I think this mod would have a greater chance of survival if it would focus on one single conflict and did it well, you are promissing 20 years of war and more than 7 diferent armies http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif . One conflict, 2 armies, one island and one campaign would be enough and still a big load of work and effort http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

It seems near impossible to finish your mod in time for the ArmA release if ArmA is supposed to release in Q4 2005, and it is Q4 2005. How are you going to manage to complete a mod that quickly? ***Especially when right now your still in the planning stage.

Ah... got to love optimism! But he has a point. It'll be a LOT of work, and we don't know what they've done with the engine yet so it'll be quite slow at the start, however similar it is to OFP as you'll be getting used to the new features and everything. Anyway good luck with it. A mod about Panama would be quite interesting, if you're starting with the 80's (or was that the late 70's? meh).

I dont know, mods about conflicts that had less casualties than your average medium-sized mission has does'nt sound like a very good idea. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif

@ Madus_Maximus: More then likely it will come as an expansion, Im thinking our first area of conflict will be around the The seizure of the American embassy in Tehran in 1979, which is earlier then I was thinking but it would be the only pre 80's confilct, its a good place to start.. as it involved todays modern Delta Force which was then called the "Special Tactics Units"...

is this mod going to be making new versions of stuff, or will it be aggregating and standardising all the excellent stuff the community has produced in the last two years?

seeing as almost everything has already been made for OFP and it remains fully compatible with AA, do we need to reinvent the wheel?

the mod campaign makers biggest downfall is the MESS of different mods and addons that are needed to get a mod campaign working, i can't be bothered!

what would be ace is if someone took all the best mods that exists, make sure they are fully operational in AA, ensure they are totally JAM3/CAVS compliant and then release the whole bundle in one pack (with authors permission of course).

that way i would have one d/l which would contain all the pre-requisites for a running a mod campaign from >most< of the major teams.

it could be updated every three months with fixes and updates and also those new mods that had successfully petitioned their entry into the uber-AA-modpack.

i love what you guys have produced, but i really can't be stuffed to d/l each mod one by one, install one by one, only to find that one of the many mods is version incompaitable and thus preventing the campaign from running, with the only solution being to uninstall the lot and start again.

this could be a better way.

we have standard weapons and standard vehicles, we could have standardised add-ons as well

if any non standard uber-AA-modpack addons were included it would be the responsibility of the campaign maker to package them in with their own installer.

oh it would be bliss!

XeLSiS
Oct 9 2005, 15:59
I've participated in a mod that did that for CTI, aka, ROX Modern Combat Mod, and it worked nice but the variety of realism and detail was to great, hence why we have to reinvent the wheel.

Well I just wanted to ask how many addons are you willing to create for this mod....I mean im in iraq now and there are soo many different variations of the humvee and uparmored vehicles and from the time you specified......there were several different kinds of equip. So what does everyone think about the Tehran Incident in Iran in 1979 as being a good start point for the mod's first campaign?
The mod idea sounds great, but I think Armed Assault will have high quality units and vehicles etc which alot of them are meant to be "Modern" by reading the AA site, so I think a lot of the release stuff can be used or edited if possible instead of recreating them from scratch. Everyone will have to wait and see I guess. AA Site "Get ready to explore MASSIVE environments and save your skin in the heat of modern ARMED CONFLICT."

BTW, this topics says "Modern Warfare Mod" and your going to make a campaign back in 1979, 26 years ago? Modern Warfare would be something like in IRAQ using the current equipment the different Army's use etc. Modern Warfare means something thats happend in recent times or currently happening, just like if you bought a Modern car it would be fairly new etc.

Reminds me of buying "Modern" PC parts, they are old by the time I actually install the thing into my PC by how fast companies release new parts lol.

lol, well you have a point, the reason im lookin into Tehran as a start is because it was Delta Forces first Assault in the real world and was using modern weapons like the M4 so...

If you like to simulate the incident to scale you'll have to include evil sandstorms, bad navigational and technical problems, and nice effects for a RH-53D crashing into a EC-130. Don't forget the extensive firefight with the fuel truck.

Yep, we have already seen a great looking M16, its possible that earl could be making new ARMA weapons, if thats the case expectations are high in the weapon department, better wait for ARMAS release, play it and then decide to mod it http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif .

I would suggest starting on things that you know won't be in the game or atleast there is reasonable doubt that it will be.

Ex. Buildings for the Tehran Map or the Hostage Takers

Armed Assault has to have everything that OFP did which is why there is an M4. Atleast I think it does because I don't know how you could play the original campaigns in it otherwise.

Concerning a theme for the mod, what about the Rescue Operation for Basher Five-Two in Yugoslavia. It's an example for a classical CSAR-mission. It was conducted by the USMC.

USS Kearsarge, LHD, starting, ending point for the operation.

AIR ASSET: 2x AH-1W Super Cobras (CAS in the Langing zone and escort of the transport choppers); 2x CH-53E (Transport of Ground Assets); 4x AV-8B Harrier (CAS)

GROUND ASSET: Securing element, 15 men (securing the Landing Zone); Search element, 15 men (searching for the pilot and getting him to the chopper)

Besides that there were also an AWACS and two USMC F/A-18s involved, but it's not necessary to include them in the mission since were high above the operation area.

OPFOR, bosnic Serbs, usual equipment, lots of AA.

During the real operation the only contact with enemy forces was when the choppers flew back to the LHD and got shot upon by AA. Actually the bosnic Serbs were to slow so they didn't met the CSAR-force at the LZ. For ofp one could make them perhaps a bit faster so that you have a firefight at the LZ.

Most of the units involved have already been done for OFP, the CH-53E, the Super Cobra, the only stuff one would have to make is the LHD, the Harrier, some 1995 Marines and the Terrain.

Most of the advancements that have happened in the last 15 years can't be really modeled in FPSses.

I always kind of viewed end of Vietnam war as the beginning of this era of warfare.

i think you should just do Desert Storm then Operation Iraqi Freedom so they get Iraq in '91 and '05 http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/whistle.gif

Nothin happened in the Iran incident anyway. They didnt rescure them becuase some of the chopers had proplem and blew up. So what the point of doing something like that. Do the Iran-Iraq war, something original http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

The human wave tactics mostly used by OFP AI when attacking would suit that war indeed. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/yay.gif

I think that it's a bit too early to make a MOD for a game which isn't even published yet. it would be better to wait before deciding for a such purpose.
http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Btw we expect to make enhancements for ArmA only if it's required.
If BIS will bring a game which won't need any sound, models, ammunitions values...etc improvements then we won't do anything, though. :P

Creating the models can take some time so why don't make them now and import them later especially when normal mapping is supported :P.

BergHoff is right. Nothing wrong about you guys getting it ready for OFPAA when you can import it. Even as a fan of something that hasn't yet been develeped I know that sometimes....you need to wait and see. GIVE IT A GO FELLAS!

Mein gott, Xel, don't come on the forum like some anonymous person announcing the MOD and expecting anyone to take it seriously. To clarify, Xel heads Kaos Squad (http://www.kaos-squad.org), one of the largest OFP squads out there, of which I'm a member; I'm also one of the people giving a hand. Previously we were working on a mod called Pacific War that was intended for both OFP and AA, but now it is AA only.

Basically, if you want to jump into the new scripting advancements in AA, Modern Warfare could definitely use someone to help bring the high-fidelity content to life. Just to give everyone an example of the kind of refinement we're going for with the objects, here was the P-51 that was going into Pacific War, roughly 3500 polys (max LOD):

How about Panama or Grenada? Suprized that nobody has mentioned those operations yet. They're modern day and were pretty large scale US ops.

@ dachrinne: We will for sure get a bosnia and chech campaign, that is defenetly on our list, though I cant say for sure when, but we havent decided where to start, I was earlier speculating about the Iran incident and lookin at it, but as I said, nothing for sure yet as a start, but will defenetly get those down.

@ Baz: someone did mention Panama earlier I forget, we might get to those, I'd say 75% chance we will.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep them coming http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Sorry havent really updated this forum in awhile, I been like REALLY busy lately and such, and doin that SCORE Magazine Translation for OFP.info, which is taking alot longer then I thought it would, but ya...

Atm, Klesk is texturing the AH-1's, I think he's starting on a Desert Camo? I dont remember..

And as far as a new projects are concerned were gonna start work on finely tuned weapons, in particular for this moment,

M4 Carbine
M-16A2 Assault Rifle
M-16A2 w/ M203 Grenade Launcher
AK-47 Assault Rifle
AK-74 Assault Rifle
AK-74 w/ Grenade Launcher

It probably wont be a couple weeks until we have some screens of those, however im pretty sure most people havent seen our AH-1 Model Pics http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Heres an older pic, this is the base model for the exterior object.
