View Full Version : Win ME,No Multiplayer!
Hi
When i try to host a game i also get the same problem as some of the players who are useing Windows ME.
I select a island and then a map and click OK...and no-think happens..When i remove the labtop out of the way in the game, I can also see the writeing underneath
saying "Createing server"with the little scan bleep going left to right..this goes on forever and nothink happens :(
I had a 600mhz with WinME running OFP with no problems.I have just BOUGHT a 1.7mhz with Win ME
and it dont seem to WORK....Strange..... I have reinstalled Dx8 still no joy!..i have not tryed the ICS shareing thing yet cus no one has written anythink about how to check this..or i missed it :)
One Win ME works , One does not. Anyone know wot could be causeing this please.
Thanks in advance :)
I've got the same problem, although I'm running Windows XP (2600 build). When I try to create LAN game it goes to the island and mission selection, but when I press OK - nothing happens. Tried all versions of game - didn't help.
I've got ADSL connection to internet and also have my computer connected to home LAN. Here is my config:
Pentium 4 1.7 Ghz
256MB RAM
Geforce 2 GTS 32Mb DDR
Sound Blaster Live!
2 Ethernet cards
Any idea how to solve the problem?

you guys have to remember that win me are not for gamming. Alot of the games are not built for them. dsl and cable are for hosting. Xp is to new to evan try to host a game on it.

Actually, Win ME is a consumer OS intended for gaming.
But I digress. ICS is known to cause problems with DirectPlay, which is what OFP uses to communicte. CM's only suggestion at this point is to uninstall or disable ICS. Microsoft also has a Knowledgebase article on this subject, which explains the problem.

Merlin Swri...You know absolutley nothing about computers obviously. Did you know that ME is an update of 98, 98 being an update for 95. all three being VERY gaming friendly PLatforms. Let me guess you think Win2k is a gaming platform?? just an assumption cuz it would be as dumb as your first guess. Win2k is a workmans platform ME= GamersPlatofrm and Home office. XP is supposedly the gamers platform. BTW someone told me XP is now out on a 64bit Kernel is this true?http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif I thought it was only ran on the same Win2k 32-bit Kernel. can sum1 answer this

If this will help hehe ;-) I have Win ME, and have no rpoblems with hosting... Any YES WinME is more gaming friendly than Win 2000. Why?
Win98 --> WinME
WinNT --> Win2000

To Cand:
I got the same prob as u, and the problem is simple...When u try hosting with a computer on a LAN, who shares internet connection, the clients who try to join in, cant find ur ip, because they can only "see " the LAN networkcard... I've tried everything , but no luck...
I found the way to partially solve the problem with hosting game on the computer who shares internet connection. I disabled Internet Connection Sharing and then it was possible to host a game on my LAN. So when I want to host a LAN game, I'll just disable ICS. However it would be cool if Operation Flashpoint could work together with ICS too. I think OF developers should look for this issue and try to fix it. There are a lot of people who has the same problem.

The problem is not with OFP, but with Microsoft's DirectPlay. There is a Microsoft Knowledgebase article (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnplay/html/nats2-msdn.asp) on it.

ICS.
ICS should be disabled for most games. I say most because I know people that use it to play 2 accounts on EverQuest (Husband & Wife etc.), however EQ was designed for decent play even at 28.8 dial up.
As I understand it ICS uses it's own form of NAT (Network Address Translation) and PAT (Port Adress Translation). BAsically what it is doing is handling all inbound and outbound ports, and traffic.
Computer 1------+
*** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** |---------[ICS] - - - - - - [ISP]
Computer 2------+
On your home network side you have 2 IP addresses (inside interface), on the outside you have one (either static or dynamic [assigned at connect time by ISP]). It has to fool your ISP and your game to make sure that the packets get sent to the proper ports both inside and outside. Some (most) games, esp, "real time" games do not "play well" with ICS, as there are timing issues involved. Another reason you have problems is that all this takes CPU cycles (delays) and can cause "LAG" for you (Client/server) and your players (client).
Again I'm no expert but this is what I've been told by developer friends of mine.
Don't use ICS, uninstall it. If you need 2 connections to the internet get 2 dialup accounts or a router for your broadband connection, use PAT/NAT, it's much faster on a router or get additional registered (public) IP addresses
