View Full Version : BIS @ E3: Confirmed!
I think we need the official word of placebo http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge_o.gif
What will they show?
Just let us wait and see. Only 2 weeks left to E3 right? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Ha! sorry i started the whole 'what do you call it' question. Looks like that could be a thread all of it's own http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif
I guess if they don't show ofp2, opf2 or even flashpoint2(:;):) it'll mean it doesn't exist, right? I mean no one has seen any screen shots of it, or have they? No one knows if it's set in Nam or not, or do they? No one knows if you play American, British or a generic army or anything about the game. What proof does any one have that the game even exits?

Bohemia Interactive Studio - 49,300 results
BIS - 75,200,000 results
Bohemia Interactive Studio should really have a place at google where they use BIS.
EDIT: BIStudio however works, but I wouldn't use it.

And on the OPF vs OFP controversy.
Before and when I first came to these forums (many moons ago) I already was calling it OPF but on these forums it was more called OFP and now I am more used to that and it does make more sense because "F"lash"P"oint is the word people forget rather than the Operation.

I want news revealing more of the new game engine, and net code and what are BIS doing to utilize dual core cpu on the server side. I want maps where a lot of ppl can share the greatness of OFP without lags and desync etc.

My problem is you pc people thinking the xbox version is a waste of time and they should forget about it.
If you feel that way theres no need to keep slagging off the xbox version.
The xbox version may not be able to do addons and stuff that the pc version can do but its still Operation Flashpoint.

Well, we people own a PC, and not a x-box, so of course we want games for the first rather than the latter. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
Nah I'm glad that BIS probably will get a lot of money to spend on the production of OFP2 by selling the x-box OFP, which will be shown at the E3, which is the actual topic and on which we should get back to.
So, in possibly 6 days, we will know if our addons will work and modding capabilities be improved upon? That will be nice to know. Imagine no more 65m x 65m geolod limitation, better T&L, making poly's less on an issue.

In order to push the pixels for it you need a card qualified to run Digital Dual Link DVI, where both your DVI ports on the same card power the same monitor. The downside of this though is that I don't think that you can do a spanned monitor across two cards, so if you wanted to run multi-monitor OFP2 you'd have to run it windowed. Dual 30's though is right at the edge of my periphial vison, now if only I had the money... I could get 2x 1024x768 projectors + video cards for the price of one 30" though.

There's two kinds of booths in the back of Kentia Hall, open and walled. No confirmation from BIS which they have so far as I've seen, but a walled one would definately be more suitable for use as a "meeting room". Be interesting to see which way it spins though, especially with Xbox 360.

Is there anybody attending that can make a report to ofpinfo or OFPEC? Breaking news from E3 would be great (much like Battlefield2 fansites have planned). On the other hand, I wonder if the latest news will be on this forum from the mouth of BIS itself. Hmmm. That'd be nice.
I know my brother will be in attendance, he's not exactly an OFP fan but he knows I sure am. I told him to pay you guys a visit, with camera in hand http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Meh, i would steal a carbine and a flashbang from the AA dudes and break into the room just like that, and then i would demo OPF2 myself with Placebo and Maruk on their knees begging for mercy, i think i would problably spare them...
But, has it is i hope we will see OFP E3 footage once the show is over, that would be nice, yeah http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif .

Quote[/b] ]Operation Flashpoint 2 E3 bound
Codemasters may not be showing off at E3, but developer Bohemia Interactive says it will demo Operation Flashpoint 2 anyway.
According to a post in the Bohemia Interactive Studios forums, Operation Flashpoint 2, the tactical first-person shooter from the Prague-based developer, will be making an appearance at this year's E3 Expo in Los Angeles.
Bohemia's PR manager, Paul Statham, said in the forums that "Marek Spanel and myself will be in attendance at [E3], where we intend to announce our release plans for 2005 and beyond. We will also reveal further details about the games we're currently working on."
Operation Flashpoint 2 will be published by Codemasters, the British company behind Second Sight. Codemasters has announced that it will not be taking a booth at E3 in May. Thus, Bohemia will be showing off Operation Flashpoint 2, set for release in 2006, on its own.
Bohemia Interactive Studios is based in Prague, Czech Republic, and is the developer of the original Operation Flashpoint for the PC and its numerous expansion packs. That game was set in 1985 and portrayed a fictitious skirmish between American and Soviet troops. The company says that this new Flashpoint game will also focus on modern combat.

Well, if anyone besides me watched the videos that were on vbsresources.com (the links don't work now), then you'll know that VBS1 has/will have dynamically destructable buildings... Unfortunately it doesn't show a bombing or artillery strike on the buildings, only some satchels and an Abrams driving through/shooting at the buildings, but it still looked good. And at the end of the convoy module video is a simple sort of buggy with a M2 on the top and a M249 in the shotgun seat, both firing seperately. And since OFP2 is based off VBS1...

Don't mind me, I'm just stirring the pot, in the same way that the removal of the codemasters logo from the flashpoint2.com website has done so.
I remember reading discussions, quite literally years ago, for which the same thing happened to the previous publisher on the old official OFP website.......The planned publisher, (whose name I can't recall off the top of my head) had its logo removed, and the OFP site was revamped once a new one had been found.
One can still compare BIS of today to the BIS of yesteryear, because the people at the helm are still one and the same. If for whatever reason, they find Codemasters to be an innappropriate publisher......(IE, too restrictive, or intrusive, or unwilling for whatever reason). They may choose, for whatever reason, not to publish their product through Codemasters, and go find someone else who is either, willing to meet BIS's demands, less intrusive e.t.c.
I've seen other games have the carpet pulled from under their feet due to publisher problems, and the strong products, managed to find (or pull) another publisher in reasonable time.
Remembering, Codemasters is a large corporation, it may take time for the publishing giant to turn full circle, and update it's site, or, there could still be negotiations going on in the background for publishing rights..... The removal of the codemasters logo may merely be a bluff, for all we know.......or a signal, designed to gain attention.......who knows! I'm just calling it as I see it! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

Pheew.. good that the Xbox version is called AA and not OFP2 http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif
Or AA is an OFP expansion, which would also explain why BIS didn't want to do any patches including some small requests done by the community. They'd lower the customers for a possible expansion which includes stuff like some new scripting commands, fixed free-view from the cockpit etc.
But this is only a supposition

See this? That means no Red Hammer, which was made by Codemasters. Resistance and CWC were made by BIS.
It would be cool if it would be like this:
OFP2 - an all-new game for PC.
OFP: Xbox - original OFP for Xbox.
Armed Assault - expansion pack for the original Flashpoint.
This would be fair as well, because as we've seen now, OFP: Xbox has some new good-looking models + VBS1 heads & hands.
The PC owners should get the same stuff as console owners http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

OK this makes it fairly simple
Armed Assault = OFP XBox
CA / Combined Arms = commercial version of VBS1 (a repack to amass money for the development & final release of ...)
Operation Flashpoint 2 = Operation Flashpoint 2

Well, if anyone besides me watched the videos that were on vbsresources.com (the links don't work now), then you'll know that VBS1 has/will have dynamically destructable buildings... Unfortunately it doesn't show a bombing or artillery strike on the buildings, only some satchels and an Abrams driving through/shooting at the buildings, but it still looked good. And at the end of the convoy module video is a simple sort of buggy with a M2 on the top and a M249 in the shotgun seat, both firing seperately. And since OFP2 is based off VBS1...
I did, it all looked fake, you couldnt even see the buildings colapse due to a large cloud of dust so i cant say it looked good http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif , my bet is after OPF2 comes VBS1 will be updated to the new engine, get your visa ready for another expensive module(s) purchase i guess.
Right, first day and its about OPF for the xbox, looks ok but not the news i was expecting, my bet on the other games is problably OPF2 for PC and for xbox 360 has it wouldnt make much sense to release a expantion for the old flashpoint at this time, i must say they have made quite an achievement making flashpoint run on a old console, but i really want to see/hear more about our sequel http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

E3 2005: Lights Out!
Power is out. E3 is over. Everyone can go home!
by IGN Staff
May 18, 2005 - The show floor is merely one hour from opening, and no one can see it. The lights are out at the LA Convention Center, meaning that the thousands of expectant industry professionals and analysts are left waiting until power is restored.
Although patches of power exist in the building (the IGN room, where this is being written still has juice), the grid is down on West Hall and the media lounge. Sources state that full recovery could take up to six horus. A similar thing happened in 2000, when the convention center lost all Internet access. We'll shed some more light (ahem) on this story as it develops.

Boy, what a rough start!
Man am I glad those first 5 screenies were from Xbox, which explains for the most part the out of focus and plastic look. (for the most part.)
Wonder if we will get some pics of the real OFP2. Maybe too soon.

I like this part..
Quote[/b] ]...The sequel still has the incredibly large battle zone and can handle hundreds of soldiers on screen at once while there will be hundreds of thousands actually in the world at one time. The behavior of the other soldiers is dynamic and not scripted which means the soldiers will do what they think they should be doing according to their surroundings. Civilians in the game will act the same way and will retain a memory of what they have experienced. If you ask someone if they have seen something, they will tell you they have if they have, and will tell you how long ago it was...
But i think these dudes mixed up Armed Assault with OPF2 or something, check this..
Quote[/b] ]Although the game won’t be out until late next year, keep your eyes open for more information, it is definitely shaping up to be one of the best military shooters out there.

Yeah, shows nice models but has expected still looks quite the same, the spec op guys look like they came from the old west though and the weapons other than the M16A2 werent updated this far in development.
Also a curiosity to see a Land rover and a unimog truck there, possible resistance vehicals?
Now the Shark dudes really screwed up, its unforgiving for them to spread false information like that http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/mad_o.gif .
Quote[/b] ]The more exciting is the game which is yet to be named. (i.e OFP2) In their own words Bohemia Interactive is working on a “Next generation PC-game”. It is reminiscent of Operation Flashpoint, but will be considerably more dynamic. In all three chapters both friendly and enemy AI-units are fighting 24/7. Outside the battlefield action the game generates missions,
Taken from OFPECs new report on it (translated from another site i think).
Dynamic! What can i say! I love you all! Im sure you all remember i occasionally go on about DID total air war and how thats the best dynamic engine ever (yet released), well this is an all out war modern version of that! In TAW, the conflict goes on and you take missions as they come, everything effects everything else. I really really hope that is going to be like OFP2 will be. And from the sounds of it, its looking promising! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

The game with no name
Quote[/b] ]The last game pulled from the hat by the Bohemia-Boys had not been given a name yet. This is another tactical shooter, like all other things from the company, and despite it still being in the early stages of development things are looking very promising.
Again focus is on the details. Among other things Bohemia has scanned leaves with a special 3D-scanner to be able to create perfect foliage - once the game is released we will see forests of beautiful tress. The areas you can navigate are huge, several hundred square miles, and the weapons will be modelled from several parts which are fully interchangeable if you are into mods. Gun parts will be in motion when shooting as well. Individual characters will be quite advanced wit,h for instance, variable hand positions on weapons. This allows for animated loading, cleaning and generally far more dynamic characters than Operation Flashpoint.
his time around you are a Special-Ops soldier from the US army. The game has some RPG-elements - not character development but more in the way you navigate throughout the game. You have a reputation-stat meaning that your actions will have consequences as the game progresses. There is no missionstructure in the game but the action is divided into chapters giving you assignments like: "Free this country" and then leaving you to solve the task pretty much as you like.
The world is very large and very alive. A chopper passing overhead will have a destination and will have flown from point A over point B to point C to fulfill its mission. From there it will continue on whatever assignment the AI decides upon. Everything has a purpose and a function. Should you encounter a soldier you will be able to ask him whether he has seen the opposition and if he has he will be able to tell you. There is innumerable dialogue options and the great liberties of the game makes for quite an interesting project.
Once more the game includes a plethora of vehicles such as helicopters, jeeps and tanks. We only had a closer look at the tank, but this certainly was an impressive piece of machinery. It holds a crew of three - a driver, a gunner and a commander. The latter has acces to a smaller turret which rotates faster than the gunturret. This makes for a better view of things as well as easier targeting and command-issuing.
Another satisfying detail of this metal monstrosity is the ability to level buildings. We all know the situation with the lousy camper in the house. Normally you would have to shoot through the window to get him, but not in this game. Simply aim at the corner of the building and watch it collapse as the massive shell disintegrates the wall.
nd this is all well and good, but what about Operation Flashpoint 2? We asked and got no real reply. In fact there is no OF2. The name Operation Flashpoint is owned by Codemasters which means that Bohemia cannot use it for its games. Thus the name Armed Assault for a game which in itself simply is a souped up version of Operation Flashpoint.
But what is true for Armed Assault is also true for Operation Flaspoint 2... Which may mean that the game will never be released. Bohemia has no deal with Codemasters for a sequel and in fact the have no publisher for the game i have just described to you. You see, the latter part of this article has been about Operation Flashpoint 2 eventhough it does not appear to be released as such. But fear not. Bohemia's seven year old vision will survive... provided it find a publisher for its game.
http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif
Now it means OFP2 is much bigger then measly little islands this time we'll take on full countrys and act in a full war with things happening around us which we can/cant control we will have to adapt unlike the linear campaigns right now this will seriously OWN :!:

"The year is 2010 and the world has changed. Heightened tensions around the globe have created a need for military operations to ensure ongoing stability. As part of an international coalition contingent, your team is deployed to locations in Europe and Asia."
Oh no! Another "near future" story with ultra-über American laser/IR/ELOP weapons against some dirty OPFOR guys! No huge tank-battles, no tough air-campaigns "sob" "sob" (cries). So we're gonna have to make some real weapon system addons from the '60s and '70s and '80s... But it's always the hope...

I bet whoever those europeans are they will give us hell before going down http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif .
It aint easy fighting against rebels these days either , but yeah i miss those all out soviet vs Nato 85 era battles of OFP. But going ahead is the only way to go for BIS they just couldnt repeat the same storyline again. I think we can create our own storylines later via mods http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

And yeah, this "Free this country" thing reminds me the "Dynamic Afghanistan" mission which is a very innovative and forward-pointing (??? how do you say that in English) idea. And yeah, modding is as much fun as playing so I hardly can wait... BIS rulez like hell!

Maybe we get to play the two sides of this "coalition", like the russians and the yanks, and for MP balance we might get battles betwean these two, that would be sweet http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .
