Don't know yet - Codies usually announces their E3 games mid to late april.

Hmm yeah, they mixed it up last year.
Marek were there last year, and Claire from Codemasters pulled off an interview with him... which still hasn't been published. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/mad_o.gif
I wonder how many times I have asked for that interview to be published over at the Codies forum... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif

Yes they were there. OFP Xbox had a stand.
No one knows yet if they'll be there or not this year, but all bets are on for them being there. At least OFP Xbox will be showed again I presume - OFP 2 on the other hand... that's the $1.000.000 question!

i think its pretty safe to say they will be there, because if OFP2 is gonna launch in spring 2006 that means that it only has one E3 left until it ships, and most companies aren't going to pass up an opportunity to promote their product like that
WargamingNor
Mar 18 2005, 09:11
Yes, most bets are on for them being there and showing us OFP 2.
But... if OFP ships in late 2006, then they can show it at E3 2006, and still have maybe 5-7 months before they release it.
So, we just have to wait a month or so to get it confirmed.

a game that has had no screens released, has probably at least 18 months development time still remaining to make it look pretty, and has more than enough responses in your topic above about why it will be more than adequate in the looks department.
I dont think that we will see anythingthing at this years E3, but with ECP, I44 and Flashpoint in the Falklands on the horizon, who cares?

The worse the graphics, the happier I am.
Up to a point I mean. But top notch graphics attract the wrong sort of player to the community, waste development resources and waste computing power while you're playing.
A game either has either film quality graphics or it doesn't. End of story. And AFAIK we are still many years away from that objective. I've never seen a game that had better graphics than the original Elite. Prettier, yes. Better, no. If you want something pretty to look at you'll do better with an art gallery (or certain, ahem, "art" magazines) than a computer screen.
Even if there is stand at E3, complete with screenies, it won't tell us much about the game. When did you ever hear of a game coming in BEFORE the annonced date? Exactly. Christmas 06 at the earliest - a good 18 months away. Time enough to change plenty.

thats what i've been thinking; on the one hand, i want ofp to become a better game, and on the other hand i don't want it to get so popular as to attract that "wrong sort of player." overall i think ofp2 should have the same kind of "cult classic" status as ofp1.

All these people have come and gone, it was the same when OFP1 was just out. The real fans will last the longest. The community we have now is evidence to that http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
I really, really, really hope OFP2 is at E3 this year.
I think that BIS has been really shooting themselves in the foot by keeping so quiet about OFP2. There are a lot of tactical shooters coming out that bear more than a passing resemblence to OFP, but they have big marketing budgets and big names behind them. I love BIS, but they and Codemasters don't exactly have the marketing muscle that EA or Ubi do, and marketing is what ultimately sells games.
They don't need to flood the world with info (which would be counter-productive, actually. Over-hyping something is as bad as under-hyping it,) but releasing even early renders of models, technical details about the engine, and a few planned gameplay refinements would start getting people in the community excited and would begin getting the word out to people unaware of OFP. Obviously they don't want to reveal everything, but silence may be hurting things more than helping them with (supposedly) only a year to release.
I think it'd be a very good idea to start the hype machine up ASAP lest OFP2 get lost in the shuffle. I'd hate to see that happen. E3 would be a great place to do this since it's pretty much guaranteed coverage.
One of the things at least some of the fans want to know is what kind of computer OFP2 is optimized for... Pentium4 1.5Ghz? Pentium4 3.8Ghz?... The only info i really need. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

BIS have always been a supporter of low end machines so expect to play OFP2 at a 1GHz+ machine easily as well. Thats just the initial game ofcourse not the ADDONS that come after http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge_o.gif .
I think theres a interview with marek or someone on ofp.info or someplace where he confirms the requirements. And they were reasonable enough.

I will agree on that.
I hadn't heard about OFP at all when I suddenly just found it in the dark corner of the gameshop. At that time I didn't have internet but I bought alot of magazines about games, but still there was no review or preview of OFP in the magazines.
None of my geeky friends have never heard about it either.
This means only that BIS and Codemasters need to give the world more info this time, so that OFP2 will not come in the same dark corner of the gameshop that OFP was in.

I see alot of other games from other publishers that's not on the list, which ought to be at E3. So this list is by no means final. We'll just have to wait for the official lineup from Codies themselves.
But if it comes to this (only showing OFP for Xbox and not OFP 2), my predictions from some time back comes true... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/mad_o.gif
39 days left to E3.
I will say this; if nothing is shown from OFP 2 or any info given on OFP 2 at either E3 or before this summer - what will the community do?
We were greatly disappointed on numerous occations during 2004 (OFP 2 first being announced, then pulled from E3 and the delay announcement in august as the worst cases). How much more can we take?
I know patience is a virtue... but so much time has passed without any info on OFP 2, that BIS and Codies should really start giving us some info on what's going on. But I guess they have their reasons for it... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rock.gif

Leave. I have already done that for a few weeks.. days.

It may sounds like I just just complain and complain but silence from producers is not good, whatever it's about game producers or other types of producers.

I don´t expect anything of OFP2 shown on E3 this year. Maybe next year, but not this year. Would be kind of stupid of BIS to show something this year when other Game studios can copy their ideas instantly. It´s still a long time to OFP2. Time that could be used by other, bigger studios to jump on the wagon and use BIS ideas for their own products.
BUT I have to agree that the complete silence about OFP2 doesn´t serve the community right. A little hint here and there, a screenshot here and there certainly would not hurt...
Even if it´s supersecret, a screenshot of work in progress would
be a highlight for the community that still upholds the OFP spirit.
Placebo, you are our link to BIS in this case. And I guess you can understand our grasp for info on OFP2. Can you talk to Marek about that ?
It really would be something BIS and OFP2 could benefit from.
When I read gaming mags I see work in progress pics for almost any game that will come someday, wich has a good promotional effect. OFP 1 was promoted badly prior and after it´s release. Will that be the same with OFP 2 ?
As we can see with other programs in the making the level of interest raises dimensionally by a few pics only.
I know BIS has the golden rule of not-releasing anything. But if that´s the best way to keep interest in the product alive or even raise attention within people who know nothing about OFP 2 at all is questionable.
Just my 2 cents.

I know why they won't give us any info. It's just that they want EVERYBODY to forget about the game, then when it's all over (you know, in 2023), then big news come: "OPERATION FLASHPOINT REBIRTH!"
Apparently rebirths are more popular than SEQUELS
No need to thank me

I´m pretty sure the amount of useable vehicles in wargames has increased since OFP1. It´s about ideas like wind affecting bullets (not confirmed, just a shot into the blue from me) and all that funny details that can be copied and will be copied in the longterm as other things from different games/sims showed.
Now if a team can get hands on a engine that allows to display that big areas as ofp1 engine did and has a team in the back wich is bigger and more powerful than BIS team wich isn´t the biggest one on the planet there could be the chance that another team releases something comparable to ofp2 before ofp2 comes out.
Get the idea ?
Software business these days is a lot about fast reaction to gamers demands and big companies are really good in developing games within short time. The quality most of the time sucks as we all know from stupid games, released lately.
Thankfully BIS seems to stay on track when it comes to quality and gamers needs.

I don't think there's a lack of ideas in any game company and the ideas of OFP2 probably wouldn't fit into an avarage tunnel fps anyway. I mean anyone could come up with 100 ideas of new/improved features for OFP2. It's not like the other companies don't have any imagination, it's just what they/their fans want from their games and have the resources and time to produce.
And of course all of the really revolutionary ideas should be kept secret until closer to release.

Codemasters is the publisher, so if anything is shown on E3, they'll be the ones to do it. BIS never had a stand on an E3 event as far as I know, simply because they're not publishers and therefor don't belong there.
OFP2? Futureware!
But I'll wait... Because all of us knows what it feels like to play Ofp... Better than any other todays shooter...
So take your time CM and BIS but show us some info, plz! ;)

Any developer that has a publishing contract with a publisher, will have to show them at the publishers stand (in most cases anyway).
I would say it is 99% certain that BIS will be at the Codies stand at E3 this year. However if they will have anything from OFP 2 is far more uncertain... expect to see OFP Xbox though.
I'm still waiting for the interview Claire from Codemasters had with Marek at last years E3... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/mad_o.gif
Supposedly he said some things about OFP 2... but the interview has never been published. First it went to various community liason persons at Codies - none of them managed to publish it. Last I heard, it were Placebo that had the tape with the interview and were going to get it published... almost a year now! What's up with not releasing this? And if it's never meant to be published; for gods sake just tell us!
theres still a litle hope... at least till the oficial list comes out

Timing, peoplez, timing. We're still in the fallout cycle of Doom 3 and Halflife 2, look for the coat-rider licenses to have a presence. Secondly, Sony-M$-Nintendo is promising a major slugfest at E3, and I suppose that even the great satan EA is caging their bets on the outcome.
OFP Xbox could be a potential figure, IF it's targeting Xbox2 and would be a 'partner' with M$'s push. I don't see the corporate machine headed that way, regardless of all their hubris, M$ never really helps their 'partners' as much as they help M$. Figure CM would get buried even as a Xbox2 launch remora.
Also we're looking at first playable demos of Quake4 at Quakecon. That will make some waves. If OFP Xbox and OFP2 are looking at 2006 releases, it makes more sense product, promotion, and marketing to do E3 next year, rather than this year.
There isn't even Codemaster at all on this list ^^
A big company like Codemaster, missing out on E3 would be bad for buisness.
Another, In Amercia OFP didnt sell that well so maybe codies is planing on showing it off at a big Euro convention http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rock.gif

According to one of the recent interviews with placebo, OFP for Xbox2/360 is not being worked on at all. They had enough with OFP Xbox and OFP 2.
Of course, I don't trust anyone or anything... so they might be working on or considering something for the new Xbox.
The new Xbox will be revealed at MTV, and not E3 BTW.

millions will be happy if you develop ONLY OFP2 for PC

Just a little sidenote since we're talking about consoles...
Look what happened to Ghost Recon 2. First it were announced for all formats. Then they released the (very) different versions for consoles. And now, a couple of days ago, UBI announced that they had cancelled GR2 for PC... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/mad_o.gif
The reason; they have announced GR 3 for all formats at the end of this year, and had to put all resources into the PC version of GR3. They also felt GR2 wouldn't make a good PC game...
So, the morons at UBI have forgotten all about who made the GR series... that's right; the PC gamer crowd... not the console crowd. As I said somewhere before; UBI have killed off the entire Rainbow Six/Ghost Recon series for PC gamers http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/mad_o.gif
I'm betting R6: Lockdown will be just a dumbed-down console port for the PC... and probably GR 3 will be just the same.
So, to get a little on-topic again; I'm glad BIS are going the other way around. Porting PC versions to consoles that is.
But if it's possible, why not port OFP 2 to the Xbox 360 later on?
But if it's possible, why not port OFP 2 to the Xbox 360 later on?
Noo! Then we will have the same problem as now with the future release of OFP3. ;P

Absolutely true...
But we can understand, that they want revenues from console market too... So they just probably port it later. For us the key is "later". Later than they release OFP2 for PC. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Operation Flashpoint will not be Shown on the E3
for the germans go here

Computer Games Magazine has learned that Codemasters will not have an exhibit of upcoming games at this May's Electronic Entertainment Expo, nor will they be showing upcoming games to the media at the show.
According to what a Codemasters PR spokesperson told Computer Games Magazine, the publisher will attend E3 but only in a limited capacity with a room at the Los Angeles Convention Center to conduct business. The room will not be showcasing any upcoming games to the media or press at the expo. Codemasters recently received a large investment from the venture capital group Benchmark Capital Europe, with the firm acquiring 40 percent of the publisher.

Operation Flashpoint 2 is not released until late next year, so is more likely to be shown at next year's E3. The Xbox version of Operation Flashpoint has been delayed and so we do not yet have a firm release date for this at the current time.

If it will be on next E3 it means OFP2 will be released late 2006 or early 2007?! gaaah!
ok... facts
*Rumors say that Codemasters will not be present at E3
*Bis has a place at E3
*Codemasters said that OPF2 will realesed at the end of next year.
questions:
1-WTF is a big publisher like Codemasters is doing? E3 is the most important event for any Game developer or publisher.
2-BIS alone at E3? Hum... Only to show OPF: CWC again??? And again?
3-If OPF2 will relesed at the end of 2006, there must be some work already done... so WHY dont we even see a "microscopic" part of it?
All the facts are unoficial, so as always, we have to wait.
3-If OPF2 will relesed at the end of 2006, there must be some work already done... so WHY dont we even see a "microscopic" part of it?
That is around 1,5 years from now. As said before, they will be upgrading the current engine, saving time by not having to build an entirely new engine. I'd be rather suprised if they have worked for more than 6 months on OFP2 in total. 2 years is more then enough time to update the engine, make weapons, soldiermodels, vehicles/aircraft, islands and a campaign or 2. Of course depending on the amount of people put on the project.
... i think, they are waithing for a BF2 relese, cose as far as i see it`s bigest commpetiton for OpF2, and becouse it`s all about money.
i do not think that BIS will spend ~2 years making a game for nothing and sell few hundried copies, BIS crew have lifes to, i mean, after all it`s the money that make the world go around http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Personally, I think that BIS should at least release SOME details of the current state of OFP2. They are obviously going to appear at E3 because they are listed as an exhibitor on the official E3 site.
I run the TNT League and myself and the clans in the league are now starting to doubt whether OFP2 will ever come out. First of all we hear late last year and then early 2006. The same goes for the XBox version of OFP. When is it coming out? It was supposed to be released last Winter and here we are 6 months down the line and still no news?
Screenshots for the XBox version go right back to 2002, so why is it taking so long to finally release a game when there were in-game screenshots taken 3 years ago?
I was in Email contact with Marek Spanel around this time last year and he told me that October 2004 was a realistic date for the release of the XBox version, at which point they will be working on the server code for OFP2 - so why the prolonged wait?
We are a patient community BIS, but the way you have dealt with information for OFP2 has left a lot of us doubting that your actually going to deliver anything. Your OFP2 website hasnt been updated for over a year either.
No wonder BIS are worried about Battlefield 2 - to get an audience interested you have to show them some kind of teaser to get them excited - no news=no interest.

That's quite a bit of space then that they reserved just to do 'business'. Is this the extent of CM's advertising and distribution in the US then?
If they're in charge of everything, then how come Bohemia Interactive a.s. - whoever they are - got sent off to their own booth an aisle or two over and are not booth-sharing or subletting?
There are quite a number of other booths in Kentia Hall from countires and such looking to encourage investment and development. Also others like Ageia who target developers, not customers are there, they have the whole back corner, not far from the CM and BI a.s. booths.

90 pics that are pretty... boring standard bang bang, jump jump, restricted FPS gaming! IMO. I'm hoping to be blown away by OFP2 when it finally arrives (which I have full confidence of it doing), that's why I won't be buying BF2. It'll only sit on my shelf gathering dust like the previous ones did before I managed to get rid of them!

last OT BF2 comment... I'm no BF modder, I don't even have (or ever have had) the game or the demo. From the digging I've done so far, and maybe if there are any experienced BF modders/mappers they could confirm this, but there appears to be no scripting structure like we know and love in OFP. You can get at the object properties which are essentially like the OFP configs.cpp, but you're limited in adding functionality unless you go for a system mod. In OFP you can drop in addons and run with them, unless they're all rolled into a mod for bandwidth saturation.
Also found some explanations regarding the maps, and it's ugly all around. It uses several layers of heightmaps to achieve the high detail terrain, but at the cost of limited to claustrophobic areas. I suppose though that the seperate environment maps would facilitate easier conversion to alternate seasons/ruined themes. But the last layer is a static AI pathing alpha channel overlay. For all the complaints we have about the OFP AI in MOUT, at least it's dynamic.
So far I've seen no indication that BF2 will have a scripting system. The indications are also that they will not have truely dynamic terrain. (Z)oldner claimed to be headed in that direction, but something went totally wrong over there. Something in the Jowood koolaid I guess. From that alone I guess it is safe to say officially that BF2 sux0rs. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge_o.gif

Well chapereeno's, this is my first post, but here is some info for you all...
Currently the E3 floor plan stands as this...
http://e3expo.com/assets/pdf/floorplans/E3expo05_Kentia_Hall.pdf
Look for the room 6941. It is currently empty, but the current e3 list says that they have it but with the a.s. after it. Thus i can only assume that they are still to be confirmed.

Booth 6941 is shown as registered to Bohemia Interactive a.s. I thought BIS was a "s.r.o.", and BIA was a "p/l", so what's this?

I would'nt be suprised if Placebo is the man who set up the appearance of BIS at E3, he is afterall the only guy who knows how insane we are going for OFP2...
I think it's important to point out, that on the e3expo website http://www.e3expo.com/exhibitors/exhibitor_list.asp Bohemia Interactive in the list does not have the http://www.e3expo.com/assets/images/exhibitors/firstlooks.gif Icon. Which means, we might not see any screenshots/videos of OFP2, yet. Keyword: Might.
We might just get more info on the features, story, release date, maybey some more info on the XBox release, but other than that I can't find any evidence we will get any eye candy. You could ask Placebo about it WargamingNor , maybey get a mini interview about more specific plans BIS has at the appearance of the expo.

I dont think that Bohemia Interactive is planning to show screenshots nor videos of Operation Flashpoint 2. We may get that kind of media with Operation Flashpoint X-Box. Yet im disappointed with the delay of OFP for X-Box. Not because I want to play it, but because the new generation consoles are at the door. I find it weird to launch a game for x-box at the end of this year, with X-Box 360 being presented this summer. Sincerely, I dont believe the game will sell much, thanks to codemasters for its excellent marketing campaign, it wouldnt surprise me. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif I just hope BIS did this step back on OFP-E due to software reasons and not marketing.
Now back to OFP2. A trailer at most, showing some kind of presentation of OFP2. That would be the most we could get. But hows that, when only 2 BIS team members go to E3. I think its obvious for us not get our expectations too high.
Either way, regarding OFP2 or OFP-E, or any other product, I believe BIS knows what they are doing. Im a fan of OFP and will remain loyal to BIS up to the last second.
Godspeed. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Obviously I'm not an exhibitor and I haven't seen all the nitty-gritty details, but...
Quote[/b] ]
E3 Web Site : Every E3 exhibitor gets a FREE reciprocal link on the E3 site. Traffic on the E3expo.com site is climbing and now averages 6.6 million hits per month. That means a link from the E3 site can bring a lot of traffic to your home page. You can also create a hyperlink to highlight the products you’ll display at E3 2005.
First Looks Program : This FREE program features companies with new products, and highlights them via advance PR, onsite signage, the Show Daily and the Show Guide.
Umm... linkage?
Now for the conspiricy theories...
Quote[/b] ]
I should also add that due to E3 preparations, this week's Flashnews will be tomorrow not today, hopefully normal service will resume until the actual E3 week http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
Just curious, how long does it really take to make Flashnews? It's not an 8-hour project each week is it? So what's the absolutely pressing business that takes up the entire day and is E3 related? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif I'll let the rest of you nitpick that one, I have a couple other conspiricies calling me atm.

Quote[/b] ]Operation Flashpoint 2 E3 bound
Codemasters may not be showing off at E3, but developer Bohemia Interactive says it will demo Operation Flashpoint 2 anyway.
According to a post in the Bohemia Interactive Studios forums, Operation Flashpoint 2, the tactical first-person shooter from the Prague-based developer, will be making an appearance at this year's E3 Expo in Los Angeles.
Bohemia's PR manager, Paul Statham, said in the forums that "Marek Spanel and myself will be in attendance at [E3], where we intend to announce our release plans for 2005 and beyond. We will also reveal further details about the games we're currently working on."
Operation Flashpoint 2 will be published by Codemasters, the British company behind Second Sight. Codemasters has announced that it will not be taking a booth at E3 in May. Thus, Bohemia will be showing off Operation Flashpoint 2, set for release in 2006, on its own.
Bohemia Interactive Studios is based in Prague, Czech Republic, and is the developer of the original Operation Flashpoint for the PC and its numerous expansion packs. That game was set in 1985 and portrayed a fictitious skirmish between American and Soviet troops. The company says that this new Flashpoint game will also focus on modern combat.

Exactly.. They are just assuming that OFP2 will be shown. All BIS has said is that they reveil some details of the games they will be releasing in the coming years. It might be 99% xbox OFP videos and just some basic info of what OFP2 actually will be about.
So I personally believe that any ingame screenshots are way too much to hope for as BIS haven't even told us anything about the story or even which millennium it will take place.

one thing keep jumping up in my mind,
for what the last thing i heard about OFP2,
is that dev team have been heavily rewriting the engine,
and that the fact they currently putting most of its force on "Box with a X mark on it" version, then there is almost not thing out. IMO there is atless 2 answer, one is that they didnt came out much thing yet, and the other is that they have come out with something which would scare the hell out of us, in a good way or not..........

Quote[/b] ]Operation Flashpoint 202.05.2005, 09:39 Lebenszeichen Spielefans brauchen manchmal gutes Sitzfleisch.

Ok, not years then.
So most of us are around the 30 year bracket. Interesting. in this case maybe flashpoint2 would benefit from a more mature theme. I know a war theme is pretty mature, but have you played full spectrum warrior? The guys in this drop in the occasional swear word. Not necessary to the game play but does add authenticity (i think i'd say some naughty word if some was shooting at me, don't you?).

2. in my opinion OFP was a much bestseller - so they see many $ in it - so OFP2 is a must...
the question is will it satisfy us, the "old guard" with the playability it will bring...

When I talk about OFP I say OPF, but when I write...
OFP is the real *short-term
*(not sure if thats the right word)
abbreviation is what you mean i guess.
put OPF (oh so wrong) into google and see the results
then put in OFP (yay) and compare :P
