One of the critical things I should ask from bis is this.

* Add support for Dual Core and MP processing, OFP1 Server code will not cut it as you can see that the dual cpu market is about to boom and its becoming hard to justify buying a single core setup just to suit OFP.

So have that as a MUST, there was details about the different types of threadings you could approach but Im no wiz on that. Just have good support for it ;)

* Another suggestion was perhaps you could add in the function to LINK missions in Multiplayer, so you can play a entire campaign without choosing the missions part by part. Perhaps allowing the missions to be selectable after you select the main campaign in the mission list then using the param1 and 2 selections for the inbedded missions?

This would just open up a more easy management of OFP MP stories.

Also I can't remember my chats with BIS a while ago but does 1.5 support underground tunnels etc as in caves. Cant remember if that was in or not.

I'm sure there are lots more things but for now that is all I have on mind.

Specifically what is needed there is robust multi-threading. That way the logic bits can be scattered across avaiable CPU's and cores. That said, that makes it much harder in some ways to do a linux port as the threads logic is - iirc - significantly different between windows and linux. If a suitable abstraction layer were built for the various game functions it might just work though.

Or just leave threading support for windows platforms to start with,. Then add it in for linux later on, better then nothing http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Also BIS, add respawn functions in the editor so its easier to test MP missions.

Voice Over IP would be good. It would take some of the hassle out of sorting out Team Speak or the like. It was there before so it can be there again.

On the Fly mission editing, like in VBS1.

So that the game controller can script the mission on the fly, or use it as a trainer and make the team redo things they did badly.

A "DungeonMaster" so to speak within the game.

Auto addon dloader that has settable xfer speed and optional FTP dload

MP clients will only load addons the server is running, this will help prevent allot of cheats, this will mean when the Client starts up OFP he sees just a menu and servers with his addons, and servers with out

Some form of Addon system, addons drive me nutz

ohhh and in game sounds that do not delete to save servers from uploading the same sound

players can manage thier home dload folder and remove sounds if needed

and make sure if a custom player face is deleted it is replaced by standard faces and not a WHITE backdrop

A server admin menu panel, no more #kick # commands
with storable ID and IP ban list that even record player's name ID and IP for server that do not have IP banning

and a FULL Conect and error log that renames it self monthly, the netlog we have now stores crap that has to be filtered out

We have made a autoaddon downloader tool at ofp.ipgn.com.au. Uses super compression and works well, thought its not a ingame one it is still a usefull tool & supports many functions.

Few of things that have come to my attention:

There should be two types of JIP function that are settable in the mission desc file.

1) First one is perhaps to allow people who drop, a chance to rejoin and resume their charactor (or any maybe),.

2) Second would be a function to allow users (any) to join into mission slots that are unused &/or being used by AI (playable slots)

The first function would be handy for games that take a long time to finish like CTI matches and often people drop by accident or link dead issues, so it would allow them to reconnect and resume play. Yet prevent unwanted players from jumping in whenever and ruining things.

3) Another feature worth mentioning is perhaps some forced team balance option which is settable inside the desc file that prevents 3v10 matches etc, perhaps allowing only either team to have ONE player more then the other forcing people to be only on the weaker side (would resolve odd and even number of players).

4) Another would be a easy to do ingame ban function that is easy to perform such as adding a BAN icon to the P(player screen), And perhaps making it so that only LOGGED in admins can do such a thing. (would add banned chaps ip and name to the banlist.txt file)

While im at it I should mention that it be nice to also be able to specify the reason for banning like perhaps a popup box or #ban <user> <reason> function. And also adding a Date to the Banlist so you know when it occured

My 2 cents.

Last but not least is perhaps a easy to use tool that you can run on addon pbo files that checks all class names inside them and reports conflicts and such that would otherwise be difficult to track.

This would allow server admins to correct GOOD but faulty or conflicting addons without spending HOURS tracking down the culprit.

RN Malboeuf mention of the sound/faces/squad logo data that is sent to all clients, just wish to expand on this idea and perhaps suggest that we have a option in the game somewhere that tells the server that you do not wish to receive this data, this would make MANY dialup users feel happy. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

I wish for a fix to the desych dramas...

Ability to store MP missions into a favourites folder for recall later or maybe a rating system so it is easy to find the 5-star missions on a server.

VOIP with VOX. The options for comms OFP are great (ie direct, team, vehicle ect. ) just need better comms quality. Maybe a radio with channels and encryption.

Ability to split and add players from different teams on the go. So if 2 or more teams end up with only a few players in them it would be nice for this teams to be able to join together.

Record function that is able to output as a MPEG. Just to remember those great missions. or use for training to debrief ppl.

Feature to download missing addons prior to a mission rather than just getting booted. WIth this feature let the server have the ability to direct you to a mirrored site for the addons so not to overload the server.

good work... gonk

VBS1 has a ingame record function so I don't see why BIS can't just use that or make one using the same idea. Doesn't covert to Mpeg thought (you can do that afterwards) however it does allow more dynamic control of how the action is seen.

Good tool for ingame recordings is fraps.

great ideas guys, auto addon handling would be really nice.
a massive on-going JIP battle would be great, as long as the server can hack it, lag is bad!

Windows XP Nat and UPNP support, so that servers automatically configure any firewalls on either windows or port forwards itself through any router.

And a test run to see if multiple clients on the same lan can still join an internet server through one gateway with only one IP address. (assuming that cd key copy protection addded to the game, and each client has it's own individual cd key).

Would be good if there was a way to enforce "certain" video settings has per server side, only optional like brightness and contrast so everyone sees the same in night missions http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif .

->good< 1:1 spectator script and an ingame lobby, maybe something like an ingame irc client/lobby.

-smooth animations/movement of soldiers (not like cs or noob battlefield 1944 / cod animations)

-working for all to hear horn in cars rofl
radio in cars with mp3 lmao jk

-LOOOONG good ofp campaign(s) (not so short like the reisstance one).

-as realsitic as possible sounds of guns and vehicles

-missions editor with syntax/command libary (help)

-easy patch system (we can all remember the old patch problems at the beginning with ofp) /"auto-ingame-online-updater"

-new corner-scope-system (against "corner camping")

-webinterface to command the server

joint operations style grass.

it's not rendered in the distance but people obscured by it are not renedered also.

so a guy in the distance kneeling in grass would only have the visible part of his body drawn. say from the waist up, while a sniper lying down might only have his head and rifle drawn.
but a bloke running can be seen from the knees up.

Anyway, i think we should stick on topic before this one gets the lock too http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .
Turn out from armored vehicals, last i remember it didnt work in MP has you couldnt see other players that were turned out, would be worth a fix i think.

Moving to OFP2 Suggestions, as Suma said here (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=64;t=46442;st=150), most of the suggestions that will be popping up for ArAs either will or have come up for OFP2 suggestions. So to reduce duplication and confusion, please post your ideas (preferably after searching to see if they've already been suggested) in the OFP2 Suggestions Forum. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
