I dont think so, with X-box OPF and OPF2 and the latest beta patches i think BIS hands are full, unless its another CM stunt like Red Hammer http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif , would be great to have another BIS expantion though. But many of us are already dreaming with OPF2.

probably OFP XBOX. it is said to be using 1.5 version of OFP engine.

either that or there was another talk about Independence Lost. however, last news i heard is that they are pushed back to sometime after OFP2.

Yeah, I saw it too in PC GAMER's look-ahead to 2004 issue...only a small little sentence that said, i think, Codemasters had announced Operation Flashpoint 1.5.

Odd...

Fingers crossed anyways ***http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

I cannot understand why they haven't done some expansions.

Look at Bf1942 they keep getting money from expansions .
For the record I haven't bought any expansions tho (bought my son a package)
If it was an expansion of interest I would tho,I like the original content of the game,I am not interested in Secret Weapons or Road to Rome ,maybe the Vietnam one coming.

I would buy a OFP Vietnam or WW2 Pacific expansion
Actually a modern (current wars) I wouldn't mind either

Need any help on an expansion, lmk

good point. i'd have bought OFP expansion if it were from BIS. however, i respect and love that BIS decided to forgo such commercial strategy, and rather work on improving the engine to higher level.

also, with O2 and Visitor, people are working on great mods like CSLA and FDF, not to mention ECP.

15 year old isnt interested in OFP for some odd reason, doesn't like some things ,doesn't have patience as he's a CS player

My 3 year old tho,you would not believe,he has already been playing OFP for a few years, can maneuver the game very well, he now has his own computer.
And where do you think he goes when he runs OFP,right to the mission editor, just like dad.
3 year old is also very interested in vehicles and I am about to install O2 on his machine too.He has some experience in O2 already. He also deleted my Wildcat model a bit ago.

Back to the topic,I enjoy the patches and support for sure, addons sorta came out slow for OFP, I wish I could have gotten a better jump on addon making (had no experience to get beta)
The addons are nice and can make what you want, you would think could keep the game alive for many more years (thinking about halflife's age)

Why have an expansion pack, just when all these great mods are beginning to be released? I don't see the point.

Unless BIS changes parts of the engine, there is not much sense in releasing an expansion pack. And I think they are saving ALL of the engine tweaks for OFP2.

Looks like it is going to be a pack with addons, island and a campaign. The thing that the many fantastic OFP mods can do much better than BIS http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif

The best thing about BIS releasing something is that it's official. Sure, a lot of the addon makers out there are doing amazing things with OFP that BIS hasn't been able to match, but when BIS releases something, it'll be unoversal to everybody. If BIS released the CSLA mod, we'd all be playing the CSLA mod. If the CSLA mod releases the CSLA mod, only people who want to download 200mbs or more will play it. Know what I mean? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rock.gif

Disagree here!
How many mods, addons and islands use reskined bis models, bis houses, bis trees, etc? If BIS would release another expantion with a new island containing even more new stuff it would be really great, not to mention some more oficial addons and a quality campaign. BIS material will always be very welcome. And keep in mind everything we got from resistance besides some addons, Nogova and a campaign http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif . Also there is only too major mods for OPF, and those took alot of time to be made, im not too sure we will see many complete full mods being released anytime soon.

But as the xbox version of OFP will be released before that we might get to see the same engine in OFP 1.5 which would mean join in play and a much more optimized game.

I feel pretty sure that it's a codemasters production but I do hope they'll also use the features used in xbox.

I would like to see a new official campaign, using new units and a new larger terrain.

Also, some of the advantages that have been learned/planned for OFP2 would be nice to have a preview stage, to allow OFP2 to be "perfect".

Things Like Join-in-progress, addon loading on the fly,

Pixel shading and other graphical loveliness.

It would also be very cool to see an official version of CTI, with purpose designed MP maps. With JIP these would make very good missions, and present us Dedicated server hosts with a very enjoyable prospect.

If there IS going to be an expansion pack, then, HOORAY!!

If there's not, then Im sure we (the addon teams) can keep you all busy until OFP2!!.

I've been away for quite a while, and the only thing that springs to mind is, that an OFP 1.5 would be the Final release of OFP utilizing the current game engine. Think a CD that was like GOTY, only that there will be no updates or patches needed. It's V 1.9x straight out of the box. The last of the 1.xx patches.

In my view, it will be the last hurrah for Flashpoint before OFP 2 comes on the shelves, and hopefully, with a few little extra goodies thrown in for good measure. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

One thing I would really like to see, if there WAS going o be a patch......

The ability to password/encrypt your own addons, so that your work cannot easily be copied.

Oh, and one other thing.

For vehicle types NOT to be tied to simulations so heavily, so that we could make them inherit other features,
eg, missiles on cars
floating aircraft etc.
and also then we could get rid of the light flashes etc when needed, things that cannot be done away with by simple inheritance changes.

For this game, hunt stuff, yes. Grow stuff, no way!

Mayby we could 'theoretically', grow stuff. It would implement 'Christmas Tree' type scripting though. Say in Summer, the fields would be empty, then, as the OFP world hits a certain date, different crops would populate in different fields, then these crops might disapear when 'harvest time' comes. Like grapes on a grapevine, or oranges on a tree, or wheat in a wheatfield.

That would be a pretty cool feature, IMO.

There is an urgent need for some kind of upgrade to the current models.

My 4 yr old nephew was walking around Lipany on friday while I was working on another PC and started shouting

"What do I press to go the toilet?"

He was in a house staring at a bog.

I explained that he couldn't and then he asked why the water was dirty.

"How do I flush the chain?"

If Bis want to keep a 4 yr old happy they will release an updated toilet model. I hope this will be in OFP 1.5

UK PC Gamer has done a few pages on OFP though, I wonder if they are gearing up PC interest in the OFP engine? GotY should go on sale soon cheaply (CWC is dirt cheap atm) Maybe they will want to bundle it with a new island?

jacobaby
Feb 14 2004, 11:40
Actually, the idea for changed terrain according to the date is an excellent one.

Trees could have 4 stages, buds, leaves, autumn colours, and bare.
This alone would make for a much more immersive island, and as the xmas trees point out, the coding is already there. Just needs 4 x the number of models http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge_o.gif

But then the weather effects could be made seasonal too. Higher winds in spring and autumn etc. Maybe snow in the winter months and a more muddy ground texture for the spring, with a drier browner grass texture for the summer months.

In other words, a "real" place to live and fight, dynamically moving.
If anyone can do this, it will be BIS, remember, they are the ones who gave us chiming village churches, full sun sequences, realtime star/moon movements, tidal effects etc etc.

All this I mean for OFP2 of course, not the rumoured expansion http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

and as has been already mentiones, with O2 and the such, i think BIS are safe in the knowledge they can let the many excelent mods out there give us fun addons...

and TJ - some great suggestions for OFP2 - with the nearly 3 years of knowledge BIS have from releasing CWC and then the later packs, they surely will be able to pull an amazing game out of the bag come spring 2005 - i just can't wait http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

No, it's going to be Spring 2006. BIS still hasn't even finished the X-Box port, how are they going to make OFP2 in one year?

They have enough people to do two things in the same time. Also alot of what they are doing for the Xboox version will be the same in OFP2.

I don't think an expansion pack should be released, its a hassle to patch and upgrade all the versions. Instead release it as a standalone polished product. This will make it easy for us and new fans of Operation Flashpoint. This will draw more people to the Operation Flashpoint franchise and give BIS more time to work on OFP2.

Guys

I'd stop chatting about this shit. Its just a rumor. Rumors get around after one person says something and its proven finally in a forum that they get around everywhere. Stop spreading it. Ok?

Its not a fricken expansion for christs sake. People though BF: Vietnam was an expansion. That ain't an expansion. People think the Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault will be an expansion. It won't, its going to use a who new engine and shit.

So stop worrying about this shit. OFP Two is already announced and its not an expansion, thats obvious http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge_o.gif

Flashpoint2004 (http://www.flashpoint2004.com) page now has a "coming soon" ad for VBS1 Advanced.

I hope that's not the only thing we can expect this year beside the X-Box release.

The last CWC patch was 1.46 so if it's the X-Box OFP for PC it won't have the resistance part, just an updated CWC. So it's not wrong to call it 1.5 which it is.

From What i have just heard: www.flashpoint2004.com (www.flashpoint2004.com) is coming out for the public because my dad had comfirmed VBS2! he did not say a date for it though.

so flashpoint 1.5 could be VBS1 renamed for the public. or i could be totaly wrong.

plus VBS1 is already out, tell me if im wrong...

so why would they on www.flashpoint2004.com (www.flashpoint2004.com) say its coming soon???

Too much speculation here, eh? Look, its going to be Operation Flashpoint 2

You think on Codemasters site they would have OFP2 there, like advertised, then change the name and make us think that they were playing us for a long time.....you obviously are dreaming....

Seriously, they wouldn't be working on a VBS2 instead of Operation Flashpoint 2 but expect to have it look like the old OFP, do you now?

it doesn't take this long to make an expansion like thing, it takes this long to work on a new engine and kick ass graphics!

bleh, i don´t even want kick ass graphics.
all i´m asking for a lovelly things like:

*individual anims for addons i.e. assign hand- holding positions on guns in O˛
*a new physics engine with accurate helo behaviour, ballistics, clipping andsoon...
*map streaming to allow even higher viewdistances
*beeing able to stick your gun out of the firing holes from a bmp and cause some serious havoc! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif

well- just one more week and our minds will be illuminated on whats up with ofp2 or however they´ll call it.
maybe we´ll get ofp1.5 because BIS wants to publicaly test some features for ofp2. who knows, who knows http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/ghostface.gif
