There's Nothing here that we Don't already Know about. However, it's nice to see the Media machine Kicking into gear.

Only new part is the bit about you having "personal objectives", having to pursue and assasinate a "foe from our past." Sounds a bit cheesy but fun and workable.

Also, I can't quite understand how they can describe the graphics as "functional" - christ, what're they expecting from a game this massive?

And, yet again, the mass media haven't been taking notes properly - early 2006? We wish...

Too bad most of the article is about "Game2", and they included a screenshot from ArAs. If I were an non-informed reader I would think that screenshot was from "Game2" http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif

Didnt Gastowski say he had a bullet with Gubas name on it in the end of the resistance campaign? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

I think the story will center around James Gastovski, as you will be hunting a foe from the past and will evolve into a SF soldier (hope BIS uses the name of a real life SF unit this time, but that goes for all units, not just SF ones).

(That and the hints that were in Resistance like the bullet and the many campfire stories of how kick ass Viktor and James were in the SF http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge_o.gif )

Funny, because the leader of codemasters was used as a face for Guba...

I think Guba's death is nearing http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

But who own the rights to the characters?
In OFPxbox they've changed the faces of every main character exept Guba and Angelina. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/mad_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif

Quote[/b] ]Bohemia describe this as the game they've always wanted to make, a realisation of their vision of a truly dynamic combat game. The big guns come out early in 2006.

Well that confirms what I expected, we are fighting the Russians again.
Maybe Putin got to be a dictator?
Putin was a pure evil man afterall, being ex-KGB and all that.

Nope, on 1985's last mission i threw guba out the hinds door into the sea, he's long dead now. I must say i could care less about those old cheesy characters, tell me about new aditions/content and improvements to the game instead.
I bet BIS will change the characters for ARAS and xbox versions anyway http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge_o.gif .

Who cares about characters from original OFP anyway? I don't really want story anymore, just fighting! Cold War type stories are always crap anyway. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

@<hidden> - Presumably the July edition is only available for the subscribers, i've not seen anything on the shelves as yet. Otherwise, quite a nice article to release to the unconverted masses.

Over at the PCG forums there is always a lot of love and praise for OFP everytime it gets mentioned so im confident the media support should be there.

Update - The July edition also contains the FDF filles (1.3 i presume. Its 475630 Kb's in size if that helps), always handy for backup.

and the MEC final missions, but not the required addons for some reason. Strange as there is plenty of room on the disk now that movies are not going to be on the cover disks in future (something to do with age ratings im lead to believe).

Maybe they couldn't get all the permissions for the addons, I dont know.

Heres hoping that given the renewed interest in OFP that further large mods will be included on future disks. Thinking I44 and that sort of thing.

Edit - Patches up to v1.46 included too.

First of: Invasion 1944 is no longer ment for release. the team is simply making the addons to polish their skills.

It's nice to see OFP mods published on a disc four years after release, I hope we get ourselves a bigger community... more cannon fod, heh http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

Well, after four years or reworking perfect looking addons I think his story was rather believable, yes http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

This is not really the topic, but what is the reason for delaying a mod four years? (if you dont want to continue this in public that's fine, but I would like an answer). http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Pefection, our aim is to create a realistic simulation of world war 2, thats why its taken 4 years ;)

But therse a difference between "Perfection", and "Ever releasing the mod"..
To attain perfection, you could be working on it for the rest of your lives.. And whats the point in that? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rock.gif

Theres is no (I can't stress that enough) point in not releasing something. If noone released anything, this community would be gone. if you give even the remotest-damn about the community, you will consider acctualy releasing "Invasion 1944: Phase One"..

Hmm, with OFP2, I really hope it's like what it sounds in a campign mode, BUT, still have the mission editor etc.. The way it reads in that scan in makes it sound like Planetside or something, which will good for a while, really limits the modding-protentioal a lot. But I really doubt that will be the case http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

If I can bring the topic, slightly back on-topic! and I have the benifit of Wildo's attention (hi wildo, long time lurker at I44 forum, never got round to signing up, looking forward to the newsletter),

Do the I44 team plan to ask any of the computing mags to host the someday release? Or am I better off asking the computer mags to hassle you for permission at the appropriate time?

Having the mods on the cover disks makes life much easier for the 56k'ers and promotes non regular OFP players to re-install flashpoint and to appreciate your works and to appreciate the progress that has been made in the last few years over vanilla OFP.

(plus I dont have to re-download the mod when things inevitably go wrong!)

Cheers.

If Guba was dead who else could be a "battlefield foe from the past"? It just seems to funny to have Game 2 focusing on the assassination of the leader of Codemasters http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Placebo is going to eat ya http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif (Edit: that was aimed at Ade, yes)

sorry for starting the off topic crud, let me make it up:

We currently have three release dates: Q4 2005, Q1 2006, and Q4 2006... problem is: THERE ARE ONLY TWO GAMES!! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif

somebody! please! don't tell me they're delaying aras to Q1 2006!

Isn't one of the release dates Codemasters Operation Flashpoint 2?

There is one release date (Spring 2006) on the CM page, that's probably for their game.

Then ArAs is probably Q4 2005, and Game 2 is probably Q4 2006 http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rock.gif

Back on topic: one of the dates could relate to the xbox release date. But there are plenty of threads on that subject
