 but its probable that many people who played and liked OPF on the PC 4 years ago might wanna buy it for xbox to see what its like and the improvements BIS made. These wouldnt consider it if ARMA was to be released simultaniously. I am curious about elite but i dont console, i dont consider consoling and i have already played 85 and resistance campaigns plenty of times, i would definetly buy it if i had an xbox though but im interested in ARMA 1000 times more http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

well i´m not into publishing strategies, but i think the average publisher does have their very own release politics/schedules, so maybe a fixed release date would be their decision or at least be a matter of negotiations...
We don´t know if they have a deal with any publisher, be it codies or any other, by now. i think they would go public with that if they could.

http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif no, it's just my h opinion, based on tactics used by other software companies.. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif lets face it: look at the screenshots published officially by bis: there aren't many differences between them, and if you know (i know http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif ) that at least one person affiliated with bis is working on ofp2/next gen.pc/whatever it's called game only, theoretically you have the answer... (which is actually very sad) if arma = VBS1 it will not be rel. -without any major update to VBS bis will never release anything which is almost the same but for less money -it's obvious.... personally I think that there will be two new games next year: 1st VBS2, then OFP2, both based on the same engine.....

Hmm, seems very doubtfull to me, sry.
Goes more like this imo:
Currently there's OPF:R and VBS1, both sharing the same engine with VBS1 slightly optimised and tweaked but still the same tech.
Coming next is OPF:E (xbox), same game but on a much improved and optimised engine, performance, lighting and shadows, colision detection, a.i. etc.
A much better and improved engine version by far.
The near future = Armed Assault and VBS2, both taking advantage of an improved engine, fruit of the hard labor and glorious achievement of enhancing and making Flashpoint run smooth and look better on a outdated and weak console system.
Armed Assault being a comercial, home entertaining, software product including OPF:R and new content.
VBS2 being what VBS1 was to OPF:
Quote[/b] ]VBS1 was therefore developed as the military alternative to OFP (OFP is licensed only for entertainment). BIA was given the task of converting the product
Both will problably not only take advantage of the improvements made for the xbox version but also current or recent PC HW.
Last in the far future comes "Game2", a whole new next generation graphics engine, a whole new game with new features.
I think your mistake was throwing vbs into the mix, VBS1 is not a home entertainment product, it takes advantage of available technology and is tailored and licensed for military use with BIA creating specific material on client demand.
This is my perception of things to come, ofcourse nothing is definite but it seems to be what BIS is planning to achieve http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

I think you are confused, its probable that both the comercial ARMA game and future VBS2 product will utilise the same technology but they are distinct products with completely diferent purposes http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif .

who says that BIS will have a big ad campaign? I mean, they'd get more than enough sales from the denziens of flashpoint fanatics (which I proudly consider myself to be one of) I mean look at HL2, there was practically no commercialization of it, but it sold like mad.

Hollywood style games with these cool effects and graphics with very average gameplay are what the younger gamers buy, theres more money to be made with them. I'm just glad some companies stick to the Simulation side of things in both military and racing games as I like both.

Well it might be too early to say but the screenshots look very much like ofp. Personally i didn´t expect anything like ofp from Vietcong or H&D2, i knew they were going to be small scale fps shooters.

oh yeh and also dont forget that as we get all these amaizing graphical improvements and games become more and more realistic the gameplay times are becoming rediculously short. A great example would be FEAR where most people we confused as the final product was just a bit longer than the demo (exagerated of course but still very short). So the game industries should rather concentrate on making games fun and long and not super real (just what BIS is doing http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif). I tired of companies claiming that they have the biggest playtime, meanwhile its true just because their super duper new engine runs at 0.23 FPS on my 64bit processor. fun.

We are just fed up with the xbox version getting videos and screenshots left right and centre. While we the people that made OFP such a sucess have about 15 screenshots and no info... Its just so close to your release estimate with no news we are just concerned thats all.
Reading these posts I can feel excitement, impatience, entuxiasm, sarcasm and so on.....
I wonder if I'm the only one that's feeling scared about all the mods teams that are dying or switching to something else (maybe vbs1), mission makers that are tired to work in the ofp's limited environments, addon makers that are ceasing their activities waiting for news but with the concrete risk that they turn their attention to other games......
I'm sure that BIS is not cheating us about ArmA (it simply doesn't make sense), but at this point I think it's clear that the future of community is on the razor's edge.
Yes, we can espect a wave of new players (and new modders/addons makers/mission designer with 'em) following it's release, but what's the cost of all this?
The experience that could be wasted in the meanwhile is an high toll to pay......
This is what I'm worried about.....
Klavan
I think a lot of this confusion could have been prevented if they had staggered their Press Announcements. In the space of a couple of months we've had news that Xbox Elite is nearly finished, the announcment of Armed Assault and Game 2 and they have commitments to VBS1 community.
All of these communities want info on their particular product. Add to this the confusion surrounding Publishers and nothing concrete is coming out and of course this leads to (wild) speculation...
But I'm confident BIS will do what's best for everyone. Just hope the AI routines and collision detection from Elite make their way into ArmA !
Hei ... fellas ... please stop speculating like that (its nonsence! It just hurts my feelings! I am 100% sure that BIs is not playing with us (that ArmA is just cheap PR )! That would be unbelieveble if that would be true http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif ... thousands of fans would come to Prague protesting and shouting ... WE WANT ARMA WE WANT ARMA! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif
Then the riot would start near the BIs walls ... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/pistols.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/pistols.gif Hundreds of insured, burned cars, broken windows. Police shooting at riot with plastic bullets.
http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif BIs wont do that, thats impossible it would mean the end of BIs http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/goodnight.gif
So i still support the idea: lets wait, and hope that it will come as stated (Q4 05) ... and speculate ... a little bit ... just tiny tiny speculation among fans in the huge labirint of BIs forums away from Placebos eyes http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

I think what he is trying to say, shmerz, is that sharing your opinions are one thing, constant negativity and a lack of constructive comments are another. Placebo isn't trying to run a dictatorship, nor is he censoring anybody. It's his job. Duh
Well I can see where some of nx-illusion's comments are coming from (I too am anxious about the whole damn dilemma), some of his comments were plain-and-simply rash and not well thought-out. BIS is a very small company in comparison to others. It was/is working on 3+ games at once. Not to mention publisher woes which would most defintely interfere with development. Think twice before playing the "bitch card." It makes you look like a n00b.
Now I ain't a "mindless fanboy". I just have common sense. And yes, I know you are all anxious about ArAs, but good things come to those who wait. (Yes, I know, that's been said a lot too.) Suck it up. Sit up straight. Grow some balls (or ovaries, you ladies) and calm down.

so i wonder,
what has all that to do with the release of AA?
...looking... last update for SWAT4 was... yeah remember now...when they added all the advertising being streamed right into the game. as many many games will do in the future...
really a shame "nobody" plays OFP / VBS anymore... BIS could have added all the advertisement too then....**joking** LOL
A bit late reply like usual with me lol, I donno if anyone noticed my "interview with Placebo" in August but I confirmed that there were enough large and small publishing companies to do a world release that were interested in contracting with BIS so I believe the delay of ArmA is due to the fact that the Engine is not where they want it to be at so they are delaying release info etc.. I mean com'n you actually expect them to release the ArmA with screenshots of "converted" abrams and tanks, the only things new i've seen in the arma shots are vegetation, landscape detail, and soldiers... They're probably still working on the Vehicles, etc right now...
so I wouldnt be surprised if they delayed the release... again http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rofl.gif

Ladies and Gentlemen, Placebo said in his last interview regarding ArmA that it is starting to turn into game2 by itself. Could this be a reason for a delay, maybe they are doing more than we thinK? Anyone remeber Falcon 4.0? It took them 5+ yrs to release and when it did come out it was buggy as hell, a delay of 6months is nothing nowdays. To be fair, the two videos that were recently released of OFP: Elite showcases features that will probably also be in Armed Assault. We got a look at how the grass were implemented, and how vegetation would move with the wind and be affected helicopter rotors. There was also bump mapping (or normal mapping?) and detail texturing. Lastly, we got to see more of the updated water, which looks very good http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
And correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we get a look at insects in the first video? I also thought the explosions looked a little updated. Not to forget the bouncing grenade, even if that's not exactly new http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
I could understand complaining a month or two back, when we hadn't heard anything in a long time. I complained too back then. But right now I'm satisfied with what we have.

Acctually, OFP has one of the strongest and longest lasting communities I have ever seen for a non-mmorpg game. I'll bet any ammount of money that no where near as many people are playing BF2 in 4 years... so why we are enjoying our realistic, tactical war game that was can play for years and not do the same mission... you will be off... captureing bases over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again in BF2 till you get board after a month.
OFP dosnt teach you to kill any more then BF2 or any other game does. It just make the game more dynamic, with realistic missions, and non static gameplay. And a game set durring the Cold War... Hmmmmm I wonder whos going to be fighting who. Obviouslly its going to be west vs east... its a fact of life. Not "We hate russia, so they are who you are going to fight". You very well cant make a game called Cold War Crisis, and have the US fighting Austrailia or something....
Anyway, that update they are makeing will be a great update to a great game. If you knew anything about Arma you would know, that they have not been working on it for 4 years. It was an idea they got from makeing the Xbox game. Originally there was going to be no Arma, just Game 2. But to hold us over, they are makeing ArmA... its actually a smart move, and one that will make OFP fans happy.
One thing about your post bothers me tho... why the hell did you make an account to post here, when you dont even play OFP? You came here just to bash the developers and make an idiot out of your self? You know nothing about either game obviouslly, and have one hell of an attitude problem. Its quite obvious that you are just some 10 year old BF2 fan who things people who dont like repedativ run and gun games are losers. Well, your the loser here man.
Sorry for the off topic post guys, just my rant for the year.

1. I dont think Placebo will BAN you for your opinion, even if you wrote it rudely.
2. I agree that BIs took too much time making Arma ... i agree that BIs had no plan for the future and now rush all the things a little bit. And that pisses me off as well.
3. I am playing OFP for 4 years now and i support your opinion that OFP have hit its limits and in the future it will be in our memories. Even if the comunity is large, even if community made lots of addons, anyways, addons incopability issues are making communities work worthless. Evryday somebody makes some addons, but day after day those addons are forgotten and nobody even uses them. At the same time we see how community interpretate their fellings to OFP by making addons, missions, mods, islands.
And thats the part, that makes my fellings for OFP go mad ... sometimes i just DL some addons just to look what each community member/members wish to see in the OFP, that makes OFP unbeaten and that will make us to remember OFP for looong loong time ... forgeting all the CS and BF crap ...
4. Please give me examples of games that can be compared to OFP!
5. OFP is not a training program (like VBS) it was created to have fun. I see that you dont know a sh*t bout OFP communityand never played mp.
Just surf some forums of the clans and take a look ... those guys are very friendly fellas i had lots of good time with them online and on forums.
6. Yes ... lots of people have negative opinions about Russians (I am from east EU and btw speak Russian very well), but this does not mean that we hate em! As Most of the word have negative opinions bout Germany ... History is a thing that cannot be changed.
7. We will see if Arma was made just to get pocketmoney ... we will see ... at the moment we cant predict that. Anyways, if arma is 1.5 OFP and if it is true, BIs will loose most of the OLD community, thats for sure!
8. Even without knowing how Arma will look like i can tell for sure that your IQ is lower then most of the comentators here.

just u wait! ArmA is not only a new game or update it is a whole new playground fro modmakers. That is what it is all about to open up new boundaries with a new engine. Think about it a little. People who have PCs (and don't have xbox) won't buy Elite because they will want to wait for ArmA. And people who have xbox probably have PC as well and perhaps they will consider buying ArmA also. And there will be more sales in general before xmas simply because people have a) more money and b) are in a jolly good mood http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/xmas_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif So I wouldn't worry about it, I think BIS studied the market thoroughly already.

ARMA isn´t a "update", come on. Whom do you want to irritate?

I'll just settle this as I know what ArmA will be about just from looking at screen's. ArmA will be an update to the engine but its gonna be a completely new games with really the only old things being used will be the Original 5 Islands with some updates of course and the Campaigns, besides that everything else will be new &/or improved.
What have we seen so far?
New Soldier Model
New Soldier Textures
New Grass Models
New Physics
Updated Effects
Updated Water
Updated Vegetation
v2 of the OFP Engine
And a few more things that I cant remember right now but the point is with just those alone I would buy ArmA and consider it to be a new game.

Oct 27 2005, 23:46
I know that, but if you have seen OFP you know that a M1A1 can easly jump 2-3 meters without haveing much of a speed.
If you see the movie at flashpointelite.com, on the top-left of the screen, you can see that the tanks behave
different then in OFP. They look more heavy then in OFP.
And thats the kind of physic which is different from OFP on Elite, and I'm totaly sure that physics in ArmA is different too.

redesigned collision detection system

Consider that so far Operation Flashpoint from 2001

Well, ArmA might not be the greatest game ever (I'm sure there'll be phalanxes of people who will find something to criticise it), but even if it's a slightly updated version of OFP, you'll be able to play it again, and again, and again, and again, and so on and so forth. There aren't too many games which you can do that for, and seeing as OFP is already unique in its genre, all Arma can do is improve on that position. I'm prepared to wait for as long as it takes...

Arma will be better than OPFR itself so how can it not be the greatest game ever? That really made no sense here, sry.. and im not prepared to wait has long has it takes neither, i will wait but i dont want to, it kind of feels we should be all playing ARMA already http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif . OFP wooo ... real war sim ... do what you want, use what you want ... and arma, in my opinion, as upcoming game 2 is evolutionary product as HL2 ... idea is already been released to masses by BIstudio on 2001 March (OFP Demo) ... now we only tweak it a bit ...

game 2 is a rpg with f/tps fighting in it, as this idea havent been seen from others b4 that makes game a revolutionary product, while ArmA is cross generation evolution of a already great game with upgrades/better supports/little new things added , the release of ArmA is a big fallow up on OPF engine based game
if you somehow dont understand the idea you better go looking inside your dusty dictionary

there is no sure of what is the release date from the begining, since BI only said that they hopefully it could be release at 2005 fall which makes the release date remain in the shadow, and dont forget that the publisher is still TBA(to be announce)
So release date is on 2006 now? Why we don't have an official comment from BIS about the real release date for ArmA ? please tell us something...
Quite simple. As soon as BIS knows what the release date will be, they will tell us as soon as they see the need to do so.

would it be too much to ask about what they need to get done?

yes, i am playing ofp since 4 years, currently with ecp mod (only sounds). further more, i have a 3,2 ghz p4 pc with gf gt6600, 1 gb ram and a 19" flat screen.
i have graphic setting at maximum (frame rate, resolution etc) and i use 8x anti-aliasing.
i have to say, that ofp looks with these settings like an actual game. its foto-realism, partly. in addition i use a 5.1 surround sound system and a beamer wich supports 1280*1024 resolution. for me it is, if i am an actor in a war movie :-) i hope that i will get in the next days, the uk version of ofp elite to have a first look on the new features (waves, wind, grass for instance) which we can expect from armed assault.
but from my point of view, the ecp sound mod gave the most benefit to ofp and i hope that
a) arma / ofp:e will have it
b) ecp mod will work with arma
btw, i am still wondering why there is no competitor to ofp since 4 years... (due to the fact that ofp is a million selling game)
see you....

im guessing the game will be out just in time when you either have just spent all your money or when you will have to wait a week or two until "payday" 25th up here http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif so somewhere between 25 of novembre and 25th of december http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif i dunno im just thinking to much but as the old saying goes , something good comes to those that wait or something like that http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

I would have no clue what publisher to take. But most probably it will be Atari for the benelux, as they also published OFP:E in it.

I've had it confirmed a second time that Atari (distributor in Benelux) distributed the game last week.
would be rather strange when they would take a different publisher after they found one for the xbox game, mostly they stick to it http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

If I had to choose a publisher I'd pick Ubisoft
Ubisoft have turned GR and R6 franchise into console arcadish exclusives, with the next generation consoles coming out you can bet they wouldnt be very interested in publishing BIS games for PC, not interested in seeing dumbed down ports either, not even to mention starforce http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif .
http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/pistols.gif >>> Ubisoft!
Wellllll, they also have some truly rockin' sims (pacific fighters, silent hunter III. blah blah blah ok, that's the end of my list...). And does the publisher MAKE the games?? Oh no they do not http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif (though they would like to have you THINK that with the size of their logo on the box http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif ) Just hope that BIS's resolve will stay the course against the tide of publisher phone calls saying "Just get it out. C'mon, we'll make some money... Then you make a little expansion to fix some of the things you originally wanted to put in, and make some more money" - ad nauseum.
BI has a great track record, I'm not worried. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif
No but the publishers come in and tell the devolpers what should be in it for what will give the most sales. That atitude is growing old, diferent people prefer diferent games, some do like both arcade and realistic games, EA seems to focus on publishing mainstream products targeted at a wider audience, we dont have to buy their jun.. products if we dont want to http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .
Im sure BIS will make a contract with a publisher to release their software but they will still remain a independant company, its not like their selling their souls http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif .

I think the new direction of the R6 and GR was totally chosen by red storm themselves. Codemasters is quite fond of starforce too, they were one of the first companies to adopt it.
well well, its now November and we have yet to hear anything about a possible release date. i wouldnt be too happy if BIS waited ti'll the last minute of this last quarter to announce that AA will be delayed.
i hope they give us something in the next few weeks if not earlier. it wouldnt look good on them if the last quarter passes with out any information on a possible change of release date.
it's better to be informed over the reasons as to why AA is delayed, then to have the stated release date pass only to leave the community in the dark. at lease give us something to help us understand what is going on, and help to quench this fire that has been brunning for a while now.

Exactly.. You really think Ubisoft forced the developers to change the game from realistic to arcade, without the developers wanting to? Sure, they might have suggested "An arcade game might sell better", but I honestly doubt they would/could change the game without the developer wanting to..
Anyway, as for a release Q4 this year, I kinda doubt it will happen.. Maybe Q1 next year, which would be a shame, as it'd lose all the christmas sales, and after c'mas, after people who play games have got all the games as presents, probobaly aren't going to go out and by more games.. Which would then cut the sales down to only people who like OFP largely..
But a surprise release in a month or so would be good *hint hint* http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

Guys http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif , its not relevant to the topic at hand but everybody knows RSE started developing kid shooters when UBI took over, like.. their no longer a independant company like BIS http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif .
Has for Aras release i feel we are still far from seeing it coming http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif , looking back i would have expected to be playing something new from BIS by now but 2k5 will end with no Aras and no OPF2...
I would say, no news is good news.
Maybe BIS will announce in 2 weeks that it is finished with videos , a new site, and everything else. I honestly see no reason why everybody sees it delayed. Some games came out of nowhere, without any news just 1/2 week before releasing the game.

You know I don't really post on subjects like these but I'll ponder this.
Getting a good game publisher must be as hard as getting a record deal. I personnally know several people that are incredible singers and are also pleasing to the eye. They have sung everywhere but have yet to get a break. Contrast this with the hundreds of albums in the stores recorded by people with no real talent.
Back to my point.
Look at the promotion of other games of this ilk, most notably "Call of Duty". There is an hour long special about it on the Military Channel, here in the states. Now "Call of Duty" is a good game but it has NO WHERE the lasting appeal that OFP has. However, this TV special makes it seem that their developers have invented everything to do with military first person shooters. Imagine if our game had half this much promotion but sadly, I see the new games being overlooked as well. Money and accollades go not to the best but to the loudest.

EA ... dark empire between publishers, dumbed any game they got control over
UBI ... they canceled too many good projects and dumbed out many others but yet they got some good titles but i think it's just pure luck http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
VU Games ... evil twin of UBI ... in paleblue..
CM ... no idea but theirs PR about OFP/OFPR was not enough but still they helped OFP be published at all ...
Atari ... ehm, i know they publish OFP in Australia but they done lot of "wrong steps in last 2 years" and they lost UT2007 to Midway ...
Strategy First ... omg, nearly bancrupted by wrong decisions but who knows maybe after restructure they better
Sony ... hmm no chance they will for sure demand OFP2 to be just PS3 exclusive as reward ...
Microsoft ... well , that will be interesting publisher http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif ads everywhere and what about OFP2 as bonus to each Vista Home (entertainment edition) install ? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif))
Lucas ... hardly that care about SW and so http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
SCI ... hmm they got some neat titles and working distrib
Midway ... well Epic moved from Atari to Midway ... that tells something ...
find publisher must be really hard work http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif more i think about bigger freezing in my neck http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

but keeping us dangleing from a thin string by our teeth, not knowing what is going on is not cool at all.

How about GOD Games? They've published two of my favourite games of all time, Mafia and H&D2, and lots of other good games.
My share of adding fuel to the rumor machine is that I believe BIS is under contract with Codemasters that it will not reveal the publisher of AA even if it has one. All this because Codemasters surely does not wan't BIS and it's new partner stealing consumer attention from OFP:Elite. Also, advertising essentially the same game with different titles on different platforms while OFP2 is being devoleped at the same would be a bit confusing too.
November 8th is the big day since it's the OFP:E US release day and if we won't hear about AA after couple of weeks after that, then I'm certain AA has moved to Q1 2006 at least.
I'm still for a STEAM-like solution.

This shows me, that you have actually no real idea about steam.
It's now running really smooth since one year, although I never had probs with it at all.
A few days ago, the Lost Coast lvl, based on the new HL 2 engine was released and it was about 300 MB, so a big pack to download. I loaded it just after the release, as many thousand others did all around the world. The download took about 10 minuts, than I could play the lvl and everything worked fine.
You should try nowerdays steam and then judge about the system!
i also think steam would be a nice thing to have for ArmAss since it d/l the latest patches and can even work to d/l new addons.
I really really like the idea of steam-style content distribution (cheap prices.. multiple installs.. no destroyable media) but the implementation seems little shaky so far.. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif

For Arma http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/confused_o.gif , i mean i dont have HL2 but unfortunetly i dont think Arma will be a several multi million best seller out there capable of supporting and maintaining this system, plus setting up and maintaining this service must be veery costy and work is being done on the true OPF sequel. I really dont see any advantages and doubt BIS will release many content for Arma after release, would a steam system be really worth it? I doubt it...

How 'bout Activison or Sierra? Both gotta be rolling in money 'cause of F.E.A.R. and Quake 4, and both have published quality games.
Activision did alright with R:TW but lost publishing rights to SEGA.

It would be a miracle if we get ArmA this year... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Sierra = VU Games ... and if i look at mistakes done with FEAR ... nvm ...
We wont see Arm As till early next year. Theres no way they can get a publisher and package, then release the game within 2 months, which to me dont make any sense at all. Xmas is the peak $$$$ time It is a little disapointing to not have any more info considering we are still here playing after all these years. Perhaps even as late as March next year. This is one time I hope I am wrong though
