So far, not impressed with the visuals. Player models are better, but everything I'm seeing in the background is not what I'd expect from a new game this day in age. I didn't wait this many years for last year's game.
That aside, I don't know what kind of gameplay improvements they have in store, so I'm still pretty excited to hear anything about that.

sounds good to me, OFP2 wont be released before winter 2006, and the JIP will make MP fun as hell!

AA is only savoury before OFP2, but I taste this dollop.
I need OFP2 trailer http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

I heard somewhere that this is it... THer will be no Flashpoint 2.
i guess noone has Copyright to OpF http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge_o.gif , we can use OpF2
Maybe Operation Haschjoint
this is ofp2! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif (u know ,the named armed assault game it is infact the ofp2! but codies are the name owner ,and bis can´t call armed assault ofp2 !) corect me please if im wrong! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

it's simple OFP-Operation Fallpoint

I think its a great idea. Operation Flashpoint is my favorite game of all time, I still play it even though it's pushing 4 years old now (other games i get bored of in a matter of weeks). The new engine looks up to par with other games on the market, the JOIN IN PROGRESS, which is huge for online gaming, and the advancements of AI. After this is released I think if OFP2 is released in 2006 it'd be considered to soon.
This will be Great For Mods becuase they will now have better scripts to work with meaning that they will produce better addons http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif
Sounds great, just what community need´s before ofp2. I really can´t tell about the graphics improvements but that join in progress sounds very good. Only bad thing about this is that it propably means more modding and no vacation http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif .

Ah BIS gave us so many updates and now this an improved engine that fully supports all addons, It just can't get any better! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
I do hope Armed Assault introduces those few nifty scripting functions and eventHandlers from VBS1 and maybe few more...

AA is NOT OFP2.... that is known for sure. Its basiclly OFP with a better engine, new story, and diffrent maps as I understand it. Its very clear that the AA screenshots are totally diffrent then the OFP2 screens. Its kinda like OFP 1.5

Nooo Nooo Nooo!!!
Armed Assault is OFP1.5 an engine upgrade but a step taken to rectify some terminal faults in OFP1's engine and to keep the community busy till OFP2 is release in late 2006/early 2007.
Dont mix this with OFP2 , codemasters have trademarks of Operation Flashpoint with them there was calling the game OFP2 is not allowed but we'll see what happens we have 2 years till its release hopefully we'll get the name back.
And AA is NOT OFP2 its an upgrade for the current OFP and BIS is not stopping here OFP2 will be made so everyone quit getting confused and propogating these wrong rumours.

Some very good points i think, they will suly want to make money from this before flashpoint2 hits the streets, pluss when flash2 does come out, AA will die, unless the two are compatable...?
I'll be getting the gameany way. I love Flashpoint 1, (Flashpoint 2 will also be added to my collection in due time).
One thing that concerns me though; is this basically a supped up multi player game like Joint Ops? Or will it have a decent single player game? I'm not an online gamer and was put off buying joint ops becose of that.
I'm sure AA looks and plays very well, and it has the mission editor and everything, but i want a game that i can play on my own http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

When an minour changes are made to a product it gets a new version number (like 1.3 or 1.96 (current ofp));
When significent changes are made, ones that change the original format, the whole thing gets bumpped up a level (like 2.0 etc).

Were talking about the game engine and it doesnt matter what the norm is or isnt. those 1.30/1.46/1.75/1.90 are exe numbers not games engine progress. These changes made will be significant but compared to OFP2 they are not much i mean gameplay wise , the improvements made to AA by BIS are nothing but a shortcoming we've known for a longtime and some of it we tried to rectify ourselves in the community. So it will be 1.5 and not OFP2. Its an upgrade of the Posieden to 1.5 status.
While 2.0 known as OFP's successor a proper one and not an interim fix to keep us busy shall be released later , from what i gather what ralph said it has some features never seen before like dynamic missions/terrain , things we havent even begun to think about here yet.

I think this is fantastic, because OPF is too good to let it die, and an updated/improved Flashpoint will be super, even more considering there will be some new content too, i think MP will be a great experience and i cant wait to replay the CWC 1985 campaign with the new engine and graphics, and also see what new possabilities for addons and missions the new version offers, i am very happy with this anouncement because i really like OPF, bring it on http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

In my opinion this upgrade(Armed Assult) for "OFP" is going to be the best thing for our Community.
I have been playing this game almost from day one and believe me spent numerous $'s on other games always falling back on OFP.
Anyhow,
One of the biggest changes that has been announced and will put us back on the map is the "Join Game in Progress"!!!!
That alone is worth $'s and will definatley refresh interest in "OFP", especially for the ones who luv the game but hate the "Waiting for To Start" or for the poor souls that "Lost Connection" when into a 2 hour game.
BIS bring it on!
PS: Where can we pre-order?

Well, i think Armed Assault will be like OPF and more in a improved engine so i see no reason for people not to upgrade to it http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif , plus we dont know the price yet but im sure it will be worth 50 alot more than Doom3 was worth 60+ or other games that colect dust after 10 hours of play time were worth their price, i will buy two copies of Armed Assault because i believe it will deliver many hours of entertainment http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

Look at those trees in the background of the shot at the base on Everon. State of the art! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif Note the shot of the Black Ops taken from the intro of the Resistance campaign and the new Resistance guy with a fist logo on his cap and arm (I think that seems way too organized btw).

May 19 2005, 18:56
It seems to me that AA is just like another OFP: Resistance style upgrade (only more major). This is perfect, IMO, since it would be a shame to create a new game that is similar to the old, but incompatible with scripts/addons made for the old.
What more could you ask for?
We are getting join in progress (wonder how MP editing will work now...), we are getting improved physics, and we are getting slightly better graphics (real noses and fingers).
I'm more than willing to shell out $50 extra bucks for it, and everyone else should be too; seeing how we have all enjoyed OFP1 for how many years now? BIS deserves to be rewarded for their great work, and since they keep pushing OFP2 back, wouldn't you rather they release SOMETHING now, instead of waiting for the whole thing?
Thanks BIS!

one honest advice:
BIS should outsource its promotion pictures to the CP professionals
because pictures featuring units with hands through weapons, scanty clads of grass and pancake surfaces do not really emulate "pimp your ofp engine"-level reached by the community.

Not concerned with the ingame men, equip, only the engine .Hopefully it solves the shoot thru walls and vid clipping. not to mention semi intel. AI. The community of amazing addon makers, Scripters will supercharge an improved game engine causing OFP2 to be put off another year because of the brilliance in the OFP community. Hats off to all OFP persons. Yall are incredible.
Ill but 10 copys of Armed Assault just to show my appreciation to BIS for keeping the engine open source.

Just from looking at screenshots and reading the press release I can see a few improvements.
1. Improved graphics: AA has 3D trees and bushes, not billboards or 3D/billboard hybrids.
2. 100km X 100km maps total out to 10,000 km^2, which indicates streaming terrain. This means modmakers like myself can now create extremely detailed environments.
3. Improved engine for physics. I see water in waves on the ocean, something unheard of in OFP. If it uses the improvements added to VBS1, we can do a lot more for the community.
What I hope it includes:
A. Better collision detection and clipping problems solved.
B. Allows smaller terrain details and water at multiple levels.
C. Better AI.
Not impressesd. I'll save my money and keep playing OFP:GOTY with the mods.
I'll post again in 2006 when OFP2 gets released. Until then...

How can you be not impressed?
A. You haven't seen more than a dozen screenshots of this new game. B. BIS went through the trouble to give you something to tide you over until OFP2, and C. all the improvements the mod community was asking for the original game have been delivered until the next engine comes out.
What does it take to impress cheapskates like you, flames blowing out your ass? A bevvy of hookers and a thousand gallons of beer?
If you don't want to spend the money, keep playing OFPR, the rest of us I can guarantee you, will be playing AA.

IMO BIS has just speraded more confusion this time, first they show us some uber-leet pics that we all wanted to see, then Placebo says "play with number 3", then we get some game called AA (name makes me puke) with some touch-ups in graphics witch don't seem impressive because it looks like theyre playing it on 800Mhz machine, I mean c'mon BIS you can do better, at this time I'm quite dissapointed if this is OFP2 and if not, and if OFP2 is actually what they have shown us at first, BIS is going with EA style policy: Get quick ca$h with AA then pump out OFP2 in the next year. AA is same as OFP XBOX - a total failiure, from my point of view I have yet to see something from BIS that isn't possible in OFP (not counting lightning). Also if theyre working on OFP2 why are they bothering with AA if we're gonna have OFP2 in 2006?
IMO we currently stand on this:
-Codies own OFP and geniuses at BIS couldn't get any creative than ArmedAss.
-We've seen two sets of pics with no idea witch game is the first ones from
-We're gonna get OFP1+ (a.k.a. ArmedAss) in Q4 2005
-Since BIS didn't make up with codies first set of pics isn't OFP2 but ArmedAss2
-IMO I'd rather that they didn't say anything than this, again it's all nice and dandy but if this is all we're gonna see I am not impressed.

Quote[/b] ]Bohemia Interactive, the creators of the ultra popular military shooter Operation Flashpoint, showed us the sequel to Operation Flashpoint at E3. If you were a fan of the original Operation Flashpoint or are looking forward to the Xbox version soon to be released, then you will be floored by the sequel in the works for the PC. Armed Assault takes place in 2010 as war breaks out in Europe and Asia and you are part of the forces deployed to take action. Much like the first Operation Flashpoint, the game revolves around realistic military combat and attempts to accurately bring you a glimpse of how a real war zone would be. The game is split up into three chapters which is the only break from the start of the war until the end that there is in the game. In each chapter you will have different and increasing responsibilities as you improve your rank, rising from a grunt in the first chapter, to having a squad to command in the second and then a Special Forces group in the third.
Much to Operation Flashpoint?s reputation, there is no shortage of vehicles to be found here. Many of the vehicles in the game are based on real world designs of vehicles that are currently in development but are fully functional in game. The sequel still has the incredibly large battle zone and can handle hundreds of soldiers on screen at once while there will be hundreds of thousands actually in the world at one time. The behavior of the other soldiers is dynamic and not scripted which means the soldiers will do what they think they should be doing according to their surroundings. Civilians in the game will act the same way and will retain a memory of what they have experienced. If you ask someone if they have seen something, they will tell you they have if they have, and will tell you how long ago it was.
Much like the first game, weather will play a large role in this game as well. When it is rainy and stormy, it will affect the water and waves to make missions on boats more difficult as opposed to a clear day on calm seas. Sunny days will blind you if you are fighting towards the sun, giving the enemy the advantage and forcing you to reevaluate your strategy. Like the first game, the sequel will have a built in mission editor which will allow you to create your own missions and customize them however you see fit, right down to the changes in the weather. Online multiplayer will allow for full scale battles to take place and bring the action to a whole new level. Although the game won?t be out until late next year, keep your eyes open for more information, it is definitely shaping up to be one of the best military shooters out there.
*Bolded Part is what I find most interesting
*Imagines self calling air strikes on civilians so that the enemy can't find him... then realizes that is mean and will just take all the civilians with him.

*Imagines self calling air strikes on civilians so that the enemy can't find him... then realizes that is mean and will just take all the civilians with him.
based on info out there, this seems more like ofp2 than AA.
maybe they got the name wrong.
but other than that it sounds lovely. seems like a persitent game world where how you do in one campaign influnces the next.
this is based on the sentence... "The sequel still has the incredibly large battle zone and can handle hundreds of soldiers on screen at once while there will be hundreds of thousands actually in the world at one time. "
and the promise fo the AI... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

Yes we need a mod to verify that this article is describing ArmedAss. If it is then I'll be happy to temporarily forget OFP2, or whatever they choose to call it. This dynamic AI stuff and the idea that AIs remember what they have witnessed is extremely impressive. I always wanted to make an anti-GTA mission where you're a police squad assigned to bust the theft ring. This now seems actually possible. Also (sorry to go off topic a bit) a mission where you are a news gathering team with a mission to expose a controversy using interviews, cameras, phone bugs, etc... This also seems possible under the new dynamic AI system.
Feedback anyone?

If only they could use anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering and higher textures details to make their screenshots...

Do you know what gameplay element this opens up? "Leave no witnesses"... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wow_o.gif excellent move from BIS! You should be able to set a condition like CiviTalks true;false so you can make them talk in different ways if they are reluctant.

I did a lot of searching on the web and it paid off.
I've found the background to Armed Assaults renewed US/Russian conflict:

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A Russian village was left baffled Thursday after its lake disappeared overnight.
NTV television showed pictures of a giant muddy hole bathed in summer sun, while fishermen from the village of Bolotnikovo looked on disconsolately.
"It is very dangerous. If a person had been in this disaster, he would have had almost no chance of survival. The trees flew downwards, under the ground," said Dmitry Zaitsev, a local Emergencies Ministry official interviewed by the channel.
Officials in Nizhegorodskaya region, on the Volga river east of Moscow, said water in the lake might have been sucked down into an underground water-course or cave system, but some villagers had more sinister explanations.
"I am thinking, well, America has finally got to us," said one old woman, as she sat on the ground outside her house.

2. 100km X 100km maps total out to 10,000 km^2, which indicates streaming terrain. This means modmakers like myself can now create extremely detailed environments.
Let's concentrate back on the island's extent.
Schoeler, I think you should rethink your thesis. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif
The showcard says: "New map covering over 100 sq. km, in extreme detail."

According to this article (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/r/?page=http://www.computerandvideogames.com/news/news_story.php(que)id=25458) from 2002, Nogova is around 100km˛ big.
So no increase? Btw, I'd be satisfied anyway. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

This is not ofp2, this is just an upgrade of ofp. If you go to ofp info you will see the screen shots of ofp2.
it says that armed assault is expected to be release later this year and ofp2 will be expected to be release late 2006
EDIT: Ive got a new subtitle for Avon - the queen of spam
I made you this heading for your web site, nothing extraordinary, just like that, for pleasure. http://yelims3.free.fr/Inclassables/Inclassable106.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

why did you alter the text on that 'picture'?
Also is that lake toss going to be the plot for ArAs or OFP:2? I hope it's for neither. It sucks. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/mad_o.gif
They've got Armed Assault and the unamed sequel mixed up.
The un-named game is in 2010 not Armed assault.
Just realised, it makes perfect sense now why BIS were asking for our current system specs ~6months ago and why when people explained that they would probably upgrade in 2006 for OFP2 and current specs were useless, they were told otherwise.
i.e. BIS were collecting system specs to base ARAM on.
I've probably missed someone elses post saying the same thing but hey.
