There is a new horse edit of the pchorse we did,

http://img167.echo.cx/my.php?image=earlytest014ng.jpg

CWmod could use that, but animating it and blah blah takes time if possible even. (plus the rider cargo anim, thats something cwmod could do to help btw trig to save time)

As for more weapons etc, i think there are enough personally its more about improving the quality already, but then were sharing the new wepaons anyway, and there are some new weapons we've made that cwmod will get, including

a henry rifle, a johnston 1836 pistol and a few others

btw the gatling cannon looks cool too http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

I think that an addition to realism would be to have the same models of the muskets but instead have different sounds
so say have 5 wepaons of the same models but with different sounds so it sounds a little more varied in battle
This is because I find the musket noise gets a little dull after a while :P

Triglav
Jul 23 2005, 00:46
Sound is attributed to the ammo currently.

The 3 muskets that use the .58 minie bullet have the same sound.
The flintlock I'm making now will have a different sound for .69 bullet.
Sharps, Spencer and Whitworth also have different sounds.

Triglav
Jul 23 2005, 01:54
Here's the US 1816 Flintlock Musket.
Due to the lack of better rifles some Union and Confederate regiments were armed with this musket, until more modern weapons became available.

http://www.petrov-petrov.si/~triglav/CW/US1816Flintlock.jpg

(I also think Napoleonics should use this gun rather than the Springfield)

tsalagikola
Jul 23 2005, 02:55
That looks great [The flintlock I'm making now will have a different sound for .69 bullet.] for the shot or will they have a louder scream when I shoot a yankee with it. LOL I had to say that.

Jul 23 2005, 21:39
Will the smoothbore musket also have a higher rate of fire than the rifles?

Also, something that might or might not be good to implement is the so called "Buck 'n ball" round. I've read on several occasions where regiments unfortunate enough to be armed with these outdated weapons would cut a .69 caliber round into pieces and place them, along with the standard .69 ball, in the paper cartridge. At close range, you have a very big, very deadly shotgun. Perhaps troops armed with the musket could have 2 choices for ammo, much like the standard BIS shotgun has 2 choices?

Just a suggestion. I'm enjoying the mod and look forward to new releases!

Triglav
Jul 24 2005, 10:09
Thanks for your suggestion MB.
Buck'n'ball has been considered, just a matter of implementation, whether it will get done (partially due to the muzzle smoke problem, as can be encountered with the civillian shotgun, which creates a cloud for each buckshot ball that flies out of the gun).

Higher rate of fire...well...our muskets already don't have the historic 20 seconds reload time, but 12-15 (and 15 was the speed of reload for a very drilled smoothbore operator...).

Here's a pic of the new Mississippi .54 calibre rifle:

Good job with the mod! It really rocks http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rofl.gif
I wonder if anyone has played North vs. South (not that old amiga version, heh). There are like dozens of pages of information conserning US civil war in that game. Very intresting stuff if one is intrested in civil war. A lot of information about unit tactics for example.

Huge fan of this mod, I think it brings a whole new era to ofp.

I personally think more units would be the best option, speaking of which, maybe the Irish brigade (who used nothing but the m1816 .69 caliber musket)? Specificly the 69th New York State Milita which was a pre-war unit. I can provide tons of information and even pictures of reenactors if needed.

Yes, the Irish Brigade would be a great addition. Even if you only made an Irish Brigade flag bearer with their green flag it would be cool.

In answer to the other question, I have played that North vs South game - I didnt care for it, the win conditions and controls were very odd. If you're looking for a realistic and fun civil war strategy game, check out Sierra's Robert E. Lee Civil War Generals II. Hex based game that is too old to find in stores these days, but it is very very accurate in terms of maps, units, weapons, and even casualty rates. Of all the computer games I've ever owned, CWG II is the only one that has constantly been carried over when I get a new computer. It never gets old.

Anyway heres some progress on 'bitter island' er featuring a hangin - for some atmosphere, this island is a grim er place.

http://img283.imageshack.us/my.php?image=untitled26jz1.jpg

All the towns have signs, each town is intended to have some custom buildings too, basically so that each place has character, sign posts will add to this.

some er bushwackers got caught -
http://img283.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bitter8ma.jpg

and heres a good example of the simple but attractive buildings zalmoxis is doing, and we'll be going back to add more to the old buildings thus far too

Yup Gavin.
You have to make the whole hanging animation, and shootable ropes.
http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/pistols.gif
No sense in having gallows that don't work ingame.
Then you can make missions where you have to catch the outlaw, bring him to town and hang him. Nasty.

Gatling gun
Flintlock musket
Mississippi rifle
New cannons
A bunch of new men
a working horse

It is indeed a famous unit.
Course then someone ought also have to make a Fredericksburg map...

A fredricksburg map so the Unionists can Sit around a few days then start charging up a hill and getting mown down y the brigade....nearly as bad as a Petersburg Crater Fiasco....
Another Burnside Blunder...now thats a campaign burnsides blunders..(though to credit him he was the victim of a large Smear Campaign)

Love the news about the Towable Artillery and ne horse...some Cavalry raids as a rebs stealing union guns out from under them,
would be cool...

Nice work so far and keep the cool stuff coming

Forgive me if this dead horse has been beaten already, but will the new cannons also include new shot? While I like seeing the cannons in missions, I have found them to be mostly useless unless you score a direct hit against an opponent. Having canister or explosive shells would allow the cannons to be more useful for the type of fighting the game allows.

In any case, good luck with everything, this is a great mod!

Hello fellow soldiers!

I was wondering if anyone has thought about prolonging the reload-animation of the muskets, so that the loading sequence is as long as it takes to load the weapon and that the soldiers are ready to shoot as soon as they are able to take aim again...

Yours,

Longstreet

Aug 1 2005, 15:52
Not possible. The maximum time of reload anim is something like 16 secs and the voices continue as a compromise.

But hey, we have the revolver that takes ages to reload. Maybe the same trick could be done to the rifles?

Triglav
Aug 1 2005, 15:59
It was a compromise.
Default OFP reload takes 3 secs.
Already that was at least doubled for the reload anim. If stretched more, the reload anim will look slow-motion.
The sound, as said, is the compromise...think of it, that once the gun is put to aim position, the shooter is inserting the percussion cap and cocking the hammer, then taking aim...

...or something. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif

Sepe
Aug 1 2005, 17:35
Don't worry. In OFP2 we'll propably be able to see the man put the bullet and gunpowder in, then cock the hammer and pull the trigger... Maybe.

But I'm very satisfied with the current anims anyway, about 1000% better than the ol' good BIS anims I used to play the original Napoleonic Mod with...

It's a CW mod for Battlefield 1942.

Here you can see a CW mod for Medal Of Honor:
http://www.madminutegames.com/MadMinuteBB/viewtopic.php?t=40

And a rather beautiful looking CW mod is being developed for Unreal Tournament 2004 engine...
http://www.eog-mod.com/

Thus as you see several FP shooter games have caught the attention of Civil War enthusiasts, and mods are coming up.
IMHO OFP still offers best editor and tactical situation environment though...

I also play the strategy game Bull Run rather a lot:

That's an engine issue me thinks. That's why you can't, even in first person, see the magazine token off in OFP. But you can't see much of the reloading of CWMOD anyways, so who actually cares if there's no useless fancy-pancy-eye-candy?

Wow... just wow... I just got Bull Run, and have been playing for two hours to end with a huge, orgasmic smile sported all over my face. Anyone with a sense for hardcore realism and battles three times larger than just about any Total War game, should get penetrated anally by a loaded Napoleon Cannon, crew and all, for not owning this game allready!

Couldn't seem to find it at a store, but their homepage has plenty in stock for ordering.

Anyway, my point is: I've just recently reformatted my computer, but hasn't installed the CWMOD yet, as I can't stand having to look through 87 pages for all the stand-alone add-ons like Prof. Tournesol's new formations and so on. However, Bull Run really got me into playing this era again, so I was wondering if someone could PLEASE post all the new add-ons not on the front page here for me if it's not too much trouble? Or perhaps you can simply Email me them? That would be highly appreciated! Thanks.

the timer for the objectives in the McPHerson

the triggers now force you to go to the

go there anyway to rally, it was possible to trigger the

Hey!

I am wondering if anyone in here knows how that program language for 'em scripts work? I did spend the last few days playing around to get a 2 ranks deep line formation (12 soldiers - it is actually possipble to have 'em shooting that way without them killing groupmembers&#33http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif, and a collum formation with the commanding leader marching abrest to the 2 collums of following soldiers. For that I only tweaked an existing script (got it out from one of the existing missions where the confederate soldiers storm a stonewall where federal troops "hide") so the actual credits for those should go to that guy. But what I'm unalbe of is to make the battle formation do the following thing: the first row should drop to one knee when the enemy is in range, the second row should wait a few seconds and then also lower the guns and take aim, then shoot - and after reloading the whole thing should start anew - fist row drop and aim, second row take aim, fire... and so on. (and also there could be a second script where all rows remain standing while shooting and reloading). and another thing bugs me: they should stay where they are (eg: no turning around and stuff - because if they do they always fu** up the formation and look like fools&#33http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif Is there any way to do that - or better Is there anyone who is a genius and able to do such a thing?

Hope reinforcements and desired help are somewhere out there...

Thank you,

Dunno about formations man...
ProfT's scripts did some magic, but it is still a field to explore.

But for the meanwhile, here is a progress report...

Cavalry is getting done. Coming along nicely.

Here's some retexturing and reworking of the muskets. As you see the main gun of the early part of the war, the 1842 Smoothbore has been added to our collection...

http://www.petrov-petrov.si/~triglav/CW/RecentMuskets.jpg

Here's a shot of some Confederates...Some ragged Westerners from Arkansas and Texas, then a Florida man, a Marylander, summer (un)dress and an early war Virginian. All armed with appropriate weapons (Smoothbores, Enfields and Mississippi rifles).

http://www.petrov-petrov.si/~triglav/CW/RecentRebels.jpg

Here's an addition for the Union side. A German volunteer Yaeger, a volunteer of 16th NY, black volunteers and an early war Minnesotan.

http://www.petrov-petrov.si/~triglav/CW/RecentYankees.jpg

...this should add some more variety to the battlefield.
We're hard at work to get things done as soon as possible.

Cavalry is our main focus right now.
It is set up in somesort of a way, that the saddle is the vehicle, the horse is the driver and the rider is the gunner...but not entirely.

In enemy fire, the horse can get shot, while the rider jumps off unharmed, or the rider gets killed, but the horse is unharmed. A rider without a horse can also find a horse without a rider and mount it...

The horse therefore has a cycle of animations for each leg for running, which makes it look pretty fun.

The Irish Brigade have Different flag Green with gold harp of Erin
and the only major uniform difference is they went into battle with aSprig of Miseltoe in their hat (I think its Misletoe.)

On another thought A man in the Union Overcoat (Big Ligt blue coat with mantle. and Kepi would be very useful.. For Sentries etc
but so many were coveted by teConfederates etc that Just changing the Kepi would give you a reb in one..

Does Progress on the Cav and horses mean working Waon etc Eventually?

Best wishes and Am Still enjoying the Mod.

Hmm i was thinking over that pic today, i think that there are some problems with the horse and the proportions there.

(hehe it looks a tiny bit like a donkey costume with 2 men inside) - if u look to the legs and hooves etc.

I've made a variant of an older horse model, with new legs and an rtm animation that i think would look a bit superior so picket if ur around contact me and we can exchange some files and talk about horsie development

i used to work with the code blue mod, and i remeber in one of our in-team demos, that when the marine/soldier was hit severely he was on his back, moaning and writhing and was incapacitated, if you want you might want to try to get hold of dave from codeblue to see if he'd help, id get ahold of him for you but i have limited computer accessability for the next 6 months, but yeah check him out for wounded animations

We have a man in the overcoat in the works, so a variation of it will also be the Irish Brigade at Fredericksburg, with twigs in their caps.

And yes, our goal is to have working wagons and towable artillery with this horse.

The cavalry looks damn fine! Can't wait to shoot 'em from horsebacks with my trusty ol' Whitworth. But how is the dying of the horse looking? You know, PC:s rideable horse looked pretty strange when he was killed, though at least he didn't smoke and turn into a raisin http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

http://newagefilm.co.uk/untitled.jpg

This is my prob with the current animation, is that there appears like far too many joints in the horses legs, plus the horses leg models look a bit crude.

In our mod we've dabbled a bit with a horse animation, and when its done if you guys want we'll share the anim and the model for you guys to use.

Though personally I suggest using an altogether different premise for cavalry, instead of having vehicle classes attached to 2 units, it would be more efficient to make a single unit that combines a horse and rider model.

This would have the following advantages.
1. The rider could be fully animated, with all the detail an actual unit has ingame as opposed to a vehicle.
2. There would be far less lag generated by having no scripts.
3. AI responsiveness would be much higher as a unit, than as a vehicle class. Otherwise we end up having riders 'scanning' like tank turrets hehe. Which leads to cavalry sitting about vulnerable and confused, getting stuck on hills etc.

In many ways, using the old method, we end up using cavalry asa if they were jeeps with MGs, (in terms of the cpu) and we all know that 20 mg jeeps on a map would cause some slow down.

My alternative suggestion, to make a fully animated unit with combined rider and horse, is not without some disadvantages however.

1. The rider and horse, combined would be great for the AI, but for the player, would still require a vehicle class horse (if they were to mount and dismount.)

2. The effort to animated basically a fresh unit, would be an immense effort.

We have started a horse galloping animation, in this wee video clip, he gallops fast and slow (for walking and running) and lol, yes i know the ground is bright green, and that the horse isnt moving on the ground lol. With this anim we still need to add horse head joggling etc, so still more to be done.

Quote[/b] ]It is set up in somesort of a way, that the saddle is the vehicle, the horse is the driver and the rider is the gunner...but not entirely
More precisely : the vehicle is invisible but armed ; the rider can use this mounted weapon and ride the vehicle ; the horse is a cargo of the invisible vehicle.

Quote[/b] ]. There would be far less lag generated by having no scripts

In fact, the animation script is simple, with no laggy commands. With a man/horse man class, you'll have to use scripts also to create mounted or dismounted models. It won't be possible to shoot only the rider or only the horse. It won't be possible to order a squad to dismount. It won't be possible to mount an AI horse of which the rider was killed.

Quote[/b] ]In many ways, using the old method, we end up using cavalry asa if they were jeeps with MGs, (in terms of the cpu) and we all know that 20 mg jeeps on a map would cause some slow down.

Well, it's mainly a question of polycount, this horse has much less polys than a jeep...

Gavinthecat
Sep 18 2005, 13:44
Well precisely prof, though in my proposition, the cavalry for AI would be exactly that, for AI opponents that are cavalry.

As for players who use horses, (or if they command squads) well, this would the vehicle horse, with dismounted cav units as riders.

It's not the animation script that lags, its the others that determine targetting etc, its the fact that there are a number of ais at work per horse.

My intention is that a cavalry will run almost as efficiently as an enemy soldier would, with no scripts and just an eventhandler.

I mean i know full well about the current development of the cavarly (ive tested it thoroughly) but i think, given its combat limitations, movement difficulties and lag caused, that while useful for the player to use, a vehicle class cavalry is inefficient for the enemy AI.

As for polycount, ive found and with scripts, that a cavalry will lag twice as much as any ofp jeep with an MG. (and im running a fast machine)

Most of all, a single AI combination cavalry, will be better to animate I believe also.

Triglav
Sep 18 2005, 14:44
Gavin, I agree with you on the anim of the gallop issue.
Send it over, along with your legs, so we can incorporate it in this model.

Otherwise I think ProfT's solution of vehicle/cargo/driver is better than the A.I. concept, as I've been doing some testing and battles really look cool with horses shot under the riders, those running around looking for a new mount, etc...very realistic battle confusion...

Only the pistol is used now while mounted. The cavalry use their carbines on ground. Means they charge up close and fire their pistols...somewhat like it actually was... http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/pistols.gif

http://www.petrov-petrov.si/~triglav/CW/Cavalry.jpg

BTW, I had no lag in this scenario, where two squads of cavalry charge three squads of infantry, therefore the scripting is obviously minimal...

What give away my legs? My anim!?!?! After all the effort?

Do i not even get like a cookie? or a medal? or chocolates or anything?

Okay, well we are making cavalry in our mod too, so perhaps we can lessen the time this takes to make better cavalry by cooperating.

I have reservations about the style with which cwmod wants to apply cavalry, but without sounding pompous, our direction will take a long time to apply so perhaps your beta horse in progress can be used by us in the meantime also, but using shared animations we've made too.

I am making a series of animations including horses death, (tho this was with the rider) and rider shooting and reloading carbines etc that we could share as well.

If you want, if cwmod sends us a horse beta, we'll apply the horse legs and send em' back, and we'll see if theres anything useful u guys have done?

//EDIT

Okay Trig doesnt want to swap any of ur own horse developments, so *shrugs* theres nothing in it for us to exchange for nothing...

Nah, I don't think I'll be sendin' you anything untill we release.

You haven't proven to be a trustworthy partner before...in fact you haven't ever really done anything that was in anyone's interest but yours. And like you are now building your mod around everything that CWMOD members have developped, just texturing it nicely, while at the same time claiming all we made was "a compass and a watch", so you'd release our horse development as your own and say we only made a new "hoof sound" or something, whereas it was you and your superior skills that made it actually work.

Good luck with your mod mate, nice of you to come telling us how superior and improved your work is everytime we post a screenie of some of our work, but once again...if you really wanted to help and be a niceguy about this, you would do just that...help.

Like ProfT helps with any spare moment he has. And Pickett. And Combat Agent. And tsalagikola.

BTW, how are those aimsights you've promised months ago you'd make, that I bothered to go and do a whole set of pictures of them for you?

I was admin for cwmod for a short while, and those members who left with me that i recruited joined House Divided. But bear in mind triglav, you have no holy right to moan at me as if your entitled to anything.

We are a seperate mod, and if we trade we expect to 'trade', you've invited yourself on our mod thread often enough, and i came here in good faith.

You don't get what you want and I'm the one whining?

Gavinlogic again...

I'm not trying to make you look anything. You made your own reputation. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/notworthy.gif

This is exactly why I said that this time you should send some work FIRST, then we'd use it, make the product and let EVERYONE (including you) use it. Because so far, you've only taken our work and built your mod around it and never sent anything back for us to use.

Of course, you wanted it the other way so you could do what you always do again. Take the crude product, but with a bunch of revolutionary concepts, put some polish on it, and boast your modding superiority, as we're clearly only capable of "making compasses and watches..."

And if in the process anyone would ever ask, "well, v.1.2 is nearing release, could you please send back the horse, so we can finish our release", we'd no doubt get "screw you, I'm not working to your timetables".

Trust issues, see...

Your comment about aimsights was a predictable Gavinism of the purest form. I believed that this time you'd be true to your word (all your tales about goodwill between the mods), but some less naive mod members than me expected nothing different from the start. And they were right again.

Thus I repeat...if you want to help, then help...CO-OPERATE.
Look the word up if you don't know what it means. Don't just come criticizing all over, demanding we send you stuff, which you will superbly improve...then maybe hope and pray we get something back (as you're "clearly doing us all a biiiiig favour" again, aren't you?).

Calm down, goddamnit!

Triglav, CWMOD put the standard for historical mods. Without CWMOD, there wouldn't be a Napoleonic Pack and there would not be the House Divided mod. So Gavin, I think there shouldn't be any problem for you to give something to CWMOD because your mod only exists because of CWMOD.

And as Triglav said some while ago, House Divided is more of a community-satisfier while CWMOD focuses on different regiments of the US Civil War etc.

Damn I'm glad to be just an average player, I can actually have two modfolders.

Vehicle-formation...we did experiment something of a wall/breastwork thingie, that had fixed firing positions...
Otherwise if you want a straight line, just place individual soldiers, not in a squad, two rows...they'll fire when enemy gets close...

Wagons...ProfT has made for the old horse already working towable artillery. I'm sure he can adapt the new one too, also for wagons.

Point of Interest; The "Coldstream chap", Arthur Fremantle, observed the proceedings at Gettysburg in civilian uniform; otherwise, a uniformed representative of the British Army to the Confederate States of America would have been tantamount to the British Empire recognising the right of secession of the CSA and ipso facto the validity of slavery (abolished half a century earlier).
Is there any possibility of improving the facial hair a bit, out of interest? I know it's the least of your worries, but making it less obvious would ne nice :P. Maybe rustling up some darker faces too; the Pennsylanian sun would have been hard on the flesh of Union and Confederate troops alike.

Not sure if I understood your questions correctly.

AI soldiers do fight as well as any OFP units, yes. They attack, shoot, even attack with bayonet when close...

Excellent! Thank you Bigus!

Now I definitely need to speed up the Irish Brigade, so they can get killed at Marye's Heights at Fredericksburg.

I'll pack then the following maps in v.1.2 :

Gettysburg
Chattanooga
Bull Run
Wilderness

Now how about that gentlemen?
Soon all the main CW battlefields will be covered.

All we'll need still will be Petersburg and the fortifications around it... (some are being made already, some will be in a short while) and places in the Western Theater.

It's been a while since i last posted, but i'm still here, still making things and goodies, feeding them to Triglav.
Things have been going slow since i developed a taste for shooting muzzleloading rifles, something not easily accomplished in Germany, but its done now and i will give special attention to any comments on accuracy of CivilWar area weapons from now on. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge2.gif
A new map of the Shiloh battlefield is in the planning, but it will take some time and field research before its released.
That's what i'm going to do in the next weeks, go there and take a zillion pictures, hunt down any map i can lay my hands on and try to get a feeling for the terrain.

Oct 12 2005, 07:58
Well, bigus, you cannot attach a waving flag to an empty vehicle....but to its driver. So :

You p3d model must have a proxy flag, as standard OFP vehicles (proxy:flag_alone.01) ; you can position the proxy exactly where you want on the model ;

If your boat has a crew (crew="someone"; ), put this in the config of the boat :

Class EventHandlers
{
Init="[driver _this select 0,""\cwflags2\newus.paa""] exec ""\cwflags2\flag.sqs""";
};

If not or if you wanna make test, the driver must have in its init line in the editor :[driver this,"\cwflags2\newus.paa"] exec "\cwflags2\flag.sqs"

Triglav
Oct 21 2005, 20:21
Yes. And we're happy to say that version 1.1, in spite of some shortcomings, reached an incredible 20.000 downloads!

As much as time permits (and our everyday jobs don't permit a whole lot), we're working on version 1.2.

Soon you'll be able to enjoy a bunch of completely historically accurate units, reworked and greatly optimized for a much better performance, fully animated and battle functional horses and cavalry units to go with them, reworked and optimized weapons, horse drawn wagons, many new objects, additional historic battlefields, new cannons, a gatling gun, and many other improvements.

Several people have recently joined this humble attempt to create a plausible historic mod, and we're currently waiting for them to finish their projects, to include as many of them as possible in the next release...

hey there, im kinda new here even though ive had opfp since it was released. I just recently (as in about 3 months ago) started playing it again and reinstalled all of the Addons and Mods I had and of course that included CWmod. While I was at it I went ahead and updated CWM to 1.1 and ive been running into the error that some others are talking about with the ammo in multiplayer. But what I found was odd was that the union calvary rifle (spencer or sharps...i keep getting them mixed up) had ammo. 7 in gun and i think...3 mags or something (im at school so i cant check). But anyway, what im getting at and maybe what Mr. Cheese was talking about as well, what exactly do you need to correct this problem. I went back...50 or so pages (ehh http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif ) and I found a post from Pickett and some others but it involved some sort of script that i guess i didnt have. so i tried just typing it raw into the Init code of a soldier and it didnt work.
I think your mod is awesome but I just wanted to get this fixed so Ill be able to play LAN with everyone around here. Thks, keep up the good work.

The spencer is a reapeating rifle and can hold 7 rounds in it though they are hand loaded, its a predecessor of the famous winchester type rifles you see in alot of cowboy films, if that helps your question about that I don't know about ammo problems, the only one I get is if you attach bayonets you need to hit space again to use your rifle.

_totalAmmo = Count Magazines _troop

_troop addmagazine "Musketmag"

_troop addmagazine "Musketmag"

Here is a little movie I made in the missions. I used an old Attack and Defence script, what it does the enemy can be killed and be dead for 30 seconds then respawn 150 meters away and come at you again and they start in a big circle and attack you from all sides but in the missions you can win but you just can't walk in just like you are in a park, you have to fight your way in and hold your postion for about 30 seconds. The script can be changed in many ways. It can be set for different distance for respawn and from 1 to 1000 attacking men.ATTACK AND DEFENCE SCRIPT (http://webzoom.freewebs.com/ofpmodders/Movie.wmv) It takes alittle time to load.

You may have seen it in the Scripting section, but I've been working on a line-battle script. Not really sure if there's already one out, but basically, this allows you to command a traditional line formation in Civil War era combat.

You can give the commands to fall into the formation, which is a tightly packed line, raise weapons, fire (almost simultaneous, looks cool as hell), cease fire, attach bayonets/charge. The units under your command cannot move or go prone while in this line formation, so it's pretty realistic. It definately makes for some fun and authentic battles that these Civil War addons need.

It's finished so far, and at this point I'm tweaking and optimizing everything. I also plan on making one for AI squads, so they can line up and fire simultaneously like the player's squad can.

Here's a quick preview of it:
Note: This was taken while reloading, as you can still see the smoke. They don't fire while kneeling - only while standing.

Now the soldier goes through all the motions required to load a musket:

Also he is unmovable for the time of the reloading, which is 15 seconds...thus no more guessing when is he ready to fire.

Hehe...ok. But the guy is wearning early militia uniform, and several Northern regiments marched to first Bull Run in grey uniforms (while some south, particularly Virginian regiments, wore blue), which made up for some pretty confusion and lots of friendly fire, especially by artillery. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/banghead.gif

So then the guys sat down and decided on the rules of the game, by which north would wear blue and south gray.

But thanks for the compliments.

Shouldn't his beard be a bit "rounder"? And be sure to include Stonewall, I wanna charge to the enemy with him leading the way - just like in the ol' pictures. Don't know if he ever rushed to the enemy on foot and with only a sword, but wouldn't really be surprised...

EDIT:
Here's a little pic, just to keep yall in the spirits... Rarely, I decided to wear blue for that battle... And got shot by a rebel gunner. Yes, he actually hit me.

Stonewall only drew his sword once during the civil war, when
he gave a speech to the stonewall brigade on leaving them
to become a corps commander!
but he did lead the way notably at bull run,
he was spotted by the union army just before the battle of second bull run on a ridge. just before ordering the attrack wich saw the creation of the Iron Brigade and the last of General popes hope of doing any good!

but that fella is cool at last cut scene material for CwMOd looking good!

Things are looking great, cant wait until release.

I was curious if, since cavalry is now possible, there would be some sort of irregular cavalrymen? Perhaps on the resistance side there could be a cavalryman with mostly civilian clothing and a union overcoat? That was pretty much standard wear for both rebel and union irregulars in the border war in the KS/MO/OK region. It would be great to be able to throw together some battles between those forces. Jesse James, Cole Younger, "Bloody Bill" Anderson, William Quantrill, and tons of other future western outlaws actually served in that theater of operations during the civil war. If you're looking for some fun characters to skin for the game, those would be pretty interesting and might also be of use to anybody who wanted to make wild west style missions later on.

Triglav
Nov 25 2005, 14:24
It's just the weird perspective of OFP engine where it enlarges things towards the edge of the screen.
In real the head is properly proportionate, don't worry.

Some ad-hoc baricades and cheavaux De Frise would be cool as well as some rock barricades, and lo baricades, union infntry tended
to put up shallow Earthworks no matter what! (as on culps hill and even little rpound top and devils den!

Hi.

The current update of CWMOD should already be released, but as we keep finding details to add and improve it keeps getting a bit delayed.
Still...unless someting terrible happens I think it should be out before Christmas.

About speed...find the speed parameter of the vehicle in its config.cpp and increase it...

Sepe
Nov 28 2005, 04:50
Great, looks like I don't have to bother and shoot Triglav then. I'll be happy to do it though with the new CWMOD!

By the way, will you also release a patch to update the existing mod or just a full one? Not too important tho, as the size (or at least the old sizes haven't been) ain't too huge, comparing to all these "über-improvement" mods we've seen soo many these days.

Nov 28 2005, 06:29

The whole thing will be released to replace v.1.1 you're using now.

Ya Tsal its the Geometry lod and it can be a beiiitchhhh sometimes.
just make sure all faces are joined and pointing the right way.
if you can , use Create box , plane , cylinder etc .
and dont texture it.
dont forget to add mass to each component as well.
(if you have 2 boxes name them component01 etc apply mass too each one at the bottom and click apply to each one).
good luck with the project.
